LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Mandalorianknight replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I's Hoar the tusken raider from the one fighting game. You'd definitely get strange looks if you asked about that due to how it's pronounced YES I 100% support this, Wilrow hood was SNUBBED from the bespin MBS and deserves a fig. *In Norman Osborn voice* You're insane. But actually, while obviously a lot of this is personal opinion, there are some straight-up incorrect things. Mainly... of course it's not accurate to what the BARC looks like, it's not supposed to be a BARC, which I feel is super obvious? It has the front of a 74-Z, seats two, and has a rear turret. It's literally not meant to look like a BARC. It's a reference to the speeder from the 2007 battle pack. (As for paying $30 for it... yeah, sure, but it's taking up LESS parts than if it was the main build of a $20 battle pack. It's not really a big part of the set) Tri-Droid is obviously subjective, but that's certainly an interesting take. There are maybe 4 people alive who want to army build the confederacy but not clones. If you're having trouble army-building B1s, I don't even know what to tell you. The lack of leadership figures like a tactical droid, magnaguard, or clone leader is good for army building? Generally there are a large number of leaders and a much smaller number of officers. You don't want a quarter of your army to be clone officers or tactical droids.... Updated TROS Rey (This is a joke) -

Seriously. Yours are kinda fun and have a solid logical track as who they're referring to (with the quotes generally meaning the speaker or subject of the sentance is coming I know! This is significantly better value than the $20 packs, and to be honest, I think it's significantly better value than the 501st pack from 2020 that kicked off the whole clone frenzy (3 more SBDs, and with the octopurra being roughly equivalent to the AT-RT. Obviously the BARC is beefier than the speeder, but I think the other builds being a speeder+bunker+STAP more than makes up for it) Every time I write a post on this set my opinion goes up. I think I have decided that if it'd had one more B1 and the two-seater speeder was a downsized BARC or a republic 74-Z, this would have been the mythical 10/10 set. As is, I'd say it's easily a 9.7 and up there with some of my other favorites like the Dagobah, Bespin, and DS2 dioramas (though more reasonably priced than all of them) Dank Ferrik, it's ketamine addicted yoda from the old memes. No wonder it's controversial, it's the first lego figure to come with drugs -

I dunno. We got the spidey and harry potter sets around a day ago, speed champions and the sonic polybag not long after, and just now got the star wars sets. I think the january marvel wave leaks/is revealed any minute now. -

Yeah, I totally get not wanting to decimate the set's budget on a bigfig, too. But now that all they'd need is a single new mold for the horns (or realistically, not even a new mold and just a 1x1 with clip and a large horn piece on top), there's nothing stopping them from putting him in a future set, right? ...right, guys? That's actually just Tobey Maguire. They got him to voice spidey in this and he demanded it be live-action, so it's just him acting on a green screen that then has the cartoon playing around it. -

True, but EXCELLENT part packs. Those candle/weapon extenders, riot shields, 2x2 triangle tiles in Dark Red, etc. That's awful about the theft though. I've seen some toy aisle theft before (transformer weapons/heads removed from those dumb open-window boxes, the cardboard "blind bags" being smashed open to find the figure, etc), but stealing the figs out of a brand new set is a whole new level of cruel. Having one more battle droid would put it as a legitimately 10/10 set in my eyes (Maybe including a visor/antenna pack in black, too). The B2s are my one big concern precisely because like you say, it's hard to make out a specific change. I'm going to hope they just fixed the brittleness issues from a materials end, but they NEED to have fixed those or I will be asking for refunds. Those old B2s were worse than early 2010s dark red and reddish brown. They were arguably as bad as 2007 lime green joints in bionicle. Not from what I've seen. I think the only reason Young Leia didn't experience rose tico levels of hate is because the actress is a kid and as such it's easier to attribute the flaws to the writing rather than the actress. (To clarify, do not bully child actresses, or adult ones for that matter, but people did NOT like young Leia from what I saw.) The Crimson firehawk set is uniquely terrible for juniors. It's not like I expected anything special, it's a 4+ set, but even just comparing this to the spider-man ones that just got revealed, dang. 5 figs+new mold+ much larger builds in the spider man set for only $5 more than this one with much smaller builds and only two figs with the same number of new molds (1). And the ship itself... look, juniors is juniors, but looking up the ship's actual appearance, man is that a poor rendition. The juniors sets are usually pretty good at being good likenesses of their ships for that age range, but that's tough. If I had the money I would too, with every passing second I look at this my appreciation for it grows -

Yeah, it's about what I was expecting. A little disappointed by the tri-droid (those anti studs didn't need to be there, there's literally a 1x3 inverted tile that already exists in LBG), and I don't see any noticable changes in the B2s (Look, as nice as a return of the rocket arms would have been all I needed was a minor update, but it doesn't even look like they touched up the torso/leg molds), but the clone side builds are actually quite nice, as is the STAP. $30 sounds a little rough, but splitting this up in my head to the clone and droid factions and their builds, this is actually super reasonable as if it was two $15 battle packs, and has a shockingly good figure/part ratio. All in all, definately getting two on launch, and more down the line with sales and VIP Points. Pretty happy. -

The Bugle would have been a perfect place to introduce comic Electro and Lizard, but at the same time, I don't remember it having any new molds, so maybe they didn't have that budget allocated. The dude who spent pages arguing about something we have no indication will be relevant anytime soon is unable to process comedy -
DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
We have had a fair chunk of large 18+ sets in the past 4 years (1989 batwing and batmobile, UCS Tumbler, technic batcycle and batmobile, and most recently the batcave shadow box thing), but I do think we won't get anything off explicitly R-rated material like Joker or the Snyder Cut, since lego's generally stayed away from that line (until marvel duped them into it with their Echo figure and later making the show TV-MA) -
I can't believe it took me this long to see this, it's excellent! A good balance of "play features" like fitting the minifigures and having the S-foils work, while still being a very accurate model for the proportions of the X-wing. That fuselage is especially great.

DC Superheroes 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Mandalorianknight replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
The lego movies underperformed towards the end and IIRC they changed studios so the rights got all switched up. The short answer for the lack of sets is that lego doesn't have confidence in DC as a brand. The only character who's still at the level of spotlight of spider-man or the avenger's popularity this past decade is Batman, and he skews further and further out of the realm of films appropriate for kids, which paired with the lack of any major current cartoons keeping him in kid's eyes, means the few sets we do get are either the safest possible choices of batman+Joker/Harley+a bat-vehicle, or sets for collectors based on older movies. -

I'm responding to you specifically because you explained the in-show reason, but EVERYONE, I GET IT, SPIDERS SPIN WEBS. This does not change my reaction. You may as well call him "crawl", or "waterspout", or "bottle of raid". I like that the 4+ show gives him a different super hero name to differentiate him from Peter, but I refuse to accept spin. Also, why Spin and not Spinner? Spinner feels more like a name, spin sounds more like an action. Shadow Spider is cool and fits with Ghost Spider being Gwen's name, even if I personally still prefer Arachnid. Thank you. I do, however, have a question for lego on this topic: "You were supposed to reveal them hours ago." He's been called this for YEARS? WHAT? This has been happening for YEARS and no one's found a better name? Yeah, it's really weird that we haven't seen the January wave yet. I'm getting a little concerned. -

I would love this as well, and he would fit most of the criteria (white shirt), hasn't been made in lego before (at least officially released- there is a prototype). Though I'm not sure how he'd be packing heat or whatever falcon said. Did they give him a lightsaber? -

This would make sense. A choice for a 25th anniversary fig since he wouldn't be in anything else (as opposed to Dedra who would be able to be included in anything Andor or basically any imperial vehicle), and probably would be pretty controversial due to being just a dude in a prison uniform alongside people like Malak and Fives. That said, he would honestly be the most desirable for me just because I think he's one of the best character arcs in the franchise, and I feel like there are a lot of Kino fans, so I could see him being received pretty well. -

That's possible, but am I missing something with "spin" specifically? What connection does that word have to miles or spiders? It is honestly really nice, I'm gonna swap the head out for the *title card* iron man from the detroit steel set, and then it'll be set in my hall of armors as the "final suit" so to speak. I get why they want the differentiation, especially for a preschool show (I don't even have kids and I can see the frustration of a kid saying he wants to be spider-man for halloween and refusing to elaborate further on WHICH ONE), but SPIN? AGAIN? WHAT DOES SPINNING HAVE TO DO WITH MILES OR SPIDERS? It's not a big deal- again, it's for children young enough most of em literally wouldn't be able to read this forum- but yeah, none of that can be used for non-juniors Zolas. I feel like we've got some solid classic iron men at this point between amazing friends, mighty micros, etc. Arguably Loki as well, though I agree mighty micros doesn't really give good parts for a solid classic ultron, he needs a new head/helmet mold. And of course, lego's running joke of producing every other electro variant besides the classic comic one. -

Thoughts (Keep in mind while I do technically fit the demo of "above 4", these sets are obviously not meant for anyone who should be on this forum... or able to read at this level) Electro set: My biggest takeaway here is SPIN? Miles is named SPIN? Kid Arachnid was fine, I personally still like Arachnid as his hero name, but SPIN? REALLY? Electro has no usable parts for standard comic electro but *chris evans voice* whatever Goblin set: ...I mean, I guess spider-man does lack a water traversal method... Aside from them putting in a little extra work to give Ghost spider... bat wings? (I get what they were going for but don't think it works, we really need a dual-molded arm there to get across that it's webbing and not part of the arms), it's a wash. Zola set: AGAIN? SPIN? REAAALLLLY? THIS IS THE BEST MARVEL CAN COME UP WITH? THE MOST POPULAR SUPERHERO COMPANY IN THE WORLD? SPIN? Anyway, the Zola set is fine. Obviously zola himself has no usable parts for a non-kiddie Zola, but the Iron Man fig is actually not half-bad. One thing I do like with this wave is the gold on the outfits, and I might have to bricklink Spidey and Miles for those heads and torsos. Maybe Iron Man too if he's cheap enough, that's a great suit. -

I was thinking one of those more limited-release packs, hence why it's only 3 actual figures and $15 The Elite Squad didn't fight in the clone wars either. The whole move to non-clone troops occurs after the empire is formed. Imagination? With a children's toy brand? NOOOO! -

Oof, that is... that is ROUGH. Some massive printed/stickered parts that really hurt this design. I don't think a spider-man mask works well here at all, but I think the best thing to do may have been just to attempt to use small part separations to imply the webbing without these large printed elements. -

I know Judicials were a thing in legends and canon has some non-jango republic soldiers (Bravo most prominently), but ironically the demise of Angry Clone means the faceprints now don't really work for most CW vets. You've got a white dude, a white woman, a black woman, and I suppose you could say the scout's an aged-up omega, but she technically never served in the clone war My biggest remaining question is what the B2 droids will look like. We know what the clones will look like, the builds are fine but (to my knowledge) as far as we know not canon at their sizes so'll end up as a parts pack. The droids are a big unknown. Is it just a fix of the older mode that won't be so brittle? Will we get more accurate arms? Will the rocket arm piece return? Could we see individual legs? Will we be watching out for those wrist rockets? -
[MOC] MINI Yoda's Jedi Starfighter (CW)

I remember seeing that and thinking that they captioned it wrong and it literally was just supposed to be some sort of weird recolored TIE striker, because yeah, that's not even remotely close to yoda's starfighter. Yours, on the other hand, is perfect. No idea who they've got making these polybags when you're around showing them up! -

I'm shooting myself in the foot here because I really want to get some imperial/rebel/first/order/anything else battle packs again, but it would be cool to see some sort of small "support crew" pack. Something like a P2 pilot, P2 gunner, unarmored officer, and astromech droid and some sort of bridge console or crew cart/loading bay for $15. What's funny is the midis aren't for me (Cool and all, but I'd only really want OT capital ships. Mid-sized OT ships and capital PT ships are cool, just not my cup of tea here. The executor is great, but may sit alone on my shelf), and neither is the podracer diorama. I even feel the same about the clone wars stuff, generally speaking (Though I've wanted shinies and shocks for forever, so I'll get two of that pack, and of course $13 rex is $13 rex, so I'm falling right into their hands). I do totally agree that the battle packs need to become more varied again. Can we at least do something like 3BPs a year, and only one of them being clones? Right now I think we're at a greater than 50% rate of clone centric to non clone army building sets over the past few years. Same here. I've wanted the ability to get a number of P2 Shinies since 2012 or whenever the transition to P2 was made in TCW, and the Tantive IV hallway may be one of the best new ideas for a set based off the OT lego's done in a decade or more. It's one of the most iconic opening scenes in film history, how has it not gotten a designated set yet? (Especially the part where ARC Trooper fives shows up out of nowhere, goes "it's fivin time" and fives all over the empire, helping Leia get away with the plans) -

Even better. Though I suppose the gunners could have been nice to slot into the cannons from the specialist pack.
