Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
sebastian666 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I wouldn’t worry too much. It was just one LEGO store employee that I spoke to in Manhattan. The LEGO employee I spoke to here in Delaware said 1am East Coast time. Something about the distribution center being in Central Time. No one had a firm answer. I’m not taking any chances. I’ll be checking at 11pm ET too Didn’t @Azani confirm it though? -

Do we have any more info on the rumored Monster Book of Monsters set or HP-4? The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a Monster Book build similar to Newt’s Briefcase, but containing a new brick built Basilisk, brick built Fluffy, maybe another brick built spider, a handful of Cornish pixies and a Professor Hagrid minifig in his vest with Fang. They could still give us the Chamber of Secrets next year since it’s featured in the Deathly Hallows, but maybe it just includes the basilisk skeleton. -

I think we’re almost guaranteed to get a D2C Hogsmeade set in the same style as the D2C Diagon Alley set. I imagine it will include the Three Broomsticks, Honeydukes, Dervish & Bangs, Madam Puddifoots, the Hog’s Head Inn, and the Shrieking Shack. Although I can easily them saving the Shrieking Shack for a stand-alone release like what we anticipate is happening with Gringott’s. Hogsmeade is arguably even more iconic than Diagon Alley in terms of the profiles of its buildings. Those angular snow covered roofs and crooked chimneys are the the first thing you see in Universal’s Wizarding World. Just look at how amazing this Department 56 Three Broomsticks is and imagine how cool it would be to get this in LEGO form: -

I think the face-to-face alley configuration is also a great idea for bookend style displays, which I am really fond of. You could connect Ollivander’s / Scribulus to WWW and have one bookend display, then on another shelf connect QQS to Flourish & Blott’s / Florean’s. Each display would only be around 9 inches deep, which is pretty standard depth for a bookshelf. -

I called the LEGO store in NYC’s Flatiron District and the guy I spoke to said they are getting an extra shipment of sets overnighted for tomorrow morning to deal with the demand. He said the phone has been ringing off the hook all day with calls about the Diagon Alley set. He recommended trying to get it online first before going into a physical location and said the sets should be available at 3am US East Coast time or 8am ET at the latest. -

Has anyone actually been able to get the AR feature on the minisite to work? I just keep getting a prompt to reload. I have a brand new iPhone 11 Pro Max so there should be no problem... edit: I sorted it out. If anyone is having trouble, simply go to the Safari app in your iPhone settings and under Camera click either Ask or Allow access. The default is Deny access. -

Has anyone noticed that on top of Scribulus we technically get another shop? I can’t remember the name of it but it’s the Diagon Alley fortune teller. That’s why there’s that magic skull and potion and comfy chair up there. The sign outside says “Galleon per reading”. Some folks thought it said “Gilderoy” when it first leaked but I’m proud to say I predicted “galleon” correctly! Does anyone else remember the name of the Diagon Alley fortune teller? -

It’s one of my favorites now, too. I was late to the game, but I got lucky last week and found this Orthanc on eBay in a brand new unopened box for only $300. Bag End is the only other LOTR set I have and I absolutely love it. There are so many missing sets I wish they had made... the Balrog is #1 on my wish list. Considering your username, I imagine you agree Maybe now that the LOTR show is coming to Amazon Prime next year there is hope. Anyway, back to Harry Potter! The more I look at the layout of the new Diagon Alley set I can’t help but think that this is the same style they are going to go with for the predicted D2C Hogsmeade Village. Four modular builds - Three Broomsticks, Honeydukes, Madam Puddifoot’s, Dervish & Banges, Hog’s Head - all featuring the iconic angular snow covered rooftops of Hogsmeade. The obvious missing Hogsmeade location would be the Shrieking Shack, which could be released separately (like Gringott’s). What do other folks think? Are there other D2C Harry Potter sets in our future? How likely is a D2C Hogsmeade in the same style as this Diagon Alley set? -

@Juturna - Thanks for sharing your honest feelings in the build up to tomorrow’s big reveal. You are not alone in using LEGO as an outlet for your anxiety. It has helped me immensely over the last few years. However, the irony is that moments like this - awaiting a much anticipated set to go on sale - can actually increase anxiety, which defeats the whole purpose. My best recommendation to you would be to try unplugging for a few hours. This forum will still be here when you get back and LEGO isn’t going to put this set on sale until Tuesday at the earliest. I personally had to unplug this weekend because I knew I would just drive myself crazy checking for updates on the release. So I turned off my phone, turned on the TV, and binged all 12 hours of the extended edition Lord of the Rings trilogy, building this beautiful beast in the process: This is only my second LEGO Lord of the Rings set and I have to say I am absolutely blown away. I thought the Harry Potter sets were detailed, but this is a whole other level. For the ultimate Tolkien fans like me - they even included a stickered tile with a detailed drawing of Aragorn’s Ring of Barahir! I am so excited to finally see Diagon Alley up close and personal, because if they include this level of detail (which the extreme attention to building designs and the record-breaking sticker sheets indicates it might) the set will be a masterpiece. -

Haha that’s what I said earlier! Who needs a brick built Leaky Cauldron when you can have a virtual one? Why waste money on minifigs of wizards and witches we all wanted when you can just download digital versions? Sadly, I think this is the only way I will ever get the Daedalus Diggle and the Doris Crockford I had been hoping for. -

That could be a possibility, but I still think Gringott’s will get its own release. However Diagon Alley is rolled out, though, I think all signs are pointing to some kind of app or virtual reality feature that is part of the Diagon Alley set. The QR code is probably going to direct you to download an app, which when you open it will feature a screen where you have to tap the bricks of the Leaky Cauldron to make them magically move, and then once they do you have access to the Phelps twins’ video that will explain how this new augmented reality feature of the set will work. They might even let you see how the Diagon Alley set would look in your house and test out the AR function (magic moving minifigs in the shops, an explosion of wand boxes in Ollivander’s, etc.) I am personally not a big fan of this idea, but it makes sense in terms of LEGO’s recent marketing and all of the virtual play-function features. So many of LEGO’s new products feature this online / offline functionality. Ultimately, whether you can turn your set into an Augmented Reality experience or not really doesn’t affect the beauty of the set for me. -

I predict that the brick wall will be virtual. And that there will be some kind of app that goes along with this set that is augmented reality like the Wizards Unite game for iPhone. That’s why we didn’t get all kinds of random witch and wizard minifigs - they will all be virtual! Maybe this new Monster Book set will have some kind of augmented reality feature too? -

In case anyone missed it, LEGO is promoting the new Diagon Alley set with some influential female Harry Potter superfans on Instagram. These are paid partnerships in which LEGO sends the Instagrammer four house QR Code sets to build, along with some teaser language about a whole new virtual experience. I have a feeling that there is more to the D2C Diagon Alley set than meets the eye... Maybe it will incorporate some magic virtual reality smart phone tricks like what LEGO did with Hidden Side. Maybe the Hidden Side series was just a beta test to perfect the tech before launching a whole new series of “magical” Harry Potter sets... Maybe I’m going crazy in anticipation of the official launch of Diagon Alley and the mystery of the lost little Harry minfig in Muggle clothes! Anyway, here’s a link to @flourish_and_bloss. There’s more in her stories. -

Good point. I actually called him out on Instagram when he re-posted all those photos from the Romanian toy store and pretended like it was his own leak. He is always recycling info and never giving credit. Somehow he’s managed to take credit for all of the big leaks this summer, even though minilegogo has been our only legit leaker. -

For $30, could we possibly be getting a skinny facade of the Leaky Cauldron with a small dining room on the ground floor, Harry’s hotel room on the second floor (where he battles the Monster Book of Monsters), and a little moving brick wall? Sounds more like a $50 set after typing it all out. -

A birthday miracle! Does anyone have experience with this site? They are selling the Great Hall on clearance for $26.99! Seems too good to be true. If not, I’m going to stock up! https://sale.brickshouse.cc/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3 -

Okay cool. So there is a precedent for 3+ licensed GWPs in a season. My understanding is that HP-4 is a 2020 set. No clue what it could be though or if it’s where the lost Harry minifig is from. -

I’m not very familiar with how LEGO has done this in the past. Can someone with more info weigh in here? Has LEGO ever done three GWPs for one licensed theme in one season? It seems unlikely to me that we would be getting the Hagrid / Buckbeak GWP, the Owl Delivery GWP, and another yet-to-be-revealed GWP with an exclusive minifig. Is there any precedent for this? Do we have any more info about the HP-4 code that was revealed with the $30 price associated with it? Where did that info come from? I really hope this little Harry in his Muggle clothes minifig is from a new surprise set... For $30 I can see us getting a Leaky Cauldron facade with a little moving brick wall. Maybe not a proper interior though. -

Re-read the description of the set that LEGO has written. They only advertise the ice cream and the love potions. The set is designed to attract girls and women. It’s not a bad thing. But the decision to make QQS pastel pink was 100 percent intentional. It’s not an accident. It’s a marketing strategy. -
Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
sebastian666 replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think this goes back to the larger point about the LEGO Harry Potter series that has been made by myself and several others on here - who is the target audience? LEGO is really trying to attract more girls and women with its LEGO Harry Potter series. The choice to use pastel purple and pastel pink give the whole set a more feminine, fantastical feel. Again, I don’t want to perpetrate problematic stereotypes, but pink is considered an indicator of a “girl’s product” in mainstream marketing. And ultimately, this is not a set about Death Eaters busting through Diagon Alley’s windows in the beginning of HBP and tearing Ollivander out of his shop. It’s a set that is ultimately about shopping and eating ice cream and buying love potions. -
