  1. I actually like the colors. Every city needs a rainbow row. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Row
  2. Two sets will be purchased and another floor added to each side.
  3. I like it. If for no other reason than it’s a good parts source and template for building additional residential structures. I’ve built over a dozen using Pet Shop parts and plans. Looks like after the DD and last years offering, the designers took a more proven and safer route in this years design. Which is fine. It’s like a nice little building that will expand the modular city without making a huge statement. To me, it makes the DD look even more out of place in my modular line-up.
  4. If I entered the lego modular hobby now, I think 10 sets are retired and I’d have to sell a kidney to afford all of them. One other option would be for lego to use pick-a-brick. One click and they would sell you all of the pieces required for a retired set. I know, I know....some pieces are no longer made. You’d be on your own for those. Substitute or buy retired pieces in the secondary market. Instructions for retired modulars are easily found on the Lego website or through a google search. click
  5. Many of the comments point to an interesting question. At what point does a set that was retired many years ago become largely irrelevant to future planning by lego? The first modular says ‘hotel’ on the front of the building. But, it was a more basic product lacking interior detail. Should/could/ there be a newer and more complete hotel since the 2007 hotel (Corner Cafe) was retired long ago, lacks design features of current modulars and many, many new collectors have entered the hobby since modulars began and after many modulars were retired. I entered the hobby after the first three modulars were retired. Fortunately, I’ve managed to secure complete versions of the sets I missed. But what about someone who enters the hobby now and doesn’t have many of the earlier buildings? This isn’t about hotels as the subject of a set. That was just an example. Nor is it supposed to be relevant to new releases of the same Star Wars object. The X-wing is the X-wing. Some minor changes in new releases, but the ‘look’ is essentially identical. It’s about bringing back any former building theme after it’s been retired. Not a remake of an old set. But a totally new hotel, restaurant, department store or whatever. Just asking the question.
  6. But would you roll with all black bricks and no windows?
  7. Uh, that’s why I said ‘historical reference’. Again, all release dates are easily found on the internet. And, apparently, January 1 is the launch date for modulars even though it hasn’t always been that way. For example, PC had a March release date. Again, that’s just a looking back reference not a theory or implication that any date in the future will be any date other than January 1st. It’s probably a good date for Lego. A nice sales boost after the Christmas holiday sales are over.
  8. Lego also knows there are ‘completists’ like me who would buy the next modular if it has a triangular baseplate and was all black bricks with no windows. Why? It’s a lego modular. While frequently being a critic of lego and not being a ‘lego or nothing cultist’, I’m clearly addicted to the modular building series. Just as a historical reference, while this new offering will be released (most probably) in January, some of the earlier models had March (and other months) release dates. Wikipedia shows the release date for most modulars. Just offered as a historical reference, not implying your wait will be longer than expected. Best wishes to all and I hope the new modular lives up to your expectations.
  9. I spend time between new modular releases building residential units. Many based on the design of the PS residential unit. Some on 16 wides and some on 32 wides. Some designs just pulled out of the air with little though other than ‘what parts are in the inventory bin.’ I miss PS as it provided so many resources needed for a residential build.
  10. Some adults, like me, would never consider buying a ‘City’ set. The modular series was supposed to be primarily for the adult collector market. True, modulars are still toys, but not to the same degree as the City sets. So, City could have multiple police stations and it would be totally irrelevant to me. A modular police station would be welcomed. After all, we have a fire station. My interest in Lego is in the architecture series and to a lesser degree modulars. Lego has ‘dumbed down’ the modular series with too much emphasis on playability and interior detail. I understand that from a marketing stand point. But interior detail, playability and mini-fig faces are largely irrelevant to me.
  11. Hopefully, it’s not a bookstore. Lego had their shot at a bookstore and passed... https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/80215-moc-barnes-noble-starbucks-store/ I actually built this after seeing it on the Ideas website. The actual creator is to be complimented for his skill and design abilities. It’s the most impressive modular building anywhere. High piece count, I know, I know. But it could have been trimmed back. The interior is extremely detailed. Feel free to pick it apart and come up with dozens of reasons why it wouldn’t be a great modular. I built it and it’s the center piece of my modular city. And I have all the lego modulars.
