  1. Thank you, and I'd say - good point. The locomotive is indeed full of studs, and I confirm it was a desired thing, since I tried to keep it as cheap as possible . With the wagons I tried to wanted to reduce visible studs (or use them as details or in specific places - sooner or later I will face finally the need for some Maxi-minifig to animate a bit the scene - and it's better to connect them in a solid way). These wagons are more refined than the locomotive and in the future could be pulled by some more aestethically sophisticated machine (probably a small, steamy coffee pot) Ciao! Davide
  2. Great little "Critter"!!! I'm curious to see its development!!!
  3. Nice arrangement!!! And the new fake suspension is really clever!!!
  4. Seems a big beast!!! The choice of double L motors is without any doubt... wise!!!
  5. So, I finally began to have something solid to perform my tests: His name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everyone calls him...it depends on which side you're looking, being a two-headed vehicle. This is Giovanni. All my respect to mr. Moroder, who helped me to make my daughter fall asleep with his music, 12 years ago!!! The little draisine will have a real-looking face, but the "Cars" face is not bad at all. 3D printed wheels were abandoned , since I tried to adapt the small Lego wheels to the axle, drilling them with a small driller and two torx heads (T20 before and T25 after - insisting a bit). Then a small 3l axle can be hammered (geeeeeeeeeeeeeently!!!) inside the wheel. Now the real fun begins, since I need to find a suitable battery to move this thing and something to increase traction. The Lego wheels are shiny and smooth, and slippery as hell. In the meantime I prepared the final design, and ordered the needed parts. Windscreens and windows are now "trans-black". Here below, an "exploded" view, showing the inside of the body - it could change a bit for better hosting the battery, but externally it will remain the same. Hope you like it! Ciao! Davide
  6. Not at all, until they are (speaking of stickers/rims): of good quality correct from look 'n' feel point of view (color, shape) guaranteeing same or better functionality (e.g. old stickers tend to detach easily nowadays and old rims are simply gone). Speaking of parts, I've always bought big wheels and black windows (2x1x2/1x1x2) when needed, red turnplates, 12v and 4,5v light bricks...now some of them are unacceptably high priced. Some parts are impossible to find, like the blue and red magnet holders of the Lego 722. so I reverse engineered them and printed in 3D. Better than nothing - plus look and functionality is preserved Amen!
  7. Eeeeh, not complete, but at least with some remaining stickers with numbers and DB logos (small and big, maybe a pair of black ones). But I found some repros which are not so bad, others are perfect from shape point of view, but too small. I got some stickers with stripes and these are PERFECT, even if third party. As an example, the dark "1" and "2" stickers of the 7740 are still missing since I did not find a suitable repro sticker (I still keep my original 1x1x1 bricks with the originals on it, but in a bag, together with other original stickers on bricks/doors) I also tried back in the days to redraw completely (in powerpoint!!!) all the stickers, before they became avaliable as spares. It can be done today using .png format and a more suitable drawing program. I still remember that the font was something like "Helvetica",and I found it in some free font site. Ciao! Davide
  8. Hi all, being on holiday today, I've some time to work on my little Fiat 500 "Draisina". Here's the mockup of the chassis, featuring the second Circuit Cubes motor (the other one is inside the "Spielzeug Lokomotive"): Same twisted belt transmission , two wheel drive - I believe the small wheels will need something to increase traction. I was thinking about thermo-restricting bands used in electronics, since are made in thin rubber. The "gauge" must surely be adjusted to fit the Lego track. I feel these little wheels are a bit too near to the chassis, but without the real ones I cannot tell. 3D printing time!
  9. I really lost this thread at the time !!! Congratulations @zephyr1934 for the fantastic rendition of the Elephant Locomotive - a machine I did not know before and it's really fascinating!
  10. Hi there! On stickers and rubber bands I'm quite open to reproduced things. On parts I'm a bit more focused on original parts on original models (e.g. 1x1x2 black windows). But I'm beginning to "feel" the price problem. Rims/rubber bands/tires are something I buy in huge quantities - together with reproduced stickers of different kinds to see the difference and eventually evaluate the best ones. I've some original stickers around but they'll remain on their sheet until I will finally decide myself to make them literally copied by a printing store. For rims I prefer to stick to original colors of the prototype - so 7720 with 4,5v motor and gray ones. In some cases, especially for 4,5v versions there could be a "dilemma". A 7710 with an added 107 motor would surely have black rims "out of the box". But it feels so 70s...and then I use gray ones, available at the time as spare parts. I cannot accept, for example, 7760s with black rims, since there's the possibility for them to have the right color ones. Ciao! Davide
  11. Hi Andrew, and welcome! I think that the Powered Up battery box is a bit "feeeling" what you connect to it - but it's a story apart. There's this thread on PuP to PF, it should work also for some tests on 12v and 9v motors, and this should be useful for your goal. My 2 cents on the topic of keeping the 12v models alive, even with some "modernization". Apart connections and communication methods, the train motor shape is the same from the 80s. The red color is not, and this is the big problem for Gray Era steamers converted to PuP/PF. I prepared on Tinkercad some wheels that can be 3D printed and connected to the Technic axle some time ago: These can be printed in red or black (or whatever color, but it would not be serious ) and attached to a PF/PuP motor. You've to attach a pin to the central wheel hole, and guarantee some "suspension", otherwise it will act as fulcrum and leave a pair of wheels in the air. It's something I work on from years, but no results until I got my own 3d printer! The design is public so anyone can access and make it better. 12v rods can be attached. Just "clean" them with some sandpaper and rub internally the rod hole with a small screwdriver (some residual material could prevent the rod locking or turning freely). https://www.tinkercad.com/things/gerklkxBwoV One thing I tried to solve the color problem was to attach an adhesive wrapping to the sides of the PF/PuP motor, and then use the 3D printed wheels. There are so many colors and red tones, and buying online is a mess so it's a bit of trial and error. I hope it can be useful too! Ciao! Davide
  12. I think there's a lot of 7730 inside that little locomotive!
  13. However, you reached at least "excellent" Great build, the attention to details is fantastic!
  14. Hi all, here's an update on the Fiat 500 "Draisina" First the real thing: and then, my (poor) rendition : Being in minifig's scale, it's 4-wide, since the real van is smaller than 1435mm at the front, and becomes 1438mm in the central part of body. The 500 Draisina keeps the overall width of the "nose", therefore is smaller than 1435mm. So, wheels just pop out of the body and are covered by small mudguards (which for the moment I'm still investigating how to reproduce - but there are not so much choices at this scale). Ciao! Davide
  15. ...If it fits - but the belt transmission may be again useful The problem now is having suitable wheels, so I'm Tinkering the smallest Lego wheels to have an axle hole, then the Circuit Cubes motor could be the right choice. The battery will be a problem I still have to think of! This little things, luckily, are still alive and currently a good restore project for many volunteers (they are small and easy to move on and off tracks - basically they can be stored in a normal garage and transported by small tow trucks). There's plenty of new parts for the Fiat 500 engine (the draisine is using the flat one of the 500 "Giardiniera" - the wagon version - which is different from the normal 500 engine) and parts for restoring the two van "noses" are now produced again for the vintage vehicles market. The rest is really easy to fix or reproduce. I hope to have a render soon!
  16. There's currently another locomotive resembling the 7730 and therefore similar to the BR60 - it's the little locomotive shown at page 30, 32 and 33 of the 7777 Idea book. https://www.brickfactory.info/set/index.html (leads to the home page, sorry ) It does not have the carbon "scoop" but the rear end is shaped correctly!
  17. Just saw it - a diesel-pneumatic monster! It's asymmetric, it's full of windows, it's a mess, it's beautiful and more important - it was a big flop... ...challenge accepted! But...it would be more a 7750 / 7760 mod than a 7730 one, so we're a bit off topic.
  18. Ciao! This teorically is the thread corresponding to the WIP topic in BMR Octrainber group on Flickr. In fact I've a specific thread for the Spielzeug, (same as the "entry" topic in BMR). For the moment I'm posting here my progress, then I'll sum up the most interesting photos/videos/renders inside that thread. I stopped working on the Spielzeug, since I'm waiting for parts. The two E69s fit nicely together! For the moment I'm following a new work for the MOW topic (it was not planned, but it's a cool topic - and I'll try to do something)! Just to give an idea: I think that with 21HP from Fiat 499,5cc engine I'm really in the "barely moving" MOW vehicles league . It's minifig scale and I hope to succeed in motorizing it. Shape is quite ready, now time for the chassis (I know normally it should be the opposite way, but I've to understand what could fit inside it) !
  19. Very promising little KOF!!!
  20. I love this tractor - detailed, well built - great study of the motor/battery combination - and that openable locker inside the open part... Great work, @Asper !!!
  21. ..and available in different colors too! Good work! Details really add complexity, now!
  22. Some pictures of the real thing! Just for fun, I discovered that I built a papercraft model in Lego!!! Just fold it and use glue! Roof can be opened like a coffee-pot. This is the result of thinking to a Lego MOC during breakfast. Is it useful? I don't know, maybe yes, maybe not. I have still to think about it. Parts for blue body were just ordered on BL , let's hope these will be received in time!!! Otherwise I'll have to present the yellow one. Ciao! Davide
  23. Great and original prototype!!! As always, your work is an inspiration for me - I can't wait to see it on tracks (even curved ones ) Ciao! Davide
  24. This is really a great way to visually reproduce the (painted) wood effect! Great!
