  1. Hell if I know then, Lego has some interesting decision-making processes. I bet it'd be neat to learn how they do it!
  2. I'd hazard that it's too close to trans-light blue and trans-yellow, respectively?
  3. The trans-neon green long antenna was made as of 2022, so if it's gone, it's very recent. Only in a Dacta set, but still.
  4. I hope they don't bring back Ice Planet next... /s
  5. Wow, that's a wonderful review with some incredible photography. I'd read reviews of any set if it was done with that level of care, regardless of my interest. (I mean on other sites, I see that BC does it for every review.)
  6. I recently built Galactic Mediator and to be honest, I'd love to recreate it as an Ice Planet ship. It feels way more science-y than police-y, and also, space police suck. It's got two drop pods/sample pods, a vehicle, you could easily make a lab space in front of the vehicle, it's got dual cockpits so someone can pilot it and someone can do all the scanner readings and such. Add some radar dishes and antenna and it's almost ready to go! I don't think the regular panels exist in trans-neon orange, but it'd work well if you used the orange rocket holder panels and slightly adjusted the build to be more airtight. On top of that, I think all of the other parts existed in Ice Planet colors in some manner. I may work on this in stud.io at some point, as I don't quite have all of the parts. On that note, you could also use the Odyssey panels to make a Mega Core Ic-y-tizer. Or something like Nebula Outpost which is already half-white. Anyways, I voted DFD. It's just such a sweet ship and I'd love to see it get upgraded in the way that Galaxy Explorer did.
  7. Amazing work. Love the old sun, looks like a throwback to the castle boxes of yesteryear. The limited color palette is great too.
  8. That ship captain should never be called Redbeard. What a horrifying mess all around.
  9. New canon: the docks are made of ebony and sun-damaged so they look black. There, I fixed the whole issue. LOLOL Jack Stone. Was that the same as the Junior Pirates or whatever it was called? I find those occasionally in hauls, and while I can't bear to throw Legos away if undamaged, I leave them in the little kids toy library. Someone else can enjoy them!
  10. My dude, the ignore function is here for a reason. 4 posts, all trolly garbage. Nothing of value will be lost.
  11. Ahh Pippin! I think I only have some Gail Storms from the Desert line, but I believe they have similar heads. Adventurers is about the last line that I would collect these days until LOTR, and to be honest, I'm hoping to grab some at a yard sale this weekend. I can see a raised baseplate in tan, and if it's not close to complete, I might take your inspiration and grab a daughter body and match it. I'll have to see what hairs or hats I have that will fit. If I go the Elizabeth Swann route, some impertinent wearing of dad's hat might fit the storyline.
  12. My box is OK but has some damage. I don't know if it would be easy to make my own governors daughter with parts available today, but I do have enough bluecoats and two original Broadsides (plus two extra Broadside heads). I suppose it depends on what will serve me best. If I can sell it for let's say $120, that will cover half the cost of new Eldorado or quite a bricklink/PAB order. I have ~$70 worth of Castle/Pirate stuff in my PAB cart now, and I know I have to add some more. Even if I do grab the daughter torso and legs, that's pretty cheap in comparison. If I'm going to do a Sabre, I'll just combine a couple that I have with some Brigs and the little island baseplates. I love the old wall panels with bricks showing through, and don't mind a few shortcuts that make it feel more vintage.
  13. I will admit, the figures are pretty excellent. Barring the red pirate, all would have a good use in the new EF and all of those sell for over $10, sometimes a bunch more.
  14. OK stop the bickering for a hot minute, I have a dilemma. I was digging around in my basement trying to find some cars to sell, and I came across what appears to be an unopened 70412 Soldier's Fort from 2015. I probably would have sold it when I sold the rest of my 2015 sets (which apparently included another 70412 that I had built?), but I somehow missed it (and completely missed the fact that I had never opened it?), but now there is a potential reason to keep it. Having the 2015 governor and governor's daughter would be nice, one printed shako to be a petty officer, and a couple more pirates is never amiss. The soldier torso is a little less detailed, and the set is pretty garbage but might work for a little Sabre Island type thing. Thoughts? What should I do?
  15. Lots of photos at the Brothers Brick review. Also a note that the original didn't come with a monkey (I'd forgotten as mine has long had one), so that's actually a bonus. I'm honestly surprised at how many reviewers don't seem to own both 6276 and 6277 for comparison purposes. I know I'm a vintage fan and thus have a lot of era stuff, but I've got both of those completed. Maybe I should do a review channel...
  16. I wondered where it was supposed to go, only two were shown in some photos. But yes, more cannons are always welcome, especially if they shoot. The vast majority of mine do not, and I can easily make my own little Sabre Island tower to put somewhere near this. I think the governors area is ripe for customization. It'll be a while before I get to building (or owning) this, but that will probably be my first change. I wish they had remade the cannon wheels in brown. My god those are stupid expensive on BL.
  17. I have Black Monarch's Castle built now, and it's very open in the middle aside from a small jail. It's just on flat baseplates, so you can open it up and do more play with it, or close it and store your horses and minifigs in it. It's nice, but I admit to being really excited about finishing Black Knight's Castle because it has much more detail inside. There are little rooms, a well, a jail (which is also the well, sucks for the captives), and it feels more like it's something. Both have their great points, and I'm glad to have both, but they seem to cater to slightly different crowds. I like that Eldorado has more details, in both the original and new versions. It's smaller overall, but this one opens up now, and has more inside due to the brick-built base. I'm excited for a good GWP so I can snag this and see how it is. LOL it is very on-brand to have inconsistencies between various notes and media about sets.
  18. It's true, if I put the Clipper or Red Beard Runner next to Eldorado, it really is kind of silly the scale difference. Depending on what sales I can find, or if there are good GWPs, I might get two copies. It'll feel better having a big crane, and I can have the higher dock to serve the Clipper and my custom flagship. Plus you can mess with the officer/soldier ratio, which isn't great here. Should be 1 governor, 1 officer, 4 soldiers, and then some sailors. I guess I'll be digging around for more Steves, I know I have one on display and plenty of striped "pirates" who can easily become merchant sailors. Edit: If you buy this and got PoBB at MSRP, that's $415 out the door. LKC is nearly that by itself. So how's the play or display value for those, comparatively? Up to everyone to decide, but it seems pretty solid. I think with a good GWP, I'm fine grabbing this. I'm hoping it'll be the Majisto one, whenever that hits.
  19. Jay's review is up too, and has comparison photos against the original. I did notice that he has the wrong head for Broadside. Honestly, if the printing on torsos is too bad, I can swap originals. I have plenty of them by now.
  20. Brickset review is up: https://brickset.com/article/97564/review-10320-eldorado-fortress Edit: it is claimed that this is a renovated version, which accounts for the differences. I guess we'll see if the minifig lore is also updated. Edit 2: Without seeing it, but per the review, it's a new commander and officers. Which is fine by me, but I totally get that people will change heads to make for more interesting stories.
  21. I can add one data point. As a child, Eldorado was the pirates set I wanted most. It looked SO cool. If I go back through my bin from my childhood, I find a single pirates set: 6234, a measly little raft with a single pirate. So while I did covet the theme, I spent my money more on castle and space. Price per piece was better and it was easier to swoosh space sets. An important thing for a poor child who wanted to take Legos everywhere. Fast forward to the mid teens (the years, not my age), and as an adult with a friend who had been into Lego (and ended his dark ages earlier), I started getting back into it. Got some City stuff, LOTR, Creator, but nothing specific. Was only sorta into it. Eventually noticed that they had remade pirates, so I bought an ebay lot of some of the 2015 series. Built them, but it didn't scratch the itch. Too small, just...not right, somehow. Add a few more years with the occasional impulse purchase, and I discover that people sell bins of old Legos sometimes. Find this to be a way to acquire old sets for relatively cheap. Buy a bin with most of Eldorado, and buy a few lots to complete it. Since then, it has occupied a most hallowed shelf on my display. This is THE set, the white whale, the one I wanted most. In the meantime, of course, I've collected much of the original pirates line (and a lot of other lines besides), but if I had to have one set, Eldorado is it. I am a fan of the original set, and I am a fan of the new one. While I'd take any modern pirate set with 2500 pieces (and have PoBB waiting in the queue), this fills me with a joy that would surpass any other set (perhaps barring 10210) even when I own the original. I love that they remade this, albeit with modularity instead of the baseplate (obviously), with more details, with ladders (FINALLY!), and added the ship from 6277. Just...fantastic.
  22. Ooh, OK. That makes sense, I was honestly hoping to have a taller dock on the right side when you look face-on at the ramp. I guess that will be my first adjustment!
  23. If you go to the Lego page for this (https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/eldorado-fortress-10320) and look at picture 4, there's a high dock. But in the rotational video, that isn't there. Is that somehow internal to the fort? Or an alt build? Why can't I figure out where that is?
  24. It really is a chonky set from that angle. The monkey is a little odd to me, but that's such an easy fix. I've got monkeys, crabs, parrots, all good things to add to this. Fun fact, the crabs can hold swords and fight the imperials.
  25. I have a modified Clipper that I need to take pictures of and share here. I ended up with a couple of extra midsections in a haul, so I wanted to make a flag-ier ship. I'm hoping that the taller side dock on EF will work for it, since it seems logical that they would need to resupply and change out soldiers and such. It is built almost entirely with vintage parts and techniques though, so nothing crazy like you see in the MOCs posted here. This would be good, and it was what I was hoping to see in the thread, but alas. The CMFs are better I think, because they are representative of some of those nations and cultural identities without tying them into a story (of fighting cavalry or each other or whatever). A child can get some that look more like them and build their own play around it! That's true, and a tough nut to crack. Not everyone will ever agree in a group, if the group size is 2 or more. :P But if they're going to try to represent a group, especially one that has been historically marginalised or had outright hostilities declared on them, it's best to work with them to find out what seems OK. And if it fosters discussion on something that isn't right, that's a chance to learn and grow, which is what we should all be striving for. The problem is that there is a lot of hate going on right now, and sometimes it takes the forms of so-called play ("It's just a joke bro!" kind of shit). This makes it harder to distinguish innocent play and hurtful play. Totally! And you can learn about other cultures that way too! But the difference is that you're taking an interest in other views, and considering whether they are harmful or not. That's called growth, and we encourage it in kids all the time. It's a shame that so many adults don't introspect like you, because they might find out some things that aren't how they thought.
