Fantasy themes, Elves, and how dolls got in the way.
Gorilla94 replied to jemm13's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The Lego products i buy are like a piece of art to me. I love the smileyfaces and the whole cute design of minifigures. The way vehicles and buildings are made to fit the minifigure scales is adorable. With the consistant design everything fits perfectly together for photomontages or displays. I love everything about that. Even when i was a child a big reason for putting mainly lego on every wishlist was the aspect of compatibility. The minidolls don't fit into that universe. I could live with buying a good friendsset like the blue elves dragon and ignore the minidolls (or "minidoll" thinking about how few there are in the sets) but with the Manga eyes printed on the animals and the colours i mostly don't like 99,9% of the sets are completely uninteresting to me. -
Favourite TLM2 CMF Minifigures and Accessories Poll
Gorilla94 replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It´s a matter of taste. I love all the good costumed minifigures (Gorilla, Lizard, Shark, Chicken, Dragon, Elefant, Penguin, Bunny, Panda.... Rocket suit guy) and with good i mean cute looking instead of cheap like the cactus Girl in only one colour without any detail. They are on my wall and look adorable. That´s why i buy them. Usability is relative. If you want to make a custom figure of Snake from the MGS V: Phantom Pain-Videogame you have the perfect hat with the chicken suit guy. We got a second dirndl. The one from series 11(?) was very popular and Dorothy doesn´t have a yellow chest. She comes with a great hair piece for younger women and girls. She has dual moulded flesh arms, which is allways nice to get. You could put her in a town or a medieval Moc. i will give her short legs and an other hair piece and and use her as Rose, Sam´s Wife in tlotr. Toto is also cute. Except for the red shoes there is nothing to specific about her. She is basicly a very good normal cmf with flesh colour and also a pefect representation of the movie character. I understand the votes. -
Lotr didn´t get a Faramir, Eowyn or even Sauron or the witchking. In the planning of the Hobbit line there was a discussion which dwarfs should be included. With a bit of bad luck we would have got an incomplete Fellowship in both trilogies. Star Wars, the evergreen theme still needs a lot of characters. Same with Harry Potter, the Simpsons and so on. If there isn´t a very, very small group of main characters lego doesn´t care about completion. Look into the Scooby Doo cmf-wishlist-threat. Even with the whole gang and a lot of side characters big fans feel like there should be more. Lego picks the few things most people will buy and for someone who doesn´t play Overwatch ike me it seems they already did the most popular characters with Tracer, Gorilla, Eva, Mercy (even if her face Looks terrible) and the Knight. Like Ninjago (Steampunk, medieval Japan, Modern cars...) Overwatch (Mechs, Cowboy, Ninja...) combines a lot of themes so you can make some interesting sets for Kids even if they do not know the licence. They are the target group. These sets will also appeal to fans of the game and if you are a hardcore fan of Eva you will likely buy the set. If the fans of the licence without any connection to the AFOL community would buy a CMF-Eva for 10€ from a reseller who makes 6€ profit Lego would make much less money than with the set everyone can easily buy. If you want to make Lego look a bit less greedy you could also say for example Evas mech is as much important as herself and fans would miss it in a cmf. A Looney Toons cmf would be more fitting without material like iconic buildings and vehicles for whole sets. On the other hand there are much stronger licences like Disney and Harry Potter(i would ignore the Lego Movie cmfs because it´s as well promoting the own movie as making money from the already known one). If you make one unlicenced series per year, at least one for your own movies and maybe one to a 3rd party licence it´s not the smartest move to choose a videogame, which is already loosing popularity again, compared to a second Disney Series for example. The most important argument is the number and kind of new moulds required. Disney and Harry Potter cmfs have reusable haipieces and accessories. A lot of the new middle earth set moulds like hair pieces and swords are reusable for different themes so it was still ok to do a few more unique beards for the dwarfs. Overwatch needs a lot of very special parts which are completely wothless for Lego in the future if they dont want to produce more OW sets. An Overwatch cmf wont happen like a 3rd. Simpsons series with quite unknown characters like Disco Stu or Fat Tony, even i it would be great for the fans. I can understand the decission.

Rarest set, polybag, piece or minifigure that you own
Gorilla94 replied to Lego David's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My old Nestle Bunny i guess. -
Thank you for that great Review! I The pictures are just awsome :D You nailed exactly the points everyone i talked with about had in mind looking at it. Personally the model gets much worse for me because of the parts, on which the stickers are put. There are a lot of Shops, that can print own designs on Bricks and tiles. It isn´t cheap and some work to draw but i can save my favourite sets that way, when the stickers loose connection. The curved parts make that impossible for me so i would not buy it even if i´d love everything else about it. The funny thing to me is, that the smaller models did a better job in showing the bulky design of the original.

I don't think they are still Impulse buys anymore with 4€ each. Some years ago it was that way and they were sold extremely fast. They now completely dissapeared from the traditional place next to the register in every store i know. I experienced the time becoming longer and longer till they are sold out with high discount which were never necessary. I'd say the AFOLs buying langer amounts for the full price are becoming more and more important at least in my region. I honestly think you are also severely underestimating the amout of resellers speculating on the completionists and buying whole boxes for years, who now stop doing this because their market shrinks. Collectors of whole serieses are not the main group of buyers but still very relevant. It is simply proven that many if not most kids like collecting and completion, too. All sticker and toy blindbags aim on that. Yugioh and Pokemon was never ment to be completed so i would not compare that to be honest. In the beginning of the cmf they were 2€ each, two serieses per year, 16 figures with quite equal numbers per Box and a code was on the blindbag for every figure. It was 32€ twice per year and easy to get them all. Most people were able to get them. The parts were usefull, the figures special. Everything was well done even if for example a Scifi-Figure is not your cup of tea. If you love 15 out of 16 Figures it is likely you will spend 2€ to complete the series with a figure that is just ok for you. If you have 13 out of 14 cmf-series complete you will likely spend some money to get the whole series 14 even if you like only 14 figures out of 16 really much... it depends on each of us where the personal line is. Mr. Gold finished the collecting for a lot of people with great frustration without getting him. The ones who went on with collecting whole serieses mostly said he was not official part of series 10 because he was only on the backside of the paper and similar to the golden C3po. Now we have a price of 4€ per blindbag, more serieses per year, some with more figures per series, no codes to identify without feeling and a 1:60 chasefigure in the last 2 serieses which are shown on the frontpage and without discussion part of the series. It became in fact work to get the whole series and too expensive for most kids ans even some AFOLs. Licenced serieses are different from the regular ones. They are not part of the counting system like Mr. Gold was not in the counting of series 10. They can be easily ignored even by the most addicted collector of the numbered serieses especially if they are flesh, which looks stupid between the yellow guys on display. So they have to be a popular licence (people have to like it at least as much as the generic archetypes of the normal series) and eaqually well made so people want at least most of them and then maybe buy the few ones, which are just ok, because they already have the others. They have to sell even better to refinance the licence. Disney and Simpsons 1 did this. Batman 2 shows exactly how not to do this. The parts are mostly useless outside the specific figure and most customers know nearly none of the without knowledge quite uninteresting characters. So it sells (i use that time on purpose because Batman 2 is still everywhere in shelves with high discount) much worse that any normal series even compared to the quite unpopular series 14. In my opinion the fact, that Lego is now at least getting rid of the stupid idea of a chasefig is a result of the uncountable boxes of unsold figures of series 18 and the amount of time it took to sell the HP-Series. The licence is unbelievable strong and i'd say even as strong as Disney. The fact how long it took at my place compared to Disney back then till they were sold out is making clear how bad chasefigs and the high price are for the concept of collectible blindbags.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
Gorilla94 replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
If i was in the Position to decide, i´d bring Mr. Gold back and put one of him in every Box, so People can complete their collection. Beside of that i want a regular minifigure series with some cute animal costumes and historical figures. But to be honest i expect it to become a series 18 2.0. -

Thank you for the excellent review! Would you kindly tell me what colour Skrulls head is? Co und be interesting for orcs :) -
To be honest i was thinking just about one or two bad figures in a good series like when i bought Syndrome ans Mr. Incredible in die Disney Series 1 to have all.^^' I think Lego destroyed the whole collection-thing in tue cmf-line. There is only one "numbered" series per year (you don't miss for example a skipped Ninjago or Disney series collecting that way). Mr. Gold and the policeman made it more difficult till impossible to complete the whole thing. Batman 2, 18, and ninjago are still easy to find in my City, because noboby wanted them. You see Lego reacting to that by putting 3 series in every LM2-Box.

Fox suit Girl is gorgeous. She even has a tail piece. I don´t think we will get it as much as i´d love to have it in my display. Simpsons 2 and TLBM2 sold extremely bad. I am sure the main problem were the really poor choices for a lot of characters like the lack of Skinner but i doubt Lego will understand this and make a second series to TLM2 just with good figures. With dual moulded legs (or at least sideprinted) a dual moulded Tailpiece (everything else would look pathetic) and a new Headgear-mould this figure won´t appear in a regular set. I am dissapointed we got the boring musicians, the watermelon and pencil suit instead...

I think, this is only relevant to "collectible" series like the cmf-Series and the modular houses. Someone who has a complete Collection of all minifigures or all the houses will buy a minifigure he doesn´t like or the in comparison to the newer ones really bad Corner Garage to still have them all. When there will be some years of bad modulars they will stop, too. The people who collect all Star Wars sets, Marvel Superhero sets or someting like that are just a few. Personally i don´t buy sets anymore since about a year. not because of protest, financial or even space problems. Lego just doesn´t produce products, i am willing to spend money on or want to have in total even if it was for free. So i end up with single new minifigure pieces via bricklink. The biggest thing i bought was the sabertooth. That´s pathetic thinking about the great stuff that was on shelves when i was coming back to Lego: Lord of the Rings/Hobbit. Star Wars, Ghostbusters Ecto 1, Wall-E, Scooby Doo.... There was so much.

Always wanted a Giraffe suit. I'd only wish he had a tail instead of the plant. Would be usefull for a lot of animals in different colours and should have been introduced with the Elephant Girl. Otherwise it looks perfect :3 The raptorbaby is supercute :D -

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
Gorilla94 replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
"Contains one charakter" .... i guess lego doesn´t count this as cmf. It could also be a marketing move. The bag is bigger and Lego treats it as a different product, so it seems more reasonable for the random non-AFOL-consumer to buy one blindbag for that price, even if they get even more expensive... -
If we say fruits and vegetables we´d have also Corn-guy (and the cucumber in Series 18 xD ). I also saw Strawberry-, Peanut-, Chilli-, Carrot-, and Watermelon-Custum-costumes out there. So food costumes seem to have a fan base.

It depends completely on the figure. I adore the giraffe minifigure from the TLM2-Series. The Dragonsuit and Elephant suit are two of my favourite minifigures ever. Some of them are really usefull like the Rocket Kids suit for Fallout-Mocs or the mouse, which Comes with the Elephant girl. As a customiser printing own designs on unprinted Torsos i love getting some new unprinted colors under bodywear parts. or new dual moulded Arms and Legs. My problem is the choices which costumes are made. Some of them are so unbelievable useless. The Melon costume in the new series is also the first one, which is just ugly in my opinion. A pink Melon Looks just wrong. There are much better custom pieces out there for exactly that costume. It uses absolutely useless colors for the legs. I could imagine more than one great series of just costumed minifigures. I can also see Lego doing the worst series ever, if all the figures are like the Melon costume.

Printing and laser cutting replacement cloth sails
Gorilla94 replied to legoman666's topic in LEGO Pirates
The results are impressing! I know it´s a bit off Topic, but can you do smaller items too? I am working on some custom minifigures and search for a possibility to get skirt pieces in colours not availabile from Lego and print them with very very simple details. I´d be very thankfull for a reply :) With Kind regards, Florian -
Thank you for the great review :) Personally i am no fan of Overwatch. Looking at the pictures i don´t understand a lot of choices for the grey mech. For example the feet would be much more accurate with dark bluish grey at the tiptoes. As a set without licence - which it is for me having no emotional Impact or knowlege about it - I´d also don´t rate it very high. Compared with the exo force sets i had as a kid it isn´t very impressing. The amount of Stickers is bad. Rainhardt lacks leg printing. I also don´t like pink very much. I am going to bricklink the knights helmet but the set is not my cup of tea.

To be honest: It depends on the figure. Dragon Suit Guy ad Elephant Girl rocked absolutely. Some of the other Series 18 costumes like the blue reused unicorn, Rocket suit and some others just weren´t interesting to me. I adore the Giraffe in the new Lego Movi 2 Series. The Melon is terrible. They could do a whole Series with GOOD costumes and i would love it. One great Thing about full body suits is: it brings unprinted Torsi, which i Need for printing my own custom designs.
