MOC Bridge-layer Mk 2
Phantom59 replied to Phantom59's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Sorry I was stretching my IT skills just uploading what I did. -
This is my second bridge-layer. http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/307076 I tried to use the KISS ('Keep it simple stupid')this time I only used 3 XL motors, 2 for drive and 1 for lifting the bridge The idea for the lifting gear came from a World War 2 Churchill tank Bridge Layer http://www.strijdbewijs.nl/tanks/churchill/speceng.htm photo at the bottom of the page

Since I have installed the latest version of LDraw (2011-01) on, the LDView 4.1 (Dec 2009) has crash every time I have tried to do a snapshot.

This is my LC (landing Craft) Pig The idea came from a mix of starship Troopers ( book + Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles )and a few of my own thrown in. Engines on the wing tips rotate Loads can be shoved out the back or dropped though the floor. Troopers can be drop (in pods) through the floor (working on a simple pod for this) or run out (or drop off) the back I have yet to work out weather to have fixed (wheel - like a CH-47 Chinook or skid) or retractable Under cart Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us I have some more detail work to do Any helpful comments please

Arctic Screwdriver
Phantom59 replied to vmln8r's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good work I was wondering about how to do a screw drive in lego myself after watching it being used in an episode of Scrapheap Challenge (they used it to propel a boat) It is a very simple thing (after you see how someone else dose it). Do you think it would work on mud (That all we have in Melbourne (OZ) at the moment) -
8043 Why ?
Phantom59 replied to Phantom59's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A couple of Technic Bush 1/2 would stop the axle from droping -
My wife gave me a 8043 for my birthday and while building it a came across some instructions that struck me as strange Uploaded with ImageShack.us the Technic Axle 4 with Stop dose not go all the way the top of the Technic Pin Connector Toggle Joint Smooth Double Uploaded with ImageShack.us Is there any reason for this I would have thought it would be better (or stronger) and have less slop with the axle going the whole way through Technic Pin Connector Toggle Joint Smooth Double I have thought of changing it to a 6 axle.

LDD has some good points. but in a pinch I prefer LDraw it's slower then LDD but it has some good points LDraw has more bricks and you don't have the problem of brick placement (eg a brick sitting on a tile )
-
What is it with LDD ? I was building the White House (21006) and I got to step 15, I could not place a "Plate 1 x 2 with 1 Stud" where it was to go becouse the D...... program would not let me but I could put it any where else but where it was meant to go . I deleted and redid the step and it still would not let me.

I find size "10" rubber bands ( http://www.pelikanartline.com.au/index.php?option=com_content_ex&view=category&layout=multi-view&id=735&Itemid=584 ) are just the right size for tracks. I get them from the Local Newsagent (about Aus $0.80c for 25g box) also I find a small crochet hook ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crochet_hook ) very helpful in pulling the rubber band through the hole in the track Warning some types of rubber bands do degrade
