EBAY SCAM: UCS Millennium Falcon10179 - £186.99 NEW
Lobot replied to skyliner's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Well, I'm very pleased to say that Ebay have just removed this one! It seems weird that their being really slow to close some of the scams, but not others. Ah well, all we can do is keep reporting them (actually I'm making it a bit of a personal crusade!) -

And another one for the UK : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEGO-Star-Wars-10179-UCS-Millennium-Falcon-Brand-New-/250885466507?pt=UK_Construction_Toys_Kits&hash=item3a69f0698b Actually, I think that this might be another hacked account (which happened a couple of weeks ago) as it's been dormant since 2008. I've just reported it to Ebay, hopefully they'll remove it quickly. -
3.5 hours, now that's impressive!! Even if the bricks are well sorted that's incredibly fast; I've built mine twice and I guess I clocked over 20 hours each time! I wonder if there is an unofficial record for this? I saw a clip on youtube a while ago of a speed build, but this was by a team of about 10 people! Anyway, back on topic, I'm expecting a 10-12 hour build for this (and I'm not going to use the bag numbering!!)

Great review dcflake, thanks! Some great photos, especially the engines! I’m going to order this at the end of the month; I’ve made a deal with myself that if I don’t buy any more Lego until then I can have one! The new Lego Autumn catalogue arrived today and they are offering free shipping until the 30th September, and extra VIP points on orders over £50, which is a bit of an incentive. I completely accept the (obvious) limitations of the set, and the cost is towards the top end of what I’m happy to pay, but it still looks very impressive.

I’m glad that Ebay seem to have finally taken some action about this. I reported 3 separate listings, but I didn’t receive anything from them apart from the standard automated reply. I was really surprised that one of them was still showing 24 hours after I’d reported it (and I clearly wasn’t the only one doing this), especially considering the amounts involved. I just hope that everyone gets a refund. -
Excellent work Brickdoctor! The shape looks very accurate, and I really like the detailing on the wings You must have a lot more patience than me; I’ve tried using LDD a couple of times and it drove me nuts!

I have two brothers who were a lot older than me, so when I reached 6 or so I acquired all of their bricks (all fairly basic, it was the early 80’s!) which were a lot of fun. One of my brothers was very keen for me to play with Lego and I migrated through the early Space sets into the first Technic ones. I had fond memories of building a pneumatic digger (8851) when I was in my early teens, those were the days! Then I drifted onto other things and passed on my collection to my nephew. A few years ago my wife bought me the UCS Motorised AT-AT (10178) as a Christmas present. She new that I had a thing about Star Wars, and to be honest I think it was intended as a bit of a joke, but I was totally hooked! I haven’t looked back since!

A remake of 4479 would be great, although I guess that most fans would link it to the asteroid scene in ESB rather than ROTJ? Perhaps I need to watch it again.....! I’d like to see a remake of 7264, but I can’t see that happening whilst the UCS version is still in production.

If the box is in nice condition it should be worth around £500-£600. It will be interesting to see if the release of the Executor has any impact on their average value in the next couple of years, I have a suspicion that the value may drop slightly, but not much. I'd love one, but I'm saving up for the Executor at the moment!

Amazon UK have a couple of good deals at the moment: Naboo Fighter (7877) for £30.43 (26% off): http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEGO-Star-Wars-7877-Starfighter/dp/B004OT6NAY/ref=sr_1_18?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1314521923&sr=1-18 Sith Infiltrator (7961) for £49.60 (20% off): http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEGO-Star-Wars-7961-Infiltrator/dp/B004OT6NWW/ref=sr_1_9?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1314521629&sr=1-9

Excellent work ACPin (as usual!) The light panels, in particular, look amazing I like the way that you have built these sections vertically; did you use a technic frame to make it stable, or are they supported by the grey half-round cylinders? Have you got any plans for a ESB community build? I might be tempted to join in!

It looks like there may be a problem with the hacking of UK Ebay accounts, which everyone should be aware of. A couple of nights ago a UK seller suddenly advertised 6 x Falcons as a 'Buy it Now' for about £180 inc delivery. I immediately thought it was too good to be true, but when I looked at the feedback it looked very convincing (longterm seller, occasional reasonable value sales over a long period) and I'll admit that I was really tempted. However, within a couple of hours Ebay had pulled the plug on the listing; I was so glad that I resisted temptation!

I'm amazed that Ebay haven't done anything about this yet. 163 Falcons & 110 Death Stars sold to date; I've also reported the seller, but a couple of days later they're still available! Also, I've just noticed it looks like another UK account may have been hacked (like a couple of days ago)....two very 'cheap' Falcons available, but the advert wants payment via a direct Paypal invoice! It's got to be a total scam (again); it will be interesting to see if everyone caught up in this will get a refund, time will tell I guess. -
Amazon currently have the new Millennium Falcon (7965) for £101.60: http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEGO-Star-Wars-7965-Millennium/dp/B004OT8HJO/ref=sr_1_1?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&s=kids&ie=UTF8&qid=1314295002&sr=1-1 You'll probably need to be quick though!

That’s a massive collection mutley, very impressive! I’m not a real fan of PT but the Kashyyyk Troopers look really cute they must have cost a fortune! Are you going to stop when you reach 1000?

I'd prefer a UCS Lobot myself.....Ok, I do realise that I'm probably in the minority on this one! In all seriousness either of these sets sound great; I guess that we'll just have to wait & see.

I saw this last night and thought that it was too good to be true, although I admit that I was very tempted for a minute! The seller originally advertised 6 and these were all sold in about 15 minutes. It was strange though, they weren’t new to ebay, and the feedback I saw did look pretty genuine (odd items, over a decent period of time & UK based) Ah well, I’m just glad that I didn’t get sucked in! -
Following on from the cheap Death Star conversation : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEGO-Star-Wars-10179-UCS-Millennium-Falcon-Brand-New-/160641702256?pt=UK_Construction_Toys_Kits&hash=item2566fdd970 I'm almost tempted to have a punt at this; for anyone feeling brave good luck! Actually it looks like a longterm ebayer, it just seems too good to be true.... Mods - please feel free to remove this post if it's not appropriate (apologies in advance if it is )

Thanks Dr D. for the info I realised after I had posted the question it was a bit random & subjective! I happily wasted a lot of hours building my falcon, and I really enjoyed it, so a long build time sounds good. I know that this isn’t perfect (flat base, in particular) but it’s pretty impressive overall and I know that I’ll always regret it if I don’t end up buying one!
-
Hi DrDave, I’ve just been reading your excellent review (again) and I was wondering what was the approximate build time? Also, do you know if it’s still being released on the 1st September? (the Lego website is currently showing ‘Coming Soon on null’). I’m really tempted to get this one! Cheers, Robin

I hope it works out ok for you, but as the saying goes ‘if it looks to good to be true, it usually is!’ Perhaps I’m a bit too cautious, and you should be covered by Paypal/Ebay anyway Is it possible that someone has started to copy official Lego sets? I guess that if anyone wanted to do it, this would be a likely target (high value, popular); even with differing exchange rates, they’ve got to be selling them at a considerable loss......
-
Excellent review Brickdoctor, this must have taken you hours to create! This is a really nice set, and pretty good value (although it was even better before Lego hiked the price!).
-
Very nice StoutFiles! I especially like the forest floor & the amount of detailing that you added to it My only thought is that the tree looks a bit ‘blocky’ (and yes, I do realise that lego has limitations! ); have you seen the versions by Brickplumber? I’d like to replicate one eventually, but I guess they require a lot of brown bricks!
-
Hi Marshal_banana, I’ve been looking at the photos of this on flickr and it looks amazing! Do you have any more photos of the engine modification? I’d really like to copy this part of your design if you don’t mind? Any additional details would be really appreciated, such as the number of LEDS & battery packs used etc. Would it be possible to easily ‘retro-fit’ the modification, or does it require a significant rebuild of the internal frame? Cheers, Robin

Really great review, thanks Rufus! I must admit that I’m not that impressed by this set, it just looks a bit plain somehow, and unfinished. Perhaps if they had added a bit more detail it would have looked better. I know that 10178 is less accurate, and not very pretty, but it’s a far better set in my opinion. I have some very fond memories of building it on Christmas day a few years ago, and was amazed to see it lumbering across the floor; even my dad, brother & wife were impressed! Each to their own, I guess
