Tbh, I am checking the b&p site almost every day and while I would definitely like to purchase a few I am quite pleased they are sold out ALL THE TIME. Maybe this will give lego a hint on how popular a classic theme can be.
-
I'm quite impressed with the castle! Will buy at least one set and depending on parts value and a potential bargain price maybe a 2nd. The civilian minifig is more of a disappointment to me. So far I have avoided buying sets with yellow bricks (prefer tan colors) but to my surprise I like what I see.
-
But bricklink is part of the lego group now iirc.
-
The minifigs in the 2019 castle were just plain (and) boring. They might allow fo some black falcons but that wouldn't be any incentive for me to buy the set at this point.
-
Nice - wonder if we will see a return if the forest men.
-
Im not saying its a new trend - on the contrary. Just to clarify: this is a lighthearted discussion for me. While I would greatly appreciate any new castle theme with tons of civilians in it - the lack of it doesnt change too much for me. There has been quite a number of suitable minifigs coming out in the last couple of years that I even missed some of them :). In fact I dont mind having sets/figs released at a slower pace. This year I am already spending way beyond my lego budget - thanks to the black falcons. With a potentially useful 3in1 creator castle coming up I honestly hope there wont be too much more this year.

Nobody ever argued vehicle based sets can't have location-sets. I didnt really study my way into the topic, but even for me its obvious there is a tendency towards vehicle-based themes. Not really sure if we should even call them this way but unless its licensed theme, like harry potter or minecraft (both original IPs arent vehicle based or focused on vehicles) there is a high likelihood the next lego original IP big bang theme will be vehicle based and follow the same patterns, mecha, bike, airjet etc. On the other hand, lego has increased their revenue last year. That means they knew exactly what the trends are and were able to capitalize on the opportunity. And there is a high likelihood their sales wouldnt have been that great if they had just stuck with castle and pirates for all those years :)
-
tbh - i think you are doing exacly what you are accusing the other side of, lol I i just went to lego shop monkie kid yes, they have that location based island set and it is followed by about 9 - 10 vehicle/mecha based sets
-
so location-based sets prove what exactly?
-
i dont really see the point here. to make a point you should have just used the same themes @Lego David used. I mean why not even include lego architecture
-
lol - this post made smile :)
-
they are usually associated with wheels and engines

the kids market is pretty crowded. you have ninjago and other kids themes. making another kiddie castle theme doesnt mean kids will abandon ninjago. but maybe you will attract those kids who arent into ninjago but wouldnt mind some cool looking knights and peasants.
-
imo they should make an entire castle theme 100% with adults in mind and see if kids are into "adult" stuff.
-
Imo its a matter of play vs. build. Kids tend to build lego and play with it whereas adults build and display it. Vehicles are prolly more play-oriented.

Well, if I had very little lego and next to no minifigs I would certainly consider it. My lego attitude has changed over the years and so has my budget. This year is an exception though. I already bought the blacksmith shop and plan to amass my first big castle army, been thinking about 50-100 black falcon knights (I know "big" is relative). Depending on the usefulness of parts I might buy 1-2 of the creator castle sets. Overall I am not too interested in display pieces and as far as parts go this set doesnt seem to warrant the presumed asking price of $200. But thats just my opinion.
-
I actually like it :)
-
indeed - but the image was not a leak but from the old set IDK - i never read them myself but liked the movies as a kid. Guess they arent as popular anymore.
-
not necessary but you can of course. my point simply was that its easier to come up with sets for castle or western whereas its more difficult for romans or egyptians. you can of course have a roman soldier army defend against a barbarian or gladiator uprising and I would absolutely love to see that. not sure if that would make a great subject for a theme that could span multiple waves. Maybe lego should get the asteriks license?
-
so thats your wave?
-
no thats the original bf set you can check it under 6074

Imo pirates, castle and western are themes which kids (at least when I was young) had been exposed the most to. Who didn't have a friendly skirmish with wooden swords? or played pirates or cowboys. Other genres are much more difficult to get into (playwise), I mean, how are you gonna play romans or egyptians as a kid? those genres are as relatable as cops and robbers. Whereas it might be a little bit more difficult for kids to play romans or egyptians and lego had probably taken that into account when deciding to design the original sets. I am not too familiar with playmobil but the reason why they might have chosen those themes because lego didnt. Not sure how playmobil compares to lego saleswise. The stereotypical aspect is quite huge with those themes. You have the bank that gets robbed and the sheriff who will try to get the bandits behind bars. The treasure map. Robin Hood. The list of tropes could go on and on. Whereas romans and egyptians? hmmm.... and now create a whole wave that would make sense and appeal to kids.

UNLIKELY probably is the word that describes it best imo. The only thing thats happening atm is the competition is releasing one big "historic" set after another to fill the void lego has created. Just recently I saw a presentation of bluebrixx bringing out several big western sets. Actually I am glad, my wallet will not complain as I probably would have bought them all (if it was lego).

In order to avoid any tensions with the muslim community I doubt lego would ever bring out a set featuring a conflict between the orient and the occident.

I can't really see how castle being dead could ever be a good thing and how it would relate to exploring any kind of history. and who are they fighting? Nice collection btw!!!
