  1. Thanks for sharing that sticker link - it look mightily promising as to what the sets could offer.
  2. Funny I literally just received my Brickbank order today - I smacked myself for not checking online before doing my Christmas modular order, thinking that they will retire the sets by chronological order of appearance. Wrong-o - I have gotten Parisian Restaurant and Detective’s Office instead. Had to pay through the nose for aftermarket BB and shocked by how quickly the set appreciated in value. Not impressed. Thanks for pointing me towards those two prints - I think I can find a use for them. My current build requires something specifically Art Nouveau in design, so neither this spectacular but sold out design nor the other Art Deco glass available fits the theme. I will take pics of the glass I have bought when they arrive.
  3. You’re welcome. Yeah the price is high but that’s pretty much a given when it comes to custom prints. And yes the glass seems to be amazing as well - and there were some patterns that seem to have sold out that looked absolutely spectacular. I will repost the images of those I found later as well (and will take pics of the glass I have bought when I get them too). It is so difficult to find serious printed glass that approaches the official ones in the Brickbank modular. I am on a bit of crusade to find and create minifig scaled Lego food/foodstuff for an eventual build - will keep you posted!
  4. For custom food, try the Brick Orphanage on Bricklinks - they carry custom items from TnT (which unfortunately doesn't seem to be active) https://store.bricklink.com/relhak I have ordered some items from them - I can let you know how they were after I got my hands on them.
  5. Thank you all! Will do - my problem isn't the lack of inspiration - but the sheer volume of it! And funny, I am literally 5 mins away from Oakville! That's like asking someone to pace himself at a buffet Good advice though!
  6. Pure conjecture on my part - but the way Lego positioned it in City (and the reports around how it is "inspired" by NASA) suggests to me it's more an extrapolation of other space-themed City sets (which is still great - it fills a niche that is ripe with possibilities) instead of something more bona-fide Sci-fi. I am craving the possibility of a realistic martian outpost in the future. Self-disclosure - I am old enough to have played with CS sets when they were just released (and Lego at the time is far, far more restrictive in terms of parts and techniques than what's available now) - so my perspectives about it might be different. Let's just say, Benny's cracked helmet is a very very real experience IRL.
  7. Me too - though I think that theme will fall more on the realistic (so far as Lego City realism goes) side and not space opera sci-fi that's more the purview of CS. Agree - CS is a very specific type of design style - I think evoking the spirit of it in future sets is good; replicating it wouldn't feel right other than for nostalgia.
  8. Personally I feel that using massive amount of trans for canopies is too "garish" - it need to be used, but used discriminantly. I wish there could be some use of metallic silver as accents as well.
  9. Very nice indeed - I would expand the palette and move away from CS blue (there are so many shades available now, unlike the 80s). It's one thing to pay homage, but I think being overly kitschy wouldn't be "fair" to the kids for which this will be their first experience with space sets. Something in Earth Blue (Dark Blue) and Dark Stone Grey (Dark Grey) with trans accents would be very nice. I thought Rexcelsior pointed in a good direction colourwise.
  10. Amazing details in this and other builds @Ymarilego - I would be interested in picking the instructions up if they are available!
  11. Update it for sure, kids are probably sophisticated enough to demand something slicker than what Classic Space was.
  12. Yes SpaceX is at the realistic end of design - and the aesthetic is very much informed by sci-fi. Having said that, it need not be that restrictive - just think how the Tron Legacy Lightcycle designed by Daniel Simon got translated into Lego by BrickBros, for example. I find the broader community produce consistently superior space and sci-fi designs than officials lego sets. Look up the works by Syd Mead - the grand daddy of sci-fi industrial design.
  13. Incredible @Captain_Quinn - love the texture on the build.
  14. Excellent vignette of an iconic scene!
  15. Grew up with Classic Space in the 80s - it was suitably futuristic then, but I found that all the subsequent space sets aged badly and lack the slickness we see in movie/tv-based space sci-fi; Star Wars mirrored the aesthetic of that particular universe well but it doesn't leave a lot of room for re-imagination. Maybe they need to take some cues from the cutting edge of sci-fi industrial design - but that might alienate younger customers who wanted glowing neon parts and more "outlandish" deisgns?
  16. Amazing - next on my list once i have managed to complete your Art Nouveau collection!
  17. In my case, more than 20 years! Right now I am trying to buy back some of the modulars, explore some MOC ones and trying to see what's out there in terms of high-tech styled architectural builds.
  18. Agree, definitely some of the best modern roughly modular-scaled buildings out there. Second the availability of instructions!
  19. Just a new AFOL member here - getting back into Lego in a big way after having grew up with it in the early 80s (think 6365, 6374, 6371, 6392, 6075, 6950, etc.) Mainly interested in Architecture, Modulars, City, Christmas and MOCs
