Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!
swils replied to Kintobor's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Hey Arthur, look around for a bottle like the one in this painting, would ya?" With that, he makes his way downstairs to the Foyer and gives it a similarly cursory look-over.- 500 replies

Well, yeah, but the issue is that those items were included, heh. Casinos exist entirely around chance based games, but they don't offer dice or roullette balls or card decks as prizes, so I don't think that's exactly a reasonable rationale for it being the reward. I'm not as much worried about the retrospect -- you seem to have learned from your mistakes. What I wanted to know was why you chose to include those items in the first place.
-
I don't mean to harp, but I really don't feel like this has been discussed thoroughly enough. The exact case, maybe, but I'd like to get your thoughts behind it. Your last sentence there, I really agree with, and yet, as I've mentioned before, it is something that you seem to have a habit of going directly against. Is it just a realization you finally made after this quest? What was your rationale for including, even at "nigh-impossible" odds, the Lucky Die? It could have easily been any other high-value item with slightly improved odds (mithril/adamantium ore or chunks, bright polish/grating stones, etc), but you chose to go with one of the more controversial items in the game. I just want to understand your thought process behind it.

The ones they sell up here range from +1 to +5 Insulation. Quite the stat boost at -40 or below.

Uh, I do. No one ever looks in the sock drawer!

I hate this generalization. I see it everywhere. It is so very rarely the same parties that argue both sides of the coin in situations like this (and when it is, it's because they're trolling, heh). Who, between the winning roll and your post, complained about it being too easy? I see some congratulations/"uh oh another permalucky"/joking-about-nerfing-rogues posts, but only two stick out to me as "complaining", Doc and Flipz. Flipz simply restated what he originally put forth: he didn't think the game was winnable within reason. Doc restated that he disagreed with the item being reintroduced at all. There's no complaining about making it too easy. At worst, it's just complaining about the reintroduction of the artifact, no matter how stacked the odds were against it. And I think that's a valid complaint, given all the countless discussions we've all had on the subject over the years, regardless of the fact that Sandy approved it with restrictions and that it was acquired within those restrictions. Personal opinion here: This is just another example of why B&P quests are a min-max'ers dream. For years, I've seen this. I've never had any interest in his quests for their story or their sets, but that loot, drool. I swear, it seems like every quest he hosts, there is at least one hot-topic item dropped/made available. Other quests have 'em sometimes, sure, but for the same host to repeatedly have something crop up that raises debate? If you want loot that straddles a very fine line, go on B&P quests.

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!

Dining Hall, Foyer, Downstairs Corridor, Upstairs Hallway, Spare Bedroom, Bathing Room each have yet to be visited. "Sorry, sorry, yer right. It's gettin' late and I'm just foolin' around. C'mon, Arx, let's go check the hallways." Thormanil and Arx step out of the master bedroom into the Upstairs Hallway, taking better note of the surroundings this time than when they had first hurried through to get ahead of Lind.- 500 replies

Well whatever way he manages it, should he ever, "over Thormy's dead body" will be a pretty integral part of it! Heh

Once Arthur gets his great rep with the Shadeaux... Good luck! :P

I can be a spiteful person, especially when it comes to being lazy.

I just googled your question and found an answer in ten seconds.

Lind, I might suggest cutting back on the number of OoC comments you make. It's been nearly one per post, or seems that way, heh.

"Only enemies that drop gold can be stolen from." they said. "Surely that will prevent people [like Guts] from hauling in huge sums of cash!" they said.

Heroica RPG- Quest #103: Alfendi Lupine Strikes Again!

And Thormanil. You'll wait for him too, right? Go ahead and put that Shadeaux Cape as my 4th equipped artifact, adding +12 (4*3) SP due to reputation. I'd also like to further complicate your life by lending to Guts the following, with the explicit understanding that any items are only to be used with my permission, because, well, Grating Stones. 37 items total: 1x Wyvern's Tailblade, 1x Tongue on a Stick, 3x Trickster's Masks (all 3 variants), 1x Fighting Boots, 1x Sticky Gloves, 1x Aqua Gear, 2x Amethyst, 1x Emerald, 1x Opal, 2x Potion, 1x Jinxy Juice, 1x Milk, 3x Venom, 3x Bones, 2x Smoke Bomb, 2x Fire Bomb, 1x Lightning Bomb, 1x Ice Bomb, 5x Water Bomb, 2x Grating Stone, 1x Bright Polish, 1x Teleportapple. I've included an updated version of my inventory with a handy "Lent to Guts" section, if that makes things any easier, plus the cape and its proper defense boost. Emptying his things into Guts' care, his old Frozen Saber clangs as it hits the ground. With fond memories of the blade, Thormanil taps the young rogue on the shoulder with the blunt side. "Y'look like you could use a proper sword. Lady may've said not to expect violence, but I'd be lyin' if I said that was the first time I'd heard that one. Wanna hang onto this just in case?"- 500 replies

Approaching Anwyl, Thormanil takes off his Winged Sandles and sets them on the counter, alongside a pile of elemental gemstones. "Work yer magic, if you'd kindly." Winged Sandals + Aquamarine + Diamond + Garnet + Ruby + Sapphire + Topaz = 1968 - (6*50) = 1668 Gold Leaving Anwyl to his expert craft, he makes his way to Portia's, where he buys 2 Nostrum, 2 Mulled Wine, and 1 Phoenix Essence. 2*35 + 2*55 + 1*50 = 1438 Gold On his way back to the blacksmith, he makes one last stop at Gnomeo's, picking up a dusty Magnifying Glass. 1388 - 30 = 1408 Gold

Written rule, i think it mentions it in Anwyl's section of the marketplace.
