LEGO Ninjago 2021
Lego David replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Personally, I can't say I am a fan of Brickbuilt dragon heads... They just look way too blocky in my opinion. Molded heads, on the other hand, usually have a more natural looking shape to them. -

And... so what? Molded Ninjago dragon heads have always looked batter than the brickbuilt ones in my opinion. On top of that, I find them quite useful for MOCing. A good balance between pre-fab and brickbuilt is the key to having a great LEGO dragon, and I think Ninjago has mastered that pretty well. -
I pretty much completely ignored the LEGO Elves theme when it was out, due to it being a "girl theme", and now I am feeling the pain of what I have missed out on. The sets have gotten incredibly expensive on the aftermarket, especially for a theme that only recently ended. I love pretty much everything about it, from the world, to the dragons, and even the characters. I even watched the Netflix series, and to my surprise, I quite enjoyed it. I am now desperatly trying to find some of the sets online for a reasoable price, which surprisngly enough, seems to be quite a hard task. If there is a lesson to be learned from this experince, it would have to be "Don't ever ignore anything of what LEGO puts out, because you might regret it later down the line".

I disagree, having Fantasy elements makes it even more exciting and interesting. To this day, Fantasy Castle remains the best iteration of LEGO Castle we have ever gotten, in my opinion.

LEGO Ideas Discussion

If I had to take a guess they would probably be boxes with a white background, and just a simple "LEGO" logo in the top corner. Pretty much in the same way as the AFOL Design program sets looked. -
Fantasy Pirates: A LEGO World Builder Project
Lego David replied to Lego David's topic in LEGO Pirates
Yes, we want to create a pitch for a new LEGO theme (like Friends, Elves, etc) that would be submitted to LEGO through the new LEGO World Builder platform that was recently released. There is no guarantee that LEGO will actually take note of it, but hey, there is no harm in trying. -
Fantasy Pirates: A LEGO World Builder Project

Update: We almost finished the concept art for the Pirate Captain, which is going to be the main character in this theme: As a nod to the Classic LEGO Pirates line, we plan on making this guy be the nephew of Captain Red Beard. It's not going to make any difference in the theme's story, but still a nice little nod to the older LEGO Pirates fans. -

Same here. That set really deserves a second chnace! -
Ok, I have never been the type of guy that buys LEGO knockoffs, but those sets are seriously tempting. I mean just look at them, they look AMAZING! Much more interesting than the themes LEGO currently has on the market to be honest.

My ships aren't going to look like that one, trust me. I plan on giving my ship a more dynamic shape and more play features. -

Lloyd's Bike: Another standard ninja bike set, which we have already gotten 100 times already. Jungle Dragon: Like most people in this thread, this is easily my favorite set of the wave. I love the use of the teal color and the molded dragon head. I'll definitely pick this one up whenever I get the chance. Catamaran Sea Battle: An interesting concept for a set, it kind of reminds me of the set 8624 from Bionicle. But while I like the idea, the set itself looks pretty standard. As everybody else in this thread, I am also baffled by why they decided to give the boat vehicle to Kai instead of Nya. Keeper's Village: Again, interesting concept, but the set itself doesn't look particularly interesting to me. It might have helped if the set was a little bigger and more imposing. Overall, a pretty interesting wave for Ninjago. As it's usual for this theme, the Ninjas themselves are the most boring aspect of the wave, while the villains are easily the stand out here. I love all the new pieces they introduced, like those tribal masks and the Keeper's crown. The collectables in this wave are also quite interesting, they kind of remind me of the Atlantis keys. -
Fantasy Pirates: A LEGO World Builder Project

My ships aren't going to be similar to the Ninjago ships in any way... I was thinking something more like this: I can understand the appeal of the 18th century European style ships like what we usually get from LEGO, but I want my theme to stand out by having more unique ships designs, like the ones I posted above. -

I actually planned on making more unique ship designs instead of the "Classic" ones that have been done several times. Some more Asian-style ships is what I had in mind. -

It's a new LEGO platform that was released in August of this year that allows fans to pitch their own ideas for new original LEGO themes. Unlike LEGO Ideas, this platform is for pitching fully-fledged LEGO themes, not just one-off sets. Here is a link to the site in case you wanna check it out: https://worldbuilder.tongal.com/discover -

Thank you for those cool ideas! I'll make sure to incorporate them into the theme more or less. -
Excellent use of the Meltdown head piece on the body!

I recently teamed up with a couple of friends to create a pitch for a new LEGO Pirates theme to submit to the new LEGO World Builder platform. On of them is doing the concept art, and another one is doing the digital set designs. Here is a logo for the theme that we recently created: We plan on making this line distinct from other LEGO Pirates themes by adding a few mystical elements, while also having a more well-defined cast of characters. The basic story idea is about a group of Pirates who travel across the sea looking for a secret island, and on the way there they encounter various sea monsters and mystical creatures. Here is a Karken prototype set build that we just finished yesterday: The project is still currently in the early development stage, but we hope to eventually have a good looking pitch that would attract LEGO's attention on the LEGO World Builder platform. What are your thoughts on this project? Would you have any suggestions on what other elements to add in it? Let me know by commenting in this thread. If you would like to contribute to this project in any way with your own skills, feel free to DM me, and I'll give you a link to our Discord server dedicated to this project. Any sort of contribution that you can offer to this project would be greatly appreciated. I'll also post updates in this thread as the project progresses.

I agree, but my point still stands. The LEGO Group (or the people working in it) may hide some of the details regarding how well a theme ended up performing. There may be some truth to what they say, but in the grand scheme of things, those themes were probably still cut short due to disappointing sales or other factors like that.
-
Then again, LEGO always seems to try to hide their failures... The official LEGO twitter account said the exact same thing when they were asked about how well the Bionicle reboot performed: And of course, most people who are familiar with Bionicle probably know what actually happened with it, how it was pulled from shelves after only two years, despite the promise of at least a three year run at the NYCC 2014 event where Bionicle's return was first announced. I think the same could be said about something like Nexo Knights... The line was clearly intended to last for a least little longer, as proven by all the concept art it had (which featured various new monsters that never appeared in set form). But NK ended very abruptly in 2018 with a final wave that was clearly just thrown together at the last moment.

The Amazon Prime series is rumored to have nudity in it, pretty much like Game of Thrones. So with that in mind, I don't think LEGO will be interested in making any sets based off it. At this point, LEGO Ideas is probably our biggest chance to get more LotR/The Hobbit sets.
-
Original LEGO themes are usually being developed two years before their release, so with that in mind, I think it's safe to say that Nexo Knights started development around 2014, which is only one year after the last "proper" Castle line. And Nexo Knights lasted from 2016 to 2018, so from LEGO's perspective it's only been two years since we last had a Castle theme. Say what you will about NK, but I am pretty sure LEGO officially considers it a Castle theme, even if most AFOLs probably don't. LEGO probably thought that giving Castle a "Big Bang" twist would make Castle even more popular, but boy where they wrong. Not only did NK suffer from competing with Ninjago, but it also turned away most AFOLs because it was such a big departure from a "proper" Castle theme. The line ended up failing and ended after only two years. It's hard to say what LEGO thinks about LEGO Castle as a whole, but the failure of NK might make them reluctant to release another fully fledged Castle line any time soon. But hey, at the very least we might still get a few Castle-themed sets from LEGO Ideas.

As someone who likes to collect LEGO sets and display them, I am very frustrated by how quickly my sets get dusty, despite the fact that I try to clean them as often as I can. Is there any way to prevent the sets from collecting dust, or at least slow down the rate at which they get dusty? This is a really big issue for me that I don't really know how to properly deal with.

It's just the same Overlord minifigure as the one we got in he first legacy wave, but with a different helmet piece. -

I can't say I am a fan of how the Overlord Dragon looks, but I might end up picking it up anyway for the parts. The molded head and the purple blade elements might be useful for MOCing. -
