What are some Star Wars sets that TLG could never produce?
Per_SW replied to Pdaitabird's topic in LEGO Star Wars
And in true lego fashion it's also an incomplete set, lying on the box: I don't see any women and children on the boxart :D -
That's exactly my hope. These last few years coincided with my getting out of my dark age, but it also meant that one wave every three -give or take- was focused on the sequels, which I did not really enjoy. I'd love for LEGO to finally have the breather time to give us sets not forcibly based on the new movies and maybe revisit the prequel era, which was a bit lacking these last few years in my opinion, which has loads of potential for new sets or wanted remakes. Same thing goes for certain parts of the OT era, and before somebody bites my head off I know and love the fact that there always should be an X-wing or Falcon on shelves -I finally got an upgrade to my 7140 this year, with 75218- but please LEGO, if you have to keep making the same T-47 Snowspeeder over and over again give us someone other than Luke and Dak flying it :D So, long story short, I don't think Lego Star Wars should take a break only because there won't be any theatrical release in the next few years, and we all know that neither Disney NOR Lego would give up on the potential revenue new sets could bring in the meantime.

LEGO Star Wars 2019 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

Well, I thought she looked 16, but I also think the intent was to actually have us percieve her as a kid, so young and already leading a rebel cell. It fits with the over-arching theme of teenagers (eg Ezra and Sabine at the start of Rebels) standing up to the empire, either going against family or because they don't have any family anymore. And yes, although I'm not that old, she still looked like a kid to me. Anyway, back on topic, anyone knows if the ISD release will be coupled with double VIP points? Or if there is a double VIP day/week/month/hour/anything scheduled soon? -
I'd start hiding sets too if my local toy store was a bit more generous on discounts :D Really, they're still trying to sell Grievous Speeder at full price after everywhere else managed to get rid of it. Anyway, my last purchase was the 4+ TIE, mainly because I wanted the rebel fleet trooper and the printed Death Star screen, but also beause I was curious about the 4+ sets although I'm not their target, being 29 :D I must say though that I'm surprisingly pleased with the TIE, simple but quite sturdy, definitely a good build for a child that age.

Does (not) enjoying a movie/series influence your purchase decisions?
Per_SW replied to Flieger's topic in LEGO Star Wars
About that, I actually enjoyed the Freemaker adventures -I still remember stormtroopers forcing a door open with an orange brick separator- but I never even considered buying a set based on that show, seeing as they were usually an overpriced mess or just not that appealing (and yes, I know that the Bounty Hunter BP technically counts as a freemaker set because of the speeder bike, but not many people know that), -

I was sure that Quinlan Vos inclusion was due to the fact that he was on Kashyyyk at the time of order 66, as seen in the Republic comics, and was actually supposed to have a death scene in ep III, which never made it past the initial digital rendering. -

Then what about the $ to € conversion? :D I'm still wondering how 39.99$ can become 49.99€ according to lego. Also, I think we should get back on the set discussion rather than the price discussion, although I agree with most about some sets being overpriced we don't want the mods shutting the talk the hard way. Anyway, just a couple of days to go for the reveal, although I don't collect UCS I'm still quite curious to see how it turns out, and I'm still baffled we did not get a single leak for it all this time. -

I wouldn't put my faith on a game character becoming a real minifigure, looking at lego's history of digital models never made flesh (plastic?) such as Dexter, some Cantina NPC aliens, Boss Nass, or even the Fathiers from the TLJ short. Add to that that this particular trooper would have been a perfect addition to the 2015 Geonosis BP, as much as I would love it I don't think we'll be getting a phase I flametrooper anytime soon. Then again we can always hope and dream, but I'd wait for a more substantial (or atleast physical) leak, until then, as you noted, this could not mean anything. -
Does (not) enjoying a movie/series influence your purchase decisions?
Per_SW replied to Flieger's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think this may be the main issue. I came back to lego star wars in 2016, after a 12 year dark age, in the middle of the sequel craze. What got me back into it -after the two battlefront 2015 BPs, an unexpected birthday gift from the girlfriend- was the Imperial Hovertank from Rogue One. The movie was not even out yet, the only footage we had of it was a couple of frames in a trailer, but when I saw the brickset review I found myself really liking the set, so when I found it a couple of weeks later I was more than happy to pay full price plus the "we-overprice-LSW-sets" tax the nearest store to me enforces. Then fast forward a couple of weeks of it sitting on my desk and next thing I know I'm in the basement at 3 AM rebuilding my old collection from the 1999-2004 era. =D Same thing happened a couple of years later for the Solo Speeder: again, only the footage from the trailer, a YT review (Jangbricks') and a liking for the design of the set made me buy it before even seeing the movie. Luckily, in both these cases, I actually enjoyed the movies the sets were based on, but while I later got my hands on half of the RO sets, I only bought the TIE from Solo, and that's more an OT set than a Solo one, IMHO. The numbered episodes, alas, are a different issue. I missed the opportunity to look at the first VII wave unbiased and -even if at the time I kinda enjoyed the movie, or at least tried to- none of the sets from ep VII gave me anything, not even the slightest pang. Then VIII came, and with it what was to me an underwhelming first wave. Yes, the Bomber was nice, but out of my price range at the time, I was living in Belgium, which also has its Benelux "let's overprice SW" tax, and they where putting more appealing sets on clearance to make space for the new wave, so I didn't really care for it. Then I saw the movie, and I stopped caring for the VIII sets altogether. To this day I have bought two sets from episode VIII, both microfighters and both for the figures: the MF to finally get a Chewbacca and the Ski-Speeder/AT-M6 dual pack, because I enjoyed the Ski-Speeder design and I finally had found a flesh face for my Kyle Katarn (also, the hairpiece works perfectly on my comm operator in my small Scarif display). The MF -with a round rectenna- and the speeder are still built on my microfighter shelf, the AT-M6 was savaged for parts and sits in a plastic bag, unbuilt. Still, I believe this goes both ways, to enjoy a set does not mean to enjoy the source material and vice-versa: I love the prequels and TCW, but this does not mean I like every set from that era and I'm almost happy having missed the first Lego CW run because I really dislike the cartoonish face prints it had. A more recent exaple may be the last AT-AP and Droid Gunship: they're nice sets, from a movie I still enjoy rewatching and they both have a nice minifig selection, but they just don't do it for me. Same thing for Obi-Wan's starfighter with hyperdrive ring: a nice set for a ship I really like, but every time I look at it -the cockpit area- I see a repurposed Delta 7B -which I loathe, for some reason- and think that I'm more than happy with my dusty 2002 Delta 7. So yeah, my reasons to buy or not to buy a set can be so many and some quite petty, but I believe there can be a bias due to liking or not the source material. -
[MOC] Can-Cell Heavy Fluttercraft - 75261 Alternative Build
Per_SW replied to Per_SW's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I was not expecting such detailed feedback =D Thank you very much, both for the compliments and the suggestions. I've been looking at the finished MOC thinking on how to follow some of your suggestions, but I fear to implement any changes on the base of the ship I'd have to start the whole base from scratch. If LDD wouldn't crash every couple minutes maybe I could have worked on the digital model in the meantime. And surely a couple more wedge plates would have been so much welcome but, as you noted, with alternate builds we always need to compromise with the given pieces. @Reaper Also thanks very much for the feedback, it is always appreciated -
[MOC] Can-Cell Heavy Fluttercraft - 75261 Alternative Build
Per_SW replied to Per_SW's topic in LEGO Star Wars
That was in fact what inspired the build :) Thanks for the feedback -
Hello everyone! In the last few months I've seen quite a share of comments regarding the size of the 75261 20th Anniversary Clone Scout Walker, and about it being almost a direct recolor of the 75002 AT-RT. I too was not that enthused about its over-sizedness, already having a viable -if still not perfect- AT-RT from the latest Juggernaut, but when I found the set at a nice discount last month I caved in and bought it regardless. Then started the search for a nice alternative that didn't break up the trench or spider droid, but I came out empty handed, and so started the tinkering: I wanted to use only the pieces from the walker to make something that retained a "Kashyyyk" feeling, at first going for a Swamp-speeder/Catamaran hybrid, but never getting to a satisfying result. Or a complete build, to be honest. After that I found a video turning it into a quite finicky Wookiee flyer, and that's where the inspiration came, so I started again from scratch, and I am happy to present the Can-Cell Heavy Communication Fluttercraft. IMG_20190827_033754 Getting it's name from a native species of Kashyyyk flyers, the Can-Cell Heavy Fluttercraft is a Republic produced flyer inspired by the civilian Wookiee Ruddaugh Gnasp, meant to be used by the clones stationed there to better navigate the immense forests of Kashyyyk and provide mobile comm support where needed. Lightly armed, the flyer seats a crew of two: a pilot -usually a wookiee during the Clone Wars, but mainly to teach the personnel how to fly through the dense vegetation of the planet- and a gunner/comm operator. Also, none of this backstory is in any way canon, if you were wondering, but it felt a nice touch to add. Here are more pictures. Opposite side with studshooter IMG_20190827_033935 Rear view of closed rear hatch with main comm system and rear cannon IMG_20190827_033955 Side view with hatches open IMG_20190827_034031 View of the "interior" with hatch/wings structure removed IMG_20190827_034107 The result may not be the prettiest, but nevertheless I'm happy with it. It uses most of the pieces from the walker and a couple of the extra pieces included in the set (most notably the tan droid arm), the only addition made from my spare parts bin are two DBG clips with handle (one to hold the rear gun and one on the right side, for the smaller comm dish) and a LBG 1x1 round stud with hole (also on the rear gun). Anyway it was a fun build and it was nice creating a backstory for the vehicle. As always feedback is the most welcome, let me know what you think. :)

I was wondering about it too :D Anyway, I'm still not quite sure about this wave, firstly because I'm not much of a Sequel fan -I'm way more excited about the Mandalorian and TCW season 7 than about ep IX-, and even then I don't feel the non-IX sets to be a day 1 purchase for me. -
Wonderful price for Cloud City, kinda jealous here :D Anyway, last purchase was a 20% off 75261 20th Oversized AT-RT last month, and I finally managed to make it into a satisfying alternative build without dismantlng the trench and dwarf spider droid :)

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
Per_SW replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I recently bought a 75261 20th anniversary Clone Scout Walker, AKA oversized AT-RT, but alas the walker turned out to be what I feared: an oversized for minfigs, static, display-only piece. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the build, but seeing the walker next to the AV5 jaggernaut looks plain weird, even more factoring in the smaller AT-RT included in 75151, so I wanted to ask, has anyone has seen any good alterantive builds for it? Also, RE the smallest Millennium Falcon, I know it wouldn't be a set per se, but how about recreating the one from Escape the Space Slug? That has to be the smallest official one -
Both the Solo and Rogue One concepts look marvellous, I really enjoy the conveyex. Also, a splash of orange somewhere on Scarif would have looked nice, but at this scale I see how it can be difficult

Love it, especially the micro-sandcrawler and Falcon and the Massassi temple. Do you intend to do the rest of the movies in this style or was this just a one off? :)

I didn't think about the senator robes, I agree that it would be a much more interesting and appealing minifig, still giving them a chance to show off the new robe/gown piece.

That's exactly the kind of sets I'm talking about. It's actually quite funny that on Luke's page in the Ultimate LSW guide (from fall 2017) the only Dagobah, Bespin and Endor Lukes are still yellow-faced. The first two were finally updated last year, but I agree that we're overdue for an update on the Endor one, and the set idea you proposed is thousands times better than the action battle thing they came out with this april. Also the rebel battle pack would be nice, seeing as apart from the 2008 BP, Fleet Troopers have been quite scarce and I'm not gonna buy loads of 4+ TIEs to get them. To add some ideas, what about an update to ep II Bounty Hunter Pursuit, but instead of remaking the old set split it in two, similar to the Han/Moloch's speeders from Solo. Zam Wesell's Speeder 29.99/39.99€ Includes the speeder and parts to make the assassin droid, maybe a small balcony build representing Padmé's room if we want to bump up the price Minifigs: Zam Wesell, the assassin droid (it would be counted as such), Padmé (nightgown) and maybe the obligatory R2-D2 to complete the scene (arguably more logical to be here than in the Sentinel Dropship from last year). Anakin's "borrowed" Speeder 29.99€ Obviously including the speeder, not sure what else could be included though. Minifigs: Obi-Wan and Anakin (a nice way to get padawan Anakin, which was last seen in the Custom CW Starfighter) and maybe Captain Typho? OR another Assassin droid, similar to how in Han's speeder we get one hound for them to fight off.

A local store was having a weird "20% off everything" sale last saturday, and I managed to catch the 20th Anniversary Imperial Dropship

I'm posting this here for I was not sure if it warranted a new topic of its own, but feel free to move it if it seems better/the debate takes on. A thought that's been going around my head recently is what could be future "cheap sets ideas" including sought after or rare minifigs that are usually reserved for larger sets. To explain more clearly, I'm talking about how usually there are some minifigs, even of main characters, which are only available in the larger more expensive sets. To give some examples, I'm talking about figures such as Lando in his Bespin attire (now cheap with the 20th anniversary snowspeeder in a vintage look, but until last winter only available in the two CC sets), Bodhi Rook and K-2SO from Rogue One (only available with Krennic's Shuttle), Zeb from Rebels (only in the 2014 Ghost set), or even the simple ANH Princess Leia (which until this year's Death Star Escape was relegated to Falcons, Death Stars or Tantive IVs). If we want to go to the beginning of it all, we just have to look at Darth Vader, which for the first years of the license was only available in the Y-Wing vs Tie set, until Final Duel in 2002, and while we're talking about main villains even Kylo Ren was not available for cheap until the TLJ microfighter set and later the Duel set including Rey from this year. So, without entering the "exclusive minifigs pro and cons" debate, my question is what are, in your opinion, feasable set ideas up to the 30/40€ or 30$ (differentiating because usually 40$ equals 50€ in Lego SW and those prices are usually considered to be the "low" ones) range to include minifigs usually rare? Also, keep in mind that I'm not limiting the debate to "main" characters who have only appeared in larger sets (such as General Leia or Mace Windu up until the Grievous Speeder Ripoff), but also characters such as Mon Mothma, Bail Organa (who finally appeared) or ones that have yet to appear (Cantina denizens, General Dodonna, Nien Numb, etc).

A couple of days ago I found a new 75141 Kanan's Speeder Bike on ebay for 24€+shipping, and it just got in the mail :)
-
Not exactly purchases on my part, because they were birthday gift, but I recently got the 75218 X-Wing -time to dig up those MOD threads I saw a couple of months ago =)- and 75259 20th Snowspeeder. All in all both nice builds
-
This is simply stunning, it really captures the feeling of the war without even showing one of the two sides battling. Just by looking at it I can hear the screams of anger, pain, awe and all of the other emotions possible in such a scene
-
Hi! First of all, love the two minifigures, I didn't know about the Klatooinian jedi before seeing this. To answer your other question about minifigs I saw that usually ideas and pictures like these ended up in the Updating Your Minifigs thread, which started with the intent to update older minifigs to today standards but then evolved to include characters not yet made or to show off customs, so I'll advise you to check it for further discussion =)
