2025/26 Castle [wishlist/speculation]
Triceron replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I've had lots of ideas. I'd like to see a Bear-totem barbaric faction, like berserkers and runed-axe wielders wearing furs or animal skins. I want them to ride giant grizzly bears into battle! A bit of inspiration from the wodewose (wildman) from medieval lore and arthurian legend. They wouldn't have a traditional emblem. Their faction symbol could be more tribal like large claw marks in a crude runic sigil. I'd also like to see a faction of Adventuring knights. Treasure hunters, bounty seekers, Relic Hunters. They'd be like the Grail Knights of Arthurian legend, Noblemen and common folk banded as brothers seeking magical artifacts and ancient lore. This could tie into a broader Lego history, where many of their 'artifacts' are parts from long lost Lego themes, like Atlantis or Time Twisters. Some knights could even be distant relatives of some Adventurers characters. And I really double on the Desert-Snake faction. We could really use one for Castle. -

I'm in the same boat for MTS. I bought farm animals in preparation of the MTS but realized I don't even really need the set anymore. The animals were enough for me to build my own cottage and start a small farm village moc. I'n waiting for a price drop, otherwise I will PAB the minis and skip it entirely. 3-in-1 has a decent enough Village build and its practically half the price. -

Yay! I just hope I can find work before this GWP comes out. I need to build up my funds again for a GWP. Also the Minifigure Factory prints can be used as a basis for custom prints, like this example I found on Reddit. But you gotta use letters and symbols to make this, so still a pain to achieve. -

Nice observation! I hadn't even thought of Empire because my mind always equated standard fare Humans to be represented by Lion Knights. But thinking back, even Karl Franz rides a rampant Gryphon into battle. Now i just wish there were a big beefy gryphon mount just for that. I feel like there's a huge missed opportunity for modular animal molds, like custom parts you put over standard 'lion' torso to make a different creature out of. Sorta like how Jurassic World Dinosaurs are already semi-modular, where you can swap out legs or heads. Then we can make mythic or fantasy beasts like manticore, chimaera, displacer beasts, etc -
Not quite what I was expecting. I thought it would be a diorama piece with purely brick built balrog and Gandalf, not à minifig set. I'm not sold on the Balrog. Proportions are all off to me, and it looks too much like a toy than the beast it should be representing. I guess the head just doesn't work for me at all, and is too big for the build. But I figure the scale is set to the piececount and budget, so def not an 18+ build. Hopefully some mocs will help fix this one up.

https://www.lego.com/en-gb/product/batman-batsub-and-the-underwater-clash-76116 Only comes in one set in this color as far as I know. There are 2 pearl gold ones in a different Aquaman set. I lucked out and got all 3 in a thrift store bundle. The sub is surprisingly solid build, I might modify it to fit the Fright Knights somehow. -

I made some dark green cloaks in anticipation of the Krakens. This one is based on the Falconer cape. I might try a few different styles, like the battle torn Orc cape. -

I was thinking about how to use the 4 new factions in my Castle/Fantasy universe. Horse Knights - The white on blue emblem is very striking and fits the style and theme of the DnD Dragonborn shield. I'm thinking of having this represent a faction of Warhammer style High Elves (who also use blue ans white motif), and I might use these shields to represent infantry while the Dragon shields to represent Elites, like Dragon Princes. The emblem wouldn't be a full faction, but more a sign of rank and file To make them stand out as Elves I'm thinking of having them use fleshtones instead of yellow. I'll have to find some LOTR elf ears. Snake Knights - I thought this could work to represent a Persian/Arabian/Desert dweller themed faction, like the people of Dorne, or the Shield breaker from Darkest Dungeon. However the shield is using the Master shield mold, and they're represented by a nobleman so it doesn't really fit how I'd like it to work. I'd prolly prefer a round shield with the snake emblem. Also, anyone think this dude was inspired by BlackAdder? Kraken Knights - I'm going to use the Atlantean helmets from DC line to make some fantasy themed sea raiders. They'll command dark watery magic, and have the supernatural aid of various sea monsters. I plan to have them rival the Black Knights if they ever release a Sea Serpent remake. My inspiration is the Dark Elf Corsairs from Warhammer, like Lokhir Fellheart I've got some dark green velvet ribbon I used to make cloaks for the Rogue CMF, I may make more. For this faction. Gryphon Knights - I'm stuck on what subculture or hook to give them. I have buckbeack ready to be used as a mount for them, but I'm stuck on how else to up their look. I might make some custom silver cloaks for them, or maybe make them styled off the Brettonians from Warhammer. I'm still thinking on this. -
Is it just me or is Army building really really expensive?
Triceron replied to Alcarin's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
For me, army building is overrated. I bought 20+ Lion Knights parts on PAB, and they're still in a box. I have up to 50 of em left with no where to display. My average number for new minis is 3-7, average new faction army between 5-11. Any more and they get shelved in bins. The only exception has been my Fright Knight army, because I added every horror themed mini to make a halloween-esque monster mash. I only plan to get 3-4 Kraken, Snake, Griffin and Horse knight torsos and shields, and just mix and match with whatever to make mini army displays. It's going to get increasingly expensive as time progresses, demand rises and whatever real life economic factors like inflation/supply/tariffs making it harder to get stuff in bulk at a reasonable value. -

Triceron replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I've sorted out a bunch of my loose bricks into bins by color yesterday, didn't realize how many colors there were nowadays. I had a bunch of pastels I didn't even know I had. Anyways, I'm having a weird time trying to figure out a proper color scheme for the Kraken knights for a small raiding ship. That and what kind of culture I want them to have. I'm not a big fan of the copper viking helm or going with a viking aesthetic, so I'll probably be sticking to greys with gold accents for them instead. I can see they will be using dark green, so I'll keep that as a motif. I'm thinking using either olive green or sand green as accents for algae growth on sections of the ship. In my mind, their culture will be raiding-heavy, taking what they want and slaving others. A mix of Ironborn from ASOIAF and the Druchii (Dark Elf) Corsairs from Warhammer. I think I might use greys and dark greys as a base color for their ships. I'n considering whether to use brown or tan for wooden parts. I want to avoid Black as much as possible. -

I lucked out and snagged a thrift store bundle that had the Atlantean helmets (1 grey 2 gold) from Aquaman sets. I'm ready for the Kraken pieces to go up on PAB. Just hoping they stock up well. I also have some grey fuselage pieces that I might use to make a small raising ship for the Kraken. I plan to have em rival the Black Knights' ships -
[Poll] What is Your Favorite Castle Faction/Subtheme?
Triceron replied to SpacePolice89's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I grew up around the Forestmen era, but Black Knights was when I really had choice in which Lego sets I could get. The visored helms and the armor were gamechangers. But man, hard to pick favourites. Each faction had its own personality, it wasn't just more of the same with a different emblem. They each added to the world. Which is kind of sad to me how we are getting 4 more factions, but each lack a distinct hook or personality. They're all being dropped in our laps without context, and I'd prefer something distinct to ground them into the world beyond being 'Castle Faction with new colors' -
Too many good ones to choose, but Vampire Knight was the biggest win for me so far. Close second is probably Rogue. I missed out too. Pandemic was a bummer. Luckily I snagged a Tourney knight torso in a thrift store bundle, total win. It was missing an arm, but I stocked up on Black Falcon torsos on PAB and had some extra dark red hands to fix him up. Still missing the shield and legs, so I'm using it to rep the Cross Axe faction for now.

New molds I can see being a downer, but apples to apples. It's not like the creator 3-in1 gave us anything we couldn't get elsewhere and it was still a fantastic 'Castle' set that was many people's gateway back to Castle themes. It does suck we don't have small sets or battlepacks, but tbh there's only two outcomes I've cone to terms with. Either it's gonna be some hard to find CMF everyone wants to army build, or it"s an expensive or obscure set that's not ideal to get more than one of unless you really have the funds. I think we have the variety we've been looking for, just not the value of Ninjago, which I think is the standard many expect to weigh it against. Every year has been good to us, but it's never going to be great all the time. Lego is playing the long game on us fans. -

Every year since Blacksmith has been a good year for castle fans. We got medieval town square and Bat lords, return of Wolfpack, and now new factions. Whatever Castle hasn't offered, Bricklink Designer Program has provided. And D&D opened up a ton of moc potential. If anything, I just want smaller sets, not just big sets, GWP and the odf CMF. FOMO is real when trying to collect other themes while also being a Castle fan. -

Triceron replied to GreenhouseBricker's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
True, though I think a green roof looks appropriate for an Alchemists shop. Perhaps a color pairing with the sand green tiles could work too, if you'd want to save on tiles. I'd just want the shields to appear on PAB, or better yet BAM for the best value bulk purchase. I lucked out on a Tourney Knight torso, but I need the Raven shield to really complete him. -

Since I already have 3 Blacksmiths, I'd prolly just buy the green tiles off PAB and make my own 'Alchemists shop'. All the decals are gonna be stickers anyways. -

Lion Knight legs went down in price in Canada, 60 cents per. Bought a bunch in a PAB order and used my Black Friday Vouchers for $15 off, got it with a 6 pack CMF order for free shipping. Lion knights also coming to BAM, so the torsos and shield might be cheapest option there. Less than a dollar each by my calculations. That is if your stores allow free pick for 15 parts. -

I wouldn't mind the ravens if just to get the actual figure and shield. They're super pricy on the aftermarket. I only managed to get a torso last month from a lucky thrift store purchase. It was missing an arm, but I patched it with a black falcon and a nexo knight lavadudes hand. Still need the legs and shield for a proper fig. I tried other shields like the cross Axes, but the yellow doesn't match quite right. I'm still hoping for griffin and kraken. We should have em all! -

Most could be reuse. Tailored BK soldiers and torso prints could be specific to future BK sets, while creator just introduces the shield as a new element. I could see introducing a new Black Knights triangle shield that gets used in other sets in the future. The black knights had generic scale armor prints that didn't have a specific insignia, so creator could use whatever existing torso that fits, including viking stuff. If they want, a Dragon Master torso print already existed from majistos gwp. A single Wolfpack torso gets reused from MTS for a bandit. Full new ovoid shields for BK and DM would be future CMF territory. If they plan on secret BK specific sets or GWP, they could also contribute to the budget, just like forest hideout introduced forestmen before LKC did. It's not far from the previous castle having black falcon torso and shields. The only new piece would be the Black Knights triangle shield here. -

I'm leaning on this if it isn't the castle hinted at from the dragon boxart We have plenty of gray castles, time to return to some black ones, which works for dragon masters and wolfpack as well. Would be the perfect setup for 3 in 1. Wizards tower, Knights Castle, or a Bandit's Keep. I introduced the glow in the dark feature to my 3yr old daughter. Now she always wants the lights out in the dining room to see them glow in their display -

I've been contemplating joining lugs, but I don't think I'm committed enough to do large bulk purchases. I often get my parts from bulk thrift store purchases, facebook marketplace deals and any major discounts I can find. My income is too unstable to commit to a long term plan. Even now Medieval Town Square is outside my reach even though I've spent a couple hundred on vaeious side purchases in preparation of expanding the village ( over the course of months)- 685 replies
