  1. I wish it could be shared here too, but if it says "Confidential - Preliminary Image" as it will, then it is against Eurobricks rules to post it here...
  2. Was just checking the rules, there is that loophole to do that, so yes!
  3. I believe half a train might be a better option for Lego, to put it simply. The logic is that it keeps everyone slightly happier. 1. Kids can get the passenger train for Birthday or Christmas, either just buying one or if they really want another they can save up for it (might take a while!) or get it the following year... 2. Overall, AFOL train fans are more willing to spend money to buy 2 of certain train set, and Lego has data on that from online and store sales, e.g. 2 Horizon Expresses - 6 long train, 2 of 60051 - 7 long train, etc... 3. Even though Lego don't openly agree with it: "Set Splitting Resellers" isn't a small thing, for example: A quick search on eBay showed me more than one seller that had spilt near 500 of 60051 and almost the same number of 60052. And there are many like that! Plus all the shops on Bricklink parting out, just look at the front piece for 60051 (Part 15536), thousands are for sale if you got to Price Guide! 4. Parts buyers, say if we get new a new bluetooth receiver in both sets, people will buy the sets for that tech (especially if it doesn't become available of the Lego Shop immediately, or the item stocks out like it is currently for much of the train equipment at the moment - until sometime in February at the earliest, I've been told.) On that, Lego may not even list the new parts for quite a while as they will all be going into the new sets. Lego did something similar with their passenger trains in 1999 and 2003 as well, but 2 and 3ish long respectively and a fair number of people bought 2 then, (totally different, but they have done before, so I have a strong feeling Lego are going to do "half a train" for the passenger one! --- Separate Point --- On the subject of the freight one, we pretty much know the wagons and accessories we are getting as I have heard/read separate accounts of people that have seen the pictures and they stack up very nicely with no contradictions. BUT... We have 3 different versions of the locomotive (In order of info): 1. 60052 recolour in green (therefore, single cab), as seen and described by Brickshow Brian. (Probably not quite right, in my opinion Brian isn't a great details man and many not have spent long analysing the pictures). No offence to him, of course. 2. A French-looking Teal/Green coloured locomotive (cab each end) as taken from Damian Wicher's low quality video. (Strong possibility, it could be development 360° videos, they have happened before... Saw one on Youtube around the last train release (60098) saved it to "watch later" but Lego got that copyright striked and removed. Suprised they haven't done the same to the Facebook one... For those interested, it was just the locomotive, I thought "yellow one, but recoloured". Yes, it was also bad quality, like the Damian Wicher one. And the most recent addition: 3. Class 37 style, but diesel-electric with 2 pantographs - presumably green? @Noah_PL posted about this having seen the box art... (I don't know about this one, he ideally need to start sharing more info in the form of a detailed description, it is not that likely he has the photo/s on him as he would have probably found a way to share it.) If he has or can find the picture/s to be analysed by the fine people of Eurobricks that would be incredibly appreciated! What we seem to be getting is green diesel-electric locomotive with 2 cabs, a sticky out bit infront of the cab windows at each end, and 2 pantographs! Beyond that, we'll have to wait for concrete evidence or photos! If I got anything wrong in this, please say, I tried my best to research everything properly. Gosh I wrote a lot...
  4. Hi Steamdemon, I see that you are working in 6 wide, might I recommend the 6×16 train base with motor cut-out. As its almost minimum length to have all PF in the tender. Versions with both buffers and no buffers exist, thus giving you multiple options. They are available in Red (which looks best for tender builds in my opinion). Being in the UK, like you, I suggest BrickLink as the most cost effective place to buy as ebay sellers charge somewhat over the odds for these c.1980s pieces! I've been doing similar builds to you in the past so know it is possible to accommodate motor, battery, receiver and lights, plus associated wires in such space! As for Power Functions, I recommend buying a reduced 60051. (From somewhere like Asda, Tesco, etc, as they have been selling them somewhat cheap recently.) Then, take out all the useful pieces you need from the set like PF parts, wheels, buffers, 6x24 bases... I suggest listing the remaining parts as a bulk lot on ebay (if you don't keep the majority of parts) - I've done so before as the pieces sell within a week or two of listing. Hope that info helps! Regards, James
  5. Well, this has officially gone on my shopping list! Going to need 2 of these and then as and when search Bricklink for 2 more of the gray rollercoaster curves to make a complete loop. Then set about working how to do a compatable PF powered train to run on them! Probably end up with something a bit like Jangbricks' 4 wide rail set up! Overall very good set from Lego and should hold a high part-out value!
  6. @baard That looks truly magnificent! Love the concept of uncoupling, great added feature and not one I thought would be very possible in the space available. Would you ever think of making instructions? As I would buy them in a heartbeat!
  7. Wow that looks amazing, also love the 08 style shunter on the turntable, I'm still in the process of building a 08 with full PF functions! Yours is 9V or RC? If using PF do you have photos of the positioning of the different elements?
  8. @jimim I have a plausible suggestion: Black Friday is incredibly soon, large shops will do discounts or offers. In the UK in the last month, 2 shops: Tesco and Argos have had 3 for 2 on all Lego, thus 33% off each set if you buy 3 of the same, say 3 track packs, 3 point sets or even 3 of a set like 60051 (which is what I did, one set = £79.99, therefore by buying 3, I got each at £53.33 which is better than half of the Lego Shop RRP! Look at ToysRUs, Walmart, Target and others (early in the day) on Black Friday and you could do an absolute clean up on cheap train related (and others theme) Lego Sets. Its also a good time buy sets that are retiring soon, as you can keep them for say, 2 years, and then sell them for like 1.5 to even 2 times the price in some cases! Just some thoughts, as I've saved and made 100s of pounds around Black Friday for quite a few years now! Regards, James
  9. Just started putting together an order for some of these wheels! They are exactly what I've been looking for! Might order them post Christmas, as they don't come cheap, and I've got presents for others to buy!
  10. If you are using something like the Bricklink software, Stud.io (which I use occasionally), the instructions feature is very confusing and probably needs a manual to understand! I recommend the easiest way to do it is just as the file for people, tell them which program they need to download to read it, and then let them either figure the instruction aspect out, or leave them to take away individual bricks, change colours, do a redesign, etc... Thus giving people the option to do more with your designs to fit their needs, be it length, height, width, PF functions features like lights. Most of all its up to you, as they are your models/designs! Wouldn't half mind a file or something to help with MK1 and Bulleid coaches I've started collecting pieces for... without even having near finalised crude designs in place! ? I've got a lot to live up to with people like yourself, Andrew, Carl and many others!
  11. I'm definitely interested if this goes ahead, something I've been on the look out for in one form or another for a while now! Best of luck with the design! Just for an idea of what I'd purchase, I'd be looking at c.10-12 packs of 2 couplers, so if you did some kind of multi/bulk pack I'd probably get that to start with! Would the idea be for a kickstarter? Because I'd pledge at least $50 to help get this to a reality!
  12. Darn, I missed this! Must get involved if you do OcTRAINber again next year! Brilliant models by all, really enjoyed looking through Flickr at them!
  13. I believe your suggestion of the Amtrak train, could be a genuine possibility! The look is entirely feasible for Lego to recreate and with the history of the Metroliner, it has a certain amount of logicality to it as well! I predict would go down a storm if Lego even did something close to it! As for the freight train, if they go down the hybrid root, may I suggest the possibility of a yellow and green locomotive, similar in colour scheme of the Bus from the Bus Station set! It would tie in nicely as a kind of hybrid company. They could have wagons carrying things related to renewable energy, like a solar panel carrying wagon, one with wind turbine blades and a natural gas tanker. There could be a little hybrid truck/van too for carrying things and the build next to the track could be the wind turbine! Very exciting stuff!
  14. Hi Isaac, I just looked back at your Mallard build and realised I've been subbed to you on Youtube since your London Underground train! Are you going to do a moc showcase for the brilliant Flying Scotsman on your Youtube channel? (I'm sure it would go down very well with your subscribers if you did!) Also, would you ever consider selling copies of the files for your marvellous handy works? I for one would buy a copy of each if you did, especially to learn new and more effective 6-stud wide loco construction techniques! (I think it could be a nice little money earner to fund future builds too.) If a possibility, might I suggest using the Bricklink custom area as it will reach a good AFOL audience and could also be cross-ploinated from your Youtube and other socials if you wished! I've been smiling like a cheshire cat while looking through posts of your engines, and would like to thank you very much for sharing them.
  15. Or even some form of shorter diesel shunter or tank engine with all 3 PF parts in the one place thus no need to have wires going to a covered van or carriage for the battery box especially... Admittedly the engine would be rather chunky, but that has the plus point of being more suitable for children in the 6-12 age range that Lego would probably say on the box. I think if we see a passenger train c.£110 (LRRP), a freight train c.£150 (LRRP) and some sort of station in which ever form it takes in the "Summer 2018" round of sets, then in 2019, (much like 2015 relative to 2014) I'm going to stick my neck out and say we may get another freight set, but this one slightly smaller with a lower price tag of c.£100-110ish with a shunting engine, wood wagon, coal wagon and caboose/breakvan. As Lego aren't stupid and will have seen how popular with people spliting sets, the coal hopper was for example from set 60098 was, and in reviews how people said it was a great wagon, thus my prediction on wagon types... Overall, for fan's of trains, city, moc building, collecting, etc, this could make for a very interesting prospect... If I'm right, which I probably won't be, I will buy anywhere from 2 to 4 of such a set, as I'm sure many other hardcore Lego fans would...
  16. Hi, I'm new as a member, but have been reading train related threads on here for at least 2, if not 3 years. I've got some info that is more likely to be relevant to 2019+... I was talking with someone (who I think it best not to name) who works for a lego supplier on the creation of the metal molding blocks that the different bricks and pieces get make in. He was telling about a piece redesign that the guys in the department have been tasked with creating for train related uses "from what he could tell". (We got onto the subject as he knows I'm keen in anything involving trains and Lego!) He knows it is 6x16 stud dimensions with a cut for a motor. He said the CAD design wasn't his responsibility so he said no more info on that aspect. Also that the first drafts were to be in blue, but the piece would see future use in black, most likely. THIS PART ONWARDS IS CONJECTURE... I've looked into parts that he might mean, and here are a couple pictures of what it could possibly be based part wise on. (See 2 pictures) Make of this what you will, but I think it is more likely to be similar to the second one (without the buffers) as it is more versatile piece and could have other uses. Thanks for reading, sorry if I wasn't very concise! James
