  1. Yep, that pretty much sums it up. Sets designed for a souvenir kiosk at the airport. I have every architecture set. But, probably won’t have any more.
  2. Will it be available with a tow truck and several dozen flat tiles you can place underneath it to represent all of the various fluid leaks?
  3. Ordered all three FLW sets available from Atom Bricks. I enjoy building and the subject matter is more important to me than exclusively collecting one brand. I have all the Lego architecture sets, but that’s ended with the announcement of a boring large White house and the continuing release of what has come to define the architecture series.....skyline sets that look like they belong in a souvenir kiosk at the airport.
  4. Thanks for the info. A welcome development. I suppose there are those whose first priority is Lego and then there are those of us whose first priority is interesting builds, regardless of the name on the box.
  5. The previous post is the perfect review of 10270. Thanks for being able to express it in a clear, coherent manner.....something I was struggling with. But, you nailed it. Thanks.
  6. Okay, I’ve often wondered what would make me abandon my OCD, completist attitude towards the architecture series. I chased down Marina Bay Sands at an inflated price from an eBay seller in Japan. Well, I’m not wasting my time and money chasing down 21055. I’ll probably skip 21054, too. I’m disappointed in a White House rehash when there are so many other buildings than would be a better choice for a large, new release. You can start with one of the many Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. The Chrysler building. The Biltmore in Asheville, NC. The Gateway Arch in St Louis. Some of you know me and realize there’s never been a place for mini-figs in my modular collection/display. They’re all dismembered in a large plastic bag. I may buy 21054, assemble a few hundred mini-figs with little protest signs in their hands and surround 21054 with them. Then again, I may not. Disappointing.
  7. I think the bookstore provides a nice diversity of size in the overall modular city. I’ve come to the conclusion that while it’s not too small for my modular city, it is too small to be the annual modular release. It would have been a nice mid-year surprise as opposed to being our annual release. It was reasonable to expect something more significant (larger, grander) for the annual release than what we got. While I’ve expanded BB, GE and TH, I’ll probably leave bookstore as is. I suppose some years are better than others.
  8. Absolutely right. I’m guilty and admitted that much in a Lego review on their website. One other reason I buy extra sets is when I think the size of a building doesn’t match its stated purpose. I expanded the BB to 64 wide and added a story. The TH was expanded to 96 wide with an added story. The PR was left ‘as is’. I haven’t felt a need to do that with Lepin sets as most of them I like are single purpose buildings that have the presence of a Grand Emporium or Palace Cinema.
  9. Nice of Lego to honor Manchester’s second best team.
  10. This is totally subjective by the very nature of my comments. I can say they ‘mailed it in’ because I can look at the picture and thumb through the instructions and see it doesn’t have any place in my city. I’m not part of the ‘everything that Lego does is awesome’ cult. My comments are purely my opinion. I make no claims they are based in ‘fact’. Not trying to be objective, just opinionated. Just stating preferences. No need for the usual knee jerk reaction of defending whatever Lego produces. OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTIVE CLAIMS An objective claim is a statement about a factual matter-one that can be proved true or false. For factual matters there exist widely recognized criteria and methods to determine whether a claim is true or false. A subjective claim, on the other hand, is not a factual matter; it is an expression of belief, opinion, or personal preference. A subjective claim cannot be proved right or wrong by any generally accepted criteria Okay, so I took the advice from some and built the cute little house. Granted, it has some interesting construction techniques that I haven’t seen on other modulars. However, we only get one modular building a year. I expect something with a lot more impact. This would have been okay as a ‘mid-year’ bonus modular. But the bookstore and the under sized house are not what I expect for the annual main release. The bookstore has been done better by an AFOL (and, subsequently, Lepin) and the house is, well, extremely undersized. I’m wanting a single themed 2,500-3,000 piece annual release that has a more substantial presence in a modular city.

  13. I built the Bookstore today. I’m not building the residential side as it’s too small for my liking and I have better residential MOCs. Having built all modulars, the Bookstore building is my favorite since Palace Cinema. No stupid stories about cookies and no laundry attached to a bank. However, there is a certain feeling that the designers took a year off. I enjoyed the Bookstore build and appreciated techniques and parts used to create the face of the Bookstore. With that said, I could use a nice 3,000 piece single themed building. Like the Barnes Noble/Starbucks that wasn’t produced by Lego ideas. Or some of the 3,000-4,000 piece sets that are offered by other manufacturers. The apartment side of 10270 makes me think, as the saying goes, they ‘mailed it in’ and didn’t put in much effort into that side of 10270 other than selecting some unusual colors.
  14. Inyongbricks. It’s great.
  15. Limit 2, ordered 2. Also ordered new architecture sets. Busy building AS alternative build from rebrickable. That’s a fun challenge.
  16. Enough of the skylines already. Or establish them as a separate theme. And, please, no more monuments from Washington DC. There are buildings of architectural significance out there that would be great subject matter. The Chrysler building in NYC, for one. The Kremlin. Or, go to any major european city and you’ll see plenty of subject matter. Castles. Downton Abbey. Unless they’re moved to a separate theme and used as inventory at airport souvenir shops, I personally don’t see any value in the city skylines.
  17. From what I understand, the instructions are for sale. With that said, some in the past have made their designs available to the public with out any of the protections usually associated with ‘intellectual property’. However, the available protections often don’t stop the use of ideas by others. Protection is one thing, enforcement is another. Bottom line: if you’re simply a small designer, making your design products available to the general public usually means they’re subject to being hijacked by a commercial interest. Shouldn’t be that way, but it is. You probably don’t have the funds to sue the party who absconded with your design. Especially in a Chinese court.
  18. Absolutely 100% correct. But, there are consequences to truthfulness. ?
  19. Outstanding. Simply outstanding. Thanks!
  20. That’s really unfortunate. I’m on the Audiworld forum and we discuss Mercedes, BMW, Tesla. However, I’m sure the OP can find other places to discuss his question and find what he needs. I’ll respect the rules of the forum and leave it at that.
  21. I’m waiting for Lego to do it for me. I mostly build apartments/houses and expand existing modulars.
  22. Agreed. I don’t know anything about buses. Find me one that goes from 0-60 as quickly as my S series Audi, and I’ll give it a try.
  23. Wow! A DMV modular would be great! I could take the hundreds of lonely, living in a plastic bag mini-figs and line them up around the building waiting...waiting...and waiting. A Lego printed clock piece would be great as the hands never move. BTW, I only collect modulars. City sets are irrelevant to me. I’m still waiting for a police station, hospital or school. Maybe next year? Or, will I have to spend a grand on one of the eBay MOCs?
  24. I build residential (MOCs that is) only buildings. As far as mini figs having a place to live, mine are mostly dismembered and in a plastic bag. I just want some full on residential buildings and not one apartment in a multi-use building. But, I’ll build them myself. I don’t want, nor do I expect or anticipate, Lego doing an all residential modular when there is better subject matter, especially since we only get one modular a year. I prefer the old single theme buildings and prefer that an apartment not be included in a commercial establishment. I know they exist in real life, but not in my MOCs. Lego marketing, not Lego sales, probably feels modulars are going to be purchased regardless of the date of issue and they (the modulars) don’t need a Christmas push. Plus, they provide a nice post holiday revenue boost. While, as an adult, I have received Lego as a gift, Lego doesn’t need to dump what’s primarily an adult product (a new modular) into the Christmas mix. If, as an adult, you want the new modular for Christmas, maybe your Santa can give you a gift certificate and you can pick it up a week later. Been there, done that. Holiday wishes to all.
  25. Some folks are looking for more residential style buildings. I think Lego mostly leaves it to us to create those for our cities. I now have in the neighborhood of a dozen MOC residential buildings. Many using the PS instructions as the template. I can’t tell you how many PS I bought, but many to achieve my goal of more residential type buildings. Now, the Bookshop will also be useful as a template to jump start residential type buildings.
