Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
Kit Figsto replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Racing Buggy Transporter and Tractor both are interesting, I'm hoping that the "racing buggies" are some sort of sandrail/off road go-kart looking thing as opposed to just a quad bike. -
A few others that they could do: Zuckuss or 4-LOM are helmet-y enough to where I think you could do a build of their head like Boba Fett. Jango Fett makes sense at some point further down along the line. Shoretroopers, AT-AT driver (those two especially, please!), and some of the Solo troopers (Mimbian Stormtrooper, Mudtrooper) could also be conducive to a model. I could also see them doing something with clones/rebel pilots where they include a bunch of extra tiles and stuff so that you can customize the colors or artwork, with a few patterns given and then the ability to do a custom one as well. Obviously with Rex or Cody it's a bit more distinct, but if they just did a generic P2 clone, they could certainly make it customizable by legion. As far as statues, I'd like to see re-makes of the C-3PO and Battle Droids from the Technic line back in the early 2000s, also an IG-88 statue.

Darn. Well, that settles that I suppose. Unless LEGO has decided that they can't go without giving us some form of a Landspeeder, so we're getting the figures anyway Even still, 3 figures is interesting for sure. -

I think you have a point, although I'd add that in addition to TCW vehicles, there's a few "staples" that we seem to get from the prequels, either the Naboo speeder or starfighter, and then there's those few Kashyyk sets that they seem to make every few years as well. I also agree that there's a certain sect of fans who seem to view a wave as exclusively good or exclusively bad, which is annoying because I think waves like this past summer got a lot of hate (from fans of any trilogy) because it wasn't exclusively based around one era. Everyone's more than entitled to hold an opinion, but I feel like there are some people who don't look at the other side of it. OT fans don't necessarily get new and exciting things every year either, yes, in terms of volume there's typically more OT stuff but this year, for example, the only new system scale set that the OT got was Ben's hut. And the hoarding of sets get a bit ridiculous. I see it all over Reddit or Youtube or whatever with people that buy like 50 of a battle pack (especially the AAT or 501st ones recently) and leave a bunch of them sealed anyway. Why?- 127 replies

Didn't think of that, I haven't played Fallen Order either so I don't know if there's a possible tie-in there either. The only protocol droid I can think of was Zero from the prison break episode, I think it was Ep 6. But again, that makes no sense as there wasn't a TIE present anywhere in that episode and there weren't any short leg characters there either. -

Hm...This TIE news is really strange. OT makes the most sense if it's part of this series of scaled down vehicles, since I don't know why'd they'd lead off with a vehicle from another property, but those figures don't seem to fit anything. I mean, I know the 4+ sets didn't always have the most logical figures (C-3PO with the A-Wing, Rebel Trooper with the TIE) but I can't think of any short leg characters from the OT besides Jawas and Ugnaughts. Could it be from the Cassian show that's supposed to be coming this spring? Mando wouldn't really make any sense unless that last figure is Gideon and we're somehow getting a new droid and new short character from S2 (which would be a TON of new characters, considering like half of the Rebels cast is already rumored to be popping up), I don't think there's any characters in Rebels that would warrant short legs (and the only protocol droid important enough to get a figure is AP-5), I haven't seen Resistance so I can't speak there, I don't think they'd bring back Freemakers or anything like that... -

Part of the problem is that basically every vehicle was a re-hash of the OT. The Falcon was the same (obviously), X-Wings and TIEs were the same, AT-ATs and Star Destroyers were more or less the same (so if they keep making them they'd just make the OT versions), Kylo Ren's shuttle, those weird Crait ski speeder things and the bombers from TLJ are the only new vehicles that pop into my head immediately that actually had significant screen time, and of those, Ren's ship was basically the only one that I could see actually being continued in the future. I agree. When I was younger, all that I wanted was Boba Fett or Darth Maul or Darth Vader, I didn't care what was from which trilogy or whatever, I just wanted the 'cool' characters. Honestly with the absolute youngest generation of fans, I don't really even know how much Clone Wars or prequels resonates with them, I feel like most of them tend to gravitate towards BB-8 or Kylo Ren or Porgs or whatnot. It's only really the 13-15 year olds and up that could still be considered the "prequel" generation. But you I said, I don't think kids are giving much through to "I don't like these movies, so I don't want these sets", rather, they just want fun stuff to fly around. I am really very anxious to see what the TIE and X-Wing look like especially, somehow despite me amassing probably close to a hundred different Star Wars ships/models, I don't have a single minifig scale X-Wing or TIE. Hopefully this breaks that streak! -

Didn’t really see anybody talking about it, but Landino on IG said that the X-Wing apparently has a different nose construction and less detail on the wings, comes with Luke and R2-D2, and that the TIE has the same cockpit but scaled down wings and 3 figured. Curious if the X-Wing comes with any other figures (one fig and a droid in a $50 set vs 3 in a $40 set seems really odd, especially since I doubt the TIE comes with a droid). I’d assume a TIE pilot is inevitable, but I’m very anxious to see pics and who else comes with it. -

We also don't know if that's the Gunship anyway. The vote was in like last February, and I seem to remember an interview with designers saying that they didn't have prototypes or anything mocked up yet prior to the vote. 11 months seems like a really quick turnaround time for them to develop a set that big and get it mass-produced. -

That would definitely make sense. Those two would be the next logical ones to make, in my opinion. I think this might be an interesting wave but it’s definitely not the greatest for people looking for more system scale stuff (myself included). A cheap Mando set is great, I’m wondering what that could be. The only small vehicles I can think of were the speeder bikes on Tatooine, IG-11’s speeder on Nevarro, and I guess a Bluurg but those all seem highly unlikely. I’m curious how the smaller X-Wing/TIE/Shuttle will look. I definitely appreciate the fact that they’re trying to make something that’s sort of a stopgap between the $80 X-Wing and the $30 4+ one, since they’re very broad ends of the spectrum. I’m hoping they’re sort of like the 1999-2008ish versions where they’re still scaled well, just not the most hyper-detailed. My biggest complaints are no battle packs (but we already knew that, it just hurts to see it!) and the size of the wave, meaning therefore that there’s very little new stuff coming. However, my finances are very happy because there’s a Cantina with my name on it, and I don’t know if I’d manage to get that plus a bunch of January sets. And about the Han, if it’s brown jacket Han, that’s gotta be from Solo, right? The only time he had a brown jacket in the OT was Endor, and they didn’t even have the Falcon then. So if that’s true, hopefully it’s the white/blue Falcon, then it’s at least something “new”. -

This was a promo back in December/January that they were running until it sold out, I think it was "Spend $40 (or equivalent in other countries) on Star Wars and get the promo" and I'm assuming they had a lot of extra stock due to the pandemic and such resulting in people not shopping as much, so they're offloading extra stock. I would bet that this is just a one-time thing for now, there are thoughts (not sure if these are rumors or just people wishful thinking) that they could do a CMF series if the Hasbro license were to change from giving hem exclusive rights to produce figures, but until something ever comes, I'd assume that's not going to happen. -
Cloud City also had no new parts, nothing outrageously complex in terms of the parts that it did include (at least everything in that doesn't seem to be any more complex than what we're getting here), and zero new molds that I can remember. We got a re-printed Ugnaught head and a re-color of the Rebel helmet that was put out for Rogue One, those were the only "new" parts (by new I mean they were like 4 years old but had very few uses before then), and we got one set of dual molded legs. Every other figure either had already been released or was just re-colored existing parts. This one already had better value than Cloud City just due to having more parts, but include the fact that we get 3 new molds and 3 "rare" molds (Ithorian, Trandoshian, and Rodian head, which, if my memory serves me right, have had 1, 3, and 4 releases each), and the giant Dewback, which is both rare and significantly larger than almost anything else LEGO ever produces parts-wise. And you're totally right about Yoda too, it's a bunch of basic bricks to create a display model, not a large-scale playset with minifigures and ships and such.

I'm trying to mentally calculate how much the figures will go for and I think you're about right with that estimate. Just basing it off of Cloud City prices, Ponda Baba I would imagine will be about the price of Lando (unless he gets a re-release), so that alone is like $40. Garindan I think will be around there too, also since there's less of a chance that he gets re-released. Labria I think will be at least $25 because he has a low chance of being re-released anytime soon, at least not while the Cantina is on the shelf, but he's not as recognizable as some of the others. Dr. Evazan maybe around there just because he's new but no other new molds? Kabe, the Bossk-looking guy (forgot his name, sorry) and Momaw Nadon I see around maybe $10-15 just because they're not new molds, but are new characters that, again, we likely won't get again, certainly not in the next 4-5 years, but are less famous than Evazan. Wuher currently is surprisingly cheap, only about $5, this one I could see being a bit more expensive just because it only comes in a high dollar set, but let's just say around $5 for the sake of estimation. Lobot, for example, is about a $10 figure and I would say could be comparable there (no new molds, minor character, only been release once or twice before). The Bith look the same to me and are currently $8 on BL, so I don't see this really decreasing the price that much just because it's a very expensive set. Maybe $5-8 on those? Greedo is one I'm not sure about. I don't think it reaches much about $10 just because that's about what the last two go for, and this one doesn't seem significantly better, it's not going to reach the value of the 2003 release. The Jawa, Han, Chewie, the droids, Luke, Ben and the Sandtroopers are obviously not terribly exciting, so nothing there as far as value. All told, that's roughly $175 for the new characters, adding in Wuher, Greedo, and the Bith comes out to right at $200 or so. Now, this is just rough estimation on my part based on Cloud City figures (which I would say had similar desirability as the new characters in this one) and previous iterations of figures in this. So basically, if someone is looking to buy the set but only cares about the figures, it's almost more economical to just shell out $350 (or wait until a potential Amazon/Black Friday deal and get it for a bit cheaper), sell off the repeat figures and then sell the building on eBay, especially if you wait until the set retires to do so.

Unpopular Opinions related to Lego Star Wars
Kit Figsto replied to TheAbsoluteSt81's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I agree with this, I think a lot of obsession with dual molding or arm printing gets a little over the top. I think at times it's really nice, like in the case of Boba Fett with printed arms and legs, but there are other times when it's just printing for the sake of printing. I don't think we need every single fold in the fabric represented. If it's a character that has very distinct armor or whatever, by all means, print it, but otherwise, it just seems like too much. Like, take the last two MBS sets for example. People want Greedo to have arm printing. That one I agree with because he had a distinct jacket sleeve print that would look nice. However, people also wanted more arm printing or dual molded legs for every other character when it's just not as necessary. Dual molded legs on Han might be nice but the figure isn't terrible without them. Similarly, with Cloud City or even the Star Destroyer, I saw some people wanting dual molded legs on Vader or the Imperial Officers, which is just unnecessary. With Vader, you wouldn't even be able to tell, it's black boots on black legs, how are they going to make that more detailed (honestly the leg printing on that figure is unnecessary to me as well, it's fine but it's just printing for the sake of printing to me)? With the Imperial Officers (and most figures, for that matter) I feel like if the character doesn't have distinct footwear, having dual molded legs just makes it look off, especially if you've got a stark contrast between gray and then suddenly black on the lower half of the legs. With Han in Cloud City, it's fine because it's dark brown and black, plus the boots are noticeable in the movie. With Imperial Officers, I have no idea what footwear they have on and I don't think it's distinct enough to warrant a dual mold.- 127 replies

Potential add-ons within the next year or so to the Cantina: Dewback Patrol (similar to the $30 battle packs) - Includes 2x Sandtrooper (one with orange pauldron, one with black), a Dewback with saddle and some sort of Mos Eisley scenery build, maybe a vaporator and small street scene, like the little Jawa shop we're getting. Minifigures are BoShek, a Duros, and two of Snaggletooth, Elis Helrot, Dannik Jerriko, Mutfak (probably not getting a new mold in a small set like that but who knows), Djas Puhr, or some other humanoid alien. $29.99 Ironically enough, the only other set I can see fitting this is Luke's Landspeeder, but I doubt we'd get another one since the most recent one hasn't retired yet. Luke's Landspeeder - Includes Luke, Ben, C-3PO, R2-D2, a Sandtrooper, floating security droid, and some other cantina alien, maybe a Duros or something. $29.99 due to inflation and extra figures.

Not the one who originally said that, but if I may hazard a guess, I think they might mean that anyone who's dropping $350 on a toy (as strong as we feel about LSW or LEGO in general, that's what it is at the end of the day) of the cantina probably is from the generation that grew up largely on the OT era of movies. I don't really see as many people from the younger generation buying this, just because either they're younger and don't have $350 worth of disposable income at the ready, or they're more interested in non-OT stuff. I think if you were to poll Star Wars AFOLs, more of them would tend to favor the OT or be of the generation that grew up on the OT, but that's just a guess on my part based on what I see online. -

That was one that I think they could've gotten away with including without a new head mold, too. His head is more humanoid than, say, Ponda Baba, to where they could probably get away with printing it on a standard head and it not looking horrible. That said, on the subject of the Kenner figures, I would never, ever, ever complain about anything LEGO ever did for the rest of my life if there was some sort of promo/GWP minifigure based on one of the original Kenner figures, either the Hammerhead, Greedo with lime green jacket or Walrus Man with all of the colors. Doubt that would ever happen, but I can dream... Now that we've got better box pics, I do agree that the black background isn't working as well as it does for some sets. The helmets or whatever are fine because that's the only focal point of the set, there's no background needed. Compare this box to, say, Cloud City's box, where you've got the orange and pink clouds in the background, I think it just makes the set pop so much more. Then you've got the black stripes on the top and bottom to designate is as something beyond just the normal system sets. If I was good at photoshop I'd mock this one up with a Tatooine background just to see if it makes it look a bit more attractive. -

I agree totally here. I mean, I know I'm going to be able to find the sets eventually, but it's getting a bit ridiculous how much these are being hoarded, specifically the AAT or 501st. Legitimately every Target, Walmart, and Kohl's within a 30 mile radius is sold out and has been for close to a month now.- 127 replies

LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That could very well be true, I'm legitimately not sure. LEGO seems to have more offerings out than Hasbro figures, since most of Hasbro's stuff these days seems to be more collector-focused (the Vintage collection is like $13 per figure and Black Series is roughly $20. I very, very casually will check the figures, though I almost never buy, and I've noticed that stores seem to get one or two cases in at a time, sell out fairly quickly of the popular figures, and then don't really get much in for a little while), and gets re-stocked constantly, there isn't necessarily that rarity that you find in a lot of other collecting niches, it's more rarity once the set retires, whereas other collectibles are rarer to track down initially. Although, if you count Funko Pops as action figures, those seem to be all the rage these days. I agree though, I think a lot of action figure collectors tend to be actually older, especially since a lot of the characters being made are really collector focused in terms of having a ton of details and accessories, or even some breakable/fragile parts. I know that they'll make some cheaper small figures, but they tend to get pushed to the back burner. Anyway, point is, both Lucasfilm and LEGO would be pretty crazy to not renew that licensing, even if Harry Potter may have surpassed it at the moment, I would definitely think it's a safe bet that it's their most successful licensing partnership in terms of actual money made by quite a bit. They've built something that managed to rival what was basically 25 years of the most successful licensing/merchandising effort of all time with Star Wars figures. -
Unpopular Opinions related to Lego Star Wars
Kit Figsto replied to TheAbsoluteSt81's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Here's another one of mine - most of the popular prequel/CW sets are extremely overrated and don't hold up that well compared to current stuff. The Gunship and AT-TE are fine, but the 2013 Gunship and AT-TE were better in my opinion. The AT-OT and dropship really doesn't look that good to me, it's basically the AT-TE without a roof, though the dropship looks nice but isn't worth several hundreds of dollars in my opinion. The Venator's proportions are way off to me, and I feel like most of the Imperial Star Destroyers had a much more interesting/playable interior. I'd love a Venator, but this one just doesn't do the ship justice in my opinion. The 501st set is a nice minifigure pack and I'm glad that people like it, but I see people calling it one of the best SW sets ever, even though both of the vehicles honestly don't look that good. The BARC is passable, but the AT-RT, in terms of scale, is absurd. I really feel like the reason these sets get so much attention and have such a high secondary value is because they've only been made once, so it's partially on LEGO for not making more of these sets when the demand is clearly there, but I truly don't see the appeal of some of these sets other than being one-off examples of a model, especially when it's several hundreds of dollars for a lot of them. For that price, I'd rather get 2003 Cloud City (which, checking prices of now, has gone up way more than I thought, I remember when it was $700-800 for a new copy and now it looks like a solid used version is more than that).- 127 replies

Purely anecdotal, but at least in my neck of the woods, these seem to be selling really well. I've seen the Stormtrooper on shelves a few places, only seen Fett once, haven't seen the TIE pilot at all. There's so much potential, Vader and a biker scout seem logical next, I'm not sure if the typical prequel fan demographic is as into the display pieces, but they could at least do a Phase I or Phase II clone, I'm not sure if a Snowtrooper is doable just because they have that kind of cowl thing that makes it a bit larger than a normal helmet, but I'm curious to see if this continues, because I think it has potential. My region as a whole actually seems to buy a lot of anything remotely cool, though. Mando Battle Packs are still scarce, haven't even caught a whiff of the AAT or 501st, the Helmets have been selling well, haven't seen the AT-AT either... At this point I feel like LEGO and Star Wars are almost synonymous. There's a lot of overlap between fans of both, and now we're at a point where people have grown up having licensed LEGO their entire life, where a lot of these people didn't grow up with Star Wars action figures, but SW minifigures. Behind the Hasbro toys, I think LEGO SW stuff is probably the second most popular among either people who collect or just casually buy the SW stuff. -

The bar looks really good, the booths, like people are saying, seem to just be more detailed/fleshed out versions of the 2014 version. I would like to see better pictures of the band stage and the corner booth, as well as the entrance area, since they're all not fully shown. One of my biggest "fears" was that the inside would look way too empty in terms of figure population, but it looks like it actually isn't horrible. Not as packed as in the movie, obviously, but not bad by any means. -

Just to add to what some others have said, if you specifically want the "playset" version (ie minifigure scale), there's not a 100% guarantee that the UCS version will be as such. The model that we do have is pretty much already minifigure scale, and that was a $120-150 price point, so a lot of people (myself included) have been guessing that, if they follow the trend of other UCS ships and make it $200-250, they can't really scale it up without making it a larger-than-minifigure-scale model, similar to the A-Wing or Snowspeeder. So if you do want one compatible with figures, that might be your best bet anyway. -

It could be a case of "throw poodoo at the wall and hope it sticks" in action. It's pretty much the only other thing from S1 of Mando that you could say "Yeah, that makes perfect sense for a set" without any "Well, they've never done anything like that..." or "Well, there's no much playability there..." issues. If we get it, then whoever floated the leak gets to claim credibility, even if it was just a guess, and if we don't get it, then the guy didn't have credibility in the first place, so he doesn't risk a reputation. Not saying it's false, but like you said, if there isn't even a set number associated, that seems a little odd, since most of the legit leakers tend to say "These are the set numbers that are coming, we have info on these, we don't on these" type of thing. I agree that the set makes sense, but given how confirmed-credible people are talking, seems unlikely. As far as new molds go, yeah, I think so. Obviously people like Beru or other human background characters, but I think as far as aliens, we've gotten most of the big ones (bounty hunters, Greedo, Jabba, Rancor, Bib Fortuna, etc)
