LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Graupensuppe replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think the cheek lines wouldn't have been necessary. Their actual face looks a bit rounder. But the skin color and the neutral expression nevertheless make it the first truly good face for clones. If Lego hadn't made the torso prints less accurate, this face would totally make me buy some of the summer sets. -
Looks great. I wish Lego wouldn't just focus on the Disney cartoons but also release sets and minifigures based on the comics, for us European fans.

I see four possibilities: 1. Endor rebels (like in the 2015 version) 2. Luke and Vader (like in the 2010 UCS version) 3. Palpatine, his guards, Vader, maybe stormtroopers (like in the 2001 and 2005 versions) 4. Rogue One Vader, stormtroopers, and a scared rebel trooper with the Death Star plans Since Rogue One is pretty well liked I'd say the last option is within the realm of possibility, but I think it's more likely to be based on Palpatine's arrival scene. -
[MOC] General Grievous' Belbullab-22 Starfighter

I just built a mockup of the relevant section from real bricks - Grievous fits if either the yoke is removed or the seat is slightly changed. -
[MOC] General Grievous' Belbullab-22 Starfighter

I'm not sure. In LDD his feet seemed to be too wide, but in real bricks it might work. -
347 pieces. Belbullab-22 and Mankvim-814 starfighters:

That's the worst thing about this wave for me. Actually, not only about this wave, because they're probably going use this style for another few years... -

That would make sense, since the 2010 version is currently the most wanted SW set on Brickset. -

The number didn't decrease slowly over the years though, it changed rather abruptly. There are still lots of characters who probably only haven't been made because they'd need new molds: Cody, Kaminoans, Rune Haako, Republic Commandos, proper AT-RT drivers, Tion Medon, Wat Tambor, Mas Amedda, Dexter, Admiral Trench... I think the molds are still the limiting factor for the characters Lego can make, not the other way round. And while the main characters obvously have to be always available, those who collect for a longer period of time can only be kept interested with an appropriate number of new characters and molds. Especially since Star Wars fans are said to have a tendency to care even about the minor background characters. Ahsoka has noticably shorter lekku than Shaak Ti, and her forehead isn't as high. In my opinion it really doesn't work well. -

Lloyd's hair looks spot-on to me for RotS Anakin. It's looks longer and has the right curliness. It's true that SW always got lots of new minifigure molds. I'm counting no less than 12 per year, sometimes up to 20. But that's why it's so noticable that there are barely any in 2020 - only Jannah's hair, 2 or 3 Knight of Ren helmets, and The Child's head. -

Does anyone else feel the quality of SW minifigures is regressing right now? It's like they're on a tighter budget since 2019. -Hoth rebels used to have leg prints. Since 2019 they don't have them anymore. -Snowtroopers used to have fabric kamas. In the 2019/20 sets they don't have them anymore either. -There used to be X-Wing and Snowspeeder pilots, distinguishable by their hands and prints. As of 2019, all pilots are X-Wing pilots. -The rebel pilots in the 2017 UCS Snowspeeder got arm prints. This hasn't happened again, not even for the UCS Y-Wing. -RotS Anakin still has to use the old TCW hair instead of one of the more accurate pieces that have been created in the meantime - possibly because it was already in production in this color. -Mustafar Anakin and Obi-Wan with burnt robes are re-used in other sets. -We're getting, what, 4 new molds for SW minifigure pieces this year? It used to be 10-20. Even Ahsoka who is a fan-favorite character has to re-use another character's piece. -

9.75 m is (or used to be) the official length. I measured the width and height using reference pictures of the Episode 1 CG model in the "Chronicles: The Prequels" book, but they're probably not completely accurate since the images might have some perspective distortion. As for the 2020 model, I just tried to count the studs/bricks. This one? -

If I calculated this correctly, the old one was a bit too wide and too high, but still not long enough. The new one seems too small to me. Movie 1:42 scale 2009 2020 Length: 9.75 m 23.4 cm 19.2 cm approx. 14.4 cm Width: approx. 7.25 m 17.4 cm 19.2 cm 14.4 cm Height: approx. 4.40 m 10.6 cm 11.5 cm approx. 9.3 cm -

The breast and stomach plates and the helmet are less movie accurate than the 2014-2019 style. They're clearly based on the way the armor looks in the animated show (again). I think making separate designs for TCW clones has always been nonsensical, since the armor they wear is supposed to be the same type as in the movies - it's just that everything looks a bit distorted in the animated show. But to make matters worse, it appears that they're even using this type of minifigure in movie-based sets now. -
I made a wishlist of my favorite prequel-era characters that haven't been made as minifigures yet. (But I can probably forget about getting realistic Rex, now that they're even giving a RotS clone trooper TCW-style prints...)

They aren't Kashyyyk droids, they're AAT drivers from TCW. They were out of place in the Kashyyyk sets. Lego probably only calls them Kashyyyk droids because they're green. -

Does that RotS Airborne trooper have the animated style torso print too?! Please tell me that's not true... -

When the Brick Sketches line was announced I immediately tried to build some myself, and these are the first results.

The 10x10 slopes seem too large to me. If the upper part of the last model is kept, I think it's more likely that they'll use the smaller 6x6 slopes with it: -

If the AAT is based on TCW and includes a clone, he'll probably be the same style as the 501st troopers. Grievous' starfighter seems to be based on episode 3 though, in that case I hope they'll continue to use the 2014-2019 style or at least keep it similar. In my opinion giving clones in TCW sets a separate style of prints is stupid enough - the type of armor is supposed to be the same as in the movies, it's just that everything looks a bit distorted in the animated show. Making the AotC/RotS minifigures less accurate than before by giving them the TCW prints too would be even more stupid. -
Includes a male and a female Varactyl, Obi-Wan, Zyn Javeb, two more Pau'ans, and an Utai. 352 pieces.

I like skinny legs on people, but not on AT-ATs! But I do like that the dual-molded rebel pilot helmet really seems to be dead now. -

I didn't like the Great Hall, Whomping Willow, or Clocktower playsets, but the Astronomy Tower looks nice. Unfortunately it's still not really possible to connect the buildings the way they are in the movie...
