LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!

I was familiar with the concept in general, but did not know it had a specific term when applied to business/economics, it's always nice to learn something new. And I feel you about the waves lasting less and less, the nearest store to me-a franchised one, to add insult to injury- used to carry a good assortment of sets, but they are not to keen on restocking it and after TFF it shrinked in size even more, to the point that I have never seen a whole slew of sets on their shelves, including the latest Falcon, T-70 or the Tatooine sets from this winter wave. I guess they're trying to sell off the leftover Moloch Speeders and Black Aces before putting out something more palatable. -

And here I thought LEGO was the only disney star wars merchandise selling well these days, but then again they did offer us multiple landspeeders, snowspeeders and a headless AT-ST these last few years. Not gonna blame them for the inaccurate Ren's shuttle or FO concept art scuttly-thing, but then again they share the blame for the back to back T-70s and had more than a couple of blunders such as the constraction figures (at a local supermarket there is a lonely Finn from the TFA run sitting still in the toy aisle) and I guess the action battle sets. Also, I agree the prices have risen quite a bit more than what inflation could warrant, be it disney tax or greed I don't know, but it saddens me thinking about sets such as 75052, also from 2014, which for 70$ included a wonderful cantina build (using some large pieces often thought to be the culprits for higher prices) , a Landspeeder, a moulded bantha and eight minifigures, some of wich also introducing new moulds. And yet that still won't solve the situation, because the lower quality/quantity of sets makes most of us buyer more selective, so we buy less, so they make less money, so they make less sets for higher prices to recoup the losses and it seems that the only way to escape this vicious circle is to start buy sets which don't interest us (eg for me the majority of the sequels sets). -
I think that your lineups would certainly be enjoyed by many of us and would happily fork out 40 (or 50, accounting for disney tax) $/€ for a SW people pack, which could also include many interesting side builds, but alas I also fear that it could be considered to much of a stretch of the "loophole" that permits BPs to exist

Guess I'll have to BL Obi-Wan's, then, although seeing his presence in Grievous' ship AND 75135 was in 2016, compared to 75038's 2014 it was already a stretch hoping for a red Eta-2. -

I now realize that I took a "leak" for a fact (the release dates for the game and home video). I was sure it was an announced thing, but you pointing it out made me remember that I never actually read such a date from an official source. Let's blame the internet and its power to turn rumors into fact :D Anyway I agree that Exegol seems the most likely candidate for the 70$ april set, my reply was mostly a comment on the "spoilery" used by @Mandalorianknight regarding such a set, noting how if an exegol set would allegedly coincide with the release of game and dvd/bluray/laserdisc/VHS/whateverelse, the latter would render moot the spoiler nature of the first. -

I am on the fence about the duel on exegol: on one hand we don't know when palpatine was added to the IX script, possibly cutting the time for lego start designing the set -but then again his presence was announced last april, so it would be at least a year, more than enough time for a mid-range set, I guess-; on the other hand april has been the month of the home video release for the last couple of episodes and THIS april is also when the new videogame will be released, thus making the duel a "late-arrival spoiler" and perfectly safe for a set to be on shelves. -
Finally bricklinked the 70% of parts I needed to build Vader''s TIE Advanced from 75150, really enjoying the finished model :)
-
I don't know what's better, cannon-wielding Chewie or Eyepatch-Leia. All in all a wonderful selection of "crown" rebels :D Also, in my first comment I was too stunned by the beauty of the ship and the sails, now I notice the TIE windows for what I assume are captain Darth Scurvy's quarters, nice touch.
-
Are those sails the solar panels from the 4+ TIE fighter? :D That's quite ingenious. And I love the two anti-heros :D

Not being a UCS collector I initially skipped voting on the poll, but after thinking about it a bit more I finally caved in and voted for the Nebulon-B. As much as I love the gunship I am on the same page with many here who would want a proper playscale set with enough minifigure to man it (and maybe this time another pilot, so we don't have to make Obi-Wan fly the thing), and said so in my note, adding that the same goes for the bomber (2003?! Everytime I realize it I am stunned) and that the Nebulon-B NEEDS to be UCS scale to capture the essence of the ship in a satisfying way. As far as THE minifigure (their use of the singular form worries me, but then again back in 2013 the only figure with the X-Wing was R2, so they are a recent addition to ship-based UCS sets) I specified either Mon Mothma or Jan Dodonna, although I guess any high-ranking rebel could be a nice addition.
-
In between all this talk about the potential next UCS here's a weird thought, spurred in equal manner by the recent thread about a Star Wars CMF line and a youtube video I saw a couple of days ago. To elaborate, I stumbled upon a LSW video on youtube and the comment section was full of the omnipresent "We want a SW CMF line" and the dreaded "501st BP" followed by the "We want -this legion- BP". I know the option of a CMF is near to impossible and while I would actually like and buy a 501st BP I've come to loathe the almost meme it has become, but from these consideration came the idea which would probably make every clonetrooper enthusiast happy. How about a 'blind bag clone battlepack': including an AT-RT similar in scale to the one included in the 75151 turbo tank and four phase 2 clone, but with multiple variants, so the 'other colours' on the AT-RT (apart from LBG and DBG) could match a battallion (green, orange, blue, PURPLE as far as I am concerned) and the four clones would be a mixtures of different prints, 501st, 327th, 212th, wolfpack, whatever, and no box would advertise a specific quantity of one print, so it could be four blue clones and an orange AT-RT, two and two, one of each, and every possible combination, making it a seriously ammasable BP and finally silencing some of the most annoying voices of the fandom. What are your thoughts on this?
-
Managed to grab a Mandalorian BP a couple of weeks ago, and lucky at that 'cause the local store has been listing it at 27.99 € from a couple of days after I bought it, and I'm beginning to think it's deliberate.
-
I really really envy the discounts you get in the US, here even for VIP weekend there was no hint of a discount on any interesting SW set in my opinion. Anyway I finally bricklinked 75035 and 75089 (Kashyyyk and Geonosis BP), adding a couple of troopers from the same seller. Apart from a couple of cracked torsos (which I noticed after feedback) the condition was as good as advertised, but it remains a cautionary tale to double or triple-check any used lego one buys.

I find it weird that nobody yet speculated about the heads under the helmets :D Four black ones? Two angry clone and two "generic angry female Jyn Erso"? FOUR angry clone? :D Anyway, although we haven't seen any of the characters on screen yet (and who knows if we will), I think this is going to be a day 1 purchase for me. Love the capes, the callback to the earlier TCW Mando BP, the details of the figures, everything so far. -

I disagree on this point, seeing as many -me included- already own a Landspeeder from the latest waves, such as the 2017 one or 2014 one. I really enjoy the location sets and although it seems pricey at 30€ I'm still gonna buy Obi-wan's hut. If it came as a combo set for 50$/60€ -or worse 60$/70€- I think that it would be a hard pass for many. As for the rest of the wave my wallet is gonna be quite happy: I have no interest in the IX sets, and that leaves only the Bantha-Skyhopper set which is a sure buy from me. Still uncertain on the Mustafar Duel, gonna wait for some reviews before deciding, and the 4+ Snowspeeder, mostly for Wedge and the Snowtrooper. As for the Mandalorian BP I'll wait for some pictures and for the series to go on, but if it translates the onscreen quality to a lego set I'm quite optimistic about it. -
Hello everyone. Although I'm not a sequel collector, I recently purchased the new 75248 Resistance A-Wing, seeing in it much potential to join my rebel fleet, in addition to having a nice colour scheme and price point (further discounted by a promotion) compared to the last incarnation of the ship. The new RZ-2 has some glaring differences compared to the RZ-1, such as a flatter "nose", but as far as I could tell on the LEGO version they mainly amounted to a slightly steeper angle of the hull and the lack of a cargo/engine compartment behind the cockpit. Liking the angle and not wanting to overhaul the entire ship, I just went through my spare parts bins and started working on the back of the model, and here's the result. IMG_20191101_012904 As you can see I moved the cockpit ahead by one stud and unfortunately I had to remove the grilled 1x2 slopes for a couple of cheese slopes. The 1x2 slopes can be easily kept by removing the spring-loaded shooters mechanism, but I opted to keep it for the time being. For the back of the ship I recreated the design from 75175 using the 1x3 wedges, managing to keep the two stickered tiles, but for the actual cargo space I had to remove the 2x6 brick, creating the wanted space, using two 2x2 bricks fill the gaps and added or reused some parts to get the needed height. IMG_20191101_013120 The main visible difference is the back cover, a quite simple build similar to the one in 75175 for its use of the 4x4x1 curved wedge. Would that I had the piece in dark green, but then again I feel that white is still a good option. IMG_20191101_013131 The last detail was adding a control panel in the cockpit, giving the pilot something to actually fly the ship with. I also seized the occasion to add a physical control yoke to my 75175, which was sitting next to the working area for reference. IMG_20191101_013032 IMG_20191101_012940 Finally, here's a couple of shots of the two ships togetheer for comparison IMG_20191101_012857 IMG_20191101_013225 As always any feedback is much appreciated, I hope you enojyed.

As stated just above, I recently bought the last A-Wing for the exact same reason and I just finished modding it to make it a bit more similar to 75175. If you like the ship and the colour scheme I definitely advise getting it (even better if at a discount), modding should be quite easy. Also: Nice to see I'm not the only one not getting a SW feel or look from some of the sequel era new designs.
-
Nice and thorough review, I really enjoyed the comparison with the previous models, especially with 75175. I just built the model yesterday and I agree with most of the points you make (such as the landing gear slant), and I really like the overall shape of the new A-Wing, narrower but not that flat, thus being able to pass for a RZ-1 and join my rebel base. The only things I'd change are the absence of a control panel/yoke and the lack of a storage/engine compartment behind the cockpit, to be more in line with the RZ-2 (which also looks like a two-seater in the image you posted of the metal model), but both these issues should be easily moddable with some thought.

A double catch this weekend, first I got the 75243 Slave I as a gift, then found out that the local store was having a rare 25% off everything and picked up a 75248 A-Wing

Now I want a Darth Porg Minifig+80€ UCS display model. Anyway, I don't think we'll se the Ghost in lego form any time soon, but I'm guessing that maybe a new B-Wing is not too farfetched a hope. -
This and the fact that I love that dark green color scheme are the reasons I'm considering buying the new A-Wing even though I don't care for the sequels, even if I already have the red 75175 rebel A-Wing (because Lando is rare enough, so any occasion to get him is good).

Going OT for a moment, I think what both mine and @Guyon2002 problem with a "new" Y-wing is that it goes against both the new canon and the old canon/EU, now legends, as in the old one, if I remember correctly, the Y-wing was an old ship already by the time of Yavin and it was completely supplanted by the more modern B-wings by the time the empire fell; and in the new one the Y-wings in ANH are confirmed to be relics of the clone wars by Rebels (season 3 premiere, where we see them steal some which are being decommisioned). So the perceived laziness of the new Y-wing is not so much criticism on the design (which is itself a throwback to early McQuarrie sketches), but on the fact that 30something years after Yavin the concept of the Y-wing should be something already known, tested, tried and discarded. Then again we won't know until the movie comes out AND this Y-wing counts as a 2019 set so, along with any opinions about its design and/or existence, belongs in another topic. I know I opened this can of worms so that's why I'm trying to close it before it escalates. Getting back on the 2020 topic, I usually prefer the moulds for creatures (either single or composite, such as dinosaurs since the 2000 adventurers), but after seeing the Dewback from january I'm quite hopeful about the future Bantha. -

So the new Y-Wing is supposed to be a new model, it seems, and not an almost 60 year old relic flown by someone who scavenged/modified it.Don't know how I feel about this new information yet. Anyway, I'm still on the fence about the Kenobi hut (I like locations but I'm afraid the 30€ price it will get will still be too much) and curious about the bantha/skyhopper microfighter. Waiting for pictures and to see the show about the Mandalorian BP and for the rest I don't need another landspeeder and don't care about the sequels, so my wallet should be quite happy this january. -
That would be the dream of many of us, even with the option to part out sets from BL.

What are some Star Wars sets that TLG could never produce?

Well, "The boxart says this is plausible" :D
