21309 NASA Apollo Saturn V (LEGO Ideas)
TechnicTobi replied to Blondie-Wan's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Fantastic model! Will definetly buy it. Has anybody noticed that the command module on the rocket is white, whereas it is grey, when it is docked to the lander? So these are two different parts, am I right? -
Hihi, just didn't get it. You know in German mining vocabulary a lot of words are used in an uncommon way or are strange. So there was the possibility that this unit exists...

Hello Blakbird, thank you for this outstanding review! I enjoyed very much reading it. As I am from Germany, I was surprised to read the word scheisse-tonne. Are you sure that that is a common unit? Do you have a source for it? I am asking, because scheisse means shit or pooh... (hopefully I will not be banned because I wrote these words here...)

Your Wall.E is a real cuty! In my opinion you captured the looks quiet well and the functionality is great. Especially I like how you have used the motors as an integral part of the head. Good idea! And the presentation with your second Wall.E, aren't they sweet?!

Thank you for this interesting test, but I am not really convinced that the new tires are most suitable for mud and sand because the differences between the different tires are not so big. The reached distances can be more or less a random outcome. Did you perform any repetitions? But anyway, it will be interesting to see those tires in action!

42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
TechnicTobi replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I totally agree with you, Nerds! I made the same experiences. In most times, clutch gears are only some kind of reassurance that gears and axles will not be destroyed, often with a much too high safety factor. I never made bad experiences in changing clutch gears to normal gears in standard sets... -
First of all I have to thank you for this great review, Sariel. Despite its flaws, I think that this is a really great set. The look of the bucket wheel excevator is very good for me, as it catches the spirit of heavy mining equipment or industrial plants very well. I think there are no bucket wheel excavators in service, which can be rated as good looking. Form follows function. The speed of the BWE is realistic for me (travelling, slewing), so it is good as it is. In terms of realism, TLG did a good job, in terms of playability, Sariel is right, of course. It is a pity, that the main functions of the set (digging and conveyers) are more or less sluggish. I expected that from the first time I saw the the video of the Nuremberg toy fair, but I hoped that TLG would fix that until the release of the set. And it was quite clear that one XL-motor will struggle keeping al the functions going (remember 42009, which is powered by only one L-motor). But, and this is a really big advantage of this set for me, it will be great for modding. Looking at the base, there is a lot of space for additonal motors for driving and steering and the same is true for the upper structure. I think this set can be made fully RC very easy. And hopefully, playability will increase and serious digging will be possible then (By the way: any ideas what to use for digging? Maybe corn or beans will work. 10 kg + will just be adequate... ). Another advantage for me is the sheer number of (very usefull) parts you get, what will help me to create a lot of MOCs I just can´t realise at the moment, because of missing liftarms and so on (e.g. crawler cranes). All in all, this set is a must buy for me.

Cool looks and seems to have good performance! Thanks for sharing! -
Hi, I built a diff like this a while ago. I didn't need it to transfer high torque but to reach high speed. I want to build a fast big race truck and as I do not own rc buggy motors I had to try it with PF-motors. I connected two PF-XL motors to the "outputs" of the diff and used the diffs' input (turntable) as "output" and used a 12 tooth gear with double bevel to drive the axis of the truck. It worked quite well and offered a remarkable speed... Greetings Tobi
