  1. The Slytherins are wearing their school robes during the ferret scene ? Plus Draco has a distinctly different hairstyle during PoA/GoF that would be nice to get in Lego form.
  2. I’m cackling. I’ve been thinking of this for ages but I didn’t want to be the person to say it. (Would be hilarious though)
  3. Yeah, I really doubt the delayed release of FB3 will greatly effect a CMF. Merchandise sales across the board have proven that people will like Harry Potter even if there isn’t a new movie that year. I’ve been thinking for a while now that the lack of new Lego movies means both (theoretical) licensed series are free for IPs next year. You’re probably right that it’s too soon to get Disney series 3, and Harry Potter is a known quantity that has already done well as a CMF. Having Harry Potter as the 2nd CMF (after the requisite unlicensed series [not chronologically]) means that there’s theoretically only one ‘unknown quantity’ licensed series left. Much safer for Lego than two new licensed series, especially since Harry Potter did so well in its first go.
  4. Technically there was a Star Wars Christmas special, but I think most people prefer to forget that exists. The statue is the Hogwarts Architect, and it’s an actual statue seen in the movies/parks. I think its most notable appearance is in CoS, actually during the Christmas scene, where Harry and Ron hide behind it while slipping Crabbe and Goyle the potion laced cupcakes.
  5. I’m really hoping that the Harry Potter advent calendar can be a new Christmas tradition. I’d love to have a constantly growing Christmas display. Halloween really doesn’t have advent calendars, but I’d love a minifigure or xtra style accessory pack to give the Great Hall Halloween decorations. After all, we’ve got everything else we need to create the “Troll!!! Troll in the dungeons! Thought you ought to know...” scene. I think one of the advantages Harry Potter has over other licensed themes is that there are a lot of Christmas variations that already exist, so it might be awhile before they resort to ‘X as Santa’ variations. (Now that I think about it, they could easily go through all the movies’ Christmas scenes year by year - skipping PoA because they did in the movie. Polyjuice scene from CoS, expand on the Yule Ball from GoF, Christmas at Grimmauld from OotP, Christmas at the Burrow from HBP, Godrics Hollow from DH) 1. Sure looks like it 2. I’ve seen $40 stated in some places, but that could just be a guess based on the usual price of previous licensed calendars.
  6. The Hut price is probably jacked up because of Buckbeak and the light brick. The Great Hall because he was one of many new molds. The Beauxbatons Carriage because they had to do a color change and a new print for him. So it’s possible that a poly bag using his regular outfit could work. The thing that could get expensive is the motorcycle, they’d have to make an entirely new one to accommodate Hagrid’s proportions, plus a sidecar. I couldn’t see it in a poly bag unless they made it for a set first (Battle of the Seven Harrys anyone?). Maybe if it’s using preexisting pieces for Hagrid and the Motorbike, and the only new print was baby Harry, I could see a poly bag, but it would still be pushing it.
  7. True enough. Neville, the trio in the outfits from those scenes, and Voldemort are all pretty crucial, but there’s plenty of wiggle room for the rest. But now that I’ve made myself think about it I really want a ‘Not my Daughter You B*tch’ minifigure pack with Bellatrix, Molly and Ginny.
  8. Yeah, one big section or two medium sized sections would work to give us a battle area. The aqueduct courtyard and grand staircase have some pretty significant scene if I recall (plus the great hall of course), but the big thing is getting all the characters you need. You’ve obviously got the Trio, Neville, Luna, Ginny, Fred and George, Arthur, Molly, Tonks, Lupin, Kingsley, McGonnagal, Alberforth, several other Hogwarts professors and students, Voldemort, Bellatrix, the three Malfoys, Greyback, the Carrows and a whole host of other Death Eaters and dementors. Honestly, if there’s any event that needs a minifigure pack or two added on to flesh it out it’s the final battle.
  9. Yeah, you could easily make a whole wave of the battle of Hogwarts alone. (Personally, I hope they keep it to one or two sets, with just one being the $100 or more price point. The final battle is important, but there are so many other great events from DH that I’d love to see made into Lego.)
  10. True, but I don’t think the DH wave is going to have problems with the $60-80 price range that Hagrid’s Hut falls into. There’s the potential for Privet Drive and Burrow sets, as well as the Rookery, Malfoy Manor and the Gringott’s Dragon Escape. Things on the scale of this wave’s First Task or Knight Bus sets though? Harder to think of.
  11. Yeah, I’d love a Shell Cottage set, but the only thing it really has going for it right now is that I can’t think of many middle sized sets for the DH movies (bigs sets yes, and a few little ones, but medium sized ones in the $30-50 range not so much). The thing about the theoretical DH sets is that the minifigure line ups tend to rack up quickly because you need Death Eaters to fight your protagonists in the battles, so Shell Cottage has the size advantage of not being a battle.
  12. I have to disagree on this. Grimmauld place is far more iconically connected to the 5th movie/book, it’s featured in far more scenes in that movie than Deathly Hallows part one - and by extension, shows more details of the main rooms (DH1 doesn’t really show the Black family tapestry, which is one of the parts of the building I’m most interested in). Also, a DH1 Grimmauld place wouldn’t be able to include Sirius, and I can’t imagine anyone at Lego being eager to try and market Sirius’ house without him included - not to mention that it could also include new characters like Tonks, Kingsley and Kreacher (and perhaps an update for Mrs. Weasley). On the other hand - a DH1 based Privet Drive has all the same potential for new minifigures as an OotP one, Tonks and Kingsley are there after all, as well as several others that didn’t appear in OotP, like Hagrid, Ron, Hermione and several Death Eaters. My ideal line up for a DH Privet Drive would be Tonks and polyjuice!Ron (on brooms), Kingsley and polyjuice!Hermione (with a thestral), Hagrid and Harry (with a new motorcycle and sidecar), and a couple of Death Eaters. I’d also prefer a DH1 Burrow, because I think it would be more interesting to get a wedding rather than an exact remake of the 2010 set (which I personally believe has held up better than any of the other sets from the final waves), but that’s another story.
  13. They might push back the FB sets we would have gotten next year, since the movie release has been pushed back a year . I’m not too happy about it but it would make sense. I do hope that when we do get more FB sets they’ll follow the method they used last year - i.e. a bigger more elaborate set from the previous movie and a smaller set based off something seen in the new trailer. Lego sets based off movie IPs are at their weakest when they can’t be screen accurate after all. As for the Harry Potter set timeline, yours seems about right. Although we could get something interesting in 2021 since it’s the 20th anniversary of the 1st movie/the first Lego sets. It would theoretically be a good way to advertise a Diagon Alley D2C, and they put out a special anniversary wave for Star Wars this year (although while I’d hope that Harry Potter will have proven popular enough for multiple waves a year by then, the Star Wars anniversary sets have gotten a lackluster reception from what I’ve heard, so Lego might not go for that again). I think so long as Harry Potter proves to be a strong seller we shouldn’t be surprised if Lego starts ‘filling in the gaps ‘ starting in 2022.
  14. As far as specific leg heights go - I think judging based off the first wave of sets is a little dicey, since the mid legs weren’t phased in yet. Luna has mid legs in the cmf, which depicts her in HBP (her 5th year), Cho also has mid legs and is a 5th year in her first appearance, Cedric is shown across the board as having full sized legs, and he’s a 17 year old 6th year. Logically, from what we’ve seen so far years 1-2 are short legs, 3-5 are mid legs, and 6-7 are full legs. That being said, the main trio had short legs in the first wave and mid legs in this wave, so it’s possible that Lego will just decide on one or the other for next wave, so they don’t have some Harrys with mid legs and some with full legs in the same wave.
  15. True enough, I suspect that Lego just doesn’t want to make it its own set because canonically speaking in the movies the headmaster’s office is in the little triple turret offshoot from the big main staircase tower, and that’s a little tricky to make as a set. It’s easier to stick it wherever they have room in another set. (That said I wouldn’t mind if they decided to do a bespoke Dumbledore’s office set with that spiraling griffin staircase)
  16. So I’ve been thinking about the Astronomy Tower, and I’ve come to the conclusion that to make something that tall and skinny it really needs to have a much wider footprint on the base so it’s stable. This is making me like the idea of a OotP Astronomy Tower (to go with the GoF Clocktower) even more, since a wider base would be perfect for a room of requirement with a corridor to the side, allowing for a wall with a play feature in between. Im also wondering how workable it would be to spilt the Astronomy Tower into two sets (an upper part that can stand on its own but can also be placed on a lower part to obtain the proper hight) so that Lego could produce a larger portion of the castle without any of the standard sets going over the $100 price point.
  17. I’m guessing it’s there because of the scene where Harry uses the pensieve for the first time in GoF. Hence why it’s above the prefects’ bathroom, while the hospital wing and defense classroom are paired together in the larger section of the clocktower - since both those rooms are associated with PoA. I understand why they wouldn’t want to do it as it’s own set again, the 2002 set was basically half filler.
  18. I mean, Lockhart hasn’t appeared yet at all, and is likely only going to appear in the Chamber of Secrets if he turns up anywhere else. The twins and goblins are likely to be pretty rare as well (although I wouldn’t be totally surprised if Gringott’s came separately from the rest of the Alley to do the iconic scene from DH2). And given that we’ve gotten the trolley lady and Susan Bones I wouldn’t rule out some generic Diagon Alley shoppers (some of those outfits are pretty cool) or even the photographer from the Daily Prophet.
  19. Yes, and the plot of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets quite literally revolves around the Chamber of Secrets, but they still skipped over doing that set. I’m just saying that importance to plot isn’t the deciding factor. Lego decides what to make sets on based off their budget/projected demand - we didn’t get the Forbidden Corridor or Chamber of Secrets because there wasn’t the budget for the new molds they would have required the first year of the reboot, we didn’t get the second task this year for similar reasons, and we didn’t get the Shrieking Shack because there wouldn’t have had any exclusive minifigures in what would have been a large set. If they don’t think the set will be profitable, they’ll pass it over. Ultimately, I think the Ministry Battle would either be confined to the courtroom with a boring build, or big enough to be competing for a price point slot with some much more iconic scenes. (On the other hand the locket destruction scene is a nice little 15-20$ price point set that probably won’t have much competition). I wouldn’t put my money on it coming out in 2021, but if the theme continues on to fill in the gaps...
  20. I mean, it’s not like Infinity War or Endgame - two out of the six/seven horocruxes aren’t even destroyed in Deathly Hallows, and one is never even destroyed on screen (in the books or in the movies). So there’s no need to include the acquisition or destruction of each for some sense of completion. Acting like the sets are somehow required to portray every single plot point of the movie’s narrative is a little ridiculous, especially considering that Lego has already skipped over some significant scenes. (This wave they didn’t include the Shrieking Shack, where we found out about Sirius and Lupin’s friendship. That doesn’t mean Lego is ‘pretending it doesn’t exist,’ it means that Lego had a limited budget this wave and they decided the Shrieking Shack wouldn’t sell as well.) Plus, going off play potential - repetitive circular seats with yet another Umbridge variation < all three main characters riding a Dragon busting out of Gringott’s with Hermione polyjuiced as Bellatrix. It’s silly to act like they’re the same thing just because both happened to acquire a horocrux. It also bears pointing out that both the Slytherin locket and Ravenclaw diadem were printed on for the founder minifigures. I could see the unworn locket being printed on a clear tile for, say, the horocrux cave from HBP or the locket’s destruction from DH1, but a scene where someone is wearing in and it’s taken off, like the courtroom scene? Might not work. (Speaking of the locket destruction scene, if they simply had to make a scene with the locket from DH1 that’s the one I’d go with)
  21. I wouldn’t say the DH trial is anywhere close to certain, after all the DH wave will theoretically contain the last two movies, so you’ve got the Escape from Privet Drive and the Burrow (it the don’t get covered next wave), the Rookery, Malfoy Manor, Shell Cottage, the Gringott’s Heist (and that better be a certainty because dragons are awesome), the Hog’s Head and the entire Battle of Hogwarts. Compared to all that I’d say the relatively short scene at the ministry is pretty low priority - if they do any ministry scenes at all it will be for OotP (and I’m still not convinced they’ll do that with only half a wave to work and some far more compelling choices). I agree with you on not needing them to make every variation of Umbridge though. She was only in two movies (and had a very minor part in the second). The bricktober pack and whatever OotP sets she appears in will be more than enough representation for her. (Save the CMF slots for characters we might not get anywhere else).
  22. Yes, and they notably played it ridiculously safe by waiting until the second movie in the arc was coming out to do sets. I can’t really blame them though, they’re hardly the only company that underestimated just how marketable Harry Potter still was. (I mean there weren’t plush nifflers available until nearly a year after the first movie came out. Imagine how much potential money they lost by not taking advantage of the Holiday season the movie was showing in.) I’m hoping all the cooperate executives now realize that Harry Potter is like Star Wars, in that there doesn’t need to be a movie coming out for us to be excited about it.
  23. Truly exclusive minifigures don’t seem to be all that common in the current polybags. I agree that Rita Skeeter seems a good choice to give us with this wave, but we might need to wait for a different type of promo (or a cmf) for her.
  24. Honestly this is basically what I’ve been thinking all along. It was well designed random filler, but it was still just there to up the price point.
  25. There was a Q and A with a set designer who confirmed the theme was continuing before any (real) set lists leaked. Not exactly a regular source, but if any similar opportunities crop up the Harry Potter fans can take advantage of them. It’s also possible that Lego will find a way to announce it (the Q and A was done through the official Instagram).
