Lego Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square Discussion Thread
Yoggington replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
My brother in bricks, same here (well, without the day off). I could only justify one of these. Interestingly, I landed the other side of the fence and find the €230 option more appealing. Mountain fortress has some very attractive ideas, but I reckon I can just peek at the instructions and pick and choose what I like. What a great idea. If I didn't have 27 other future projects in my head, I might join you in this quest. Share pics if you ever get round to it, would love to see how you'd make it work! -
As someone whos been slowly putting an abbey together for some time, this is excellent. I fully intend to steal some ideas borrow some inspiration here.

Can vouch for LightMyBricks as something I've used before with no issues. My only qualm would be the price. Once you get the hang of how it works when professionally sold, it's not a huge leap to achieve the same goals using a variety of cheap-as-chips electronics you can get from a local store or an amazon. Bevin's Bricks on YouTube covers the basics (although he's leaning more towards selling his own sets now I fear). Also for adding pics, your best bet is to upload them to a image host such as imgur.com or flickr, and then just link them across as direct links or displayed images. What limited storage you have here is really just for small 'avatar' pics and the like.

Hard to tell until better pics, but it's possibly a long version of a Lion faction shield in there. Looks maybe like a half-red, half-blue, with a golden lion head. 20 of those from PAB in the future please. -
You've got a 'love it' from me. Lots to love here indeed. In particular the shaping to the building's rear is very clever.

My expectations were low... ..and I love what I see. There's a few flaws alright, but entirely easily fixable. In particular, the colour-combination on the right-most building (olive green & dark tan) doesn't work for me, so I'll be colour-swapping that. Near every roof could use some work too. In fact a lot of the build looks a bit simple, and I'd be curious to see the back of the box for interiors and how exactly the building fold on themselves, but it's very likely a week 1 buy for me. I might even (and I've never done this for anything over €20) buy a second before end-of-life. In particular I love how linked it is to the LKC using the same slim five-wide style for the turret, & the similar window. Is the red building a re-imagining of the guarded inn? *chefs kiss* Looks like you can swap out the stall with the one from the castle perfectly too (or just pull the castle one to make the square a little more bustling). -
Disney Properties 2024 - Rumors & Discussion

Eeep, the roof looks a hot mess (imo) and with it taking up so much of the model on display it's a hard pass for me. The original submission had a much better balance. A few nice parts though, hopefully enough of them make it to PAB. -
I had a good look at this and the previous over on Flickr, then I forgot to come back and comment. Really excellent work, and very similar to what I'm slowly planning for. (Just gotta get out of this apartment into a house in the new year!)

Annoying pop up ads in the lower part of the screen
Yoggington replied to SpacePolice89's topic in Forum Information and Help
I would take a look at BoardGameGeek - a boardgame forum & database. They are in a similar sphere - a community of users who are happy to spend on their hobby - just board games instead of Lego in this case. I feel like they are a bit bigger than Eurobricks - with 20~ employees, some of whom are full-time. Have a look at their operating model for fundraising: https://boardgamegeek.com/support Typically this is a once-per-year drive to collect donations from their members. They keep it very transparent around what they need and what they have raised. In return, a member gets some cosmetic perks, badges for your profile, full ad-blocking that kind of thing. -

I'm, pretty subscription-averse, but options for one-off payments sound good. Doesn't have to be a kickstarter, could just be a 'buy me a coffee' link. I know Paypal (which a lot of Bricklinker buyers probably already use) has an option for a donation button, which you can also link to a target goal. E.g., if you have a €2000 target annually, you can show this visually and do some kind of fundraising drive on a yearly basis. Maybe tied to competitions, idk. What are your approximate costs? E.G. If the top 100 members gave €5 each, does €500 cover it? Or is it closer to a couple of thousand needed? -

What a fantastic model. I'm very appreciative that you were able to keep such restraints and still have it turn out so well. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Yoggington replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
On closer inspection, I also have this issue. I don't have a full street set-up, just two modulars side by side, so the pavement gap is not as evident. I suppose this is a side effect of having a 48-wide modular, combined with some stress differences between either the colours or the fact that on is a top layer and one is a bottom. Interesting quirk. -

It was in my planned budget, but then my phone suddenly needed replacing. Ah well, I'm not sure I have the space for it regardless. I look forward to the instructions, I can incorporate some elements into a home build hopefully. -

I'm not trying to compare the sets or predict a crap set, I'm trying to compare the hype train. When Majisto GWP was leaked a lot of posters built up the set in their minds through months of anticipation, and were (unsurprisingly) disappointed. At the rate the thread is hyping this set, anything shy of something spectacular is going to be greeted with complaints of all the things the designers didn't do. For a closer example to the point I was trying to make - see the kinda lukewarm reception to the Eldorado remake. The GWP example just seemed to fit better in this Castle thread. -

I'm not sure this analogy holds up as it was not a global survey. Don't forget this is all based on a leak that wasn't supposed to be public knowledge. On top of that, this was during a feedback cycle, so adjustments may welll have been made based on the results. It may end up closer to a dealership asking one person how much they'd pay for this red ferrari, and based on that response, offering a red chevrolet to the general public at large. Remember the Majisto GWP, and dampen your hype! -
I really like that roof technique with the quarter tiles. Lovely job.

Help with identifying parts/sets!
Yoggington replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Woah, blast from the past. My brother had this when we were kids. BrickBuilder is spot on here. The reason you couldn't find it is because it is the back of the box 'B-Model' of the set. This site has instructions for the jeep, starting from page 10: https://www.toysperiod.com/lego-set-reference/technic/model/robot/lego-8852-robot/ -

I'm a big fan of the 'Canal Lock', but I can't see Lego picking it up. Honestly I can't see many of these being what Lego are looking for. Maybe the jukebox? Is it possible to have a review with zero sets being converted? -
Annoying pop up ads in the lower part of the screen

I wouldn't suggest putting the whole site behind a paywall, but a Patreon option (or better again - a non-recurring 'buy me a coffee' link) might be taken up by some members, and every little helps. There's enough Lego YouTubers generating some income this way. I am thinking of something similar to the hobby website/forum for board games - BoardGameGeek. Every January they have a fundraising drive to support running costs. Without knowing whether they make a lot from it, they come back every January so it must be worth something. -

Is there any other way to support the running costs of the forum? A Patreon or the like? No chance I'm turning off my various blockers. -

My understanding of this piece in this location is simply to give a solid grasping point for opening and closing the castle, without pulling the whole thing to bricks. -
Sam & Frodo in the Orc outfits is a very good idea. Add me to the stack of people that wouldn't care if the locations were somewhat merged. Add a dungeon room and my brain automatically merges them anyway. (The die-hards can know that it's most definitely a completely different dungeon)

I have spotted this on a fair few sets. Typically the white inner is approx half the size of the outer, and typically it fits all the bags (at least on a repackaging as I bag them to the attic). I've noticed it specifically on the Lion Knight Castle, and multiple sets from the modular line. I think the possible reasons are well know, but it still seems like such a waste.

I came across the Space Base on shelves already today in Zaragosa, Spain. First time I ever say an early release for myself in the wild.

There's a lot of great details here. My favourites are the variety of roofs - especially the ingot bricks and the way you tucked them away at the edges, very clever!
