A gearbox would really take this model to the next level, but of course it also needs to look good on the outside, which it does now! Great progress!

Yeah I meant that but I forgot the actual name. That’s why I wrote: ‘chromed’

The released picture also shows a different colour between the grille and the other LBG parts, so maybe the ‘chromed’ 2x1 radiator of the Mack Anthem returns

I remember getting this set as a child (I’m now eightteen) and my dad said that I would have some time building. I ended up finishing it in three days and I always had fun playing with it. The progress you have now is very good! Is there going to be an opening cabin or grille to reveal the fake engine?

It looks pretty good! As you stated yourself, it's not the prettiest model I've ever seen, but it sure looks nice! Well done!

I think you should use a mudguard. The contest is about recreating the model as if it was designed today and I'm sure Lego would use mudguard or some other sort of cover. Great progress for the other parts!

Also, trucks with cranes on the rear (e.g. timber trucks) also often have fourth axle steered, so the turning point lies somewhere in the middle of the two fixed axles

Maybe it's not an alternating beam but a 5x7 frame in black

The hood doesn't look like it's openable, but I hope Lego has some clever solution to open the hood... As for the liftaxle, one knob on the side controls it, as seen on the sticker.

Altough it’s very realistic to have a kind of special paint on the stickers, but I’m not sure I like it... I liked the older stickers better. But of course you don’t have to apply them, that’s the upside of stickers! Btw, I only see this now, there are side AND rear outtrigers, very nice!

Hello everyone, The model I'd like to present to you today is a DAF XF Timber Truck. The creation of this model has a little short story. I had build Technicprojects' DAF XF tractor and Time-HH's low loader, but I wasn't satisfied. So, (I don't even know where I got the idea from anymore, but anyway) I decided to build a Timber Truck. I used Technicprojects cab, so many thanks to him! I already added the fourth axle to the DAF, so that was already done. So I had to create a loading area for wood. Since 42098 has many panels that wasn't a problem. I also wanted to make a crane, but I didn't know how, so I decided to first build the dolly and the trailer. So said, so done. I build those two, fairly quick, because they were mostlly beams and panels. Then I came back to the crane. A little more problems here. I wanted to use only parts from 42098 so I wanted the gear racks to be the main actuators. After a bit of trouble, I came up with what I have now. Because I already used many liftarms, the crane is a bit multi-coloured. It's also a bit too high, but it's Lego, not a scale model. That was the story behind the creation of this MOC. The MOC represents a DAF XF, in a LHV configuration. This kind of combination, a LHV timber truck, is used a lot in Scandinavia, but there mostly with Volvo's and Scania's. Again, I used Technicprojects wonderful DAF, so all the credit for the cabin goes to him. I made some changes though. The steering angle was increased, and of course i added the fourth axle. I also used PF instead of PU, because the two outputs from the servo were very handy for two steering axles. I also made a logging crane, with a grabber . The crane is a bit ugly, but that's because I limited myself to the parts of 42098. Unfortunately, I had to use two U-joints for controls, so those are the only non-electric parts that aren't from 42098 or 42109. The DAF has as functions: - RC drive: two middle axles driven by PF L-motor - RC steering: first and last axle driven by PF Servo motor - Openable doors - Fully functional crane - Liftable and steerable fourth axle The dolly hasn't got much functions, only a lockable fifth wheel, so there are no pictures of it alone. The trailer is not modeled after a particular trailer. It hasn't got any functions apart from the outtriggers. It also has two spare wheels, but that's just decoration. Looking great, but I agree with @mpj that using panels could make this model even better, cause the contest isn't about changing all the studded beams with studless beams. And also I'm not sure if the old crank solution should be there since it is about modern technic, with modern parts, and that part isn't used nowadays, but that's a little nitpicking.

Looking good, great choice! I agree with you that the wheelbase should be a little longer.

Looks really cool! Also great that there is an motorisation option. I have only one thing that I miss, but that’s just for me personal: I miss some sideskirts to prevent cyclists from ending up under the truck, but I don’t know if every garbage truck has them. Otherwise very great model!

I’m currently modifying an alternate model of set 42098, and I want to make a crane for it. I want to keep it only to 42098 parts, so there are no linear actuators. Is it possible to make a crane without linear actuators? I had the idea of letting this axle (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=63965&idColor=11#T=C&C=11) slide trough a pin or a axle hole, but I can’t figure out how to connect them. Anyone any ideas? (not necesarrily based on my idea, any idea is welcome)

Maybe they chance that, it’s still not the official model. A €300 licensed set without opening doors is almost impossble IMO
