My review is up! This time I did not put an inappropriate facial expression in the thumbnail :) The engine is fascinating! Me, Sariel, and Racingbrick all released our reviews of the SAME set at the SAME time! What an insane coincidence! The universe works in strange ways!

Signed Set Boxes
Unbrickme replied to Unbrickme's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I did not get this as an ambassador. LEGO sent it to me as a thank you for designing the official robot Neptunian for the LEGO mindstorms app. I'd estimate roughly 25 signed copies of this mindstorms set there are in existence If you were to sell it, how much would you sell it for? I'm very interested in buying it- 20 replies

I mean, I guess LEGO can break the two year pattern on occasion. the bucket wheel excavator, rough terrain crane, 42100 excavator, and the cat d11 bulldozer are all considered to be part of the same series. Their release schedule, respectively, is this: 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021. However, notice that 2019 was the first year in lego technic to get the new control+ system, which possibly led to the excavator being released a year earlier. In fact it was supposed to be released in August of 2019 because it was supposed to be the set that introduced the control+ system, but due to production issues it got pushed back to october. So that's the main reason for the breaking of the two year pattern here, control+. There are plenty of other sets that follow the two year pattern, such as the 1:8 supercars. porsche 911 gt3 rs - 2016 bugatti chiron - 2018 lamborghini sian - 2020 ferrari daytona - 2022 Also the small $50 cars chevrolet corvette - 2019 mclaren senna gtr - 2021 bugatti bolide -2023 Maybe the $50 pullback sets of 2022 can be put into this category as well? That would break the two year pattern, but those sets are pullback so they don't really count in my opinion. But if the two year pattern follows, I guess we can expect $50 pullback sets again in 2024 Also the 1:10 scale cars have a 2 year pattern porsche 911 rsr - 2019 ferrari gt3 rs - 2021 According to the pattern we should have seen a 1:10 scale car in January 2023, but we didn't. According to rumors though, we will see a $200 Peugeot 9X8 Hypercar on May 1st. Perhaps LEGO still follows the two year pattern with the 1:10 scale cars but the release just got pushed back a few months. I mean, fair enough, considering January isn't the best time to release expensive sets, since people just bought expensive things a few weeks earlier for christmas. I mean, it's always possible that the two year pattern breaks, but I feel like LEGO already had a very strong schedule with these two year patterns. I feel like the liebherr crane was indeed supposed to be released in 2022, but then the marketing department came in and said "we have to follow the two year pattern" which is why it was delayed -

They're both control+ sets with around 4k pieces. They were released at the same time two years apart. Therefore, the successor to this series, the liebherr crane, will be released in october of 2023 -

I doubt it, LEGO Technic sets follow a two year release pattern. With the 42100 and the cat d11 both being released in october of 2019 and 2021 respectively, I think it is safe to say that the new crane will be released in october 2023 and not in august -
Its predecessor the 8053 could easily be motorized with the power functions battery box, and the new battery box is not that much bigger. I guess if the set were designed to accommodate upgradeability the back would be more optimized for the new battery box

I looked it up, and it turns out that the motor in question is not available on the main LEGO website. On the LEGO education website, it says that the motor is retiring soon.

I have designed a concept for the LEGO Powered Up Accessory Box. It is a successor to the 8293 Power Functions Motor set and it would be used to upgrade various technic sets. Please see the image below. My concept contains the basic powered up battery box, a medium motor, lights, the two piecs for the linear clutch, and a few pieces like axles, gears and universal joins just like in the previous power functions motor set Remember back when we could upgrade so many different cheap technic sets? For example, there would be so many technic sets sold for under $100-$150 that had a single knob and a distribution GEARBOX to control the different functions. Essentially, the motor would replace the manual knob and the functions would be controlled by the gearbox, as seen in many older technic sets like the 8294 excavator, the 8295 telehandler, the 8265 front loader, and so many more! Also manual pneumatics sets would be ready for the power functions accessory box, like the tractor with log loader as well as the ew160e. Using that motor set, you could easily add a motorized pneumatic compressor. My goal is to bring that same level of motor upgradeability to the new technic sets, as was seen in the power functions era. Also, keep in mind that back in the power functions era, we got many, many more manual sets with a distribution gearbox. These days fully manual sets completely lack a distribution gearbox, as seen with missed opportunities to put the distribution gearboxes in sets like the 42108 mobile crane, which could have EASILY included a distribution gearbox instead of multiple manual knobs that each control their own function. My point is, that the presence of the previous power functions motor set REQUIRED the designers to add a distribution gearbox to all of the mid-size to larger manual models, the reason why they had the distribution gearboxes, is BECAUSE they had to be motor upgradeable. The distribution gearbox was added so that the single motor in the power functions accessory box could control multiple functions. If we had a powered up accessory box, many of the modern manual models would include a distribution gearbox, BECAUSE they would need to be motor upgradeable due to the powered up motor set. Just the presence of the powered up motor set would automatically cause an increase in the complexity of technic models. These days, the only type of gearbox that modern manual sets get is the speed transmission gearbox, which is WAYYYYYY less fun to play with than a distribution gearbox, and transmissions in manual models are kinda rare in technic sets anyways. Remember that the All Terrain Vehicle is an exception, not the rule when it comes to technic sets. As a kid, I was extremely fascinated with distribution gearboxes, and I still am. But, as a kid, I didn't find speed transmission gearboxes in manual models to be that interesting. The speed of the fake engine slightly changes, so what. But when I played with a distribution gearbox, the same axle that I was spinning suddenly controlled something else! My mind was blown! For example, my concept could be used to upgrade the 42128 Heavy Duty Tow Truck. The motor could be used to power a pneumatic compressor, making all of the pneumatic functions much more fun to play with. The lights could also be used to upgrade the truck's headlights. Another way this set could be used is to upgrade the 42108 mobile crane, motorizing the functions of the crane! Also remember that if that set were made to be motor upgradeable, it would have contained a distribution gearbox. Many affordable technic sets could easily be motorized with the help of this accessory box. This set could also be an easy way for new fans to get into the Powered Up system. Personally, I greatly enjoyed the ability to upgrade many of my manually operated technic sets using the Power Functions motor set. They were so much more fun to play with after the upgrade. Please let me know what you think of my concept LEGO set. Also, I go into greater deal regarding my LEGO Powered Up Motor Set concept in my video here, starting at 0:24. If you are more interested in my concept, I strongly urge you to watch it.

Please let me know your honest opinions about my OFFICIAL robot Neptunian. I would love to hear some criticisms so that I can improve in the future. You can find it in the LEGO Mindstorms robot inventor app if you wanna learn more about it, but i will summarize its functions here. Basically it has two modes. In the first mode, it spins around randomly until it finds the target. then it will open its head and fire. In the second mode Neptunian enters the obstacle avoidance mode, where the robot avoids obstacles like walls normally. However, once it sees an unexpected obstacle, such as if you place your hand suddenly in front of the sensor, it will open its head and fire Here is my video of my robot Neptunian. It has even been featured by Sariel's Bricks & Pets in his review of the mindstorms set:

Yeah rumors do have a very high success rate. The crane was only rumored to come out in 2022, it was never confirmed by LEGO. It's possible that the leakers simply got this wrong. Maybe the design process of the crane is already finished, which is why leakers thought it would be released this year, but LEGO just decided to hold off on releasing the product, not because they need more time developing the set, but simply because they want to align with the 2 year pattern. Not all rumors end up being true. The farm truck was rumored to be the delorean time machine but nope it turned out to be a farm truck.

No there is a 2 year pattern. 2019 had the 42100 excavator, 2021 had the cat d11 bulldozer, and according to that two year pattern, 2023 will be the year to get the next giant technic set in october. I don't think that the rumored crane was delayed I think its release schedule was just pushed back to meet the 2 year pattern

Good points, although I strongly doubt that LEGO would make a truck based on the Kamaz trucks -
42147 Dump Truck
Unbrickme replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I believe that this model was designed by the legendary Markus Kossman because the license plate says "KM42147" and I think that KM stands for Kossman, Markus. Also he loves to design construction vehicles and the B model is an excavator, so that's another reason as to why I believe that he was the designer -
