Heroica RPG - Quest#148: Once Upon a Time in Goetia
Palathadric replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
"Don't worry. We'll get along like chums. We've fought our fair share of dark spirits, haven't we?" I mean to plant a nudge in Hybros' ribs, but they are too low down to get anywhere close to my elbows, so I give him a little nudge with the toe of my boot instead. -

Hybros words make me think back on the Undead Jester that had thwarted our mission with my help not too long ago. I think of how Namyrra must have relived whatever pain she felt from her first encounter, even moreso to find that she had failed the quest. "Ouch!" is all I can utter. -

"Well, I suppose you are the authority on the matter, being that you, no doubt, have such intimate relations with them." -

I updated my stats on the page under the assumption that Althior would go through with the Nostrum deal with Pretzel. With that in mind: Pretzel should be at 812 gold; +5 HP; -Raw Meat; Cloak of the Grand Vizier at SP:6. I squirm uncomfortably. "I do swear that my mind is in a good state of health presently and I will certainly pray it stays that way. Again, I apologize for how that quest turned out." I give a little snarl. "You weren't there. Mind your own business, demon." Turning to Byblos, I hand him some useful items: Scroll of Minimizing (Has 1/2 chance of causing the minimized-effect on the target; costs 10 ether.) Scroll of Arc Sleep Scroll of Elemental Aura (Enables the user to cause the target's attacks deal only elemental damage corresponding to a gem available to the user for the duration of one battle. Each casting has a 50/50 chance of success and costs 5 ether) Lens of Speed Reading (allows a scroll to be read in addition to a normal action; accessory, suitable for scroll users) "Take good care of these, Byblos. They're worth far more than their weight in gold." I de-equip the Darksteel Armour and Armour of the Dark Arts and Equip the Cloak of the Grand Vizier in their place. I offer the other end of the Soul Link Chain to Atramor. "Here, try equipping this. You will feel even more defensibly capable than you do now. I could equip that Amulet for you." -
I hold up the Nostrums. That'll be 149 gold. I take the time to use my newly acquired polishes on the Cloak of the Grand Vizier and eat my Raw Meat while I do so.

I purchase 5 Bright Polishes for 1250 Gold. Do I do this here?

I buy 5 Nostrums for 5*35*.75=132 Gold

Yes, he would have liked to meet you so much, but he cannot move either. He loved the song though, and I'm sure he'd love to continue hearing your voice. He gave us this scent for you." -

"Surely we could carry you or something. There must be a way. In any case, we removed the Salamander that lay between you and her, so she should be able to smell your scent more." -
"Well, well, Eric, you like you have been doing well for yourself. I see that that fine blade has passed into your hands. Did Sarge give it to you or did it pass through other hands before reaching yours? Did you know that I carried it for a number of quests myself. I have since left off being a Paladin though, preferring trade. Anyway, I bore you no doubt. I could upgrade Conspirator to that degree for 332 gold. That's almost a 60 gold discount."

"Yes, Timothy here has the songbook. There is one of your kind, a fellow golem, who sings it. She gave it to us. She would so much like to meat you, but unfortunately cannot move from her spot. Is there some way that we could bring you to where she is? Can you move?" -

"Timothy, join me." Unfazed by my never having sung in public before, I launch into the Song of the Fiery Flamenco. -
Yes, if only Dyric hadn't loitered in 149.

"Come, Timothy, there's nothing more we can do here. there is little that can be done for people who insist on killing others when being friendly can work everything out just as well. Let's go and visit the Athanor I quit the battle and go to the Athanor which I don't think we've been to before. If we have, we go back to the Salt Golem. -

"The salamander was hindering the completion of our mission. Our mission is to make sure this machine is working properly so that these mages and others like them can continue to do their work. And are you really saying that these men are as good as animals to you? These men, as I mentioned before, are not hindering the completion of our mission. Right now, only the four of you who insist on fighting are." -

"They just offered to go. You are the only one keeping them here." "I don't know what you mean by talking about the colors, but I understand that you're saying that nobody is perfect. I suppose you're right. There are no clearly defined rules of punishment for crimes like this, but death is certainly not one of them. Right now, you are certainly the darker shade of grey than they are." -
Yeah, it actually works fine in Firefox for me. It's just Chrome where it's screwy. Weird!

Is talking still a free, timeless action?

I look at Ezeran, utterly aghast. "Ezeran, I can't believe it. I...I thought you were a hero. How can you attack these men who have done nothing to you. Is it just that you support the Guild of Invision and don't care what happens to anyone else. When the Triffid attacked the mages, you didn't complain when the Guild didn't give us any money for returning the Triffid, even though we were contracted to remove it by the mages. This is the exact same situation. We are not contracted to kill these men or bring them to the Guild, so we have to let them go and be thankful for any present that they give us. Money cannot and should not decide whether they live or die. And who's to say what will happen if we fight them. We have to let them go, or will you fight on despite knowing that yo are in the wrong by attacking them?" -
It opened for me at first, but then it started showing the message a couple seconds later.
