  1. Also, in looking at the top picture more closely, the outriggers seem to be one fluid motion to the ground. I'm excited to see what kind of mechanism that will be, because one motion would probably be stronger than the mechanically interesting yet weaker two stage outriggers of 42009. I also think the superstructure looks bigger in photos than it will be in person. It doesn't seem as thick as I initially thought, just the height of the battery box. I'm not sure about the engine block, though, I kind of wish they found a separate function rather than filling the space with yet another engine. Oh well.
  2. I actually really like the paneling of the superstructure. Yes, it's big, but that's part of the appeal. I really like the color scheme and the panels sloping down on the side. I can't wait for the hands on review or better yet, getting it myself :)
  3. That's the thing, they did design new wheels, based on the scant photos we've seen so far. I do agree that those are probably the starting point, but it would be interesting to see how that all gets decided.
  4. The question I'd ask is: Which part of the vehicle did you start with as you began designing and which parts determined the scale of the entire build? (For me that is one of the hardest parts when I mock, I tend to make one portion and then realize that it won't be proportional to the rest of the vehicle if I continue)
  5. I just got a cheap copy of 42069 here in the US because of this fantastic review. Thanks Jim for these amazing pictures and trying out all the tires. I agree that the Unimog tires look the best, but my 4x4 crawler tires will have to do. The set arrives tomorrow, and I'm excited to see it all come together. This will be my only 2017 Technic set, so this is my one shot to get the printed 40th anniversary liftarm. Now if I can be as patient with the Bugatti Chiron, maybe next year I can find that on sale somewhere too!
  6. I really want to see a better view of the top of the chain when the carts crest the hill. One of my big issues is having the chain rub against the slats of the rollercoaster causing major friction without any wheels or anything. At the bottom it shows the technic cam pieces that act as a barrier, but I'm not sure how it's set up at the top. Otherwise, it looks great and very fun to play with. I can't wait til we see reviews around the web with video that shows how it really works.
  7. I think the controlling of the leaks has been a good move on Lego's part because it has dramatically decreased the expectations from AFOLs. I know we are only a portion of the buyers of the Porsche, but the months of visual speculation about the Porsche led to overly high expectations. Basically, I'm not sure if keeping the secret is a sign of confidence in the Bugatti, or a temperance of expectations. I don't think leaks and speculation play a big hyping role in the sales of sets outside intense AFOL circles.
  8. These posts are why I love Eurobricks. There are people with more parts and way more know-how, who find some fantastic solutions. Thanks! @Didumos6
  9. Do you mean the extended pistons of 8051? I don't think that will be enough to follow the real engine's single crankshaft. As others have mentioned, the style from Mack Anthem is too small and the regular engine pieces are too big. I'm expecting to get a V16 engine with two crank shafts and gear connecting them, but I'd love to be mistaken! :)
  10. Great crane! It doesn't look super heavy duty, but lightweight and compact. One of my biggest issues with the TLC crane was that it was really heavy as an attachment and I felt like I needed to use the outriggers even when the arm wasn't up, just so there wasn't undue stress on the parts. This one has a better range of motion, with fewer parts. I call that a win! Nice job!
  11. I'm really okay with gaps, just please, please, please make sections removable or open up so we can see the gearbox/engine block easily! That was the toughest part for me to swallow from the Porsche. I'm also excited to see how these new wheels work and what effect it will have moving forward.
  12. Another comparison I thought of today as I read those reviews. "Rhino Face-Off at the Mine" is a new 2018 set that has 223 pieces (just shy of the 230 of TRON) and retails for $19.99 US and 19.99 UK. It has many large and unique pieces like the legs of the Lugabeast and the two sections of rollercoaster track. It also comes with 3 unique minifigures that have some superb printing. Compare that to TRON and you can see the huge difference in price, even when they are both DISNEY properties! I'm sure there are some people who can justify the price, but I have to hope it goes on sale.
  13. Those buggy motors really make this thing fly! I was imagining a slow crawling truck when I saw the power-puller tires and the bulk of the truck. Boy was I wrong! Excellent model and great attention to detail in recreating the city version.
  14. Ahhh, the uncertainty! I'd love to get more sets that haven't been done before, like the Whomping Willow rather than another Quidditch set. I know of course that many people were not able to get the sets in 2010-2011, but there are so many parts of the Harry Potter world that haven't been attempted before that I wish they'd try something new. For instance: Cave set with a couple of Inferi from HBP (small boat and outcropping, similar to the LOTR set a few years back with Bilbo and Gollum) Weasley family tent from GF (a fun way to get some Bulgaria, Ireland torso prints) Ministry of Magic (both the main lobby with fountain, and Department of Mysteries) Weasley's Wizard Wheezes (colorful set that could fit in with Diagon Alley) Hogsmeade (Any of the shops, particularly in a winter scene as that was emphasized in the films) Umbridge's Office (with its loads of pink) Anything with the centaurs (off all the magical creatures, these are the ones I would most like to see) I know these are mostly from the later books (while these upcoming sets are starting with 1-2) but they're still on my wish list.
  15. The system pieces are okay in my opinion, though I'd be happiest if it was mostly for interior detailing. My biggest concern is whether they made the inner-workings accessible when the model is finished. The Porsche was a fun and interesting build, and it would have been much better received if we could see the complex gearbox and even the motor by lifting a few panels. The 900+ more parts will probably be used for details as opposed to different functions. I imagine they focus on a cleaner interior with system pieces... I'd love a new motor/cylinder system though!
  16. The difference is that by March of 2016, we had already seen the photos and videos of the Porsche from the Nuremburg Toy Fair. This time, all we've gotten is a poster and a teaser video with nothing of substance. I'm sure it is some kind of effort to hurt the copycats, but it isn't easy for us consumers either. I remember the intrigue surrounding the spiral-stickered prototype at the toy fair, and how the analysis of new pieces and functions was in high gear :) I'm really hoping it won't take too much longer for Lego to share something, I'm beyond excited!
  17. Since it is coming out August 1st, I doubt we get anything more about it until at least May 1st. 3 months is plenty of time for the hype-machine to get rolling and get everyone excited for its release. I hope I'm wrong though, and we do see something before then!
  18. These are amazing. Well done! I'm going to have to make a bricklink order or two!
  19. Is the official image confirmed as the final set for the great hall? I am disappointed that McGonagall only has normal legs, compared to the interesting new slope piece shown at the toy fair. That being said, the mold for the sorting hat looks amazing and I am incredibly excited to see what's coming in later sets!
  20. I just built kbalage's RC mod for B Model and I was very impressed. Excellent work getting the battery box to just barely fit underneath the hood. 42077 isn't the greatest of innovative sets, but its a great parts pack that allows for easy modding as kbalage has done. Thank you very much!
  21. As I have looked at more pictures of the Bugatti Chiron (the real one) I am more and more worried that Lego will have a hard time keeping the car flat. It's such a low, sleek design, I worry that Lego's version will be so concerned about making it curvy, that it will become tall and egg shaped.
  22. I only have 42054, but I would love to get 42069 as well. The Claas is a fantastic set, as others have mentioned. The ingenuity of the steering mechanism and the tires really set it apart from normal sets. I know it came out at the same time as the BWE and Porsche, but to me it is a flagship set. Happy building with either one you choose!
