  1. Yeah, I agree about OT sets doing better on the whole among AFOLs. There's a lot more to mine from in terms of things that would not only look good, but be profitable in a larger scale. However, I do think there are a select few vehicles/environments from the PT that deserve the same treatment (the Jedi Temple, as I mentioned, being one of them). Thanks for that first link, by the way!
  2. I agree with your observations, but I have two points: 1) Do you have a source for the Falcon being the highest grossing set? I wasn't aware that TLG released specific financial results about sets to the public. 2) Of course OT UCS sets have outperformed PT ones if you compare them on the whole - they outnumber them 16 to 5. I'm sure if we compared each of them 1:1, we'd find that certain PT sets sold better. Personally, I'd be curious to see how well a truly "Ultimate" PT set (like, say, a UCS Jedi Temple playset) would do. My guess would be pretty well.
  3. That's because there isn't one...
  4. That does indeed make it sound like it could be a mixed wave! That would be possible; I'm thinking maybe 5 Hobbit sets and 2-3 LotR sets if that's the case.
  5. I didn't notice until now that the doorway and the landing pad can be swapped out in Palpatine's Arrest. I think I prefer the look in the second picture- doorway in the middle, with the landing pad off to the side. I love the set, but have to admit that it seems rather incomplete. Maybe it's the fact that in the films the room is an enclosed space (with the warm colors, red, gold, black, etc. making it seem much more enclosed), but the set itself is so open.
  6. He's referring to the original Kenner "Early Bird" package sold by Kenner in 1977. Due to the fact that Kenner wouldn't have Star Wars action figures ready for production in time for Christmas of 1977, they instead sold the so-called "empty box", which included a certificate to receive the first five Star Wars action figures in the mail. Here's a picture: As for the subject at hand, I definitely have to agree that Hasbro/Kenner has been much more successful. We can only assume that, of course, based on the fact that the line has been going a lot longer. It would be interesting to see how the two have compared over the past 13 years since LEGO SW has been around, however.
  7. Wow, you're right! That hair piece in white would be perfect for Palps. The Clone Wars one just looks....awkward on a movie fig.
  8. Hm...looks like Gandalf has a Dumbledore beard in the video game. Makes you wonder how far back they must have been developing the game, if there are discrepancies like that.
  9. I picked up the Queen Anne's Revenge for $79 at Walmart yesterday. Great deal!
  10. The link's working for me... Anyway, that is an impressive MOC. I agree that it does look like it has the makings of an official set, although I hope the inevitable official Bag End set is a bit larger.
  11. So far I'm a big fan of all the hobbit minifigures, especially Pippin's. It just captures the character so well! As others have mentioned, King Theoden is fantastic in terms of level of detail. It's incredibly impressive, and easily the best Lego minifig I've ever seen in terms of detailing.
  12. I'm not convinced that the two heads are exactly the same; I don't see the pronounced cheekbone or chin detail on the Mace minifig (although it is a small picture, so I could be wrong). Other than that though, you're right. They're pretty much identical.
  13. Couldn't have said it better! That's exactly the way I feel. Any playset in the SW theme is a breath of fresh air at this point.
  14. I'm a little disappointed that the set doesn't include Palpatine's private chambers, as shown here: It is where the duel begins, after all.
  15. I agree. Hopefully it's a double-sided head, with the other side featuring a more "normal" face.
  16. I see where you're going though - I'd love to see a large Jedi Temple set.
  17. From a canonical point of view, that wouldn't make sense. Some kind of Senate set could be possible, although the Senate chambers are in a different building also.
  18. I'm aware of the cost of printing vs. stickers, but there's no denying that 30+ stickers in a single set is ridiculous. Do we really need that many? Lego is smart enough to avoid using them in the set designs if they want to. Take the wood pieces for example- simply using the printed 1x4 tiles that are already found in other LotR sets would have cut down the sticker count. I don't understand their logic there.
  19. It'll be great to find out what's in store next year. Hopefully we can (finally!) expect some Episode II-themed sets.
  20. No kidding. As if the price/piece value wasn't bad enough already.
  21. Wow!! I'm super stoked for this set!!! Granted, it is a little on the small side, but it's pretty well done for its size. It'll be great to have such a faithful representation of Palpatine's office. It looks to me like there are technic bricks located around the base of the set....perhaps for some expansion sets in the future??
  22. So is this event only at that one New Jersey B&N location?
  23. That can't be the issue; otherwise we wouldn't have gotten 30005 a few years ago. I'm sure it will show up in the US eventually.
  24. Nice build! I love the detail work on Max Rebo's organ.
