  1. May be this has some structural limitations. If you look at a real minifig leg and how it is attached, there is high probability that stud would not fit into that short version. Or it would not be sturdy enough. I am also not sure about movement, such short legs would be quite stiff to move. But it would be nice to have such cute little moveable legs.
  2. This insufficient power can be a problem for all purpose applications, but for situations when you need a lighter battery box it can be quite usefull.
  3. Really awesome machine. Similar legged excavators I have seen for cleaning rivers (two wheels and two legs). I like the combination of pneumatics and LAs. Really good. Using LAs only it would be much more complex. I wonder if you plan to create version nr. 2 to solve the issues that bother you.
  4. AAA have something like 650-1200mAh, AA can have easily 2700mAh. This means not only that they last twice as long but it also means, that peak current is higher. From this point of view, even best non-rechargeable 9V is not better than AAAs. But two non-rechargeable 9V can be interesting (because the have lower weight), if they really have 1200mAh each.
  5. In the same table it can be seen that rechargeable version is far beyond that and is again only 7.2V since it consists of 6 1.25 V cells just like AA box.
  6. Nice MOD. I have some worries that the capacity and also maximum current provided by 9V rechargeables is smaller that the one provided by AA. Did you made also some test to check if you can get enough current from those 9V batteries? I have never seen a device (toy) with a motor powered by this type of 9V battery. They are usually used in remote controlers or other types of devices which are not so "hungry". Motor needs higher current rate and therefore use packs of AA, C or D size batteries.
  7. There is no problem in that text. But text "Important dates to remember" contains info that voting will take place between 9th and 22nd January and result will be anounced on 22nd February. I wonder why voting will start one month later after announcing the shortlist. Or why the winner will be announced one month after closing the voting. May be they want to justify the entries before the voting begins.
  8. There seems to be some kind of error in the dates. I noticed it also on the official website. In one statement it is written that voting opens in January, in other in February. I also wonder, if TLG will somehow justify the entries for the top 10. It would be good to clearly state which features of the proposed designs definitely will not be included in the final product. Like if they do not want to add more motors or use some colors etc. @DLuders: Thank you for investing your time again and preparing the short list.
  9. So you rendered it with a maximum level of details? I tried it with only basic LDD geometry.
  10. Yes, that's the main reason why even the simpliest coaxial models have blades with triangular shape and they are wider in the center and narrower on the edge. To get equal and effective lift power through the whole length of the blades. On real helicopter this is accompanied by making them thicker and having different shape in the center than at the end. And of course, it is also a structural issue - they cannot be thick and heavy on the ends. But these LEGO propeler blades have opposite construction, so they will not be that effective.
  11. May be a tandem rotor solution will work. If thinking positive and a buggy motor is able to lift itself and few extra grams, two buggy motors in a tandem configuration will be able to lift themselves and extra grams needed to build the structure. Looking forward to see any results. Positive or negative.
  12. As we were building the model, I had the same concerns about the size of the rotor. It seemed to be to high and bulky, but after adding the "engines" it does not look so bad or too much out of proportions.
  13. 9396 main blades do not have ideal shape, or the have to be mounted in much more complex rotor to get good angle. However I am also not sure about those propeler blades. If you take a look at the helicopter models, many of them have blades wider at the center and narrow at the outer edge to make sure they do not need too much torque. Or to be more precise - their air resistence decreases as the diameter increases. This guarantees effective usage of motor torque. The propeler blades may require too much torque without producing effective air flow in the centre.
  14. This model is really impressive. We have just finished it with my son (it tooks us a bit longer than Sariel's 2.5 hours). I was prepared that it will be a big model and I have to say, I am really not disapointed. It's big and very nice model with good proportions. May be it is not marked as a flagship, but with from technic point of view, with all those functions operated from just one power source through gear box it has all attributes of a flagship. I will just take the oportunity and mirror landing gear and cargo ramp linkages so that main rotor and landing gear function can be operated both at the same time. To get more realistic take off.
  15. You need POV-Ray 3.7, RC3, RC5 or RC6, converter must be running. Make sure you have the "Create INI file" checked on the last tab. Click convert and then Yes, to start the POV-Ray and start the rendering. This is the simpliest way to make first rendering. If you will not succeed, please, post the data from the messages tab from the POV-Ray.
  16. Yes, you can. No special separator is necessary, space as separator is good enough.
  17. Merry Christmas to all of you! And for the children in you, many studed and studless presents.
  18. Is it possible that you swapped the pictures? First one looks like rendered using standard transparent pieces (with geometry for trans. bricks), the second looks like rendered using non-transparent pieces (with geometry for opaque bricks) with assigned transparent color. Looking forward to see the version with transparent water.
  19. Is there some complex transparent area there? It is possible, that it will take longer, than you might expected. When it will not move one, stop it, add Continue_Trace=On to the ini file you used for the render or +C switch to command line text field in POV-Ray. Rendering will continue. I recommend to backup the .pov-state file created for this pov file, just for the case it will not continue (if you do not specify the continue switch/option properly).
  20. Fantastic performance in the snow. Such heavy machine with so much speed and power. I like how easily and fast it drives through the snow. Must be fun to drive. Very nice construction.
  21. If you want to go for that deal, simply replace pictures in your original entry. From technical point of view it is easier than to negotiate and ask them to keep your existing votes. BTW, you can submit copies of your own entries. As long as there are at least minor changes. I have seen some entries which differ only by color.
  22. They probably do not write the rejection messages, they only select rejection reason from some list, so the message is very formal, without valuable information. And this last one is very ridiculous, since my creations very copied several times by different users and they accepted them. And it is also not a design protection since the Land Rover is much more obvious copy of particular real car and entry is there. I am curious what is the problem.
  23. Looks really good. I like the front and rear views. Do not submit pictures of original cars, only your creation to avoid rejection due to copyright. Or make just basic submission so that you can gather votes and "fine" tune the pictures later.
  24. Welcome to the forum. BIs are saved automatically with your model and are regenerated only when you change your model. This means, that once you have them generated, save your model and do not modify it. LDD will display saved instructions immediately without such long delay.
