Phes, don't be such a wet blanket! I personally think it looks very much like a painting.

Fantastic MOC SlyOwl! There are very few things I don't like about it. Your lines are clean, your rigging is supurb (although you cheated and didn't tie the ratlines) and your colours are brilliant. But some things to think about: The spanker sits to high on the main mast. The spritsail is too far forward on the bow sprit, and it would only have a lower yard if it had a second spritsail, else it would just be held in place by rope. The catheads are too small, and too low. Perhaps try extending them out and bringing them up a little. Try adding a second vertical part on each side of the headrails. Other than that, I think it's brilliant! And she certainly has some bad-megablocks cannons on board! What is the piece holding the lantern up above the helm?

Looks great, reminds me of a true painting. Well done. Where do you want it moved to?

Eurobricks Target Age Group
Captain Zuloo replied to Siegfried's topic in Forum Information and Help
I don't think that is entirely fair, there's no reason why a mature adult (or TFOL for that matter) can't like the Clone Wars enough to make their display name based around it. -
MOC: Santa Fe Western 4-4-0 Locomotive
Captain Zuloo replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Now I don't speak from experience, but perhaps it's because there are 2 non-turning drivers at the back. That would mean that when the train gets to a curve in the track, the front wheels want to turn and the back wheels want to keep going straight. For instance, if you take a wagon (with a two-wheel bogie at each end) and you fix one bogie so it doesn't turn, you'll encounter the same problem. To remedy this, try swapping the front flanged driver with a blind driver and see if it fixes the problem. Try it out and let me know, I'd be interested to see if I'm right or not. -
Thanks Jeff, and again thank you for the jumpers. I think I have enough left to build an armada with! The compass was found in the later sets of the original pirates line 6291 and 6290. Don't say sorry, he deserved it. And I think people enjoyed her at BV. I was planning to do the glass, but I didn't want to make a Bricklink order just for those parts. I'll probably redo it. Thanks Blackmoor! And thanks for the frontpage. Thanks mate, and I really do appreciate your suggestions and feedback along the way. I did intend to photoshop your sigfig's hair green, but I forgot. Thanks for the compliment. I think it is more fun too. Not sure if I'm allowed to tell anyone the secret. I'll confirm I won't get keelhauled, then I'll PM you. Thanks Luke, it's great to have a builder as good as you give my MOC such a nice comment. Unfortunately she has no interior. Although I can take a photo with the sides off to show you the internal structure. Working out how to make it appear as though more wind is in the sails is quite high on my to-do list, although it might be a tricky task due to the amount of string holding them on to the yards, and even holding the yard up! Thanks mate, I really do appreciate you taking the time to help me out when I got stuck. Hahaha, he so deserved that. For the time being, she is a standalone project. Unfortunately, to get the line correct, I had to sacrifice an interior. I wanted to keep her fairly low in the water, didn't want it to look too short and stubby. Next I plan to build a steam train, and I believe that has its own challenges, much like detailed sailing ships. But I do hope to build a Dutch East Indian trader at some point, also in minifig illusion scale. Great to see you over from Train Tech TheBrickster! Thank you for your compliment, although I think the HMS Prince of Whales would probably eat Le Grandeur for breakfast with so many more guns. Although my frigate might have the advantage of speed. Thanks for your comments all!

That's fantastic! You have put so much detail and functionality into such a small van, well done. When you build your next batch of them, could you please take some more photos of the sliding door mechanism, I'm interested in how you did it. And how sturdy are the lights at the back? And you could always remove the 1 x 1 clear plate at the bottom to reduce the height. Well done mate, I'm really impressed.

That was lifted a while ago as some members who make less, but longer posts were missing out.

What are your Top 3 Favorite Elements from the 2009 Pirate Wave
Captain Zuloo replied to Dr. Steve's topic in LEGO Pirates
Interesting topic! My favourite parts would have to be: Golden epaulettes Telescope (I hope we see this part in brown in the future) Metalic cannons Well done LEGO! -
The port looks really nice, as does your ship. I can't say I'm a fan of the BB sails on the IF, but that's not your fault. I just don't see them fitting together. But nice MOC port!

MOC: Santa Fe Western 4-4-0 Locomotive
Captain Zuloo replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Woot! Spot on TheBrickster! This train has certainly improved a whole heap since the first version that you shared (although that one was cool too)! Even if you hadn't lowered the cab, the colours would have made it look lower anyway I think. Looks much better, and fits the detail of your first wagon really nicely. I can't wait to see this project finished. Do you plan to power it in any way? -
Yes, but the Unicorn isn't close to historically accurate, she is far too long and narrow. If the objection is to build the ships from the books, they'll need to be historically accurate, and to scale (or at least to minifig illusion scale like Sang Royale).

Power Function with the Holiday Train?
Captain Zuloo replied to fnorfurfoot's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Did the Holiday Train come as an electrified version? -
Yeah, she saw what a big imagination you have!

In honour of her role in the film, she was renamed HMS Surprise after Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World was released.

Perhaps this website might help. I've never used it, but I know a number of EB members have.

Nice work there! I particuarly likr the ice cream vendor on the end of the platform. Any intentions of turning this into a reality? And check out this Deeplinking Tutorial.
-
I did indeed, and your colour scheme is very nice too. I suppose the only thing that could make it more schooner-ish, would perhaps be that the hull should be more narrow. But this wasn't possible with the BB hull, so I think you did a good job. Threads on Eurobricks tend to get more attention if they have images in them, particuarly in the first post. If you would like to perhaps set up your Brickshelf account with your images (no bigger than 800 x 600), I can add the pictures to the first post for you so you can see how it is done.

It could be that the eBay seller doesn't think anyone will WANT to pay shipping to outside the US. So perhaps it might not hurt to drop the seller a message just letting them know you are happy to pay international shipping, and would they consider posting the item to you.
-
I believe you may find Admiral Bejaune's Sang Royale useful. She is a 64 gunner, but it shows it is possible to build ships of that size on the prefab hulls. But remember that ships sich as this are illusion minifig scale. If you want to build something genuinely minifig scale, you will have to use a brick-built hull.
-
Very impressive creation! Maxifigs are always hard to build when attempting to get the proportions correct. You have done a good job on the proportions in this fig, and the shape of the helmet is another high achievement, and I'm very impressed by your ability to build such a shape. Well done.

MOC: Airbus A380
Captain Zuloo replied to reload's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, as I mentioned at Brickvention, there aren't that many true minifig-scale sailing ships around. -
Does indeed look interesting. I have joined this group, I'll see if I can come up with something for the contest.
-
Yet again a supurb build Tony! I'm really loving your MOCs, mate, they all share a great amount of detail and dedication. You did very well here, although I perhaps would have liked a little more randomness and texture in the walls. Still, only minor, you did a very nice job.

The Skull Beneath The Skin - Pirate Hideout
Captain Zuloo replied to Derfel Cadarn's topic in Pirate MOCs
Wow Luke, this is supurb! Your MOCs always have such a great attention to detail. I love how you have made something so ordinary look so unique. If I was a pirate, I'd certainly be hiding out here! Well done mate.
