LEGO Star Wars 2019 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in LEGO Star Wars
now that we know it's a "rusted" build, I'm 100% buying that. I should probably start saving then, the double hit of TROS sets I want and suprise new endgame wave is going to wreak havoc on my wallet. I don't collect them in-box, but I can see how this would frustrate someone. I haven't even seen the TROS boxart and the thought of normal and lego kylo ren appearing on box art next to each other actually gives me a bit of anxiety. -
I can see both sides of this argument. The sets are for children, mainly, but children have standards too. Personally, I think the "hulk helicopter drop" is fine. Going over it piece by piece again, but this time talking about kid + adult appeal: Helicopter: some kids will like it, some will think it's stupid. Adults won't like it either, but since we don't know what the other 3 sets will be I'd hold off on deciding what could be included instead and see this as a great parts pack for avengers builds. chitauri speeder: great, accurate, good for kids and adults. Leviathon: Most kids will just pretend it's bigger or something else, adults like me may customize it and put it by their avengers tower GWP Rescue: Kids just want rescue for the most part. People are whining about it, but at least we got a rescue, ok? Personally I'd rather have a dark blue purist rescue with the MCU mold, but just getting rescue is so cool I'm ok. Black widow: confusing plotwise and a waste of a space, good for people who didn't get the quinjet. I like the finally accurate batons for once. hulk: I like that we finally got a QR hulk. Is it professor hulk suit? no. Would people be mad that we didn't get a QR suit had we gotten the professor hulk suit? yes. The only way to fix this would be if lego released the compound with a different hulk. It's not the fault of this set. Also, they did a great job giving us a nano gauntlet with not only being on the other hand, as would be expected, but great printing on it and 4 infinity stones. I'd like 1 of those 5 sets to be ffh. Any more and it takes away from all the endgame we need, any less and we don't get our black and red suit we so desperately need. I think if it's released later it'll be a spoiler set with the black and red suit, and possibly confirmation of quite a few fan theories about who the villians are, whether mysterio is a hero or villian, etc.

In my opinion the molded helmet they use for most figures looks more like an iron man helmet with the molded faceplate, I don't care as much about the opening as I do about the iron man mold vs printed faceplate like rescue has. I'm customizing that leviathon a bit and putting it at my avengers tower promo

Yeah, roadhog and junkrat's the minifig. But the leaks are saying there's 4 sets and we've only seen 1, so who knows what we'll get? YEEE ENDGAME SETS ARE BACK!!!!!!!!! As for this set, I like it and will be picking it up, but I think it could be a bit better. I love the chitauri and their builds here, first off. Hulk is amazing too, from the QR suit to his new expression to the STARK HECKING GAUNTLET! The helicopter is a neccesary evil, and contains alot of nice parts. As for the negatives, did we need a black widow repeat, especially since she's *ahem* not present at this point of the film? And I'm not a huge fan of rescue's design. The purple is not the right colour for her final suit in the film, and they don't even give us a purple iron man helmet but that stupid invincible variant where it's all one piece. Aand the price, like geez that's expensive, it doesn't look like a $60 se to me even with hulk. I think we could see 2 battlepacks and a large set with good thanos, a leviathion, giant man, scale suit cap, etc, for the other three

First off, we can't confirm anything without official pictures, we're just discussing possibilities. My main point, though, is that this is a "discussion" thread. If you're looking for news, there's a news thread. Leaks are usually on IG and never shown here, just mentioned sometimes. So complain all you want about us actually discussing things, just know you're the one wasting your time reading a discussion thread when you apparently don't want to. We aren't the ones with a gun to your head. As tidy said, there's a thread for all of those. And if you've got this much stress about the mods coming after you, read the thread title and rules so you know what's allowed in it. -
That does look pretty cool. Mine is similar but uses a black wm torso, black arms with red hands, black helmet with same mask as that video, and black hips with the red sith trooper legs. Those heartbreaker legs are way more accurate though, I'll have to look in to getting some because somehow we haven't gotten dual molded legs that are black and then red at the feet. If only there was some major film coming up this summer lego made sets for in which the protagonist's final battle suit was black and red, especially one in which lego has used dual molding on figures of that character in the past.... Not to nitpick but I think those are heartbreaker (MK17) legs, not silver centurion or mk 5. They've got gold on them and no dual-molding.

That's a cool idea. I've been wanting to buy the molten man set as well as some of those minifigure packs and the smallest toy story set (Because honestly, for a G-rated kids film that was emotional), but I'm holding off until I get a promotion with it. Does anyone know any good legs for a hot rod custom? Also, whoever asked me for the images of that rescue custom like a month ago, i totally forgot, if anyone still is interested I'll DM them the images.
-
I mean, if by "ran" in 2016 you mean sold them out by 6 am and then gave everyone else stormtroopers, than yes. (I get your point about running multiple promos, and agree with it like in my earlier comment. Just still upset I got a first order stormtrooper instead of darth revan because I didn't think I'd need to be up before 6 am to get the promo.) Dang. I want one of those suits for mu HOA, or even a semi-accurate battle-damaged tony. If only they made one with a triangular arc reactor.

Probably. I would expect something very similar but with some variation considering the new parts that have come out since, and that unlike jangbricks they will sacrifice some of the accuracy and detail for stability and "play value". Then again, it could end up having a VERY similar design seeing as lego's good with making ideas projects as official sets without giving credit to the owner. (coughs in jurrasic park gate) -
I think this is them getting rid of overstock, but being smart about it. I was on the fence on whether or not to buy some cheaper spider-man sets along with the molten man set (minifigure pack, smallest juniors one), and this pushed me to get it. I believe someone else had mentioned this was a GWP for disney sets, so star wars and toy story are also included, so it gets more people to buy toy story 4 right about the opening weekend of the film. Weren't silver centurion/iron patriot new production runs? Or were they just sitting on warehouses full of valuable lego minifigures for years? I can't find this on the american online store, do you guys know if this is store-only or regional, or if I'm just missing something?

The piece count is likely a coincidence, but I do think it's a remake of the shuttle from 2015, with the main differences being that it's black and the wings of the shuttle angle out for flight and straight for landing like in the movie, as opposed to how the 2015 set had the wings stay straight but the tips folded in for landing. -

true, but alot of that film changed when abrams took over. it's no longer going to be partially filmed in space, for one thing. I do think that that ship's a possibility though. I'm guessing it's that, the white and red one rumored by making star wars.net, or an accurate version of his shuttle given it's prominance in TFA and TLJ. Sorry, I must have misread your earlier comment. -

My mistake, got confused with some old rumors that were there before the sets list came out, and proven untrue then. Kylo ren's starship is the only one we're getting, which I assume is his shuttle or something new. -

what's this interceptor rumor? That wasn't in the list, was it? I thought the only FO ships we were getting were the bomber and some form of shuttle for kylo. I didn't grasp how bad intercontinential shipping was until I tried to ship a diagon alley to New Zealand and it was $57 -
To me it's at least remotely accurate, and not immoral or feeding a company that would be illegal anywhere but china. This has global implications as well, with china, russia, etc, frequently at odds with the western world in places such as north korea and venezuela. This is part of the reason china protects these bootlegs of western products from prosecution, it keeps the products on shelves chinese-made. I'm not saying buying bootleg is some sort of unpatriotic thing, but you have to realize why lego/disney/etc haven't shut them down yet. I still don't get how people fail to see the immorality of it, but that's just my thoughts. Yeah I've made a good punisher with the crossbones torso, reaper trenchcoat/cape thing, black legs, etc. The amount of lego available, most humanoid figures can be made into lego pretty easily.
-
My problem arises from the immorality of buying a knockoff lego. Even if it's not a specific figure that lego made, it's: A: a knockoff of both the lego figure design and the IP of the character, both of which are illegal to make almost everywhere but china because they protect the bootleg companies to profit off them. B: still buying from a bootleg company, which I consider immoral for attempting to leech of actual creators and companies, but that's just my opinion. Stuff like actionflash's designs being stolen always makes me mad. C: It's always a poorer quality. I have nothing against people buying CUSTOM figures, like the people that print characters we never got onto real lego, as that's real lego, but these knockoff companies make this out of the lowest-quality plastic they can. So personally, I only use official figures or purist customs. I can't afford to spend $200+ on a Jean Grey figure either, but I can slap red hair and a jean grey-ish face on iron fist's body to make a good enough phoenix. I don't get this either. At best, this is evidence that Carol's torso isn't exclusive. At worst, it means lego's holding marvel to a different standard and only giving us good sets as comic-con exclusives. I'm really confused as to why they do this. It can't be disney interference, as even the most cynical disney-haters would agree that if they wanted to maximize the money they squeezed out of the set they'd make it general release. Disney and lego don't get the money scalpers make off selling the SDCC sets at massive prices. Same goes for "lego's being greedy". When they do this, it makes people angrier with lego and less likely to buy they sets, and in some cases, as @Balrogofmorgoth and @shadefoundry have shown, drive people to buy the knockoffs instead. This lowers lego's revenue. And I actually went out and showed most of the children I know (between the ages of 7 and 12) images of the SDCC and general-release captain marvel sets, and most said the SDCC one was better. (The skrull was the only real factor against it, since captain marvel has no one to fight in the SDCC set.)* So this is really confusing me. Lego can't possibly have a terrible enough marketing and surveying group that they do this bad of a job at understanding that kids would also like this type of set, and there's no way they haven't heard us. That said, they haven't acknowledged their "any light color when printed on a torso/head comes out white" problem either. But they did stop regional exclusives, and gave some halfhearted tweet in response to the 501st battle pack campaign... lego makes no sense in regards to listening to fans.
-
Buying knockoff lego is always taking revenue from lego, whether due to buying your knockoffs when you otherwise would have bought lego or buying stuff from companies that exist to leech off lego by fooling people into thinking it's lego/ getting people such as you to buy it. It's also a clear violation of copyright laws, and therefore illegal. The only reason lego hasn't taken these companies down is because they're in china, and china's corrupt government won't let lego, or disney, or any IP owner go after them. Buying any sort of knockoff is bad, but with marvel, it takes revenue from disney, marvel, and lego. It's always about the money because if all their sets were SDCC captain marvel types, less kids, their main source of revenue, buy them.
-
However mad I get at lego, I'll never resort to buying knockoffs. Not only is it buying something dubiously legal if not outright copyright infringement, and just just a jacka** thing to do, but it actually worsens the problem you are trying to solve by taking revenue from lego, which means they have to lower the detail and amount of sets. There's almost certainly only one marvel set for SDCC. Also, that's literally just a list of all the figures people really want, and the leaker literally says those are just guesses in the image!!! You need to read things more carefully.
-
There is only one exclusive figure. maria's head is from women of nasa and her torso is from tallie lintra Or a ditko suit, or rescue, I think i'd go insane. I still haven't moved on from symbiote suit spidey. But then again, you know what they say about moving on... THERE'S MORE OF US THEN THERE ARE OF THEM!!! LET'S ALL FLY TO DENMARK AND PROTEST OUTSIDE THE LEGO HOUSE!!! If it's endgame wave 2 I'll almost forgive them for this captain marvel set. Almost. You can afford to spend $500 a year on lego comic con exclusives?!?!?
-
This is so annoying, however I don't belive maria's exclusive, that's Tallie Lintra's torso from the last jedi. That is interesting, but no gun? I think since she's a film character and in the context of the movie is either piloting a test plane or fighting skrulls, it's ok. Not sure what lego's rationale is 100% though. The most annoying think about this to me is we get TWO sets with the same captain marvel, but this variant, the one she's in for most of her own film, is a comic con exlcusive? This isn't like sheriff deadpool or that alternate universe batman where it's a fringe variant, this is a recognizable costume!!! @THELEGOBATMAN I feel you, this is one of the only SDCC exclusives i've ever really wanted, and it does feel like a big middle finger to all the fans who wanted this.

Marvel sets don't sell to well, yeah, but at least in my experience those TLBM sets were warming shelves all over the place. They made SO GODDANGED MANY too, and they were always on clearance at the target I go to. I think others had mentioned this before, but as we're talking about marvel lego not selling too well, there's a vicious cycle taking place. Marvel sets don't sell well, the theme gets a smaller budget, the designers have to make less printing and detail, the sets sell worse because they're not detailed and have less printing than other themes, the theme gets a smaller budget, and repeat. This could osteniably be fixed by lego injecting some more money into marvel's budget, but the relative flop of the lego movie 2 couldn't have helped.
-
From what I know the marvel sets don't sell too well, hence the lack of printing being due to lower funding. I'm not sure, just what I heard. If they did start selling well though, maybe? I don't know when/where it is, but you could buy it for like $4 if you bricklinked the parts, there aren't any exclusive parts or prints.

Either make sense, we've also been hearing about a new ship kylo has in IX, some white and red thing. Really we don't know much, but I'm hoping for an accurate TFA shuttle. Might be. It'd be a nice move for lucasfilm to connect this stuff, they'd have higher chances of people buying them at galaxy's edge. As is, defense turret is the only one I know i'll buy. If the (brown) at-st is rusted and worn down, hence the brownish colour, I'll buy it, maybe speeder bike and landspeeder too. -

It has. As with most leaks, not just for lego, leaks can happen more/less often depending on how strict the company is, or if there's an insider. To use marvel as an example, no one knew infinity war's ending until about when it came out, but inside leakers like "roger wardell" (twitter account I assume is a pseudonym) accurately leaked endgame the december before it was released, and now people have major plot details on marvel films as far off as 2021. So it can change alot, like sir von lego suddenly going silent on leaks a while back after the torrent/resistance transport rumors has undoubtedly made it harder to get rumors. It's also important to note we don't have images yet, just set names/codenames, not even figure lists, meaning they might not be in production or even fully designed yet, just the concepts the designers are working on. That said, this specific list still seems weird to me, with the use of codenames the same as the codename for the mandalorian, and something like the kenobi homestead that seems just so obscure.
