  1. 4 studs is still too little, normally you would have a 3 stud wide porthole with about 7 to 8 studs in between portholes. But offsetting portholes properly is a must on 2 or more gun deck ships. And isn't Lego supplying what you just mentioned?
  2. Welcome to Eurobricks!
  3. Well Lego has to go with it's time. Lego's main goal is to sell sets, sets that are mostly (80%) bought and used by children. Aim for Lego is to make their sets attractive to children, not to be historically accurate. Of course sets have been simplified a bit opposed to a decade ago, materials and employment costs have risen and to keep the sets affordable they use less or bigger parts. I think the newer sets are a lot better then those some 8 years ago, when everything was made of big parts. I honestly love the new figures and accessories in the new sets and they do provide me a wider range of parts to use to make my own Historically correct, or not so correct, MOC's. Lego is still a toy, think about that my young Padawans.
  4. Ah that is just his Halo, no biggie there.
  5. Welcome to Eurobricks! Though it would be wise not to mention if you are under 18, since the site rules say that the minimum age is 18 years. I do think however that you should leave that up to us Dr Kilroy, thank you!
  6. Happy birthday guys, have a great day!
  7. Well i'm a Dutch Pirate, but i have multiple personalities and hair colours, so who knows who i'll kill next?!
  8. Welcome to Eurobricks and good luck on your restoration project!
  9. I only had seen some rail cars with propellers on the front to clear the snow off the track, until now... This is a cool model you made, thanks for educating me about these machines! And welcome to Eurobricks!
  10. Visiting ships is great for inspiration, and we are lucky to still have quite a few unburned ones in Holland. It was good talking to you guys, i really enjoyed discussing Lego shipbuilding and the books Nykle had with him.
  11. Great set, very useful when building an army. I have bought about 7 or 8 of these in good used condition for about 10 euro's a piece. That is a really good win as they cen send it to you in a letter. Thanks for the review Z!
  12. That looks quite stunning already, i like the use of the green. I just wonder if it isn't a bit small to be true minifig scale? For the lanterns you might try and make some antennas stick out the top and then add the lanterns with upside down mounted 1x1 clips.
  13. It is very helpful to get some original frigate plans and build from them. I am currently building a Dutch VOC Ship in a 1:39, exact minifig scale. Teddy is also building a 1:39 scale HMS Victory model. Phred is building a 1:39 scale HMS constitution. And finally Errorist is building a 1:39 scale frigate. It might be interesting to look through those topics for inspiration. Good luck on it, i know that it is far from easy!
  14. Here's my current Bluecoat army:
  15. Yes that is correct! I don't think they are very expensive to get one.
  16. I have almost 60 of them and they are well trained, they shall fight redcoats, new or old.
  17. Almost correct, you forgat 2 low mast bases and the rest i edited in your quote;-)
  18. In this case we can also have 1 blue team going against another and 1 blue team going against the red winning team to get to 2 finalists. If the blue teams battle it out first, the red team gets of to easy IMO...
  19. Welcome to Eurobricks!
  20. Another thing sprung to my mind: more animals like sheep else has sprung to mind: more animals like sheep, pigs and chickens. Especially chickens since they had a lot of them on ships. The chickens should be about as big as the rats, so that they can fit in the smaller pens that were made on the decks.
  21. Please resize your images to a maximum of 800 x 600 pixels so that people with a slow connection can see them as well. You could also use a little less emoticons in your posts, there really is no need to put one behind every sentence. If you have trouble resizing and are not familiar with the site guidelines, then please click the links in my signature and check them out. Just some friendly advice.
  22. Ok guys i have uploaded more detailed shots of the construction. If there are any specific questions, now is the time to ask them, next time she will be closed up and i will start detailing her.....
  23. Ok, here are some more pictures of how the stern is going to be build, not the hinges under the windows and how the single pane is attached: I have started to build up the support in the aft section, note that all is build over the hinges: Note how it levels with the small supports under the gangways: Ok first part of the deck in: Now i can decide where to put the steering wheel, compass and smaller cannons: I have closed up the bow: And made a preliminary figurehead, note how the top headrail connects to the 3 stud brick on the fig's armor. This is an armor from Brickforge, but the same result can ofcourse be achieved with a neck bracket: The toilets on the small deck in between the headrails (credit goes to Admiral Bejaune): Again the inner works: Adding the bowsprite: Some pics were taken in fake light and therefore not of the best quality.
  24. I'd also like to see a Dutch faction, as they ruled the seas for the longest time in the golden age. Such a great nation it is.
