  1. Thanks for the info! Unfortunately it's unlikely lego will ever touch any of the more 'mature' subjects like the crusades . Knights battling in the Holy Land would be such a marvelous theme!
  2. TBT - the only reason for me to buy this set would be interesting minifigs and it seems there arent any figs at all.
  3. Which set exactly is this? I couldnt find anything vidiyo-6castle related on legos website
  4. Technically the creator set is rumoured to contain a civilian that can be used as either merchant or thief.
  5. Either way there is a reason why religion and politics arent meant to be discussed in most boards on the internet. Lego is doing well not to be producing sets
  6. But is that book produced by lego?
  7. Castle with fantasy elements isnt based on real world history either yet it is accepted because its based on real world fiction (I guess). But you are right, any attempt to mix the two themes would either result in something artificial (not necessarily nexo knights level) or, if it tries to be historically acurate, something underwhelming and boring as the overlapping period wasnt the high time for neither period/theme.
  8. Yeah, nexo knights was absolute rubbish. And tbh, when i look at a lot of themes of recent years it might have something to do with management, the people who decide what kind of themes are being made. Designers cannot be held accountable, if they are told to design rubbish then they will. The old generation brought out the cool themes while the younger generation is overthinking it and nexo knights is a result of that. I can literally imagine them reading an article on how kids spend too much time with their smartphones and then they think we need more smartphone apps in our lego because thats where the kids are. Lol!
  9. Doesnt make any sense to me. So, one side will be firing cannonballs while the other will shoot arrows?
  10. Ok. Technically he did. He was born at the end of it. But his actions as pirate took place after. In any case, as @Alexandrina pointed out there was a small overlap. Imo that overlap period is way too niche to even consider lego could seriously make a theme here.
  11. Not really sure what u r trying to tell me. Barbarossa didnt live in medieval times
  12. Hmm... the only 'pirates' of medieval times I could think of are vikings
  13. Why do you think it could work be actually cool? For me these are themes which work best if left as they are.
  14. I think its generally hard to create a show that would suit both adults and kids, al though not impossible. Which lego tv shows have been enjoying?
  15. Hmm... I cant say that I am an expert on the subject matter. But since we are talking about a lego kids show, our viewers will be less critical of the historic context, won't they? The setting is not the main focus, its the heroes.
  16. Well :) Tbh I dont really see your point. Whats wrong with medieval AND friendship? Medieval is just the setting, you can pretty much do anything. Friendship is a broad term ofc - either way an episodic tv show needs recurring protagonists - and kids can relate to the concept of friendship. And lets not forget: the show/story would be aimed at kids.
  17. Oh Edit: dang - they even have a character called "dario da vinci" Lol
  18. Tough one! If its a story then its gonna be the same 3-6 characters every year in about every set, lol. Not a fan of that but it makes sense ofc. While opponents (design) can be hit or miss we would get 1 new faction each year, coupled with the same 3-6 protagonist characters. However, those factions could be like chima or ninjago opponents :( Lotr style fantasy could have way more success with the kids. Set designs would prolly consist of 1-2 dragons each year. Oh boy, castle seems doomed. My own idea of a story: A band of friends Each one belongs to a family (baker, miller, noble). So that we could get another mill village raid and civilians and other sets based on their "homes". One of those friends has a relative who is a da vinci style inventor - no, no mechas! His inventions help the friends to solve problems during the show and would be turned into sets each year. I would slowly develope the story and lore. Not going all in with like 4 factions at once - kids and adults need time and too much information is never good. Also, I wouldnt use total war as a setting. Kingdoms at war - thats a bit boring imo. I would rather make it mysterious - like in the 1st and 2nd season have a "cult" working to obtain a hidden artefact which they wanna use to awaken an ancient evil - like a dark overlord. Which they succeed at the end of season 1 and get defeated by the end if season 2. Just some thoughts!
  19. Brand dominance isnt lost over night, it's a slow process most of the time. The mere fact lego is taking action against clone brands shows they take the threat seriously. Their recent endeavor is more of a PR disaster though.
  20. I heard about those cases, too. I referred to a completely different scenario though.
  21. Indeed they have! Falling behind the pack prolly wont ever happen but market share is important especially for a big company such as lego.
  22. I knew you had access to some nifty knowledge :)
  23. Indeed! The major difference for me is the minifigs - there may be a few interestings sets here and there but they dont come with the black falcons for example:). I dont generally tend to buy sets for display purposes and will disassemble any set with time - so no selling point for me there. Also, community is a big thing, which I believe clone brands will struggle with.
  24. I wouldn't take it for granted! A couple of years ago I would have dismissed clone brands entirely. Poor man's bricks with bad quality, rip-off designs, low-price being the only incentive. Ofc I never bought any of these because why would I? I don't remember anyone talking positively about them either. Fast forward a couple of years and things have already changed dramatically. While I cant say from my own experience reliable sources confirm the quality has improved - so much that it can be considered to be on par with lego in many regards. As far as designs go - it appears you have western designers who have their sets produced in china and sell under their own label in Europe (for example). The sets themselves are aimed at adults and can be considered moc-level design - for a quarter/third of the lego price. Chinese companies also design their own sets which arent half-bad either. And like i said, reliable sources promote those sets to a huge audience online. That market will be growing! Granted many people are nostalgic and wont accept anything but lego - but kids arent born with nostalgia. Imo its just a matter of time until clone brands will produce their own original themes with cool tv shows and video/mobile games that kids will want and parents will be happy to buy - because it comes at half the lego price or even less.
