When you said, that you would like to build 6 wheel moonrover, I expected anything but this is far beyond my expectations. This is really moonstruck (I hope this nice word really means what my dictionary states - I like how it combines moon and truck and the crazyness of this huge model). You got my vote for this creation and your "out of the box" thinking. As I know the LDD a bit, I can imagine what a work was that.

I have this car as a "diecast" metal model, but this version is awesome. And not only a display model, but fully functional. Great work.

I am not sure you would manage with those plates to post the rendered pictures till the end of the world.

This is a really great entry. You got my vote. Now I see, what does it means to design a set with exclusive parts. You move it to a completely different level and give an inspiration.

Really does not look very good. So second attempt: use clear LGEO pieces, but use smaller parts. LDD2POVRay converted model took ages with 8x8 plate, but only a fraction of that when I used 64 1x1 plates. So try many smaller parts (16 1x1 plates) instead of each of those 4x4 plates. This speed improvement is related to bounding boxes POV-Ray uses.

42006 Available from 14 Dec?

You made me laugh. The association between "claw" and these aliens from Toy story is so strong, that even my wife laughed when I showed her your post. I like how you know how to hit the nail on the head. -
Is it possible, that 9 is not a target group TLG focuses on with technic? My son is 8, he can build studless models using instructions without problems (even flagships), but is not creating his own studless models. He builds studded ones. But I think, that if studless was that simple that 9 year old could build with it easily, what would be the challenge for those 16+ builders? May be TLG just found out, that many MOCers are 15+ and wanted a building system that is attractive and challenging mainly for that group.

[Software] LDD2PovRay
hrontos replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Converter ignores this attribute, that's why camera could not be found in the MAC file, but LDD itself knows the LXF format better than me and does not have this problem. I am just curious what is the source of this useless difference. Why the same application behaves differently in such small and definitely not platform specific detail. -
[Software] LDD2PovRay

Thank you. There is a slight difference in camera declaration in the MAC file (I am not counting many differences in bricks declarations). On MAC the main camera has ID 1. <Camera refID="1" fieldOfView="80" distance="54.928630828857421875" transformation="0.654235780239105224609375,0,-0.756290853023529052734375,-0.42869150638580322265625,0.823831856250762939453125,-0.3708432018756866455078125,0.62305653095245361328125,0.5668342113494873046875,0.538980305194854736328125,34.54363250732421875,33.94400787353515625,27.20844268798828125"/> On Windows, it has ID 0. <Camera refID="0" fieldOfView="80" distance="59.928615570068359" transformation="0.60770773887634277,0,-0.79416084289550781,-0.50713777542114258,0.76955282688140869,-0.38807198405265808,0.6111486554145813,0.63858318328857422,0.46766319870948792,36.945289611816406,41.077983856201172,25.629405975341797"/> Converter looks for 0, so that's why it could not find it in the MAC file. But the correct ID of the camera is stored in <Bricks cameraRef="0">. On Windows there is 0, on MAC there is 1. So I will read it from there in next release, instead of hardcoded 0 or 1 to avoid this error. -
[Software] LDD2PovRay
hrontos replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Could you, please, share the "before" and "after" file? I never had this problem with LDD4 file. And last year, when the development started, there was no 4.2.5, I had only 4.1.7 and some lower versions. -
[Software] LDD2PovRay
hrontos replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Converter takes it only from the LXF, but older versions of the LXF format had a different structure and camera position was stored differently, so making small change and resave of the file in the LDD4 should solve it. -

Thank you, it's completely ok with me. I personally do not use Flickr, so I am glad that you created common public gallery for the rendered images. The logo/icon image is the first model I rendered with maximum details, because I wanted to compare the result to the picture I saw here, Later on, after the release of the LDD2POVRay, I was told, that this is a standard model shipped with LDRAW. I hope, I did not do any harm, when I kept the very first rendered image as an icon. -

Of course, building by instructions prepared by more experienced builder is a very good way of learning how to build complex models. Especially younger builders can learn much faster this way. It saves a lot of time and since time is money, small portion of the savings should go to the original MOCer. I agree also that MOCer learns something and that's why he makes a MOC. Spending a month by studying materials for his MOC is a good time for him and he learns. That's why many people do it and share the pictures, videos and credit in the community is their satisfaction. But that second month needed for preparation of a quality building instructions is just a lost of time for him in a favour of the community. Hat off to those guys, who do it completely for free. That's a real community spirit. For me it is ok, when MOCer asks some money for the preparation of the instructions. Amounts are similar to price of some movie DVD, but the fun time is much more than just 2 hours watching. MOCer just should not forget about those people, that made the good software, that allows you to spent only a month with the preparation of the instructions. And he also should not forget, that not only LEGO, LEGO logo and others fall into some kind of play fair policy. Also Ferrari, LandRover, Buggatti, JCB, Komatsu, CAT and many others are trademarks and should not be used without any credits/permission. LEGO does not permit unwanted asociation with LEGO and these companies probably also do not. -

Talking about IP and licence and similar stuff. Did you take into account, that all current software (LDRAW, LPub, LDD, ...) permits only non-commercial use? You actually cannot sell instructions without violating EULAs of those applications. The only instructions that can be sold are photo-based, not created by software. It is widely tolerated, that instructions made using LDRAW are sold, but I expect that it is only to a certain level and starting making money this way may disapoint those many volunteers working on LDRAW parts for free. -
In case of "water", the transparent parts could be possible defined the same way as non-transparent. Reason for slowness is the "merge" operation used for transparent parts instead of "union" which is used for non-transparent parts. "Merge" removes internal "walls" from an object that is constructed by combining other objects using constructive solid geometry. This makes it look like made from one piece of transparent material since internal walls are not visible. But for water, I would say, it is not that bad to get some extra "sparkling waves" there due to those walls. So my suggestion is to cheat and use transparent material, but non-transparent geometry. I think, LGEO has each brick defined twice - once as transparent and once as non-transparent, so use the non-transparent. I wonder how much difference in speed and quality it will make.

Another case of plagiarism?
hrontos replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It is definitely not a typical plagiarism. Dimensions are again different, Sariel's model is 2 studs wider. This is very similar to the situation with the Sheepo's and JaapTechnic's LandRover. The same real machine results in very similar models. Taking into account the building time (only 15 hours for both models), the guy is either quite talented or was at least inspired by Sariel's techniques on some details. -

hrontos replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It is not necessarily only about original creator and some loss. This guy stated there that the building time was 15 hours. I am pretty sure Sariel and other contestants needed much more efforts for their original creations. To copy somebody's other creation and put it into contest is an unfair advantage comparing to other contestants. -

According to the website, he did not get any price as organizers/other participants notified that it is a copy of your creation. https://www.facebook...&type=3 The guy that built it is 16 years old, so he probably does not have that respect to other creators "built up" yet. He participated also with a truck, I don't know if at least that one is an original. EDIT: forgot "not" in "... he did not get any price..." -
Nice smooth movement. More down than up can be caused by the play of the gears in the combination with the gravity or it is a slightly not precise alignment of the gears. When tail is straight, each gear has to be in the topmost or bottommost position. It's hard to judge from the video. When you will make it a real doplhin with this movement, people will be so impressed they will hardly notice that slight difference. If it is caused by design of the solution, make it go more up than down, since gravity will compensate it on a real model.

@DLuders: To overcome the limitations of the poll system of the forum, would it be possible to have only 19 entries in each group and 20th entry would have text "none from this group"? So that anybody can select only his real choices without being forced to select one valid entry from each group.

I do not expect 24 tiny technic models. I would expect 24 submodels of a larger model. Like in one window could be one seat or steering assembly or front left axle or V2 engine etc. Complete model can be of course something completely different, not necessarily a car or machine. It can be something like Christmas merry-go-round with figures powered by a pullback motor - just like the real decoration.

TLG will remove it from the gallery after they find your post here or you will write a comment directly to the challenge gallery. I wonder how old is that armin1980. If he is really born in 1980, he should already know what is plagiarism.

Yes, taking the rules word by word, the very first sentence of the rules (in the Create, not the Win section) says: Create a new body design for the LEGO Technic 4x4 Crawler that fits the existing chassis and wheels! So the final model will not have tracks and authors will have to remove the tracks to turn their body designs into valid entries.
