  1. C'est magnifique! Absolutely stunning details - I could barely tell this is Lego at first glance.
  2. Looking at the City series design over the past few years, I wonder if the TLG is falling into a similar trap as in the early 2000s (at least for some of their offerings).
  3. I am thankful they moved away from stickers for modulars - Palace Cinema was definitely the most memorable offender (eternally grateful for 3rd party custom print replacements!)
  4. Personally I thought the bookshop is fine given the form of the modular itself - and certainly compared favourably against the similarly organized Pet Shop. It's also one of the cheapest recent modular.
  5. Oh goodie, I just gotten to the rest of the images. Black beehives as the nozzle of the RS-25 engines!
  6. Interestingly it is just the meatball, not the worm. And yikes, the image of the backpanel suggests that the astronauts are sitting in the fuel tank.
  7. I don't mean departure as in terms of the set techniques or space organization - more just the architectural style itself. Have you seen the MOCs by @snaillad? Not exactly modular, but he has done some of the best Art Deco I have seen. The Pet Shop is "fine" as filler (though like you have said the interior is laughable, though as a set I think the Grand Emporium is worse in that regard - the interior is anything but grand). I strongly dislike the Town Hall - the facade felt awfully flat - and lacking in ornamentation. The scale also felt very "off" - too tall for its' width with awkward proportions.
  8. The City Space 2022 line continues to impress - that observatory/tracking station looks good! I do wish the quarter-dome hinge is a bit more subtle from the outside though. The SLS rocket analog is wayy off-scale relative to the minifigs. And yes, the squirrels will be populating my modulars soon :) I wish they create a white version as well - there is a well-documented community of white squirels in my city.
  9. I actually enjoyed the aesthetic of the Corner Garage (and the Downtown Diner) - it's a pretty refreshing change in direction over the pre-20th century look so common in the line. I wish they could do a bona fide Art Deco modular. I might get crucified for saying this - I don't think the earliest modulars aged too well.
  10. Holy, that moonbase - it looked far better than the last round of city space stuff.
  11. I wouldn't wait too long if going the aftermarket route either, the prices haven't appreciated that much at this point - I basically managed to get it at price on BL a few days ago.
  12. I totally missed the retirement of Corner Garage (stupid me for not paying attention) - thankfully I got a good deal from Bricklink - arriving today! :)
  13. Very nice! I love the treatment of the columns and the brick-formed wall paintings.
  14. It was revealed at the end of November - I think there was a leak and it forced TLG to reveal early.
  15. It’s already been made public, even on the TLG store. A collection of 6 vignettes (too bad heavily stickered) and a ice skating/ice festival park.
  16. Honestly though, if that’s what they want to do they should create a large size say Temple of Heaven.
  17. Yeah nevermind the 2nd GWP, even the first one was unimpressive relative to those from previous years.
  18. I am surprised they didn't do Hong Kong yet. Anyways, I much prefer full-size buildings over skyline miniatures that are over-priced and underdelivers.
  19. Thanks for the info - it's going to be a long two weeks! I wonder if they are going with the historical approach again (given the lukewarm reception to Downtown Diner and Corner Garage).
  20. Yes, I think Elizabeth Tower strikes a good balance in terms of the scale and affordability.
  21. Said it on Brickset but will say it again - as a set the Ulysses probe is fairly meh - yellow used instead of gold for the Mylar on the probe and the IUS; unimpressive rendering of the probe itself (weird high gain antenna, nubby controls for the deployable booms?) - I wouldn't have bothered if I wasn't a space nerd. But I am a huge space nerd, and unmanned probes are specifically my personal interest - and here comes to issue - I was hoping to pick it upon the first day along with Discovery but it wasn't available. Fine - I logged onto VIP 10 minutes early on release day and got hit by the maintenance page right at nine - and it didn't resolve until it's all over. I felt like being jerked around by TLG and the experience is anything but "VIP". And there is no way I'd ever shell out $200 for a mediocre set aftermarket as a matter of principle. So now I am just waiting for the instructions to come out and thinking of ways to improve on the design. Let's face it, there are far more impressive rendition of space probe hardware on Ideas and other MOC sites.
  22. Got mine on the first day (wasn't a pleasant experience with the TLG site, though pales in comparison to the Ulysses probe fracas) - waiting for Steindrucker to come up with the custom prints before cracking it open. Probably will invest in a display case when it comes out too. I am really looking forward to building the HST - it looks great (the "bent" look of improperly aligned solar panels is so realistic) - too bad about that "mirror" but there is only so much they can do.
  23. The Architecture line has always felt disappointing to me - premium price for lackadaisical sets. I am hoping for some more large scale, iconic structures that can actually depict some details. Instead of skyline (or even NYC-based) sets, I hope we can get some set of various architectural masterpieces.
  24. The space sets just started hitting the shelves in Canada - picked up Rover Testing Drive. Not super impressed by the design as expected (and the orange accent is rather icky), but the parts will be really useful for some serious space builds. I am super looking forward to Space R&D People Pack though!
  25. I was there as well. Work interfered with attending the event on Thurs/Fri (but I did get the big bag of loot with lots of TRON parts) but had a great time checking out the MOCs and shop over the weekend. Definitely will return!
