After looking each of the 2012 City sets in detail, I can say that I will buy each of them, as they really give originality in the classical subthemes, interesting vehicles and nice minifigs. The other 2012 themes do not persuaded me though, excepted some Star Wars sets like the Tie Fighter. Now I'm waiting for the new Modulars !

Excellent detailed scene commemorating those who lost their lives in this tragedy, especially the firemen of New York City. Thanks for them.

It's quite senseless to ask on a forum full of Lego fans such a question. It appears to me quite provocative. It's like saying "hey you guys fans of shitty Alpha Romeo, which better car brand would you recommend me ?" I would recommend you to use your brain, if your Lego brand trauma hasn't damaged it too much

I like the colors you used as they highlight the front decorations and basement details. As a lot of people I saw the news about the earthquake, and felt really sorry about this. I hope your city will soon be fully reconstructed. Do not hesitate to share with us other buildings you MOCed in New Zealand, as you get an obvious talent to recreate them in Lego bricks

I really like this strange and funny design, good job

I bought some good sets this month, the Imperial Shuttle UCS 10212 (the only UCS that interest me in fact) the city Public Transport Station 8404 (I'm actually building a Lego city I called Providence) 6 meters of tracks for the trains the Alien Conquest Tripod Invader 7051, Earth Defense HQ 7066 and a battle pack the Technic Motorized Excavator 8043 (best technic model in my opinion) and the King's Castle 7946 ( I planned to buy it for a while and found it on sale) As I had some spare euros I took the 4867 Hogwarts to complete the 4842 Hogwarts Castle, and use it as a college for my city Also took 37 minifigures (series 1, 3 and 5)

Really funny little scenes I love the cotton-made battle against the octopuss

I really like this Pizza Corner ! Congratulations for this nicely architectured MOC

Excellent review, even if I've decided to buy this set only if it get a big discount. 400€ is way too expensive, even for an european collector like me. The set design quality itself is debatable.

I really don't know about it here in France, I've never been in one of those shops ( and everybody will tell you the same thing )

I just had a look at an encyclopedia and effectively addiction is defined as something we can't control. So, I would rather say that you should choose the thing that is a real passion for you, but with setting your limits to this passion. Unlimited passion could become a true addiction ; and the addiction to Lego buying could lead to a critical financial situation, completed by unsocialization. Notice that it's not as easy to say a colleague that we spend a lot of money in Lego as adults, compared to spending in cars, sports or travels, etc. I think it's just because building, collecting and playing with toys as adults is not a really common thing. But every AFOL knows that more than that, Lego can be a passion. I don't know a lot of toys adults would buy for themselves. And, no, I will not talk about toys we can find in some specifics discrete rose-colored shops

The problem is that you think that being addicted to something is bad. In fact, everyone get its addictions. It can be drugs, alcohol, television, video games, cigarette, but also sports, music, litteracy, painting, work, cleaning the house, garage sales, collecting stamps, doing scientific researches, hunting criminals or animals, having the more money as possible, practicing religion, doing treks in the nature, gardening, dancing all the night, doing masonry, etc. Almost everything can become an addiction as it can be a passion. Being addicted in a reasonable measure is necessary to keep a safe life. Having no addiction at all would remove all excitement to your life. You must sometimes cut the link to the "real" life to stay positive in your real life. The brain must focus on a pleasant activity from time to time, a thing it likes to do, to stay in good health. But as you mentionned, addiction can have negative and catastrophic effects too. It happens when it becomes the unique obsession you get - like having as many as Lego sets regardless your real life financial situation. That's why you must set your own limits. I personally calculated how much I could spend on Lego each month when all is paid, and will never spend more. It's the same thing to do with every addiction you can choose. But I would recommend to also have other activities than Lego. Lego shouldn't be your unique hobby. There's a ton of other funny things to do : watching movies, socializing, playing sports, etc. Lego can be your main hobby, of course, and you can spend a lot of money on it, no problem. Just be reasonnable enough to decide your limits for this activity. And it will stay a safe activity. Don't forget to live, too. Doing your job seriously, having a wife and maybe children, keeping contact with family if possible, and most of all, exercise your freedom to choose the life you want, where you want to live, what you want to do. Just choose your addictions wisely :)

I'm 100% french, born in the north of the country, and living in the south. About french canadians, I must precise that they have a real cultural identity and language particularities. For example, it is quite difficult for french people to understand them speaking, as they use frenchified english words, or words that do not exist in France, while french from France tend to use american words. Their traditions, country and history are also significantly different from the France's ones. Though they've come from France long ago, it would be an error to say they are just french. They're our cousins ! So, the term of french canadians seems appropriate to me. And for a lot of aspects, my opinion is that their country is better than France. Too bad I can't move there ! They even get the 8th Wonder of the World : maple sirup :p

I really like this little city, with so many details we can see in Star Wars scenes

Making a living off trading Lego
Larrynautik replied to wokajablocka's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Mark Twain said "They didn't know it was impossible so they did it". The only way you have to know is to try ! But personally I would keep my job and see if the shop is profit-making. Of course the question is to know if you will be able to spend your whole days to get Lego parts in your hands. It will no longer be a hobby, but a full-time job. Of course you'll need some money to start, a good knownledge of the shipping costs, and determinate what you want to sell : sets, parts, minifigs, or rare old boxes. But you must also know that a lot of people will not believe in your project, just because you have a project, regardless of its feasability. Do not care or worry about them ; just do your business and see. If you can live selling Lego, you will, and if you finally can't, no regret. Stay careful and positive ! -
LEGO 10220 Volkswagon Camper Van
Larrynautik replied to I Scream Clone's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It is a nice model, the interior is detailed and the modularity is even better. Though I am not a fan of car models, I will buy it as the price is correct and the result is superb ! -
I bought all the parts on BL and the Lego Pick@Brick for 235€ shipping included. I Should also have used the Lego customer service for the rare expensive parts, but I completely forgot to do that. This set actually goes for 500€ in Europe... My only regret is the Carousel. It will be hard to rebuilt it part by part though. Maybe when I'll get too much money on my bank account

What was the last movie you watched?
Larrynautik replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I recently saw Nothing to Declare, french movie involving two customs officers - a belgian and a french - causing a lot of trouble at the border of Belgium and France. They both learn that the border separating them will soon disappear due to Europe, and that they will have to work together. Really funny movie ! I've also seen Skyline, earth invasion in L.A., and... I'm still trying to understand if this movie has a meaning, a sense, or if I've not understood something important during the watch... Fortunately, I've recently seen Source Code, not too bad, but a bit complex. But the best movie I've seen is definitely The Time Traveler’s Wife, wonderful movie about a man condemned to travel in the future and the past because of a genetic anomaly. He can't control its travels, but tries to live with this curious symptoms. He encounters its wife - the title already revealed this - but living with a man who disappears suddently is quite difficult sometimes... -
Yes, Yi King is the I Ching book. There are several translations in french for this title. I'm not superstitious too, but it sometimes gives a different point of view to a problem we submit it. I'll try to have a look to the Shifting Realities, but I understand Dick about his desire to think about something else than such a dark universe !
-
I particularly like the interesting uchronia where the story takes place. I've also appreciated the Yi King aspect, as this book learnt me how to use and understand Yi King. Really few people know what Yi King is and how it works, in the place where I live. But what makes The Man In The High Castle so amazing is the end of the book. I remember I just said "Woaw, I could never have imagined that !"

Excellent MOC, modular too, even the minifigs get some "japanese" style !

Survey completed ! I hope my advices could be usefull to them.

I'm really impressed, this set is really well-designed. The post-office is excellent, as well as the postman car. The price do not seem very expensive. Good job to the Lego Group

Welcome Hammer :) You can get sets sent to you from foreign countries or russian stores if you want !
