LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Surprised we have a list for summer this early. It seems like quite a big wave as well, even accounting for the UCS/MBS set and advent calendar. Excited to see what they turn out to be! -

Hey, at least it's cheaper to get the gunship's second pilot now! I'm pleasantly surprised by what we've seen of the 1HY wave so far, mainly by the fact that the cheapest sets in the wave look so good (minus the microfighter, admittedly). I'll definitely be picking up the accessory packs and the battle pack. I think so, it looks like a neat print. -

I hope this does mean at least one AotC set in the summer. Given the broad range of eras covered by the last couple of summer waves I'd be surprised if we got an AT-TE and a gunship, but I'd be happy with either. The last system gunship did come with a commander IIRC... -

Both packs look very nice! The rebel one makes a nice complement to the battle pack, and again we get some more varied rebel troops. Personally I would have preferred a captain or sergeant in the clone pack, but I can see the logic behind putting the commander in the cheapest SW set having been in one of the most expensive. No Rex or Cody but it's still a good pack IMO. How are these distributed? I understand they'll be in LEGO brand stores, will they also be available on S@H? -
There's a place for both IMO. While I would say I collect LEGO sets I'm not a particularly committed collector, so I tend to buy sets and/or factions that have interesting designs or that I simply enjoy from the movies. Most of the time that's enough to scratch my LEGO itch. That said, creating a MOC is one of the most satisfying things to do as a LEGO enthusiast. One of the things I love about Star Wars is the depth of lore that every small thing has, so when I can I like to create obscure stuff that would never make it as an official set. It also allows me to have a consistent collection - what few MOCs I have are all to the same scale, and all have the same design 'language' since they're all by the same designer (me!). I'm a design engineer by trade so I quite enjoy the whole process, but I am also quite lazy, which is why I don't have many MOCs... Something I've never done, though, is buy another designer's MOC, and I mean this with no disrespect to other designers! The main barrier here is price, although I understand the reasons behind the premium. I love appreciating other people's designs, but a lot of the time if the TLG version of a set is not up to my standards, I'll have a crack at designing it myself instead of buying a MOC.

Even as microfighters go, this is not what you'd call a looker... Not a lot to get excited about, unless you somehow missed out on Mando thus far. He does come with a jetpack so I guess that's something? -

I'd like to think Thrawn would be a likely candidate, assuming he doesn't show up in future content. Interesting that there are two more sets to come in May... I think it's safe to assume one could be the trash compactor (possibly a May the Fourth release?), but curious to see what the other will be. This staggered release schedule is odd though. -

Are they? Oh no, the figure choice will probably make this one even worse in that regard I can see how some people would see this as TLG megabloking it up again ("they gave us the wrong Rex and Cody etc"), but I'm quite excited by these two. Neither have been seen for well over a decade in LEGO form, and I think P1 Cody only ever appeared in one set (I remember him being in the TCW Gunship, correct me if I'm wrong). Getting an update on these two in one fell swoop would be nice. IMO it also bodes well for future potential accessory packs. If LEGO are willing to put figures that, while popular, last appeared on screens a fair while ago, there's every chance we could see some more niche named characters return. Someone already suggested Fallen Order, Rebels or Rogue One could be two others. I won't get my hopes up but I think it's promising. -

This. I made a MOC of one last year and thought about buying a set to get some of the parts (namely cockpit and the ailerons), but I thought they were a bit pricey at around 35EUR. The other day I saw one for sale on Tori (which is normally a good bet for some good deals ok second-hand sets) that the seller had put up for 120EUR. I know some collectors can go a bit mad, but I can't help but think whoever is paying 5 or 6 times its original price for a set that, in all honesty, is not that special, is a bit of a mug. -

The fact that Captain Rex costs $130 is down to collectors though, not to the market demand for toys. The same can be said for other minifigures as well, including Finch Dallow, Thrawn, Zeb, etc. I'm not sure many kids are having 100+ bucks forked out for them on a single minifigure. There is a valid case for more prequel sets IMO, given the dearth over the past six-ish years in favour of newer material, but given how collector-focussed the aftermarket is I'm not sure it's the best way to gauge demand. -

I would also expect a helmet. It did seem odd that we had a list of three but only two were to get made when the past two waves had three each, so this would clear that up. Luke's is still the only one I'm at all excited about. -

The AT-AT I think is a LEGO exclusive (although I have seen the UCS Falcon and ISD at John Lewis in the UK before, so who knows), but nothing to indicate the other two won't be available elsewhere. -

I know it was included in the AT-AT as well, but I will say that this speeder bike looks fantastic. It looks similar to a few MOCs I've seen (including mine!), but presumably without the fragility that some of them have (including mine...). -

The helmet and probe droid boxes are the ones that immediately spring to mind, although I imagine this would be slightly smaller than those. -

And so it begins... AT-ST looks nice enough, I prefer the ROTJ version to the chicken walker look so I'll stick with what I have already. I do like the smaller probe droid though, it looks much more faithful to the movies - I'll have to make some of my own. The battle pack seems decent, I'll probably pick one up to get some more new snowtroopers (and the Hoth scout trooper is a neat inclusion). The higher price is a shame given the piece count, but I think effectively paying 5EUR a figure (especially one that's only out in expensive sets currently) is OK. Also, is that base on the e-web a new piece? I honestly didn't notice it the first time. Seems like a very minor tweak. -
Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
TeddytheSpoon replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
In all honesty, I'm not sure either of Andor or Kenobi will get any sets. LEGO hasn't exactly been keen to make sets for series before they're proven to be popular, let alone for ones that only last one season. As much as people love Obi-Wan (myself included), I don't think he as a character has as much pull as Boba Fett or Ahsoka, so the series will have to be properly good to generate enough hype to warrant a set. The same goes for Andor. The other thing is the amount of sets released in a normal wave... With the UCS sets, helmets and the 'adult display' system sets, we only seem to be getting 9 or 10 system scale playsets in a calendar year. Unless that allocation goes up I think TLG will focus on the franchises with a bigger guaranteed pull rather than taking a chance on the more minor series, for want of a better word. -

I imagine X-wings and TIEs beat it for screen time as well, and Y-wings might be close (I assume you're talking about ANH only). That said I'm excited to see how it looks; the playscale models don't really get across how beat up it is, and since it's an open cockpit there's a chance for some really great detailing there. It's basically the first thing analogous to a car that we see in Star Wars, so in that sense it does have some extra iconicity. -

Agreed, the leg joints are impressively built judging by the reviews. I do find it rather amusing that they tell you how *not* to pose the AT-AT in the instructions, though. -
Naboo could be a good option but you might be limited to N-1s and vulture droids. It did feature as level in BFII but I'm not sure how canonical that is (ie there was a battle there in the CW era), if at all. Kashyykk would also be a good option IMO (that definitely had some space battles above it), and maybe Ryloth as well. It depends if you count these as OT or OT-adjacent, but Scarif would be great (and my top choice personally) and potentially Lothal as well, although from memory it is kinda... Beige. As you said ST doesn't have much in terms of large-scale space battles apart from Starkiller base or Exegol, and I'm not really sure what Exegol looks like other than pretty dark. Crait could be cool since I think it saw a battle in the OT era as well. Hope that gives some food for thought!

[MOC] Republic Frigate / Consular-class Cruiser
TeddytheSpoon replied to starwarsfan66's topic in LEGO Star Wars
One of my favourite ships in the entirety of Star Wars! It looks phenomenal, I'm partial to the Radiant VII version personally and while I'm sure the dark red is more accurate I like the pop that the regular red one has. The only thing nagging me is the square hole on the front of the engine nacelles, but off the top of my head I can't think of a better solution... Yet!- 3 replies

I think the battle pack description is misleading. I'd be surprised if it is called that given the price and the contents, I think it's more in line with the Trexler Marauder set from this summer (three troops and a main character). I do wonder if they'll change Luke's figure at all, I assume they would give him a hood. -

Speaking of figures, a picture of the Hoth scout trooper (or whatever the correct name is) is out, and it's a really good quality one as well. I wasn't sure what to expect but it does look nice, it'll make a nice complement to the regular scout trooper. Hopefully this means more leaks are not far away... -

I understand minor gripes with the figures, but I do wonder if these gripes would exist at all had we not had the playscale AT-AT last year, since the selection is almost identical. In that sense I still can't see the logic behind releasing this so close to the smaller one, although I guess that will be EOL before too long? -

It seems like it, at least for the knee joints. I wonder if it'll apply to the hips (?) and ankle ones as well. Quite a nifty solution I think, although I'm not sure how often it'll get used. Well, for a great honking mass of light bley it looks decent enough. I was never going to get it but they seem to have done a good job, the interior almost looks like it was intended to be displayed open à la Incredible Cross-Sections as others have suggested, which is nice.
