  1. I'm consolidating my 3D printing topics in this one to keep track of it. Future releases will go into this one. If you have any ideas on parts that could be designed or simply have a problem that could be solved with custom part, let me know here, I might be interested in designing it.
  2. You make your topic with build log and you link to it in a single comment in the TC20 entries topic and that comment needs to adhere to the specific rules.
  3. I hope it gets enforced by the jury since for those who adhere by the rule it was harder to build from contemporary parts and also building remake with some crucial parts that were used in the original set like tires, rims, suspension pieces and some panels that were significant part of the original look, would be easier. I'm against extending the deadline. There are people that decided on smaller builds to fit within deadline when it comes to ordering parts and building time. If I knew beforehand there were two more weeks for it, I'd build the second set and decide on which to submit for the entry.
  4. Amazing. Blows my mind that this is like at least 95% studless. And the photos in the entry topic are really good. The comparison between original and new one kind of feels like original graphics and remastered graphics of a video game :)
  5. woah, nice idea - I should use it in some build :)
  6. I think your entry in the entry topic has too many photos. It is supposed to be 4 in total including the photo of the original or comparison to it.
  7. Looks really good in yellow but I don't like the renault colour scheme. New wheels feel a bit bigger than the original ones, but I assume it's closest thing that you could get. You should take the photo closer without wasting so much area of the photo on the background when you'll make final photos or just crop those.
  8. Yeah, I did so too and many others did as well. So it's an issue with how the contest was prepared IMO that it's stating things like this on top My point is that they are not contemporary, I'm not arguing they are not studless... The rules of the contest don't take it into account albeit it being stated in the theme of the contest and it makes it a bit muddy here. Those panels look great and the solution is really cool though, it's just that I'd wish it was fully made with currently available pieces as it feels like something that could be an actual contemporary set :)
  9. I don't like this approach to the windshield frame, but apart from this, the model looks really good. Why is the engine loose though so you had to use rubber band there? Is the crankshaft touching something so you decided to mount the whole engine loosely or is it intentional for the effect of engine moving?
  10. Here: Since it's stated: You should start with something showing the initial progress. First of all it's good to start with the info on original set/model and a photo of it and also a number of the set in the name would be good for this contest. Secondly some initial concept either IRL on in some Lego CAD is a good start.
  11. In the contest info right at the beginning: And in response to question about the word contemporary: Essentially the problem boils down to how the rules were drawn out in context of this statement at the beginning of the contest info.
  12. Really cool way to modernise this set. Especially that we can see few approaches to the same set. The only thing that I would nit-pick here is that suspensions feels a bit low in comparison to the original set.
  13. While the construction seems like a really good build, I don't like the effect of the liftarms on this model. The original set had thick lines because liftarms are thicker and there are spots were those are connected with plates making the lines thicker. I don't feel the same vibe from this model and I think some of the spots would be better with a bit more modernisations with panels closing the gaps. Additional critique here is that the original model has a bit more detailed interior, at least when it comes to the seats and we already have some cool ways to build quality seats at this scale. Once again - great model, but when it comes to being truthful to the original, I don't feel the same vibe from it for some reason.
  14. Looking good, but the question is about whether wheels, those half width oval liftarms/crane blocks and some suspension elements are contemporary as the theme of the contest suggests?
  15. The contest is about using contemporary elements (the one available right now in the current sets). That is why using old wheels/tires/panels may have an effect on the final jury vote
  16. Amazing little build - that's what this contest should be about - small and medium sized builds :) I hope some video is in the works.
  17. @efferman I'll spam once again in your topic as this is something that people are already asking about being made and sold and I don't really have time to do it: I made some wheel rims that are 3D printable: and then I made arms for perfect steering pivot on fixed or live axle: Files for printing and studio files for testing are here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4916659 Would be cool if you investigated this way of printing the wheels made in two pieces as well as the steering elements for perfect pivot. I think there may be interest in this unless the new 2 stud wide tire takes over if it's easy to get.
  18. Yeah, it'd be pretty hard to have angled wishbone inside the wheel rim while also steering unless it is also a weird shaped one like the steering rod here. This is something that is more likely to be used on a live axle or just a model without suspension like most of the truck sets with those tires.
  19. I printed the arms yesterday but it took me some time to make the video: Files for printing, including new version of the wheels: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4916659 There are also studio files with sockets setup for testing in studio.
  20. slimming down the outer ring is not really a problem, so once I'm confident that the technological stuff is figured out, I'll make the 2 stud wide rim as well. I've got the original rims like this and smaller tires for testing, but I'm not sure when I'll be able the get the new tires from the transporter. Anyway, here's my plan for the pivot: I still got to design the steering link/rod before I can print it and test it out though
  21. Thanks. And yes, I know that there are issues coming with putting the pivot inside the wheel. I'm going to tinker with it over the weekend - that's obviously going to be a set of custom parts though, but I'll try to make them somewhat Lego-like if possible.
  22. Thanks, that's also something that I kept in mind that I'm trying to make it fit well with Lego design language/same aesthetic. By the way, since I didn't cover it in the video - the 6 big holes are pin sockets so for example for double wheels you can connect them with pins if you want.
  23. I really don't like how Lego is making medium sized Technic rims, so I tried designing my own rim. STL files for printing: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4915002 (still not finalised design though)
  24. Looks really good now. Can't wait to see it in full colour. I think you should fill in the corner of the front spoiler from the wheel side - you've got the pin socket on that 90 degree axle-pin-axle connector. Maybe pin with "1L liftarm"/pin bushing would fit or something like a bulky light bulb piece (was it called a dome?) in yellow.
