10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Poco Lypso replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Sets have gotten bigger over the years, ninjago gardens, etc. Lego knows a huge chunk if castle fans are afols. That means both higher expectations and purchasing power. Besides they released the creator castle last year already...- 2,976 replies

Latest impact of other themes on historic themes

Agreed! Current inflation might make people spend less though. In the end lego will make a larger profit though as they no longer need to absorb rising costs even if they produce/sell less. Time will tell! -

it probably depends on when you started collecting and how aware you were at the time. I started in 2015 and was able to pick a few castle sets back then, thinking castle (and other historic themes) were recurring I didn't buy any of the older sets (like hobbit, lotr) because I didn't wanna pay extra. At that time I could have even gotten the medieval market village at a relatively decent price, lol. so yeah, civilin figs have been quite rare to me the last couple of years.- 2,976 replies

think promobricks mentioned the area behind the portcullis doesn't serve a particular purpose and you can park your horses there :)- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Poco Lypso replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
tbh, the price isnt that bad 3in1 castle has 1.4k pieces at 100eur anni castle has 4.2k pieces at 350eur, thats roughly the piece count of 3 creator castles. for 50 eur more you get about 10 more minifigs than you would get from 3 creator castles plus some animals. Plus the figs will be better than the merchant of the 3in1, lol. Imo its not a fantastic bargain but far from being a rip-off. Atm I am not sure if I am going to buy it right away tho and will decide based on opportunity. For one thing, I would like the forestmen gwp, but am NOT spending 150eur on something I don't need/want just for the sake of the gwp. If, however, the gwp will be still available or sees a return at the release of the anni castle then I will feel very tempted. If the castle releases with no gwp at all or something different then I just wait and see if I can get the set at a 20% discount from a retailer.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Poco Lypso replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I don't really know how to feel about this set. when speculations were out the castle could be the one from the trailer, I really hoped that would not be the case. Seemed a bit generic to me. Overall it reminds me more of a city wall rather than a castle. Assuming the drawings are correct, we have water mill in the middle of a wall section? Think the 3in1 castle did that better... there also seems to be a staircase leading up one of the towers, maybe the drawing is wrong, but shouldn't it be on the other side of the tower? Then you have a drawbridge, where does it lead to? a room an the 1st floor? seems more like a portcullis, but I would have expected the main entrance to lead to the castle courtyard- 2,976 replies

They probably want to give everyone the same chance, with current lockdowns in china I guess the stock will be limited.- 2,976 replies

LEGO Dungeons & Dragons - one step closer?
Poco Lypso replied to AmperZand's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Tbh, I think it doesn't really matter what kind of a license they choose, wot or d&d as long as the sets come with useful figs (and maybe pieces). Of course an in-house theme would be best but we live in lincensed times, xD. Licenses can be hit or miss, as they suffer from the curse of the protagonist, lol. The lone ranger (imo the worst figure of the whole theme) was in every set and unless you wanted to make an army if sheriffs... -
10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Poco Lypso replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Not necessarily. While farm animals are expected to be on a farm or in a medieval village, a castle doesn't necessarily need animals like cows, chicken etc. I bet there will be horses, maybe an owl or dog, but what other animals can they put in a castle, especially ones that we didn't have yet?- 2,976 replies

LEGO Dungeons & Dragons - one step closer?
Poco Lypso replied to AmperZand's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I am not too familiar with the D&D franchise, is it very popular these days? It also seems a bit too mature imo. Transformers in general started out as a toy and the show and movies are aimed at kids. Personally I would like to see lego do the witcher but I guess thats doubtful considering its content. -

better than nothing I guess, but honestly, we just had, still having, the black falcons. too similar to be interesting imo, the lack of lore doesn't help I would still get as many as you can. knights are rare, I missed the last cmf knight, the tournament one due to a lack of interest in lego at the time, regrets! Also, a faction can be in alluance with other knights or smaller factions, we aren't bound by any lore.- 2,976 replies

thats exactly what I am hoping. but it may also backfire on us in that lego will just leave the medieval niche to the competition.- 2,976 replies

10305 Lion Knights' Castle 90th anniversary set
Poco Lypso replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Lol! I didn't say they were only releasing shoes, maps etc, that would be preposterous, why would you even wanna assume that, xD? The context is castle vs. replicas or somesuch. If you just take the last 5 years, how many castle sets vs. real life replicas did we get? I am counting 2 castle sets. Look, just because I would never buy a lego globe or nes, or the new atari2600, lol, doesn't mean there isn't a market for it. There clearly is! And that market must be huge imo and judging by posts on fb people actually go crazy over them. Lots of those replicas are aimed at the adult market imo. I mean which kiddo would ask their parents to get them a lego map (might be wrong here, lol). The lego castle community might not be as large as we think it is, only lego knows the numbers and prolly makes decisions based on those numbers, wether its gonna be more profitable for them to create, let's say an advanced and sophisticated castle line, or have their designers work on a real life scale lego bowling ball for example. There clearly is a market for medieval sets. Legos competition has been releasing a modular village recently, these sets are nothing else than different versions of the blacksmith shop, but who cares, some people will buy it anyway. Same goes for all the other medieval sets you can get on the internet, people have sets produced in china and sell all over the world. The market is clearly there, the question is, how big is that market? The topic of a new lego castle theme has been discussed quite a lot in recent years. And it usually ends with kids these days aren't interested in castle, and adult fans wouldn't like a castle theme designed with kids in mind. Logically an 18+ castle theme could fill that void, but doesn't happen. And my assumption is, that market might be comparably small, compared with harry potter for example.- 2,976 replies

Poco Lypso replied to R0Sch's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Haha, the new big bang theme, lol. tbh, I believe castle fans are prolly a niche minority. lego prefers releasing legolized real life items such as shoes, consoles, globes, typewriters, maps... and I guess sales numbers will prove them right. we might also be misinterpreting things now and then. black falcons were very hard to get for a few months after release and some people said this would send a message to lego and maybe it did. but we don't how many falcons were actually sold and why they were so scare. maybe lego didn't anticipate them to sell 'well' and instead of 10000 just had 1000 ordered (numbers used for illustration purpose) and kept to that same amount with each batch and the total number of falcons sold is till way too small as to warrant a new castle theme.- 2,976 replies

Also the frightening knight torsos and legs as well as the lion shields were already sold out on the BAM service on day 02 - before they took it offline. Black falcons were also hard to get during the first months. I just hope lego doesn't interpret this as 'demand being saturated', lol.- 2,976 replies

personally I am not too big of a fan of moulded trees. they look too samey for me. they can be used for great effect tho, like the classic castles of takeshi https://www.google.com/search?q=takeshi+itou+classic+castle&client=ms-android-xiaomi-rev1&prmd=isvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwil-YGmqZ33AhUnpIsKHYKfAuAQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=393&bih=720&dpr=2.75 -
