LEGO Dreamzzz 2024 Rumours and Discussion
danth replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Lack of elf ears gave me doubt too. I just googled images for Link and yeah his hat is way longer than I remember. -
I'm still confused by what this is and why I should care.
-
That's fair. I've read the same comment elsewhere. People are saying a classic Countach in white doesn't make sense because that MOC is so good. As someone who doesn't have the Porsche and doesn't want to jump through hoops for Countach instructions, my vote is for the classic. I thought I heard it would be white but I could be wrong. I wouldn't mind a different color though. Red might be fun... No argument here.

Classic Countach or the new one? I'm assuming the classic design since everyone hates the new one.

LEGO Dreamzzz 2024 Rumours and Discussion

The mech is cool, especially the colors. The Robo Rex I was hoping would be more Zoid or Dinobot like. Is the real news here Cooper's hat mold? Is it new? If so, that might be the mold for Link's hat (from Zelda) as well. -
Is It Possible To Reintroduce Old Sets?
danth replied to SpacePolice89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Wait, do you mean like Star Wars? Then I agree. EDIT: To explain what I mean: Star Wars was popular when Classic Space first existed. And 45+ years later, I don't think Star Wars is popular with kids. I think kids are into Minecraft and Fortnite and Roblox. But SW Lego sets are still being cranked out. I think it's all adults buying them. Funny that you bring up Ninjago. I loved ninjas as a kid, 25 years before Ninjago. They were everywhere. Kids didn't suddenly start loving ninjas in 2011. I would have lost my mind if there was a ninja theme when I was young. I don't really buy the whole "what kids liked has changed" argument. Seems like it's based on just world fallacy. -
Googie style would be fun, but that might be hard to pull off with Lego.

Right? The purple guy was in an employee only set -- I wonder if that means he's around for an upcoming official set? Maybe we'll get the white, orange, and purple guys in an upcoming CLASSIC. SPACE. THEMED. CREATOR. SETTM that comes with all the trans yellow windows from the Micro Rocket GWP and perhaps the Monkie Kid Megapolis. But now I'm dreaming. Maybe using the existing alien head from 2024 City Space.

Rumor: Classic Space Diner GWP coming next month. 2 Classic Space minifigs, white and orange. Alien chef.

Is It Possible To Reintroduce Old Sets?
danth replied to SpacePolice89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Same. Provided there are no stickers. -
I remembered it that way too! Glad I'm not crazy after all. I guess the actual official set name had the colon. Thanks!

But then they'd be perfect. You can't have perfect space sets, that violates Lego's contract with Disney.

Is It Possible To Reintroduce Old Sets?
danth replied to SpacePolice89's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Also looking at it objectively: It had a high number of minifigs for a set with only +300 parts, it had no stickers, many large elaborate prints, had chromed parts, hard a large and elaborate printed base plate, and a non-licensed adventures theme existed. I don't think any of those things are likely or even possible today. You can argue about the value of things like raised base plates but I think the value is immeasurable to kids. My only point here is that you can't attribute everything to nostalgia. -
Dude. DUUUDE. I just built the Friends Space Research Rover, set 42602. It's soooo freaking good. This is basically the Space theme I've been wanting forever, with the exception of it having minidolls and stickers. The minidolls are easily replaceable, the stickers not as much but I have a plan to replace at least some with printed parts. But my gosh. Purple windscreens! TWO 4-wide Speed Champion windscreens, TWO MORE 6-wide, a single large rounded panel, plus FOUR 2-wide window panels. Basically the variety provided enables any kind of MOC; bases, spaceships, whatever you want. And the wheels! Big beautiful vibrant orange space wheels. They could be used as engines or as columns under a moon base. This is pretty close to what I wanted in a Space themed Creator set because of the parts. I kind of want to buy 2 more sets for alt builds: one to build a space ship, and one to build a base. The little alien build is also super cool. I'm more into the vehicle side of things but the plant-based alien ecology is pretty amazing, especially with the transparent colored leaf parts.

A few days ago? The OP didn't mention nostalgia, or even being alive when old Space themes existed. But it was all attributed to nostalgia, and immediately followed up with a literal dismissal of their opinion. -

YES. That and "Rose Colored Glasses." Hear those all the time. The go-to dismissal aimed at anyone who likes classic themes. Yet somehow never aimed at people who buy sets from 47 year old movies. But it would be hilarious to have a script that changes it to say "I uncritically accept the status quo". -

I think the word is "junior-ized" or "juniori-zation" right? Either way...also not a tiresome argument, but simply a single word. I wasn't around for whatever lead to the word filter though. I assume it got heated, and the people who can't take any sort of criticism of Lego whined and got their way, as usual, and the word was banned. I think the real problem is that some people desperately want to police critical opinions, instead of just accepting that some people have them. Anyway, as for the meaning, I always thought that terminology meant larger pieces that replace what would otherwise be a build using multiple pieces. Which is what 4+ (née Juniors) sets usually feature. Is that not the widely accepted meaning? -
More thoughts on the aliens sets. I really, really wish the second alien set had a classic space minifig in another color. As it is, I don't have that much interest in it. However, I do think people really like cute aliens. I submitted an entry to a Space themed Lego contest a while back, and it was a spaceship zooming over alien terrain, with a small throwaway green alien looking up. Most of the comments were about that damn alien! "Oh it's so cute". Yeah but...spaceship? I wonder if one will sell more than the other. Does that mean Lego stores and website only?

I'm starting to get over the trans-neon color fiasco and I'm appreciating these more for what they are. The M-Tron and Ice Planet figs are as cool as they can be, considering. The loss of magnets is sad, but the power loader claw thing is cool. That gray printed tile could be extremely useful for M-Tron MOCs. I can't find it now, but I saw a pic of the regular astronaut's backpack, and it had a very nice large classic space tile! If I remember right it was white with panel lines and an actual golden Space logo, which might be nice for white Space MOCs. That and the printed cheese slopes seem useful. The fake cheesy smile on the Imposter is freaking hilarious. The Retro Space Heroine is way cool. I like the printing on the butler's torso. Reminds me of this:

I'm pretty excited to see the Classic Space person! It's the only one in any 2024 set right? It's nice to have SOMETHING to tie the "Year of Space" back to the original Space theme! I like the face with glasses. Modern faces look super cool in the old Space get-up. Perhaps Neo Classic Space MOCs prepared me for this (though they often use fleshies). The black airtank is a puzzler. I'm almost inclined to give that a pass as it reminds me of mixing colors as a kid to get new combos; I think they did this in some Idea Books too. It would probably look cooler if she had a black waist and gloves too. Also the two alien sets don't appear to be City sets. Or Classic or Creator sets. Are these literally just Space sets??!!

1990s Lego Space was best - how to revive Lego Space
danth replied to Canondorf's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Probably for all the people actively posting in the thread. And the many others who aren't on Eurobricks but post about wanting 80s/90s style Space to return on reddit, Brickset, etc etc. And they would still do that if they were in a Space theme outside of City with more integration of classic factions/colors. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the Star Wars forum to tell the people there that I don't understand who all the Star Wars sets they hope to see would even be for, and that all the sets that exist are perfectly fine. -

I still think one answer to this question is CLASSIC. THEMED. CREATOR. SETS. There's still the mystery of why castle and pirates and vikings had their creator sets but not Space. I think we all know it's because of Star Wars but we all have to pretend it's not that for some reason. But if we ignore that, just imagine what could be done. One big and one small Space themed Creator set a year, each featuring a different classic faction, would be amazing and go along way to satiate the appetite of Space fans without cutting to deep into Disney's loot pile. -

But it's fun! It takes a long time to plan CMFs too. I doubt they would even plan Ice Planet & M-Tron CMFs if they knew those colors would be unavailable. Oh, I forgot to say, I think the established rule is you call something "XXX 2", like "Blacktron 2" or "Space Police 2", you get to change the colors anyway. So, maybe Ice Planet 2 is trans orange + some other shade of blue + white? I like this color scheme, maybe with white or light blue wheels. -

What would be fine with me is tarring and feathering the person responsible for getting rid of those colors, and re-instituting those colors now, regardless of cost. Honestly, I am tempted to think the decision to get of those colors was inter-department sabotage. The Ice Planet, M-Tron, and Blacktron 2 CMFs were in the pipeline when that decision was made. And the brand new Light Year canopy was perfect for Ice Planet. Was some Star Wars department head pushing for their removal to head off competition? If you've read books about the toy industry, that kind of thing is actually common. But I'm wondering, like you, would it better to just say "Ice Planet uses trans orange now" and "M:Tron uses bright green now"? I dunno, maybe that's better than the lack of visors as seen in the CMFs.
