  1. I'm really hoping the reason for those prices is that that Dutch site is gouging, inflating. The numbers seem way off. The Death Star Battle pack for example, that should be like $15-20 USD, not $30+. EDIT: Can anyone speculate as to the price point of the Coruscant Police Gunship? If it's an exclusive, it could very well include TLG's magic levels of price elevation (I'm looking at you, 9526 Palpatine's Arrest!). Ahsoka could very well be a reprint... I can't tell if that's a new torso/legpiece or not. It's got: 4 Figures 481 pieces Americans, would you pay any more than $49.99 on this one?
  2. Outstanding. Everything's amazing... and then the Motorhead kicker! Well done. Makes me want to fix up my horrible TIE bomber MOC. I'm appreciating all the greeble, CCOOK! It's just terrific.
  3. The red glow was consistent, I remember it well. But it only featured in the final arc of TCW, one maybe two appearances? A very obscure ship in the grand scope of TCW. Who knows? Maybe they'll recycle them into SW Rebels. The guns mounted with the blue launchers actually look appropriate for the new springer loaders. The figure selection isn't great... nice to have a send-off of Anakin and Ahsoka from TCW but a bounty hunter like Ventress is a no-brainer here. Perhaps even certainly maybe the titular "Wrong Jedi" would have made a lot more sense. But hey... I'm not complaining about the season 5 Ahsoka. And stickers/decals with Arubesh? (slow stand up and clap). More, please. Underworld/Courscant street dioramas and playsets, please. Such an under-explored location in TLG's offerings. Micro Fighters won't have any space on my shelf, though I feel hopeful about cheap army building. Nice to have a new source of lighter-skinned generic Imperial Officers. Most of my 10188 Death Star is populated with yellow Imperial Officers, so they stand out and look all sickly. And that Tri... looks identical to the one released in 2005, minus Palps. This Coruscant Police Gunship has corrected my opinion of this wave as a whole. It's an entirely new design, it sends-off TCW wave appropriately. The only final revelation will be the mighty USD/CAD/UK/EURO $$$$ etc, pain in the wallet. I knew they would somehow put their customary dent in my wallet! Can we guess the police shop with that piece/fig count? Is it $40 USD/ $50 CAD? Great week of new images. It brightened up my grueling work week.
  4. ^^ Try right clicking, downloading the PDFs first to view them. I always get frustrated trying to read PDF's in a browser. I wonder if the minifig will continue the tradition of including one of the dudes from the medal ceremony on Yavin 4. (Prays for the first official TLG Dodonna!)
  5. Too bad those released official images of the Death Star Troopers kit doesn't show the tapered slope of the back of the helmet. Technically, aren't these "Death Star Gunners?" Weren't "Death Star Troopers" from that minifig in 9492? I can imagine there are quite a few proud owners of 10188 who will be getting at least one of those kits. Other than that, I can't personally imagine getting anything besides Grevy's new tricked out and much more screen accurate wheel bike. Go Grevy! Was it confirmed that the kit in the highest price point of this wave will be the Coruscant Police ship?
  6. I had a hard time saying no to this model but the fact is I simply can't find the space for it... all of my Star Wars displays are neatly arranged with the Death Star 10188 in the middle and I can't imagine where I could possibly put it! It might be worth it just to get Bossk.... (sigh). Worst case scenario, though, is realizing 5-10 years down the road that it's a must have. I wonder... how much will it be then?
  7. Depending on the licensing agreements. Do we even have confirmation that Star Wars: Rebels will fall under the Lego banner of available kits? Because we may get nothing Rebels-related at all, depending on how Disney wants to do it.
  8. FBTB is reporting that the Planet Series 4 wave will not be released in the USA! I'm sure this will be a major snag in many peoples' plans to get all 12 of the buildable galaxy series. http://www.fbtb.net/2013/09/05/planet-series-4-will-not-be-released-in-the-u-s/
  9. Bravo ~ a true work of genius! The look of Cloud City is a difficult one to catch... and you've nailed it.
  10. Has anyone ever calculated the ratio per wave of entirely new designs to rehashes? This most recently leaked slew of images seems to pretty heavily sway towards rehashes but I'm wondering if it isn't always pretty much the same. BTW, I can't believe the ep2 wave came and went and they didn't bother with the Speeder Chase rehash (Zam Wessel vs. Obi Wan and Anakin) because that was one of the best ATOC sets in the wave when it came out. Lego doesn't want to let their fans down, but that's a close second to being able to recoup and profit from selling core sets (X-Wings, Falcons, etc) to kids.
  11. Thanks so much for this! I put this together this morning and immediately starting thinking of ways to improve it/reduce the size. This thread came up first in a Google search of "lego 79108 mod", by the way. The eliminations of features are a fair trade off for a better scale. Bravo!
  12. Hmmm... I was initially thrilled to see that we're getting two "Death Star Gunners" because I assumed that it would be the kick megablocks new helmet molds we saw in 9492. However... the prelim images show Kingdom hats. Why would they unless they were redoing a helmet? I mean, why not just use the troopers from 9492? Does this mean we're getting the full helmet, the one that goes over the whole face? So confused... I would prefer the figs from 9492 because I resent paying $10+ per on the secondary market. Really, I want 'em both. Lots of 'em. I just checked the box art from 9492 and it does say printed on the box, "Death Star TROOPER." Not gunner. So it must be the fully enclosed helmet. A google image search of 'death star gunner' confirms it. Anyway... my wallet is so relived that an underwhelming wave is upon us after this super awesome summer wave which is going to crush my disposable income. EDIT* Scratch that, the Wheel Bike is a must buy. The force pike looks awesome!
  13. I can understand the reaction, but I'm thrilled about this. I believe this only appeared in the finale (or near the end of the series) and when I first saw it, I'd hoped there would be a kit. The long red dome in the front looks great, at least it did glowing at night. Maybe we'll get crazy lucky and it'll come with a little piece of the Coruscant underworld or some shop fronts, etc. Plus... I don't see much in that list that we haven't seen already in 2005 which was a while ago, I guess. Shame there is no Wookie Catamaraan. I have high hopes for the Wheel Bike. The effort from 2005 was pretty weak. There's a much improved Grievous figure now so hopefully he'll fit inside a bit better. Best part of this news? Death Star Troopers. So glad I didn't break down and pay the ridiculous ePay prices for singles. (whew!) Let's hope there is at least 2 of them in each pack.
  14. My reaction: 10236 will be a must buy and I'll have to start saving now! From an initial review from FBTB: "For too long have we suffered mediocre set designs constrained by a price point." This is absolute truth and I know that they must do that for all the kids out there with little spending money and parents who have a limited budget to spend on their kids - if TLG can do this consistently each year - take one of these *major* scenes from the OT and really make them shine with maximum effectiveness from the piece count then we are in a great position as collectors to get what we've been missing and I'm thinking of Cloud City especially but also the other big ones, Yavin 4, Degobah, Mos Eisley + cantina, etc. They then will be worth the wait. However, since these sets come out only once a year or so (I think the larger style USC sets are their own category) the onus is on TLG to placate the fan base long awaiting these scenes. They have got to bring back the fan voting system. I'm not sure why they only did it the one time in 2009 http://lego.wikia.co...ice_Competition What's interesting to me about the fan's choice vote was that they went ahead and released Palpatine's Arrest 3 years later anyway, after the Home One (the winner) was released. Then they released the Slave 1 with no connection to Cloud City, and I hope that's one of many hints that something big is planned for Cloud City in the (NEAR) future. When SWLego first came out they couldn't get playsets right but were nailing the vehicles. It's come full circle. The playsets are now every bit as good as the vehicles. This is a real quality layout - it's smashed my expectations. The only criticism seems shared by others - not enough Ewoks. I have a supply of backup Ewoks waiting at my pathetic excuse for an Ewok village (won't be sharing that online) but most people don't so they are going to have to live with 5 Ewoks or get more. Anyway, an incredible set this is and it really has my imagination percolating about the things to come in 2014 and beyond. Really enjoyed this thread this year, thanks to all the posters for the discussion and images!
  15. Right, but The Clone Wars lego was licensed to Lucas/arts/film, etc not Disney. I don't think we can just dismiss the acquisition of Star Wars by Disney as not a threat to any ongoing merchandising. The matter must be very complicated. Who knows? There was probably some sort of cause buried in the licensing agreement originally but we haven't heard anything about that yet, have we? Has TLG made any announcements whatsoever about TCW continuing for the winter 2014 wave or not? Nicely done.. this observation made my day! Of course... Yavin IV was the main rebel base in A New Hope. It makes perfect sense.
  16. There are plenty of scenes they missed! But mostly Cloud City, Yavin IV and Degobah. That's for the OT. For the PT I dunno... but people will be asking for a J-237 Royal Naboo Cruiser until TLG caves and actually gives us one. :D I do agree thought, at 2015 it'll be all ep7 and SW:Rebels. Which is fine, I have a feeling the new ships for both series' will be in line with the look/feel of the OT anyway. Does anyone know what the focus will be for the Star Wars Lego sets coming this winter?
  17. Oh... Vader vs. Ahsoka. Can't wait to see something like that. :D Takes the sting out of TCW cancellation, too. Doe this mean we won't see anything from that line until 2015-2016? I understand it takes a few years before approved licensed kits are released.
  18. ^^ If that's true, then I'll be making my own MOC Ewok village, thanks TLG. The beloved 10188 is about as much as I'll ever drop on a single Lego set!
  19. Thanks for those images, Lego-Freak. Excellent to finally see inside this masterpiece of a wave. Padme, Anakin and Obi-Wan are certainly incredibly faithful to ATOC and don't disappoint... I love the ripped Padme outfit. I've had a modded version for years but it's the hair that stands out. It's excellent! Also, I didn't expect to see this in the front of the sail barge: There's been a lot of complaining about the appearance of the front. Especially in comparison to the former which I agreed looked better. But I must admit I do like that cannon (though it might not be...canon?) and doubt it would be possible to mod the old version to include such a great weapon due to the pieces used in the bow.
  20. Agreed... though from the looks of it, I'm gonna need a bigger jar. Maybe one of those gigantic plastic tubs! All of these are likely must-buys except the barge, and even that I'll have to snap up a loose Rebo. [Wallet cries] I hope the Ewok Village doesn't disappoint. So much speculation and excitement might end up letting us down in the end. I check here every day hoping for an Ewok Village update. C'mon TLG, my Ewoks on the Endor shelf are homeless! ;)
  21. I'd go with Jabba's Palace. It was a brilliant design... so screen accurate and so many little areas that allow for playing out scenes (you can send Leia up the staircase and over Jabba's tail to free Han from the carbonite!) that make it a winner. I do feel bad for the younger kids who can't afford it or their folks can't afford it. I'm quite relieved that these awesome kits weren't being released when I was a kid in the 80s... I would have only enjoyed looking at the boxes in Woolco's or wherever. Having said that, Jabba's skiff is certainly more affordable and you get Boba and the sarlacc as well so that's probably my second choice... third choice would be the Gungan Sub, not for the Gungan army (though that is nice) but for the masterpiece minifig Queen Amidala. I've never seen a Star Wars minifig so perfectly executed and dare I say worth the wait? They could have chosen between 2-3 of her costumes from TPM but the first one from the beginning of the film was the right choice.
  22. This is outstanding. So many little issues are fixed with this approach. The rancor gate opens, it looks nicer with the above-ground elements where they should be, lots more room for the rancor to catch his dinner! Bravo!
  23. There's something suggestive about the figures assembled for the third incarnation of TLG's take on Darth Maul's Sith Infiltrator. We've got Padme, Panaka and Qui-Gon Ginn. They were all aboard the queen's ship of course! Why hasn't TLG made a royal starship yet? Everyone knows we don't have a ship for Queen Amidala from Phantom Menance and despite the incredible amount of screen time we spend aboard that ship (most of the film moves forward with the action centred on that very ship) I wouldn't bet on getting an official release anytime soon. This is also the screen time vs. Lego kit issue with Cloud City, but that's a discussion for another thread. ;) I've read elsewhere and on these forums that it is "unbuildable." Well, every AFOL knows that there is no such thing as unbuildable with a construction toy like Lego! I am light on a few key grey pieces... please imagine in the pics below that they are all the same grey color. ;) Allow me to present a very rudimentary attempt to convert this latest Sith Infiltrator to a ship that closely resembles the royal starship. The overall shape of the Infiltrator lends itself to the character of the Nubian ship, really just getting the engines correct was key. Of course the scale is off, but that is a problem with the entire Star Wars line in general, nothing to lose sleep over. I cloned the configuration of the engines from the instructions from the 7660 Naboo N-1 Fighter. Special care was taken to maintain the overall shape of the ship from the top view, trying to make the lines of the ship connect with the royal transport. This meant an extended nose, a rounder aft section and a smoother transition from the neckline to the main core of the ship. I still haven't figured out how to include the cockpit... should it be a printed piece? At the moment I can't remove the piece in the space in question as it keeps the front and the back part of the ship together! The result is a ship that, at close glance, passes for the royal cruiser and at the very least, gives Queen Amidala a place to be stored! I hope that TLG figures out that they can do this ship on a reasonable minifig scale but until then, this will do. I have plans with all that dark red so I intend to scoop it out and replace it with white and beige like the throne room. I added a very small landing ramp specifically so that Maul could have a place to escape; the door doesn't really lead into the ship. The non-Queen, non-Jedi characters still fit crammed into the interior of the front section. Decked out in white in may better resemble that area of the ship from the film. Gotta find a decal that represents the hyperdrive generator, any ideas? I figure a few 1x4 bricks should form it nicely. We need a reason to land this ship on Tattooine! This was not a very difficult conversion, it took a number of flat grey pieces but you'll need to Bricklink a grey version of the 7660 type engines. The engines could have gone a bit bigger but for now I'm satisfied with these. If I ever find a goldmine I may send this away to get chromed up! Shout outs to other great builds on this ship - setechnic's incredible chromed ship with video, as well as Gunner's incredible LLD model!! I find both of these projects to be exciting and inspiring.
  24. My obsession with making a Lego Cloud City has come full circle. Initially I was disappointed and bewildered by the images of the official Lego release of 2003. "What a piece of junk." Of course with 2D photos it's sometimes difficult to fully appreciate a Lego model properly. After a half dozen or so attempts at Cloud City over the past 3 years I'm still tearing these study models apart, unsatisfied with my approach. The most recent victim was this build, however I did spare the carbonite pit. I don't believe that Cloud City is unbuildable but I'm struggling with the inspiration for it these days. It's such a critical part of The Empire Strikes Back, it must be included in any serious OT collection! The last year of Lego Star Wars releases (2012~2013) has been a great pleasure on my shelf and a great pain in the wallet. (I'm looking at you, Jabba's Palace and Rancor Pit!) Upon careful study of 10123, reading reviews and analysis it was decided that I must have 10123 and only by building it will I truly understand the nuances, high points and low points of the only official Cloud City release. Imagine my horror upon finding that a complete kit was worth about $700 used. But looking at the major pieces of the kit I was fairly certain that I had most of the parts lying about needed to build most of the main part of the set... there were major omissions like the baseplates and some special pieces like the carbon rods (little transOrange ones) but I felt that I could check out instructions online and study printed out photos of 10123 and rebuild it pretty close to the official version. As I proceeded to start I found myself "building around" the problem areas and offering my own solutions. For example, I wanted a fairly smooth floor in the dining area so I ended up doing my own thing in there and taking out the sculpture to offer more minifig spaces. I didn't have all the correct pieces or colors so I built what I could and plan to swap out some proper parts when I come across them. There's no rush, and I'm so glad I didn't end up dropping $700 that I don't have on the original model! Yikes. The "force" mechanisms in the dueling room were easy enough but for the floor flipper I tried to improve on it and added a storage area for weapons underneath. The carbonite pit is completely manual with no crank; you must pull up on the chamber lift. You can rotate Han underneath from his minifig version to the 'old style' slab piece of Han frozen in carbonite. The front door lifts up simply without a gimmick. Finally being able to play with and display and reflect on this official version of Cloud City, I must admin that in front of me, it's actually better than expected. The usual criticisms are more or less true (doesn't really look like Cloud City from the film, missing the torture room, etc) but it's fun to play with and somehow effective at being Cloud City even though the resemblance is kind of a stretch. On my shelf I display it wall size out, so the rooms are hidden which looks much better IMHO. Part of the reason I'm so pleased with it (albeit not 100% complete) is that I'm not out $700 for it!! For anyone who bought this used, do you feel it was worth the money? Eventually I will add to this model... another three large areas in pretty much the same configuration to expand on what's been completed. I'll add a torture area/holding cell, hotel suite for Leia, Han and Chewie and some landing platforms for the cloud cars. I may also be inspired to improve the carbonite chamber. The three areas separate and fasten together like 10123 does. I don't miss the enormous landing pads as most of the ships that visit Cloud City are better off landing next to it and the minifigs can gather on the small platform from my last attempt at Cloud City. Besides, I don't have the room on my shelf for those huge platforms! I built the three major baseplates from the common 4x4 curved pieces. That's my rant about making 10123 from spare parts... it was super fun. I enjoyed the challenge of following the instructions and adapting without the required parts. I didn't think I had so many spare parts to do this but I guess I had enough... if you are aching for a new Cloud City, can't wait for it (like me) and have enough spare pieces lying about, I highly recommend taking a crack at it. "This deal's getting worse all the time!" - Lando, bidding on eBay for a complete 10123 with box and instructions!
  25. Assuming we get the village I can imagine it won't be a monster huge set... maybe the same ambition as Palpatine's Arrest, was that not an exclusive? Huge in price, not in bricks. And minifig heavy, as per recent trends. There's always a gimmick in these Star Wars Lego sets and a theme of capture and attack/rescue is often employed, so I'd expect to see an area where the Ewoks can put Han and Luke over a fore to prepare to cook/eat them. C3PO sits atop a throne to hover in the air and freak out the little furballs and set their friends loose. I wonder if it will be a flick launch chair! Maybe even the netting will be employed to capture them, a crank raises it from the ground below to the Ewok living area. Maybe a base of 3 trees similar to 7956 but taller and a flat surface connecting those threes to make the play area. It would be amazing if each tree had a very small Ewok dwelling. Depending on how generous TLG is, I intend to MOC away using whatever we get. I would love it if it was anything like this brilliant masterpiece by hohesC. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=64115 That really inspires and well responds to misgivings some may have about expanding on their Ewok contingent. Imagine your stormtroopers invading their village? Fun times.
