LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Star wars has always had a significantly higher budget/allocation of new prints/molds than marvel. All figures in the mechs will have leg printing. Others have said it's in the movie, deleted scene is standoff with vader like you said, but I'm gonna hijack this comment to go off-topic about how much I love this specific thing. The emperor dismissing his guards serves so many purposes that are all super cool: On a surface level, it's because he doesn't need them. Because of Vader, but more importantly, foreshadowing that he himself is immensely powerful. It also serves to show how in-control the emperor is of the situation. He doesn't even need his guards because there's no possible way he could lose. If Luke kills vader, he becomes the emperor's new apprentice. If Vader kills Luke, he's cemented as fully unable to return from the dark side, from his servitude to him. Even if Luke kills the emperor, he will turn to the dark side, and the Jedi will be dead. (or nowadays, the greatest hope for the jedi is dead-though there are still a couple kicking around-, and palpatine uses essence transfer. Fine.) Aw, man, I don't even care that the throne room seems a little overpriced. This is my favorite scene in the entire star wars universe, in cinema history, and it's captured perfectly. I cannot wait to pick this up. These dioramas continue to be by FAR my favorite sets lego puts out, after the bespin duel and dagobah training took the spots from eachother. I could care less what every other set this year is now. I got what I wanted, and "oh, it's beautiful". Endor diorama is fine. A little too sparse, it needed more trees. Still a solid set, just pales in comparison to the other. -

And people like Ashnflash have said their statements were a lot more unclear than "this set is cancelled". I don't think we should count on 77014 releasing, but I don't think it's accurate to say it's definately cancelled. -

I assume most people's first thought was "aw, man. That's terrible." or something. But this is a lego discussion forum, so the discussion on the form will revolve around legos. Hence when an event occurs that will alter the chances of getting a desirable character as a lego fig, that's what will be discussed on the lego discussion form, regardless of what people think about the wider situation. For example, I've made my hate for Ezra Miller and his any% geneva convention speedrun abundantly clear, but I can think all that and still want a minifig of his flash. (In fact, I want an accurate minifig of his JL flash, but of course we'll never see that.) -

I'm gonna be seriously annoyed if lego doesn't make a Kang fig but still thinks it's ok to make one of Mr IRL reverse flash. (Edit: To be clear, I'm fine with lego miller flash, but if they make one of him, they have no reason not to make one of Kang.) Yeah, Majors has one case that has yet to be proven, as opposed to a crime spree where half the stuff is on video. Miller is much worse. -

I said worst case, not best case. A new super battle droid mold set could help justify the insane price (not that it does, but... it would help a little at least). -

Hot take (apparently): I think some variant of the falcon, x-wing, and TIE need to be on shelves almost constantly. They are the three most iconic vehicles in star wars. Now, that doesn't mean we need one every 2-3 years. I think lego could realistically do something like 1 every 4-5 years. Now, it'll have been 5 years since the last falcon, and 13 since the last OT falcon. I think 2024 would be fine for an OT falcon (any film in the trilogy). Yup. The figs could make it "worth it" in the sense that they're desirable enough for people to buy it, but on an objective level, this thing would have to be a freakin bionicle to be worth $25-30 at 108 parts. Yup. It's got to be more desirable than even just 4 standard clones, i think, since there's be a set $5-10 cheaper with MORE PARTS on shelves that also has 4 clones. 4 minifigs seems to imply they aren't battle droids (if they are, the set will sell, like, 5 copies total.). But now you've jinxed us. The set will come with 4 yodas. -

At the risk of going back off topic, the 2019 falcon is still kicking, so we won't see a new system one until it retires. To try and help re-topic the thread, what do we actually know about the swamp speeder? 4 minifigs, 108 pieces, $25-30? Because going off that, the four minifigs would have to be P2 Rex, Darth Revan, Rebel Friend, and Netflix Daredevil for me to see the set as worth it at that PPP. -

It even got multiple lego sets. Definately not up to par with Clone Wars or Rebels, but it's out there. Well, there are a couple things here. First is that Veers and Dodanna are definately more recognized by casual fans than random clones, even if it's moreso "The bearded dude who gives the briefing on the death star" or "the guy who commanded the AT-ATs". The characters themselves might not be the most engaging, but they definately are part of some of the most iconic scenes in the franchise. Sloane is definately a wild card, but that gets us to the other point: a lot of it is based on what they CAN be in. This is where Ten Numb factors in. Yeah, he's not well-known at all, but he's a B-wing pilot, so it makes sense for him to show up in a B-wing. The issue with putting every concievable clone into a set is that they run up against each other. My homie Thorn, as well as Doom, Lock, Tup, Kix, and all the other obscure clones won't be made, because out of the clone wars era sets lego produces, only a fraction of those would make realistic sense to include a unique clone trooper in, and they're gonna put the more famous ones in there because they sell better and people actually want them. Doom might be more in-demand than Ten Numb, but they can't put him in a B-wing. Jesse might be more in demand than a 501st specalist from BF2, but we'd never have heard the end of it if he was in the battle pack. -

This is a joke, or a parody, right? You don't legitimately believe lego needs to make literally every clone trooper? Like, you're not legitimately thinking there's a reasonably way we'd get Dogma or Doom or Thire? Lego says they don't look at/care about aftermarket, which is either a lie or an economic blunder, but yeah I totally agree with the wider point. We are due a Rex. ... the two season Resistance animated series? The rumored sequel-sequel movie set for 2025, the one star wars film that actually seems to be getting developed? This is just patently untrue For some reason I read this as Neil Patrick Harris and Alison Brie's characters from visions and was really, really confused. But yeah, we definately need Saw. Edrio and Benthic would be nice too, but I don't think we'll see them. First of all, we don't have Nien Numb, so... yeah. Second, don't compare Bossk or Dengar to random background clones. I WILL NOT tolerate this fox slander. He did what he thought was right. It's not his fault there was a galactic conspiracy he wasn't able to see. Also, we're getting super off topic, but it's nice that the mods are letting it play out given there isn't much new info to talk about and everyone seems to be remaining mostly civil. -

IIRC all we have is the leaked flash torso and the name of the set. (I mean obviously based on the name we can extrapolate a keaton batman and batmobile) I could totally be wrong on this, but for all we know it has a side build. Not to mention we don't know about the other figures, if any, and any sort of specifics on the batmobile design (how many seats, play features, etc). -

This is an absolutely hilarious take. "No, you see, the prequels are good and the sequels aren't because fans don't like the prequels, whereas fans don't like the sequels." It's nonsense. Both trilogies have been lambasted by fans. Find a middle aged man and he'll tell you the same things about the prequels that a millennial or older gen z will tell you about the sequels. As for the sequels not selling... did sequel legos do that poorly? I don't remember seeing them on sale any more than other star wars sets. As for "Its been 8 years since TFA. If the sequels were to age like the prequels in the eyes of the masses, we are way overdue a change in opinion.". No, not at all. It was 8 years between TPM and the clone wars film, 9 between TPM and the start of the show. As of the production of TFA, the prequels were still almost unanimously regarded as terrible. Public opinion didn't change until after the sequels started releasing. All this is super off topic, so I'm gonna move on now. As someone who hates all the whining from fans that they're entitled to every clone trooper ever made, I think Rex is definately overdue. He's the main clone in the clone wars. He's more well-known than Cody or any other commander. I don't think it's some grave sin that we haven't had one in a decade, but it is a little mind-boggling that they didn't shunt him into one of the many clone-focused sets of the past few years for an easy sales increase. -

Or like a wave of guardians sets without the main villain. Oh, wait. That's happened twice. Jokes aside I totally agree. Rex is a fairly major character outside the films, and he should be in a set soon. Even that isn't necessarily true. Lots of AOTC was in response to TPM's reception, including, thankfully, the relative lack of Jar Jar. IIRC, the plan for the villains throughout the trilogy also sort of changed on the fly, which I feel does show upon a rewatch. The clone wars series really served to fix a lot of the weirder parts of the prequels, as I'm sure will be done for the sequels. EDIT: I just realized that you can draw some direct connections. Ep 9 did to rose what Eps 2 and 3 did to Jar Jar (not to say Rose is anywhere near as awful as Jar Jar). The sequels also have a weird villain thing where seemingly prominent villains are killed off earlier in the trilogy leading to new ones popping up from nowhere (which, at least for the prequels it was the apprentices, and not the master, which is not nearly as bad). -
Marvel Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Before the movie. The movies have elevated deadpool's popularity and his edginess to the point where any system set with him in it is near-impossible. The best we could get is, MAYBE, an 18+ set with a comics-based deadpool, or if he has a suit specific to a PG-13 avengers film later on. He's not showing up in a children's book. IIRC there was even a cancelled set including deadpool back in 2016. -

As Kallus says, it's because he's not appropriate for kids. Exactly. The average deadpool fan isn't older than 14 because the reason they think he's cool is precisely due to the fact that he's not appropriate for them. When you're old enough to legally see the deadpool films alone, you realize they aren't that good. -

The prequels were critical bombs in the eyes of fans at the time. The kids who grew up with the sequels will like them, and there'll be a whole "guys the sequels are actually really good" like there was with the prequels. Because no, the prequels are not "good", at least not significantly better than the sequels. They have terrible CGI, laughably bad acting and dialogue, etc. As much as people complain that the sequels broke characters like Luke (which don't get me wrong I hate what they did with Luke in TLJ), people complained at the time that they broke characters like Vader and Yoda. The people who grew up with the prequels were just first exposed to those versions and never had those issues. There's nothing wrong with liking the prequels, but this "the prequels are actually really good, but the sequels are terrible" is a bad take IMO. TLDR: Just like you think the prequels are good, the people who grow up with the sequels will think they are good. They are much more important characters than they were in S1 and S2 though. I wouldn't discount seeing them again in a year or two. -

BP I could see potentially, but not deadpool. No WAY they put him in a kids' book. I think an MCU Cap suit is all but guaranteed, as much as I'd like Stan or a comics character. -
Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Jeez guys, for that BB ep 14 set you both forgot That one's definately showing up on my list for the summer community wishlist wave. Which, I suppose I should start requesting suggestions for soon, since I'll be starting it in late may. Feel free to PM any suggestions to me and I'll compile whatever I get into my template, and share that here in mid-April where we'll get into the specifics. Understandable. Can't wait to see them! Sequel trilogy CMF is next, I guess. 1. Finn (stormtrooper armor): Swappable head/bloodstained helmet, blaster 2. General Leia Organa: Starkiller base plans. 3. That would be such a strange choice to base that vehicle off of, and MandR's somehow gotten stuff right before, but the concept of that vehicle being based on it's appearance in that property is so absurd to me, I just can't see it. -
DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Exactly. Let's look through the absolute max amount of figs we can get for the Burton films: New, desirable figs: Returns batsuit, Penguin, Catwoman Semi Desirable: 89 Batsuit, Joker, Alfred Could be/will be included but not very interesting: Vicky Vale, Bruce Wayne, Selina Kyle, Max Shreck... Joker goons? Circus freaks? That's like 12-15 figs AT A STRETCH, with only 6 of them being remotely desirable. This is pretty rough, figure wise. Which wouldn't have been an issue.... if the build wasn't condemned to be a Burton build. The comics cave has a variety of interesting artifacts and elements to it, whereas the burton batcave has... walls. -

Yeah, it looks much better here. I'm still not sold on the sort of curve to the sides, it makes his head look a little too bulbous compared to the type 2 and 3 cowls, but type 4 isn't the absolute joke it first appeared to be. I don't necessarily think I'd swap it out of my Batman figures.
