An internet tale Winchester/Shaun of the Dead project on CUUSOO
Larrynautik replied to Yatkuu's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I wanted to reply to Yaktu and give my opinion, It's exactly the situation of the Lego group now ! If they do it, they can be blamed by people who do not like the zombie and weapon style, and the universe of Shaun of the Dead. These people can consider that it is not in the mood of the Lego products. Something like "Hey, look at what Lego made ! It's a shame ! ". If they don't do it, the CUUSOO concept would be severely questioned. As a quite new concept, it could really deceive people to see that a good project they voted for and reached the 10.000 is not put in production. For a lot of members of the Lego community around the world, it would mean that CUUSOO idea do not get a real result, lowering the influence Lego fans get on the sets proposed by the Lego group. I think that in every case there will be a controversy, but in terms of image, Lego should commercialize this, and I explain why : a lot of AFOLs are kids that become old enough to buy a ton of sets, and in the future they will represent an increasing population of buyers. Lego understood it and began to make sets designed for adults, like big Modular sets, Architecture, UCS, Volkswagen and more. I recently purchased the Carousel and the UCS Falcon, and they're really stunning. When I show them to other adults they say "Wow ! Lego does that ? It's really cool !". They see that it is not only toys for kids, but a real safe adult hobby. It costs a lot (ask my bankster !) but as an AFOL you can spend far more money that parents would decently spend for their kids. Releasing the Shaun of the Dead CUUSOO project would be a clear message towards the AFOLs, saying "We hear you". I think you gave to the CUUSOO concept the opportunity to show its value, or its limits. I think it is an excellent thing that was to be done. It's like a dialog between AFOLs and the Lego group : - Why are you complaning, AFOLs ? - You never hear what we're saying, we feel like nothing. - Okay, so, let's do the CUUSOO, and tell us what you want. - We want zombies and rifles. We want a Shaun of the Dead set. - Hold on a second please... We have a critical choice to do now ! Can we really do that ? They challenged you, and you succeded. It's not a matter of luck its a matter of talent. You are modest ! (It's a rare quality !) Lego morally has to respect the deal now. I don't know if the kid filter has to apply to a CUUSOO project reaching the 10.000 votes, but it wouldn't be logical. Of course some filters has to be applied, because you can really post anything on CUUSOO, and even things in total contradiction with the brand values. But this Shaun of the Dead MOC is not in contradiction with it. Lego themselves decided to design the new Monsters theme, with vampyres, zombies and all. The weapons - riffles, guns, baseball bats etc. - already exist too. There is nothing they haven't done before (excepted the fact that Shaun of the Dead is a universe, but it's not really a thing that "acts" for a static Lego creation. When you buy and own a Star Wars set, do you think about all the philosophical meaning of the Star Wars movie, about the tragedy of the choices the characters have to make and that will change their destiny forever ? No ! You only get a Star Wars set, the lightsaber swooshable side !) Personnaly I haven't seen Shaun of the Dead. I think it's not my kind of movie. But it's the kind of Lego set I would like to have, for sure ! -
I decently prefer to buy a big brand new car lol

Yes, these are classical train wheels.

I can edit my posts, but when I type the word M.i.n.e.c.r.a.f.t (in one word, of course), the word is replaced by "LEGO reports a loss"

An internet tale Winchester/Shaun of the Dead project on CUUSOO
Larrynautik replied to Yatkuu's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Notch, the creator of the "other" video-game, agreed to the CUSOO project, and permited to the Lego company to design and sell a set based on his universe. Do not forget that the brand company will gain 1% on each box sold... without taking any financial risk ! I see no reason for Shaun of the Dead to refuse such a deal. They only get to take the money and most of all, a lot of fans will thanks them. I'm really glad to see that this project I recently decided to support reached the 10.000. I'm a big fan of Lego City and this basement will fit perfectly in a city display. Figs and weapons are interesting too. (There is a problem with the name of the video game Notch created ? Every time I post something with its name in it, I get this ---> LEGO reports a loss ) -
Welcome here, compatriot

REVIEW: 8831 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 7
Larrynautik replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It is the first time a whole Serie please to me ! Every minifig is well done. Diversity of the minifigures types, details in the paintings, and accessories are all wisely chosen. In every previous Serie, there was some minifigs I wasn't enthusiast for. It's not the case here I hope Lego will allow us to buy more than 16 of them on the Shop at Home, because I always miss some of the ones I want. My standing ovation is for the Galaxy Patrol that's totally amazing ! The bagpiper is excellent too. -
The sea wall of Fukushima Power Plant was designed for wave of 5,7 meters high. The tsunami was 15 meters high. This tsunami height analysis was done by two scientists, Shinji Sato from Tokyo University, and Harry Yeh, from Oregon State University (United States). Two representants of the Fukushima prefecture and two guides accompanied them for measures along the devastated japanese coasts. The whole Honshu Island (the main japanese island) moved from 2,4 meters to the east. I saw a lot of documentaries on NHK and several french articles that explained how the catastrophe happened. That's why the wave taller than the sea wall in the MOC presented here is perfectly realistic. Of course I don't pretend to know everything about science, and details can have been forgotten (like the Earth's axis move, and all the terrain movement undersea).
-
I think that this representation of the catastrophe happening is esthetically well done, because it seems that this moment just before the worst happens is fixed for the eternity. It also shows the huge wave that is far more high than the sea wall constructed to protect the installation. It shows exactly the problem that will happen a few seconds after the action takes place. The basements are also a good representation of the power plant like it was before the catastrophe happened. This MOC, like the architecture sets, is not really on the spirit of playing, but like a painting. As I'm not japanese I can't know how it can be seen from a japanese point of view. The last big catastrophe we had in France recently is the accidental explosion of the AZF factory in Toulouse in 2001, killing 31 people, injuring 2500 inhabitants, and doing 2 billion euros of damages on buildings around. Most of the people had their homes hardly damaged by a blow equivalent to 100 tons of TNT. A lot of them had to leave the city and could never came back for economical reasons. I know it's few compared to a 9/11 or a tsunami like the one you had. It was very painful to me when I saw this happening last year, because I feel very close to japanese culture and traditions. Some japanese cities were submerged by a 38 meters-high wave. I think we must express the commemoration of this event. It can be through a gift to help japanese people still in precariousness as a lot of them are still rehoused in mobile homes or irradiated areas now. It can be through a painting, a drawing, a Lego model. It can be by acting for that kind of tragedy to never happen again. It's what I've done by protesting against the use of nuclear energy, as the events in Japan show that it could never be fully controled. If we do not learn lessons from these events, it's like if they had never happened. Dangerosity of the nuclear energy is one of these lessons, but there are other ones, like the need to re-evaluate the sea walls in Japan, the need to improve tsunami communications (most of the victims didn't knew a wave was coming), the need to strenghten the anti-seismic buildings in a lot of countries, and also the need to improve people evacuation (a lot of people close to the power plant were let without means of leaving, as the number of buses sent for them was inappropriate). As I consider that Lego bricks can also be an artistic medium, showing a event such like this one do not trouble me, but I can understand that my vision is not necessarly the universal one ; it's purely subjective, and depends on how you consider the things.

Why is it problematic to put your ideas in a story ?

Thanks I will make photographs of it and post them here as soon as I'll have assembled them !

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Larrynautik replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks a lot Anio for the sharing I really don't understand why the video was made private Well, about this UCS, I'm quite deceived that it has no jetpack like in the movies, and that it do not projects video holograms Just joking, but I'm not really convinced about the design. It's just... strange that Lego made it like this. Will wait for the reviews to take a decision. I hope the price will not be honnest. -
I just bought some good sets on Shop@home : 10224 Town Hall 2 x 10223 Kingdom Joust (to make the big model pictured in the Lego Facebook page) 4184 Black Pearl (expensive but essential ) 10231 Shuttle Expedition (the big Creator Space Shuttle !) Three Planets (Naboo, Tatooine and the Death Star) 9674, 9675 and 9676 and 16 Series 6 minifigures ( I hope we will be allowed to buy more than 16 someday) I hope I will receive this order soon !

I haven't tried, in fact, as I don't know which french-speaking country I could contact, but maybe I should. But I think I would have greater chances if I was translating the novel in English, and sending it to english-speaking countries that are more opened to science fiction. However, translating such a novel is not possible to me because I'm not good enough in english.

I have written a 253 pages science-fiction novel, a tragedy that takes place in Mars in the future. A young student in science accidently discovers a mathematical theory able to calculate everything that could happen to an object. The government gives him credit to create a weapon based on this. But during the conception of the perfect ultimate weapon, able to predict the efficiency of an attack and to change the strategy in case of bad result, the student - that is now a scientist - discovers that the end of the life of every human being he makes experiment on happen the same day, for everybody. He can't explain this, but tries and notice that only one man is not concerned by this fact. They will have to encounter to know the truth... but this encounter will not be as easy as the young scientist believed... I've sent this novel to something like 10 french editors, but it was refused every time without an explanation I've worked 4 years on it. It was a cool experience but really hard too. You must stay focused on what you are writting and try to find the contradictions of the novel. You must get your whole complex story in your head to do that and it's really hard But no regrets Now I have no book I work on, as it's really hard for no result. I have a ton of other ideas of stories such like this but... no motivation ! I'm writing poetry about paradise, eternity and divinity now. It's more relaxing

What was the last movie you watched?
Larrynautik replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I saw the TV series "V" (Visitors) in version 2009. I didn't knew it had stopped in the middle of the second season, leading to a ridiculous senseless end. Don't lose your time watching it, you will be severely despited. -
It's really a good thing that we have 3 french F1 pilots this year, Romain Grosjean (Lotus), Charles Pic (Marussia) and Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso). Last year we didn't had any ! I can't wait for the first race in Australia on March 18th

It made me laugh a lot (mostly because it's true !)

Yesterday I saw a big walnut desktop my enterprise was on the brink of throwing out to the municipal dump because it was too old. The desktop was in perfect condition and only thrown out because the enterprise bought new ones and had no space to stock this one. I asked if I could take it, and the basement maintenance guy totally agreed, mostly because I was sparing him the task to take it to the municipal dump (and it is a very heavy desktop). I dismantled the desktop, picked it up in my car, and will reassemble it this week-end for displaying my modulars and doing a city layout. As the desktop is 1m x 2m, I can place a 4 X 8 layout, 32 baseplates The best thing is that it cost me nothing

WW Category 2: 1908 Wild West Town
Larrynautik replied to marshal_banana's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I voted on CUSOO for this extraordinary MOC that should be sold by Lego as a set. I hope many of us will do the same as it would be excellent to have such one for sale. With four thousand people wanting it, Lego should already consider it. -
Monster Fighters 2012
Larrynautik replied to Darth Nihilus's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The Monster Fighters castle is a must-have ! Figs, traps, haunted architecture and accesories are good job. I'm just skeptical about the vehicles of this theme. I will look at the reveiws closely. -
I'm really charmed by this amazing set and by the designer Fortunately I get no girlfriend or I would've been floged a lot if caught watching this video The price is good for such a set, the design looks perfect to me, particularly the clock and the roman-styled columns. I think I should have been difficult to creat a "generic" town hall, as they vary a lot between regions and architecture. In the city where I live we get a post-modern one with plenty of space, very large tinted windows, cubic design and fine materials (my city is only 50 years old yet, not an old-european-styled one). The color choice is wise too, as this dark orange is esthetic on a basement, and an interesting color in general, such like the dark blue, dark red, sand green and dark tan. The minifigs are a good representative choice, particularly the hairstyles. Torso printings are also nicely done. I would have appreciated to see the main entrance doors in action however, as it seems massive. We do not see the bell on top of the building too. And now, show us the video of the Manor we see in the beginning of this press release, which seems to be very interesting

A great set too expensive for europeans : 20$ in America, 36$ in Europe So, another cool set I'll not buy because I'm bored of this price problem Lego doesn't care at all. It's even worse when we see the huge discounts in America and no or few discounts in Europe. I will probably significantly decrease my Lego spent this year. The situation is so ridiculous thtat it sometimes cost less importating sets from America (shipping included)than buying them in european stores A great review, though, detailed about this escape pod : this set is really better than the 2001 version, and get 2 sand-styled stormies in addition. A dewback would have completed it !

Nice inn in the vein of the winter village buildings, Lego should made a set like this

A superb photograph full of details and good ideas (I like how you made the shoes) !
