The thing is: I have some fears of people later complaining about us not yet having the right solution & instead us all having tensions from such situations. And I can tell you it may get not easy (for me / from my limited dev knowledge within the forum platform) to create any solution fastly.. Sorry if my phrasing has been not clear enough on this - would be nice to get the hints for allowing me to phrase such better..

@Wolfpack As written in the initial posting, I would be happy to get the best ideas from the community. I understood the discussion in the Poll topic in ways of "filtering" concerning the people still for option 2 and 3, as we have no good solution in mind for all the "Theme Forums" or how we would ideally want to have MOCs placed. One option may be "creating cloned Theme / MOC Forums", another option could be "could get a shared Theme / MOC space if filtering would work well enough". I am not expecting "filtering" being the way to go, still I would like to gather as much ideas and opinions on the topic, as it may help me in later technical evalutation stages to hunt the pray we like to see. Edit: Added "MOC" to the terms.

I would hope so as well BUT it would have the implication directly for the people having used it in the open form, may be less happy of them not having that option any longer to freely pick tag names. Also search is supporting the tag system (clicking on a tag will open the search with the tag preselected)

I have to admit I have not ever worked with the tag system of the forum. If I remember correctly it supports two different modes from the backends: open mode, for everybody allowing to use own words for tags (I believe we are using that option right now) locked mode, only allowing prephrased tags When it comes to any "functions" related to the tags and others (search function), I am basically clueless at the current point in time... You mean its "non-function" - in the past I read plenty of recommendations like "better use google istead - the search is not really considered helpful" I was just testing... seems tags can be used as prefixes for topic titles. But seems only one tag can get selected:

The thought which went through my head: Any investment in this discussion is understood by myself as "the topic must be important to the person then" - regardless of how the opinion may sound! And I am happy for us easily agreeing on this

We may jump over - hope it is optional enough from the Subject to be understood as some open place for allowing ideas to be placed and discussed.

Hello, in the topic of the Community Poll a vivid discussion about possible options for future filtering started. This topic is for the people being interested in having deeper discussions & dialog about any thinkable options which would allow the different scenarios of the Poll to work out in the best ways for the most people of our community. I would like to "sponsor" the topic as I am interested in finding out what would be considered the best options and getting more insights from the community may allow me for later checking if those can get reality for us.

As I think @MKJoshA and also @Jim pointed out, I believe it would be best for leaving people the options to discuss on the poll in this topic. Shall I possibly open one, openly asking for discussing any filtering options we can think of & us moving over there?!

@General Magma From the screenshot I gave, the feature is called "Clubs" - so I am unsure if you were speaking of the current "tags" or if the phrase was meant for this "clubs" feature? Sorry for my poor understanding here.

But do they allow for people easily filtering out contents, they do not want to see?! Jsut to work with the idea I got from the one feature which may not be the working solution: Imagine everbody can take their choices easily like this & it would get reflected in the personal view (on 2 different levels: Brand Forum visibility AND topic-visibility within shared spaces). Wouldn't this solve all our issues from both sides, if we would have "this"?!

Not sure if this idea may help the discussion: If I understand correctly, our assumptions are, filtering can just work via subforum levels. This may work out on the brand level, as separation may be understood as the best solution between brand-likings. This may not work out well for any understood mixed subforums (Themes, MOCs). Wouldn't we be good with phrasing what kind of filtering-solution may help us in our situation?! I am open for finding any definition of how we would believe a filtering needs to work out to make both sides similary happy - nevertheless if it could't be achieved in the end, lets dream to test what options we can come up with!

Just from the technical perspective: I believe we have no well working solution for whatever preferred "filtering" people may speak about at hands directly. As I was mentioning the one feature from the forum software, I want to point out again "it is not fully QA checked if that would work out even" - so again "we have no solution to the issue yet". (I am also unsure if using the implemented tag system may be a well working option or not.. also needs more efforts for getting more exact knowledge)

I feel not presented well from that sentence somehow.. I respect every other opinion - but in any discussion about common realities one would be good to have explanations to offer which would allow the other side (me) to acknowledge "dang, your argument is right - even though I don't like it". I can only work with describing how my inner reception is working here: I respect any opinion, but if any opinion can't be explained to the extend of me finding it grounded in a reality which I could understand as working for me as well, then it gets really hard "for people like me" to understand where this other opinion is coming from. I can only say I would wish to understand better. But this may be my personal issue in understanding, I do not want to blame anybody else - I just wanted to express what is bugging me in my understanding. I have a picture in mind from Southpark from the underware imps and their plan: To me Phase 1 is "having an opinion", Phase 2 would be "the facts for allowing that opinion" & finally phase 3 "allowing me to understand the opinion" - without the middle part it is hard for me.. but instead of getting an explanation which may help me to resolve the equation, I am pointed to 1 again "Opinion, shall be enough to you" - to exaggerate it a bit..

As I like factual thingies: via https://www.lego.com/en-us/legal/notices-and-policies/fair-play - interesting that LEGO is stating their fears about whether 3rd party sites are sponsored or even authorized by the LEGO Group & this easily leading to misimpressions to their appreciated customers. Also I would believe "Enthusiasts" may be better than "Purists" then?! I am asking as I am no native english speaker & I would really like to know the better phrase here.

I can just agree on this. Also I can agree on "people have different goals and preferences for themself" - so if there are LEGO purists, wanting to only build with LEGO parts (for whatever reasons), that shall be respected. Likewise I personally would hope allowing the people with the different opinions on AltBrands also getting the chance for having a similar place. Even if I am no LEGO purist, I can fully understand and respect the historical reasons for feeling EB being a LEGO-only place (even though it may not be 100% accurate - but that does not matter for my understanding for the opinions believing in this for years.) - that needs to be respected on the opinionated opinion-based level. (I can just ask for excusing me a second time if my posts in the past of this topic felt not in this very way - then it has been only my bad!) I am just reminded of that joke for logical operants visualized in Venn diagrams: I would believe we need to find out if and how much the two groups may have overlap with each other, for example "we like to build with bricks in our hobby" as a very abstract one to start with.. At least we have some options from the picture I would assume..

I personally may not be within the main group of people you are interested in getting answers from, nevertheless I was visiting the link shortly. For others reading, I was visiting the link, everything seems legit to me: the link is leading towards a Google Forms Survey, also privacy is respected from the Forms' configuration and also the survey is short in length. The description just gave me a laugh... But I have to admit I am a huge Southpark fan since ever.. :)

I may think the products are mainly considered for children (with exceptions like the 18+ stuff which is marketed esp. as such) - I would assume a company would like to offer their not-adult-customers to have success in building the set without using sharp tools to cut pieces etc pp.. from that perspective I can understand it. So it may got an internal guideline like "we need to work with only the lengths our factories can produce for future sets".

I can't understand those detailed discussions, as I am buying those rigid hoses from RC-shops as it is just a part which is expected to wear down for my RC brickbuilt-motorcycles... Questions I (only hypothetically) would like to ask anybody investing time for such obvious very opiniated detail-discussions: What is the positive outcome for you participating? Do you ever feel satisfied of having "won an argument in the internet"? How much did the discussion help you to really enjoy life while spending time with your hobby (building with bricks, instead of discussing personal preferences we know may differ by person)?! As said, I don't need specific answers...

@anothergol I can totally understand the mentioned preferences - and we would be good to respect to allow them to also feel "EB still being the platform for their preference" - but possibly allow other people with other preferences the same service.. I can just work with my best wishes for LEGO purists not understanding this topic as "something is taken from us", but possibly allow the thought of "something similar, I appreciate for my prefs, may in similar ways be offered to other people for their prefs". I know that can't just be theoretical as for example the Theme-Forums and MOCs seem to be a topic for creating mixed feelings - we for sure will have some interesting upcoming discussions then, but only the future can tell if such will work out. But I am strongly believing in "us together finding the right solutions"!

Happy for you being open - be sure I will invest myself as much as I can to allow that experience for you, as you shall still feel EB being your place as well (when it comes to finding technical solutions or such..).

Where one door closes, another one may open - if enough people feel the same, a new "dedicated to the brand LEGO only" slow-paced forum may be started by anybody who would like to invest himself in such with time, efforts and money, right?! I would wish this person the best luck and all the best for their plans! The only advise I would hand: Better don't start with the product we are using, I can not really recommend the service quality and prices of the vendor - there may be much better (free) alternatives for anybody starting from scratch!

I am somehow reminded of the square–cube law.. as LEGO grew so much costs for keeping that shape may be bigger than for a smaller competitor - but there may also be greed of managers in a neoliberal global capitalistic world - truth may be somewhere inbetween.. :D
