  1. I love that McGann is so popular amongst fans despite being in an apparently lacklustre film. And neat! I'm growing to Friendlich, at first he seemed just a comical adversary to Valkyrie, but in his repeat appearances he's really grown to a three-dimensional character who genuinely means well and does his job but just has the most terrific bad luck. His scene at the end of the recent Dash storyline was quite touching. A testimony to your writing, as its that kind that appeals to me most in writing; not how a characters begins, but how he grows. Ah, that's quite clever, and it works especially for the secret meeting type character too. Do you? I'll try to keep doing so, it's a wonderfully informative site that has helped with my own writing, though I'd advise against looking through it much, you'll be there for months :p And don't undersell yourself, new media, including webcomics, are quickly becoming a very well recognised from of storytelling, and not just to us internet geeks either. Hope you win! Anyhoo, Jenny! I recognised the title instantly, you earn points again for playing the Long Game and playing it well. I remember you saying that this plot element was to come after Dash, does this mean that her part can still happen concurrently with the main story (real-life wise, not in-story since it's decades). And grief, where did the two years go huh? Either way, I hope you'll continue making this story, its rare that I can invest in something this much that is outside my usual interests. Batbrick Away!
  2. Amazing stuff tin7, I can't fault a single one. Katara is my favourite alongside Suki, you could have messed up the hair so badly, but it comes across wonderfully. Excellent fig adaptations of a terrible movie! Batbrick Away!
  3. Very neat! I like the lighter atmosphere of your moc, especially the pink surface. I'm not sold one the looks of the humans, but the tribal species looks great! The orange eyes are very creative. Batbrick Away!
  4. Ironic that they made the name properly Asian while simultaneously making the characters white. Batbrick Away!
  5. You forgot about this gem: "Duh, I'm Leonardo! I don't know the mass of Higgs Boson! Just because Bender's reaction to it was so typically Bender. And of course because the achievement of total planetary genocide, the end of all things, absolute annihilation of humanity and all other species has always been one of my stated goals in life, along with getting a cool trenchcoat and fedora. Batbrick Away!
  6. One of the best thing's I've seen in quite a while, and that includes that youtube video of the wife-stealing-goat. I adore how you've done the ammunition belt just hanging off to the side, and the robot conveys a real sense of menace without being a Terminator knock-off which is awesome. And the rocket effect is simple but brilliant, a great little touch like the smashed wall which really sells the whole thing. But they had to launch a nuke to stop it? That's a bit poor Batbrick Away!
  7. Heh. I like parts that are about Valkyrie without Shwartz. I'd completely forgotten about her little club, I'm always curious as to why that guy always has his helmet only just open, a tic perhaps? And Masoch will soon be achieving ensemble darkhorse status. Also, I notice you are up for another "Best Comic" nomination, is this the same as last time or bigger? Batbrick Away!
  8. Given Mario's propensity to leaning towards the bizarre and odd formats (Party, go-karting, sports, Paper Mario especially) think a lot of fun could actualy be had in adapting another game for the Lego format. Not sure how that could ever come about though, so my second choice is; James Bond! Don't give me that look, Indiana Jones had just as much death, violence and destruction as Bond and certainly didn't shy away from sex even if it was more subtle. I think the many mechanics of the 007 series would lend itself fantastically to Lego's odd sense of humour I enjoy so much. Just look at their take on the Crusader's reaction to Donovan;s death - From "He chose...poorly" to "Heeheehee!" Batbrick Away!
  9. Very neat monster usernameMDM! The four arms and various protruding spines really give an exaggerated, threatening look that the poor Crystal King lacked. I agree with you on the black joints, I think if you manage to replace them with grey ones it will look nice, but as it stands this is a terrific creation, my only beef is that the back is a bit bare. The front however, has a lot of menace and I love how you've spread the green colour around. Batbrick Away!
  10. Futurama is back tonight with an episode worthy of the greatest of the original series! Words cannot describe how glad I am that they kept Leela and Fry an official couple, otherwise I would've unleashed a vortex of polite criticisms in haiku form. My favourite jokes were that Hitler and Eleanor Roosevelt one, the "mountain of skulls!" and "That was the old Fry, he's dead now!" Batbrick Away!
  11. Fantastic creation Oky. The size of it is odd but strangely works. I love how you've done the colours, they work very nicely while still looking appropriately space...buggy...ish. The boot is also very cool, a neat simple function, and the rear message to Zurg has me laughing at its complete lack of subtlety. Well done getting front-paged too, it deserves it. The sidekick looks like a bit of a pansy though Batbrick Away!
  12. Okay, we've had a few more episodes air, such as Gorillas in Our Midst! and The Siege of Starro Part 1!, so I thought I'd update these posts. I enjoyed Gorillas, but the teaser overall was much better than the episode, and very dark too. The Siege of Starro is fantastic too! Very epic, and with an interesting ending twist that makes me anticipate Part 2......which won't be airing for about a month, if not longer About the Shazam ep Oky, Captain Marvel is specifically a magic character, his lightning is not actually proper lightning and can be generated almost anywhere, even indoors. Gotta agree about Chill of the Night! too, one of my favourite eps yeat. Not the best, but very near the top. Mr Freeze is based on his filmation appearance, and Poison Ivy in this is my favourite animated design of her yet. News from Comic-Con as well: *Following the end of the 2nd season (13 eps still to go), there will be 13 episodes next year which will be the last episodes of the show. *The last season will be pulling out all the stops in terms of craziness - one of the teasers will have the heroes playing baseball against the villains (even Oky has to admit that will be awesome) *There will be 2 JLI (Justice League International) episodes for next year *Upcoming episodes include one set in WWII, A Doom Patrol episode titled The Last Patrol! An episode with Huntress, Black Canary and Catwoman with a musical number called Birds of Prey! *Superman and Wonder Woman ARE appearing YES! *Emperor Joker was played at the panel, apparently not only being awesome but having an out-of-costume Harley, a musical number and Batman dying again and again and again. There's other stuff but I can't remember it right now, but I am very much looking forward to the rest even with Cartoon Network's absolutely idiot schedules. Batbrick Away!
  13. Comic-Con has revealed some interesting details: * As mentioned , the cabbage merchant will not appear, but "his legacy will be present in some form." * As an evolution of the first series, The Legend of Korra will have more sophistication to it, but still keep the humor, fun hybrid animals, and action. * It won't cover more mature subject material necessarily, just different mature subjects. "It won't be another war, but a different sort of conflict." * On whether or not we'd see a love interest for Korra: "We love that stuff. We're total cornballs, we love cheesy teen romance. Rest assured, there's plenty or romance happening in the story, but it's the same balance of ingredients that we like." * Katara IS in fact the mother of Aang's offspring, who will be central to the show. "We didn't mean for it to be a big super-secret, that they end up together." * On the persecution of Airbenders being compared to the X-Men registration act: "We'll see something like that, but in sort of a different structure." * Will it be a very different world from where we left off? "Yes and no, the world has definitely changed, and evolved, and advanced, but we're very conscious of keeping the same feeling. Not totally different, but it's definitely generations later." * "There will definitely only be one Avatar at a time, and it is Korra." * So will Aang have any kind of presence? "Yes...in his way." * DiMartino and Konietzko will continue to work with Joaquim Dos Santos and Ryuki Hung, working to improve the design and animation. * The Legend of Korra will in fact be a mini-series, with Michael and Bryan directly writing each episode. * "As a mini-series, it's going to be really tight. While we really love the filler episodes, those are some of our favorites, this thing is just lean and mean. It's a really cool driving story." I gotta say, every single piece of info I hear about this project makes me love it more and more and more. We'll, atleast the info I posted reveals that there won't be a single filler episode, making it the equivelant of the first season pretty much, possibly better since most regard it as weaker to the awesome seasons 2 and 3. I think it's odd that your comprehension of weapons is limited from a pike to a gun. What about Ty Lee's chi-blocking? I imagine after joining the Kyoshi Warriors they would've learned and passed down the technique, it is very efficient against benders. There is also spears, cannons, swords, armies, battleships, air fleets etcetera. In the Avatarverse due to bending some technologies like aircraft are made much sooner than things like guns. There seems to be a focus on mechanics, albeit more simple ones that must be done on a large scale, as opposed to firearms which would be hard to accomplish with firebending. Not to mention that anti-benders might not strictly be wanting to taker over from benders. That said, giving it some thought firearms could work. They would need to be very simple and steampunky and rare but it could happen. I like the idea that the non-benders are revolting because the spirituality and preference of bending over tech fulfills the sort of purpose the Catholic Church did hundreds of years ago; good intentions, but stopped advancement and better living conditions. Batbrick Away!
  14. Spoiler post - I thought it was fantastic, likely the best film I'll see all year. While I agree with Clone O'Patra about it having a bit too much "tell", I'll disagree that it didn't have a strong emotional core. I love that against the cyberpunk and exposition and dreamscapes it was mostly just a man learning to forgive himself for his past failings and come back to reality, however it is perceived. In that way, I love Blade Runner, but this film isn't asking what it means to be human, nor which is the dream world, but more what our reality actually means to us and what's strong enough to keep us there. In that way, the ending was deliciously meta; Cobb has found where he wants to live. It's not about whether he's still in a dream because he's made up his mind and knows it's real. It's the audience that has not been subject to an inception. The entire film plants in us the idea that he may still be living in a dream world, drawing us in as it goes deeper and deeper. Then, the end gives us an idea, and it's all we can think about after the end, furthered still be the "kick" music playing during the end credits. I'll post more thoughts later, and while I accept there is some faults, I love that Nolan has gone outside his usual theme - the character falling to obsession with tragic results - instead to a character redeeming himself from tragedy resulting from his obsession in the past. And the zero gravity hall fight was incredibly innovative and well-done. And this film in NOT, I repeat NOT a rip-off of the Matrix as someone will eventually say, since it bears a greater similarity to Dark City, a film previous to that one. Oh, and Ellen Page is gorgeous, Tom Hardy is badass, Joseph Gordon-Levitt is charismatic, Cillian Murphy is actually heartwarming and Ken Watanabe is never not awesome.
  15. I actually hadn't thought about this. I assumed it was a blend of both in a sense, that Dash wasn't there physically, but that Romero will be watched by his shadow until the moment is right. It'll be interesting to find out exactly. Batbrick Away!
  16. I sympathise So what does everyone reckon of the info that this is a 12 episodes miniseries? I'm a little disheartened myself. Batbrick Away!
  17. Well, that's very vague. It'd be like saying "I hope the villain in the upcoming movie isn't trying to obtain a MacGuffin, that would be a rip-off of Indiana Jones". The revolt is no more a rip-off of Star Wars than it is of the Old Bolshevik's, Children of Men or Power Rangers. A group revolting against another more powerful group is a very obtuse storytelling plot. Same with the guns, even more so. Batbrick Away!
  18. Agreed with practically everything you've said here. I'm really, really looking to see how the world has advanced with its steampunk technology, and I love that they are making the show a little independent while still acknowledging TLA's characters. I'm calling it too; Sokka is a Grand Lotus. That said, given that this means Aang died when he was approx 65-70, and Korra is 16 approx, older characters will be quite old, as Captain Obvious would put it. The "Anti-Bending" movement is brilliant too. I was wondering after the series if with the growing technology movement non-benders would begin outstripping benders in power, and this would result in a major divide as bender's try to assert themselves as superior. I wonder how the series will tackle it. Batbrick Away!
  19. Argh! This last one was very well shot KDog! I know its a sort of heresy to have a darker strip as your favourite in a lighter comic, but this one is easily in my top 5 storylines. It actually creeped me out a bit, and because I sped read it the pure unexpectedness and surreal-ness of it (surreal stuff is my Achilles heel in horror)quite scared me. Awesome stuff, I love how this is going, and the darker light in the moments before the reveal works excellently. I can't believe it took me this long to realise. Cool choice going with 8 too, I'm still hoping he shows up for a Doctor's special in NewWho. I like that you've got your priorities straight when it comes to how you want each story to go. I really dislike it when shows attempt a darker episode but still splice it with the more juvenile humour to break the tension. Not tat humour in a darker part doesn't work, but you didn't fall into the trap of making it excessive. It must become his new character trait! Batbrick Away!
  20. Amazing! So intricately designed, so well thought out, a terrifying, amazing, splendorous, brilliant creation! It gives off a vibe of sheer menace, fear, loathing, and horror! Never again will I lay my eyes on such a magnificent Lego adaptation of one of the Doctor's most feared enemies. I speak of course, of the Cybermat (Seriously though, it's adorable!) Batbrick Away!
  21. Fantastic water design there, one of the best I've seen! The raft looks incredibly effective on it and I can even imagine it rocking the way it looks. The creature is just perfect too, the tires work excellently and the face, snout etc are well crafted. Not too sure on the rock/cave section, I think the way it inverts itself could be done a little better, it looks a little last minute to me, espeically with the single colour top. Batbrick Away!
  22. Well I'm all for it. Not necessarily because I love the POTC franchise (I only like Black Pearl, I think the rest are rubbish), but because like most licensed themes this could give me a variety of fleshie figgs, parts, colours, accessories that will be perfect for my creations! That is assuming this is a full theme though. Batbrick Away!
  23. Simply amazing as always BaronSat! I adore this Funhouse, so many fantastic and clever details. The interior espeically with the chemical vat, though the trick slide is an ingenious touch. The bright colours are fantastic as well, the Joker face entrance particularly is well crafted. I am beaming with jealousy of your Batman mocing skills The hammer and mechanism for the door makes the whole thing work too. This has given me so many great ideas for my own Batman creations. I won't be directly copying anything here of course, but I now intend to build a "Multipurpose" villain lair where bits can be swapped around to make it a lair for Joker, Two-Face, Riddler etc. Batbrick Away!
  24. Okay, I no longer get what you are trying to say here; explain further. Batbrick Away!
  25. Yay, he's back! You know, just a random thought, but being a Doctor Who fan, is McGann a reference to the actor? Anyway, great return, not a lot of laughs, but I'm actually glad; this story is more about finally advancing the arc and establishing some of the darker themes further. I've also noticed Friendlich has a habit of talking to people without facing them, which has happened a few times with him. Is this intentional? Either way I think it's neat, I like to think of it as a character tic of his. Batbrick Away!
