LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
I'm hoping for two other subthemes this coming summer. Harbor and Cargo. For this year, I hope the town subtheme focuses primarily on playable buildings like the police station and that bank building in the monster truck heist set. Lego has a lot of opportunities with that new magnet piece. I see three subthemes making a comeback because of that magnet: Construction, Harbour, Farm and Cargo. -

I hope the In/Out subtheme is another theme that has to do with City life. Like the harbor or cargo subtheme. For this one year, I'd hope its not an explorers theme. Not that I hate them, but I would like to see one year where they focus only on action within the city limits. -

You never know. This could be the start of a Lego City that we have never seen before. City's fanbase has grown dramatically since 2009. This could be a Lego City that combines town planning and child attracting action into one place. Considering how many buildings an civilian vehicles we will actually be getting in 2020, that actually looks like its going to be that way. -

I would like to look on the bright side and say that 2020 may be a testing ground for a brand new version of Lego City for the 2020s decade. I hope the City TV series continues past 20 episodes and lasts for a few seasons. That way, there will be a chance to put more new things that we've never seen in City before. Cartoons, while expensive, are a great way to push awesome toys. -

LOL! No one is commenting. I guess everything is settled. -
Is this supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing?

Political correctness and Lego
Driver Brandon Grumman replied to astral brick's topic in General LEGO Discussion
But truthfully speaking, can we really say that Lego has held up to that belief of not having war related themes of good versus evil? I mean, we did have Knights Kingdom and Castle, which was basically war in the dark ages. Then we go to the future with Alien Conquest, which symbolizes war. Its fictional, but it still is war. Then there is the present day in City. A war between cops and crooks! No bows or arrows needed. Just banks, money and crooks in the same area. "Hate" and "Animosity" is what is actually helping Lego to survive because little boys love to battle, mostly playing the hero though sometimes being a villain. I think they should abolish that. -

Movie based themes help Lego. That's why they do them. Nothing to do with political correctness. -

It could be based on an SUV. To me, I just thought Local Motors Rally Fighter when I first looked at it. -

Better yet, I'm going to say that fir the entire racing theme for this year. I thought that this was going to be using generic vehicles. But no. They make nods to the automotive industry in the real world. Smart Car, Caterham 7, Ford Super Duty Tow Truck and Honda Civic hatch from 60258 Volkswagen T2 and Local Motors Rally Fighter in 60257 The LeMans and WRC in 60256 60255 is pretty generic. So I won't count that. -

Those look more like british hot rods. As for the third pic, I stand corrected. That's definitely American. Despite the high price, I think we can both agree that City went above and beyond the call of duty with that set. Now I will officially have a proper repair shop in my town. -

I corrected myself. Like I said.....they base most of the vehicles from ones they see in Europe as a whole. -

Let me correct a mistake I made. I meant the continent of Europe as a whole. Since Lego is a European country, most of the vehicles you'd see in City look European. The buildings could count too. -

This bares a striking resemblance to most of the fire trucks that Lego has released for City. Especially the one from the Burger Bar Fire Rescue. Except for the squeezing water cannon. You can clearly tell that the 4432 Garbage Truck was influenced by one of these. 60 60154 anyone? So far...every ship I have seen built through City has looked a lot like this. I'd use more examples, but then I'd be here until January. -

I think Lego bases City sets off of what they see in Denmark, which btw, is a country where the police force is the most popular job market. -

My only issue is with some of the vehicles. I personally hope they go back to generic vehicles next year. Some of them look to similar to Speed Champions. I'll make exceptions for the race cars and the vehicles from the tuning shop though. -

I'm getting that one. I might also grab the police helicopter and the police minifigure accessory pack.
