  1. Thanks for the instructions and inventory, Yaktuu, I'm looking for the parts I already own, and will buy the ones I don't get on Bricklink
  2. I saw The Life of David Gale and it's really en excellent movie ! Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet play their role perfectly, and the actors and events are realistic. The end of the movie is a spectacular turn of the plot (I could never have anticipated that). The movie itself do not takes position for or against the death penalty (its context) : it only shows the facts. One of the most interesting movie I saw this year. 9,5/10
  3. The Spain-France match yesterday was totally boring. Even if I'm french, I can't deny that our national team was without energy against dynamic spanish players. It's really deceiving, and I will lapidate their team bus when they'll come back here (humor) Spain deserves its victory and was clearly stronger than us . But confronting teams like Germany could be way harder !
  4. The City mine sets have the same problem with yellow and light-bluish grey bricks. The other bricks (black, dark-buish grey) don't have this problem. I compared the new bricks to some older ones and the difference is obvious. But it's not the only problem with these bricks. They do not connct as weel as the old ones. They are more fragile. Most of all - I took a PotC set - they tend to squeak when you pivotate them, and for the mecanical parts, the move is not flowing. Older parts such like minifigs do not have that kind of problem. I sent an e-mail to TLG about that yesterday. I hope they will answer soon and act. Otherwise, I don't know what I will do if, in a nearby future, every part is every set get the same issues. But ignoring this quality lowering problem will never be a solution, excepted if you really want our brand to become Megablocks-like.
  5. I saw a 1983 fake documentary called Threads, the story of two english families living in Sheffield, UK, during a nuclear conflict between Russia and America. Quite horrible to see in fact. Fortunately it never happened, but seeing the consequences of such a war is rather afraiding. I do not recommend this to you ! Fortunately I discovered the movie Serenity yesterday and I just said "Woaw !" I really appreciate the science-fiction adventure movies ! It reminded me Star Wars, in some aspects. Isn't the Firefly commander another Yan Solo in fact ?
  6. Impressive airship Ssorg The envelope made of self-dimensionned white paper appears to me as a good choice, as a brick-built one would have been less esthetic, and also because here is no Lego sail that could be used for such a design. The structure of the upper part looks strong and light. The little handle on top of it make it easily swooshable. The gondola is a great success too, as it fits perfectly with the enveloppe above. The gondola even get functionalities like the entrance door and the accessible interior. The minifigs are a great seletion too !
  7. I bought this set and I think I shouldn't have, because most of it is not interesting. The vehicles are cool, and the figs too, but the hideout is clearly a big fail in my opinion. It's made of big blocks approximately assembled for a curious result. There are many cool city sets actually, but this one, like the little hospital and the big garage, are not interesting, and cost too much. Thanks for this review !
  8. I work for IT tech support in a french international enterprise. I've always wanted to work in informatics, and this enterprise is cool too, we get several advantages. It's always great to help the employees with their minor informatics problems. The challenge is to translate your IT tech language into their common human being language I've done several jobs before this one, but they were not satisfying (dishwasher, IT seller in a supermarket, fish vendor, workman in leather gloves factory and roquefort cheese factory, food warehouse manager, prefabricated houses assembler, etc). After all that I deceided to move in another city with more opportunities, to find a job I would appreciate to do.
  9. I really hope that it will be available on Bricklink shops as Super Lots !
  10. I'm very impressed by this Haunted Mansion that has a perfect design quality. It's too bad that the video was made private, as a wanted to see the functionalities of this set. There's plenty of space inside the manor, however I think that the interior should have been worked more, as the rooms seems quite empty. The figs are great and the accessories too ! Definitely a big "Must Have" for me Excellent job here
  11. Reviewer too, not surprised because it's the case ! I analyze every set that come to the shelves and track the web for new ones
  12. You're right, we must precise that the Bricklink system and the Paypal payment system are totally separated. When you receive a Bricklink Invoice in your mail box, you use Paypal to deliver the money to the seller, and the seller receive this money on its Paypal account. Paypal is not concerned by this attack. The only problem would happen if you get the same password on Bricklink and Paypal accounts. The hackers could have taken the Bricklink password and try it with your e-mail address on Paypal. Change Bricklink and Paypal passwords and everything will be okay. You should also change your e-mail box password if it is the same as the Paypal or the Bricklink one. The three passwords must be different and, most of all, complicated. But, of course, if a hacker found the way to modify the content of the Invoice and puts its Paypal address... he will get your money, instead of the seller.
  13. The use of a light brick is really a good choice and adds a particular atmosphere to this scene. The soldiers' wearings are well chosen too, very good creation you've done here
  14. It's curious, because there's a recent rumor that says that the Hollywood Pictures store will soon be replaced by a Lego store in the Disney Village in Disneyland Paris... Strange coincidence, isn't it ?
  15. I saw No Limits, a thriller with Samuel L. Jackson, and it was a very good surprise, though the theme of the movie is not recommended to young people (some parts of the movie need the person that watch it to be old enough, to be able to have hindsight about the facts we see happening, and analyse them correctly). The movie has some very hard scenes (physically and morally), but reveals one of the bigger problematic in our modern democratical societies, that have morale limits while their ennemies have not. I could compare this movie to Seven, on many aspects. I also saw a movie called Quantum Apocalypse, a movie where you are supposed to see some scientists saving the world from destruction by a comet. I almost felt alsleep after 30 minutes and stopped the torture at 40. I have seen a lot of movies, and of course a lot of bad movies, but this one is such a critical failure that I can't imagine it has been produced. Did nobody in the staff noticed how bad it was and told that to the producer ? But I also saw a memorable scene for me : In the movie, internet is totally cut, but a mad scientist is still working on his antique computer (an Amiga...). One of its colleagues says : - "Hey, internet no longer works, don't you know ? - I know, but I changed the DNS !" As I am an informatician, I can hardly imagine that changing a DNS parameter will allow two computers connected to internet to keep their connection, when internet is down. It's like saying "Oh, no electricity in the whole city!" "Don't worry, I change the fuses !" The Amiga this extraordinary man uses doesn't even have a TCP/IP protocol... Oh, and with its antiquity, he managed to calculate astronomical data better than the NASA supercomputers...
  16. So, you think an acceptable Cuusoo project would be an uncommon set created for AFOLs, but that could not shock the parents of the core-target audience ? It's an interesting idea. You also precise that in the case of a licensed theme, the license universe must not be inappropriate for young buyers. I agree with this too, but based on this, Lego can have a clear list of all the inappropriated licences. I'm aware of the fact that AFOLs represent a small part of the Lego sales, but Lego does not know precisely the part of the AFOLs sales, because an AFOL buys far more Lego than any other member of their core-target audience. Personnaly I buy nearly 10 sets per month, and the core-target audience buys 3 per year. There is also a difference between the price of the sets bought. Lego should continue to do investigation about the minority we are, as we are uncommon buyers. You think that a "Designed for Adults" section would be very negative, but what about the Architecture theme ? What they should do is some kind of Architecture theme... but not limited to monuments. And I must also mention that despite the fact that we are not the core-targeted audience, we tend to increase in their population of buyers far more than the core-targeted audience. The Star Wars licence has done a lot in this sense. Concerning the success of a Cuusoo project, the problem now is that non-Lego communities use Cuusoo to have "their" licenced set, and it is at the expense of the AFOLs projects. When I see the Firefly project gaining 7500 votes in one week, I think there is a problem here. Maybe the Cuusoo should be reserved to active VIP members only to prevent that kind of abuse. I really hope the Western Modular Town will be produced now as there is no non-Lego community behind it. It's purely an AFOL project supported by AFOLs, and not massively promoted by a third-part community. Lego could even combinate the Western Town with the DeLorean time machine, as both projects reached the 10.000 AND are not a problem towards the core-targeted audience. The other thing Cuusoo should do is to anticipate the 10.000 on a potentially controversial project, to be able to publish quickly an argumented decision after the review step is reached. As you question me, I don't think Lego should raise the number of voters needed for a project to be reviewed. This decision would favour the third-party communities and make the things more difficult for the AFOLs. The only thing to do is to limit Cuusoo to the AFOLs only. As long as anybody can become a Cuusoo member, vote for a project and never come back again, there will have a problem.
  17. The actual CUUSOO rules allow the licensed sets. It's written on the website. But one good evolution is that they now refuse the re-release proposals (like "please re-release UCS Millenium Falcon" etc) and have removed such projects from the website. But just do a quick search and you'll see a ton of unserious projects. I don't think people will stop to post such projects. It's to the Lego group to block inappropriate projects. I don't propose projects to CUUSOO because I would need to make a stunning MOC to illustrate it, and I don't know how to MOC. But of course there's a lot of ideas that Lego could investigate and release with success, like the Town Hall modular did. The concept of modular itself is a very good thing, but actually the Lego group only limit this to city basements. When will we have a big modular space base, or a modular Star Wars UCS with fully detailed interiors ? The problem is that the Lego group is asking for new ideas, but will not really try extraordinary things such like very huge sets, uncommon city basements like factories, big houses, universities, schools, mid-eastern or far-East architecture based sets, etc. They ask uncommon things, but that would fit with their "common set" concept. If I am disappointed by the refuse of the Winchester, it's not because I like this project, but because the real reasons are not really clear, so nobody knows if a project will really be released as we have no explanation about the limits. Can a 100.000 parts projects be released ? What is exactly the "target age" they're talking from in the brief explanation of the refuse ? Can't we have a "license limit" clearly defined, about the licenses that will never be released for financial or rival brand reasons ? Is a military theme possible, or absolutely not ? If a proposed set is approved, will it be released exactly like the MOCer did it, or will Lego design it with their own designers ? The problem with CUUSOO is that we get no clear limits explained. Since the beginning some rules have been added, but it's not enough, in my opinion. You are talking about the fact that Lego is a family-friendly brand, and I agree with that, but will a family buy a UCS for a 6 years old kid ? What is their position about the price question ? Most of the families can't afford a 600 euros / dollars set, as you can imagine. You are also saying "how would Lego market a set not designed for kids ?", but personnaly I live in a not-so-poor region in France where I never saw a modular or a UCS on the shelves... It's not that difficult to put a "Designed for adults fans" category on the Shop, with sets that will not necessarly appear in the toy stores catalogs. About the Lego brand values, couldn't they clarify them too ? At least, it could be a base. And I think it's not very fair that they keep projects on the CUUSOO website, with people who vote for them, even when TLC knows they will never release them, like the stormies bucket. Isn't the fact that the core target audience is 6-11 paradoxical with releasing a set that is not a core target theme such like City / Spaceships / Castle / Friends ? In this case, we can throw out every project that do not match themes familiar to children. But, then, what would be the interest of CUUSOO, actually ? They want brand new ideas but only for core targeted themes ? How could we decently do that ?
  18. Really impressive, a lot of details, it is excellent !
  19. I'm really deceived that the Winchester will not be released. The reasons given by Lego are just excuses. Just look at the Indiana Jones sacrificial ceremony in the temple... It is not considered "gore" ? The other thing is that most of the CUUSOO voters are AFOLs, and the reason to not release the Winchester is that it do not match with young buyers. It is really paradoxical. So if the CUUSOO projects are really aimed for 6-11, I see no reason for AFOLs to look at this website I just had a laugh when I saw the Star Wars Bucket of 100 Stormies and the Little Pony thing. The Back to the Future project is more serious but has nothing else than a DeLorean to offer. As some said before me, the only interesting project now is the Western Town, but after the Winchester being rejected, I can imagine a million reasons for Lego to refuse even if the 10k is reached. I will simply forget the Cuusoo thing as it is not considered seriously by the Lego group. I will try to find some MOC plans instead, and eventually buy them to their creators. It is far more satisfying than what Lego does for AFOLs.
  20. I was born in Lille too, welcome to Eurobricks
  21. I really like your stop-motion video about one of our most famous books
  22. My Dark Ages period lasted from 2001 to 2009. However, I have bought some Star Wars sets during this period (Jabba barge, ISD UCS, some Bricklink orders), but it was very rare. I don't remember exactly how I felt down in the Dark Ages, it was a complicated period of my life, many changes, and my only hobby was video games (Star Wars Galaxies, for those who know). I came back from my Dark Ages... just after seeing Citizen Kane and understanding the meaning of Rosebud. I realised what I really wanted to do in my whole life. Seeing the MOCs or collections of others AFOLs definitely convinced me When I was young I had a lot of Lego. I had a room dedicated to my Lego city - Lego Star Wars weren't existing at that time. I was mostly creating basements and stories in my city, and was very enjoyed to receive a new set from my parents. I had something like 150 minifigs and was playing a lot with a friend having minifigs too. There was a severe competition about the number of minifigs I gave most of the Lego I owned to charity during my Dark Ages. I have no regret for that. Now I own 10 times more Lego than before, and something like 937 minifigs I will try to meet other AFOLs around here in the future, and I will try to go to a Lego event (unfortunately, there are not a lot of Lego events in the south of France), most of them are in the east and it's impossible to go there in car - you get to have a ten-hours travel, and with MY car, it is very long
  23. I saw the computer-animated film "Up !" yesterday, and I can say it's the best film I watched since years . When you watch it, you go from tears to laugh, it really talks to the heart. The Old Man looks purely authentic and the film catch the atmosphere of what could be "being old", with old things all around, with its habits, its memories, the time slowering. Then arrives the adventure itself, and you're taken with a lot of humoristic characters in a quest that has only sense for the one that accomplish it. At the end of the film, I had a feeling of simple and strong happiness, a very good emotion
  24. I had noticed this detail when I built it, but I didn't knew why this was written. Thanks for learning it to me !
  25. It's really a good thing that the CUUSOO webpage was updated and now shows your project Now, we have to wait, and it's the most difficult part for us : the suspense ! But apparently the things moved a little as Lego decided to revise the CUUSOO projects submission system, adding a step for the new projects. It's a good thing they made this, as it shows that they're having a deeper look into the CUUSOO idea. It will also prevent unappropriated projects that could never be released. As I told in my previous post, you gave CUUSOO the opportunity to define its limits At the moment we do not know what the Lego team will decide, but I hope they will satisfy the fans who liked the MOC, the Shaun of the Dead universe, the zombies and the Modular buildings !
