10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
dimc replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Same. The grey matches the torso and the boots look good. The light grey helmet doesn't bother me, it gives me more variety in my scenes. I don't have any specific armies per se, so I don't need 20 knights all looking exactly alike. I'm holding off on the castle (blasphemy! but my wallet!) but I might get the orchid since that qualifies for the pirate pack and it might be my favorite botanical so far. To be honest, as I was building a few pirate sets the other day, I realized I need to do a P&B and get 40x of the black 1x1 cylinders for cannonballs. Or pray for a good day at the wall...- 2,976 replies

The wizard and "white falcons" are so good! I picked up the female pirate/ship crew as well, to add to my Imperial Trading Post ship. I think if I'm in the store, I'll get more white falcons and more ship crew, I always need more civilians to be on the docks.- 2,976 replies

This would be incredible! They only had 3 sets originally, and I guess figures came in one or two other castles as bandits. There was the CMF with the wolf, which I thankfully got two of, but it's not nearly enough. To be honest, what I would really love is a set that can be sort of 3-in-1d with castle wall. So you can easily make it a food stall, a stable, an armor shop, etc. The ability to connect them together and to a bigger castle is key.- 2,976 replies

I have the Blacksmith and 3-in-1 Castle still to build, plus the hideout (though I have an original built right now) so I'm definitely in the camp of "dVIP or great GWP."- 2,976 replies

As someone whose primary interests are vintage castle and pirates, that pirate pack is pretty dang excellent! I wish I could get a couple of them though; hopefully they end up being purchasable with VIP at some point. I may try ordering something at the $50 threshold and waiting on the castle for a bigger GWP, as I have two of the Forestmen GWPs already and the castle will be around for a while and my wallet is hurting right now. I know the general idea is 10 cents per piece for estimating, but that pack has a lot of great larger and fancier parts that I imagine means it would cost a$12-15 if sold at retail. A little weird the barrels are black and the lids brown, but eh.- 2,976 replies

I love being able to open it up and have detail. Both is important! After a long day of fighting, the knights probably want some food and relaxation, and the peasantry are definitely working in gardens and tending animals. It brings the whole scene to life!- 2,976 replies

I'm definitely one of the kids who wanted more interior stuff. Life was more than just battles! Also, as a child, it frustrated me a lot how there was never any way to get around in many buildings. No steps, ladders, doorways. I spent a lot of time making horribly mismatched color structural additions to make them more realistic. This is one area that has gotten so much better over the years. Even in the modulars theme, they added this over the years and I am so here for it.- 2,976 replies

At some point I acquired a handful of parts from 10223 Kingdoms Joust, including the queen's body and face and the king's crown, plus the princess and nobleman. With a little from the collection, I made the queen a scepter with a jewel and now it's Queen's Mountain Fortress with the original lady and the Joust princess. Plus the Joust Lion barding works well, so I added that as another mounted knight.- 2,976 replies

Thanks, I will have to dig a bunch to find them, but it sounds like it might help me fund this castle! Without knowing what's rare, I guess I'll have to look on ebay and so on to get an idea.- 2,976 replies

So as a Lego fan and not really any other toys, what is the MicroMachines market like? I got some in a haul a while back and know nothing about them, other than based on the age of the Legos, they're probably from the late 80s or early 90s.- 2,976 replies

How is Burlington? I haven't been there in years, but I'd be tempted by the BAM for the castle stuff. At this point, I don't think I really need any sets (other than this castle, but again, not a huge rush), so unless I'm out there for other stuff, it's rare.- 2,976 replies

Is this at the Discovery center? I rarely go in there, especially on day 1 for a set (I'm not that needy, I don't think Lego has ever fully run out of a set barring the bricklink fiasco), but I would like to check the BAM for the knights and wizard.- 2,976 replies

Architecture sets and micro MOCs are the only places I don't put minifigs. Locally (and occasionally on ebay) I will buy lots of minifigs just to make my scenes feel even more alive. I'm so thrilled at the minifigs in the castle.- 2,976 replies

I never had any ninjas back when they came out, though I do vaguely remember seeing them in the catalogs. I did get one in a haul and it was quite fun. I have a historical connection with Japan, so I've actually left a few samurai around the house just for funsies. I can see how they feel very different from the Castle that we mostly think about, but I would love to see some redone with the new parts from the Asian sets in the past few years. It's one of the few "other" sites that has good reviews of old sets, with pictures and reasoning. I love his comments, and I hope he's still out there and happy with the 90th castle and other recent sets.- 2,976 replies

I love Steve's Lego blog! I never got this far into it though, mostly reading reviews of the 80s themes. I only had the basic black dragon set and the traitor transport. After that was basically my dark ages, and no royal knights meant no modern faction to fight.- 2,976 replies

I would love to see a more modern remake of the big Fright Knights castle. FK always felt kind of disjointed to me, though I do love the black dragons. Who are they fighting? What do they do? The parts are pretty excellent, and having a witch to go along with Majisto is great. A new spellcaster is excellent for the fantasy side of things, plus the bat helms are just fun. A mixture of FK and MF would be fun. Edit: is there any lore around FK?- 2,976 replies

Fantastic! I need a couple more for Castle In The Forest, so if I can get them on P&B I'll be stoked. All of the others look fantastic too. Really happy to see 3 versions of the Lion, the crossed axes, plus a few others. I will definitely be outfitting some knights for a tournament! Really good call, I might add a blue feather in his helmet to match the shield. Thankfully, I got a couple of them when the CMF line was available, so I can work from there.- 2,976 replies

For the USA, that $35 would be $93 now. I think it's hard because we compare prices we remember, but as kids we didn't have income to speak of, so if a castle costs more than $100, let alone $400, it feels crazy. Of course, the $400 would have been ~$180 in 1990, so there's a lot of mental adjustment to do.- 2,976 replies

Love it! The only thing I might try to change is to make the wall walk a little wider, and open on either end so I can add other walls to it.- 2,976 replies

Can you post a picture of it? I have most of the original (minus that damn unique brown cape) in my little medieval area now, and I'd love to see another modern series of the "wall" sets like that, Armor Shop, and Guarded Inn. Anything that works around a standard wall design would make for amazing medieval town scenes.- 2,976 replies
