Hello guys, In this topic i want to show you the miniature gbc modules. Many of you might know the gbc miniloops built by various people. but these are just a single module in an infinite loop. What about mini gbc's with modules that follow their own standart? I have created one: as you can see all of my modules have shared power inputted into the bottom middle. the desicion to put the connector here was mainly influenced by the fact that you can easily make a crank for a stepper module by using common parts. here is the first batch of modules: first of all the simple and classic ball bin size stepper: next up is a simple stepper module: and finally a sweeper module: here is a scale comparison: to the left is my mini gbc ball bin and to the right is a "regular" ball bin. hope you like my models!

[WIP] Lego monorails. [Custom Rail Systems (CRS)]
XG BC replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Train Tech
My newest monorail creation: The Inuyama Rhine park monorail! Before I get started on the model some quick history/facts about the prototype: It was the first monorail made by HITACHI corporation using the german allweg standart. HITACHI licensed the technology from the german allweg company. The 1.2 km long line opened on the 21st of March 1962 to bring visitors of the japan monkey park to the park from the train station. There where two trains with 3 wagons each which could be coupled together. they operated at 1500V DC and could reach up to 35 km/h. when the line closed in 2008 due to declining ridership numbers and the old equipment two monorail cars the end car 101 and the middle car 201 where preserved next to the former Dōbutsuen station in their original red and silver livery. Enough with the prototype now onto the model: I first started this project many years ago when i posted pictures and ideas of the first prototypes of the 4-wide system compatibe with @Masao Hidaka's track system. I liked the track system but the idea of 6-wide trains just felt too big for me. so i set about creating my 4-wide system using a powerfunctions e-motor. the first prototype was insanely slow due to its use of a worm gear to transmit power to the wheels. then another member @tkf tried my system and modified it using bevel gears. I then took his idea and made a front wheel drive motor car out of it again using the powerfunctions e-motor. things ground to a halt when I couldnt find a power source small enough to fit into a wagon while also having a good looking train. then my e-motor burned out and I kind of lost interest in monorails and the project for a couple of years. This year, while the lockdown i found myself digging through a box of legos and found the e-motor lying around. At this moment i felt i should atleast recreate the og motor car as a reminder of what once was. I did so and the dead motor car stood in my display case for a few months until i modified a servo motor with dead cable for continious rotation. i then thought what can i power with such a small motor? I glanced over to my display case and looked at the mocs. And what did I see? the monorail motor car! I immediatly went to work both digitally and physically to mod the gearing to work with the servo motor. at first i tried front wheel drive and that worked but it didnt like curves due to the servo motor being wayyy lighter then the e-motor and it had no traction. once i switched it to rear wheel drive it worked perfectly due to the next car adding its weight to improve traction. I then added a suitable power source consisting of 3 1.5V tripple a batterys housed in the battery case from a flashlight. Last step was improving the rather crude original design to look more like the prototype using curved slopes and slopes for the lights/hood. I guess you could also use curquit cubes to power the thing because those motor/battery box are pretty small aswell. Hope you like my model and the story behind it. -
LEGO 10277 + Powered Up + LEGO 88010 RC (no smart device) + lights
XG BC replied to DarioD's topic in LEGO Train Tech
i will dive into it because my dad bought an ICE starter package from piko some years ago because it was cheaper to buy that than the train alone but he already had a full layout with an opendcc z1 central station so the little booster box/ir receiver was left over. it will be what i am going to use to control it and later maybe some arduino based solution using various librarys. this is what i am going to use: cheap small and does the job. -
LEGO 10277 + Powered Up + LEGO 88010 RC (no smart device) + lights
XG BC replied to DarioD's topic in LEGO Train Tech
nice solution! will also add lights to my e69 005 that i will build when the fxtracks motor comes out. it will be fully dcc though so all the functions will work independent of each other -
i used plates because bricks are not available in 6 wide as far as i know. yea true weight is a bit of an issue but it is not like i am going to build 50 of them and make a long train. my goal is more to go with shorter mixed wagon trains so weight isnt really an issue here + i bet some 8 wide model of the cars weighs more.

yes there would be multiple ones. i dont know for shure how many though. some narrow gauge trains also had a system where a steel cable would run along the entirety of the train to facilitate braking. but after the advent of air brakes this system and the brake cabs dissapeared. some cars still ran with them though nobody was in them as far as i know and they where converted to air brakes.

aah ok

thank you!

How do you keep track of which parts you own?
XG BC replied to howitzer's topic in General LEGO Discussion
i have it in my head. it is enough for a rough estimate. usually i dont build mocs that big that i need to plan so i will just build in studio and then irl and then make changes to the model based on parts i own/will buy -

ahh ok thank you then. back then the restriction to only images wasnt there then i guess. this probably only came later with an update of the forums software right? just curious. -
try it in studio first to see if it fits.

yea true you have a point there! thanks for clarifying i still have one question: what is the attachement thing ment for if not for images? -
Hello guys! Today Like to present my wagons that i have built over the last few months. they are all based on trix- express models since these are older and pack in just the right amount of detail to be built with lego. first are some hoppers. from left to right: rhein-kies,DB brown, donau-kies and DB red. next are some tankers in various colors: a grey vtg one and a yellow shell one. the other colors i dont know the companies of. next are two boxcars: a classic brown one and a white one for things that needed to be kept cold. these have a cab for a brakeman to sit/stand in and well...brake the train. next are silowagons in various colors next is a special kind of wagon: a klappdeckelwagen. this one included lids that where able to be opened similar to a modern wheely bin. like the boxcars it also has a cab for a brakeman. and finally there are the "von haus zu haus" wagons which where basically the precursor to the modern 40ft container cars. these standardized containers where able to be transported either on these wagons or on special lorrys that brought them to the companies that needed the goods. hope you like my wagons! added a 4-axle variant of my 2-axled hopper wagons: now that it is (almost) christmas here is a christmas themed wagon based on my flatbed car with brake cab: i got inspired by the winter holiday train but wanted a more "realistic" variant. this one also has more moving features in that not only the christmas tree spins but also a christmas pyramid (click here for more info on that). each spinning motion is driven by an individual pair of wheels with bevel gears. the weels are not linked together

Another station heading for 10,000 on ideas

awesome! -
true true but the issue is still prevalent so i have quoted the admin about it anyways in the support thread about this very issue
-
what if you used an older 9v block battery box sideways? that should work!

can some of the admins/moderators take a look at this? either remove the attachement option entirely or just add a disclaimer to it like "this isnt ment to store your moc pictures". every single new user stumbles across this so something needs to be done @Hinckley! -
true true but it should state that in the file upload tbh so like add some disclaimer like "this isnt ment to store your pictures" or something like that. will contact the admins about that because every single new user (including me!) stumbles over it.
-
the picture upload thing is stupid tbh. what people do is create accounts on flickr for example and then just link their pics into here and they will be automatically embeded. this will allow you to upload more than one picture and higher quality pictures without these restrictions. I dont even know what the built in uploader is for to be honest. all that aside you guys did a really good job on the airport! looks really good!

my wish for a winter themed set would be a really nice chairlift/skilift. doesnt even have to be detachable one (that would belong to the technic category and would cost 800€ probably...) just motorized and work like the real thing. I mean i already did that myself but i would like to see an official lego version and how legos designers solve the problems asocciated with it and make it look semi-realistic and good.
-
I wasn't shure whether this fits in here or in the technic subforum. I want to present to you my working fixed grip single chairlift. It features a bottom drive station with 2 fischertechnik xs motors underneath the station to power the thing. you might ask why didnt I use a lego motor? the reaason is simple. I didnt have a lego motor that works except the train motor at the time and i had these lying around. they work great and are 9v DC motors aswell so they would work with the powerfunctions/9v/powered up system if i made an adaptor cable for it. the top station features a tensioning system using an empty 9v battery as a weight. the top station is modeled after the older style doppelmayr lifts with a sort of tensioning tower. I also built some other mocs like a ski conveyor and a small snow cannon. but without further ado here are the pics: the bottom yellow part houses the two motors. there is a liftshack and some exhaust pipes indicating the emergency drives diesel motor. it also features gates to let skiers in timed just right to the chairs (non working). this is the top drive station complete with its liftshack, a webcam on its roof, the sign for the lift and the tensioning system. incase you are wondering why the bricks dont quite line up in the model dont worry irl they do line up it is within the tolerances of the bricks. here is an accurate model of the top station. it is for a 4 person lift though so the bullwheel is a bit larger if you want to see another pic of the real life thing please visit: https://www.lift-world.info/de/lifts/3096/datas.htm as for the bottom station it doesnt really have a real life counterpart as there where many fixed grip chairlifts made with underground drive where the lower ground was visible due to the landscape. it is/was quite a generic design for a lift. the lift chair: I had to make it narrower than the design @dagupa used for his because my bullwheels are smaller than his. i used the same ones for drive and tensioning which permits the chairs to not swing into the center on the pass of the bullwheels. my drive bullwheel has a blue lego rubber band in it to permit traction with the haul rope without having to have insane amounts of tension breaking something. I also built a ski conveyor which you'd often find on beginner hills/to connect a restaurant to a slope etc. there are three variants all modeled after the conveyors produced by SUNKID. one is the open variant and two are different designs for coveres ones: and finally i made a little snow cannon by de-toyifying the one from the city snowgroomer set. i used an aircraft turbine for the cannon part and even added a little light on top. hope you like my skiing themed mocs! if anyone wants the studio files they are here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/1h0ehsvt1i40o0o/AABCVx11JgplnTeDrDPl0c1da?dl=0 there are also some other concepts and models in there. just check them out and see if you like them. they are all in german though but i am shure you'll work it out. if you want to build the lift just follow @dagupa's instructions for routing the cable and attaching the chairs: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-10233/dagupa/motorized-ski-lift/#details he also made a video of it running. mine runs similar to his:

doesnt a tvs diode only breakdown over a certain voltage? if it is a bidirectrional one that shouldnt matter as it only becomes conductive if the voltage is too high
-
@M_slug357 yes you need to as g gauge rails are further apart than l gauge ones. see here: http://l-gauge.org/wiki/index.php?title=Welcome_to_L-Gauge

i now changed the position of the windows to be all in one height like the prototype and added the link to a dropbox share where the stud.io file is located!
