Lego City 2021 Rumours, information and discussion
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Powered by Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I don't think you're alone in that opinion. A lot of AFOLs, TFOLs and KFOLs that I have met don't seem to care for those either. My hope is that those are abandoned in 2021. I would prefer them just like you. I agree whole heartily with this. I also miss the minimovies with unnamed generic people. -

Excuse my bad art skills, but I'm not a very good drawer. But I did this in the paint program. Its a labelled torso for cargo workers in Lego City. Perhaps this is something Lego could do for them instead of them having to share torsos with construction workers/maintenance people. Instead, people who work at the cargo terminal can wear these jackets. I made it gender neutral so that it can fit both male and female minifigures. Thought I'd do the colors to match the vehicles. -

Oooooh! That does sound likely. Of so, I'm definately excited to see how that would pan out. My assumption is that they keep the show as a marketing tool as it just might be cheaper to make it into a TV show instead of doing mini movies. Though I actually like the mini movies better. I guess they do named characters because they want to make it more like Friends and Ninjago, both of which have all their characters named. As for getting rid of subthemes, I kinda agree with that business move. It gives the designers more creative freedom instead of being obligated to stick to one system year after year. That and the subtheme system did encite controversy as fans and customers alike began to wise up in 2018 when I began to see more and more comments saying "How come these jobs get dedicated subthemes and those don't?". At least with the subtheme free system, no one wins but everyone is happy. Whoever came up with that idea at Lego gets my respect. -

Yeah! I think I'm going to stay using the road baseplates. -

I dunno. They did put the Harbor and coast Guard bases back to back in 2007 and 2008. -

Looks like it. I don't think the subtheme system exists anymore - which is actually a good thing. -

These do seem interesting. Especially the fact that the 2021 police sets don't seem to be part of any dedicated setting, but rather just random releases that are extensions to this year's police wave. This list actually took me by surprise. I knew City was gonna be changed for the better. But I didn't know it would be THIS good. In my opinion, this new system of releasing City sets is much better than the one they used during the 2010s. -

From what my informant told me, they're changing up City for the better. One of these is abandoning subthemes and making City just City with no particular categories. These sets on this list are just random releases. This shocked me as it's usually a wave that takes place out of the city following classic police year; i.e. Forest Police, Swamp Police and Mountain Police. However police and fire related sets do sell. So they're still going to make them every year. Just not with a dedicated setting in mind. They're just gonna be random. -

I'm wondering what the City Center will look like. Two mega sets back to back? The 2021 wave of City might be just what we needed to let us know that the theme was still in good hands. -

Well they say one of the trucks will be a 4+ set. But I don't know for sure.....and I think I've seen some.of your fire engine MOCs here. Those are nice! I think I'll pass on these ones too. I've kinda grown a fondness for the ones from 2019. Unless the 2021 fire engines are better, I'm deeming the 2019 ones the best since 2013. I think it would be a second for City as we did get something like that back in 2012. -

Is 5 in total a lot? Especially when they only come out one time every other year. I think it should happen and I think it would happen if enough people ask for a bus or two this year for City. My informant said that City will be changed for the better in 2021. So we may see some improvements and some add ons. I look on the brightside instead of tempering. -

Hmm.....you're right. Nothing really interesting. Crooks Hideout Raid, Road Work Truck, Beach Rescue ATV, Tractor and Race Buggy Transport. As for sports cars and fire helicopters, we get enough of those. The only one that really sparks my interest is prolly the airshow jet transport. -

I'm not going to even beat around the bush though. The idea of killing off road baseplates for City is even worse than named characters. This is also going to mess with their finances as road baseplates have been an amazing seller since the days of classic town. -

I totally agree! This'll definitely be a huge blow to Lego's finances. Road baseplates have been a great seller since before the dark ages. -

Why do I have the feeling that the 2021 wave of City will be even more of a disappointment than 2020? -

The old baseplates will always be better than these new ones. I'm about to go road baseplate shopping. -

Old City commercials were the best. That was the golden age there. -
