I see. I thought it was the new gray, that's why I was puzzled. I share your sentiment towards error-free color recognition. Also, nice mods, especially the maersk, and also, nice and tidy folder structure. Reminds me of my uni days. PS: 4512 was the first addition to my train collection after the dark ages early 2020, as I thought it looks appealing. At that point I was still reasonable in terms of what I'd spend on lego train stuff. (and everything would still fit in 1 Ikea box)
-
Uhm... Which one? 4512? That's a riddle for me. 9v cargo in gray with green accents... The crocodile! Let's not forget that just recently (in lego timeframes) we got something we always wished for, another creator expert train. If you expect to see a clear connection to whether it originated from the apparent train popularity on ideas, you'll know yourself this is impossible to prove. Couldn't agree more, all the presumed train fans complaining about those gaps and derailing (which never occurred on my 9v tracks btw) really made me wonder if that's what people think is the right approach to show lego that we want more trains? It's more or less as good as it gets in the lego universe and I hope we all have 1-2 crocs at home to "do our part". Complaining about 10277 is the wrong way IMO (let's save the complaining for the 4 wide thingy in case we don't get anything better ;-) ). I'm happy with it and know it might be a while until we get something comparably good. I mean look at the current lego city sets, if trains go in the same direction I am not optimistic we'll get train set(s) I'll be equally happy with (even though I do like 60197). @McWaffel to answer your question - I'm not that much into steamers, however would be excited about it for sure, but I'd like to see another creator expert / 18+ cargo train, since I never got my hands on the maersk. More importantly - I need carriages or wagons with it! That's the only thing that bugs me about the crocodile. Give me a 3-in-1 not too simple carriage and I'll buy 5-10. I'm gonna disagree whole heartedly on that one. Its just the smartest and most convenient way to run trains. Unless you give me an objective argument contra outlet/9v, there are none for me (maybe not being able to run two trains on one loop, but that's majorly impacted by the following). The fact that it's 2022 doesn't make it more acceptable for me that I'd need 18 f*n batteries to run TWO trains with remotes. How's that better? 9v is peace of mind. Someone else mentioned that Trains have a hard time being accepted because they need so much space (might have been a different thread) - I just wanted to add that modular buildings and whatnot are continuously taking up my shelfspace and can't be disassembled easily. My trains are neatly packed away in 6 Ikea boxes (2 each for trains, tracks, stations/sheds) and only used when needed. In conclusion, but that's just my personal opinion, trains offer - by far - the most play value while needing the least space. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk. Best

I restored some 9V track and motors with guitar care products
Sunil766 replied to McWaffel's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Great results and thanks for sharing. I had also posted the results of my eraser-soapy water-shower procedure in the thread below: -
My first train, 4565, was definitely the main set in comparison to 4559 (being a passenger train even though weirdly labeled as cargo train) and much more fun to play with... Still one of my favorites to be honest, at least the locomotive!
-
Honestly. Why would lego do this. What a disappointment Is there still a chance this goes through as a GWP for a serious train set? I just hang on to them putting effort into designing new wheelsets (whether they're better than previous ones is a different topic) which must be good for something...

Another station heading for 10,000 on ideas
Sunil766 replied to Tube Map Central's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I supported this as soon as I saw your thread and am very happy it made the 10k. Looks beautiful, puts train sets on the radar and is less over the top than the stud gate. As much as I love trains and have thrown my money at sets with questionable prices (santa fe, 2xHE, metroliner) I wouldn't wanna casually get out that massive station. Have also supported the big boy, given it has chances to reach the review. In terms of chances I don't think either one would make it. Good to showcase the interest in trains but even I don't think that it fits the ideas theme, as its something widely known and produced by lego in the past. Then again they also produced those (in my pov) lousy apartment sets... ;-) -
Don't have Instagram so can't check out pictures (also wouldn't want to) but from what you're saying it sounds more (or less?) than underwhelming. An unusable train would be worse than no train at all - it just feels like a wasted opportunity then. Agree that set number looks like a gwp or similar (which would underline my point above). But let's see.

Did they use 9v style rails there? Conspiracy theory incoming...
-
They way I think about it is the more weight applied on the car, the more wheel control is given back, compressing the rug that would otherwise lift the wheels up... I moved to Switzerland from DE, yes I saw your MOC, really professional and impressive. Seeing it and reading your posts I connected the dots that you must be from switzerland as well and thought about asking where you live to potentially see that lego project in person (if not too weird). However you seem to be a cosmopolitan as well ;-)

Amazing, I wanted to build something similar (just because I think it's easier to have the rag driven over all rails than to manually scrub them) but thought it would be too difficult. Now that I think about it, a flatbed car from e.g. 4559 with a few coins to make it heavier and tension the rag would probably suffice! Then only the rail joints remain as tough-to-bulk-clean... If I had a permanent layout I'd consider building a dust-brush car with a PU-powered brush from the train wash 4553 to get debris off the rails and away from the 9v engines. Could be a nice endeavor into the technic world I have never stepped a foot in. Impressive city I must say, pleasure to watch!

Fx Bricks (Michael Gale) announces Fx Track system
Sunil766 replied to HoMa's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Good morning, thanks all for your replies and especially @michaelgale for the excellent explanation and demonstration of how much thought you put into those products. The way I described it may have sounded bigger of an issue than it is for me, it was rather an observation than a limitation in any way. Still can't wait for my r88 to arrive and for any further products to be released (thinking about motors/pick-ups). Best -

To be fair, that were around 13 to 14V... Regular 9V easily goes full speed through the curve - great fun. For any higher voltage, will try again with R88, but 18V would require something around r150 + elevated outside curves I guess. @Black Knightthanks for your recommendation. that's what I suspected. I build too casually to do any ballasting, also I want to pack everything up neatly afterwards. -

Sunil766 replied to HoMa's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Even though my R88 track hasn't arrived yet, I built my first layout with the R72s I ordered to bridge the waiting time... as a casual lego trainhead I am happy to be able to build a layout every few months. I must say that is a great addition to the 9V line and is so much more fun than being limited to R40 curves. Quality is great, however they do seem quite tense and lift in the inside bend. If anyone has a solution (or workaround but I can't really put trackside buildings to an inner curve...) - sharing would be highly appreciated. The elevation on the inside bend can be seen in the following video I shot with snippets from saturday's action. (NB this is an unlisted video and I am just sharing as I'd equally like to see other casual 9V layouts) Edit: I did decide to put the vid public - share the love :-) (I initially wanted to avoid the impression of "promoting my channel" ... Then again this doesn't apply since I don't have anything to promote) -
As someone who left to the dark ages during the 9v era and came back last year for PU (completely oversleeping PF) I found myself in a similar situation. I then bought the horizon express with a set of PF and later 60197 with PU. I must say that PU felt much sleaker, smoother and fresher. Automation is easier. More space and less hassle with cables. But only 2 ports is a shame of course. However even in my living room I seemingly had connection issues with PF and it felt like the HE wasn't really doing what I wanted it to do. Generally with all the battery waste (also I never really know how long and if it goes the fastest it can go - intransparency over charging level and effort to change batteries really puts new off) I am happy that I have my old 9v stuff. Why does it sound like the train is almost derailing? Didn't have time to watch the video completely yet but good to hear a proper moin again - greetings from Oldenburg

German blog stonewars.de has listed the crocodile as one of the d2c sets that go EOL end of this year. That's pretty soon. They also mentioned that it was (/is) highly sought after. Also, on that note, a Swiss retailer is having discounts on lego sets - 10277 was available for CHF 99 (normally its CHF125 because... Switzerland) and all 50 units sold too quickly for me to even notice the offer. Well. Gives me hope it sold well enough for future 18+/creator expert trains to be released.

Thanks for raising my hopes, now I'm gonna check the mailbox every day. My jbs account still says "pre-order 01.08." though, which is still better than August 31 :-) Can't wait to run trains on r88 -
On that note... I am thinking about replacing a few of the stickers that started peeling off. Any experience with e.g. brick sticker shop?
-
Thanks both for your replies. shame. On the upside, shortly after my anger and disappointment filled post I realized that it's only one of the four wagons that's glued. The bogies and wheels are fine, however this is too much of a compromise for me, so I'll sell and either keep only three remaining wagons or buy another one. Then again, 3 cars look like a sufficiently decent train already and I could use that budget for the next aspiration: the maersk 10219 (or a second horizon express now that we will have wide radii curves soon, tough decision, happy to hear your thoughts ) Kind regards
-
Hi, rewarding myself for a few things justifying the price for used santa fe sets, I have recently acquired the locomotive and a few wagons. Now I had heard that as employee presents those gifted sets were glued together. Unfortunately I did not clarify this issue when buying and now I have those glued cars that I can't disassemble. Does anyone know if there's a way to dissolve that glue without damaging the parts? Thanks in advance.

Could you kindly specify what IPA and Methylated Spirits are? I have used decent quality cherry schnapps ("Kirschwasser") on large portions of my straight track with a wool cloth and it seemed to help, however it was in good condition already so hard to tell if it actually did something. I got told that stuff helps with electrical Conductivity. Thanks in advance.

I tried it myself over the weekend and while the metal did get cleaner, it's not shiny. However that might also be caused by extensive wear and tear. Looking at some of the parts, that train has been through a lot. Also, like my past experience, i ended up having elsterglanz debris all over the bogie will have to give it another wet wipe down, but find it hard to clean the area behind the wheel. Here are before, during and 2x after pictures.

Recently bought the metroliner with a bit of track and wanted to share with you the dirtiest 9v track that ever crossed my path. I Connected 6 straights, putting plates on the connection points, and then used an eraser to clean them. The metal gets quite hot from the friction, but properly clean. Afterwards, brushed them down in soapy warm water and then showered them off. Et voila, a set of like new 9v tracks :-) a few turned a bit yellow on top, I hope I didn't enable the corrosion booster with my watery procedure. Cheers!

I tried elsterglanz once on a test track and ended up messing up the whole plastic track somehow, without having cleaned the metal part. Will try it with just a bit on a piece of cloth and then let me motor spin, thanks. For tracks, I will keep using an eraser - about to make a post on the 9v track clearing thread.
